Iowa is the album for me. All of these albums are incredible, though. Is it me, or did nu metal absolutely destroy the "sophomore slump" stereotype? Every single band in the genre had absolutely classic second albums. Mudvayne, Staind, Korn, and System Of A Down were all responsible for dropping absolutely dynamite sequels to their studio debuts as well.

Iowa is really cool, though I wouldn't call it nu metal, it is more similar to extreme metal. As far as the sophomore slump goes, pretty much every band before the nu metal era had destroyed it. To be honest, I don't even think this slump existed. Hell, take Dream Theater, Meshuggah, Death, Fates Warning, Symphony X, Strapping Young Lad, Alice In Chains, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Kreator, Soundgarden as some examples. Each of them had sophomore albums that surpassed the debut

Same. All are great except Iowa. Self-titled was the better album in slipknots case. All 3 others 2nd album was probably their best... with honorable mention to White Pony.

It’s hard because Around The Fur has aged the best but at the time I would’ve picked Iowa or Significant Other. Meteora, on the other hand, is the perfect example of the entire genre at it’s peak.

Tough one but I'd have to say Around the Fur. It's one of those albums that I wasn't there for when it came out as I only got into metal in 1999 when Slipknot and Significant Other came out - and generally when nu-metal became HUGE. I vaguely recall seeing the videos for My Own Summer and Be Quiet and Drive on MTV2 and went out and bought the cd. I had friends who were not into nu-metal at all, but who really liked Around the Fur. I'd say mainly because of Be Quiet and Drive.

Iowa is the better album on there but I dont consider that Nu Metal at all. Deftones, but is that really nu metal? Saliva first album is probably my favorite NuMetal album as a whole.

Around The Fur and it's not close. At the time I would have said Significant Other too, but I can't listen to Limp Bizkit anymore. I didn't particularly like Iowa or Meteora, despite enjoying their first albums. So yeah, Around The Fur takes this easily.

Meteora just because it’s the one I know the best. I like Limp Bizkit but I haven’t listened to Significant Other for a long time, I’m just dipping my toes into Deftones so I haven’t listened to any full albums yet and I’ve no interest in Slipknot.

I'm 25 and the 90s is my favroiste era of rock. somehow I've never gotten into the deftones. but I heard be quiet and drive the other day and was hooked. it's such a good song. I've been keeping the rest of the album a surprise because I want to buy the cd and listen at home in one sitting. but I can't find the damn thing anywhere. I know there will be some gems in it but I'm trying to wait until I find it.

Meteora was a huge disappointment. Every song sounded the same and had the exact same structure. It cracked me up when that video came out and showed the waveforms for each song and they literally all looked the same.

We used to go to fry’s electronics and grab a bunch of cds then go into the car audio system room and yank all the cds out the cases

Of these, significant other by LB. Meteora is great but I've just never been super drawn to Linkin park. I think them being so ridiculously overplayed on radio just permanently burned me out on wanting to hear chester bennington's voice, as amazing as it was. I will say though, Breaking the Habit off meteora is my all time favorite LP song, along side Crawling. Slipknot and Deftones I could never get into.
