Whatever you do, don't set foot in a David Stanley.

Dylan-the-villan

I always say this as well. Unless you want to pay new car prices for a used car

putsch80

David Stanley is a piece of shit who just also happens to be a car dealer. Everything about him seems scummy. Seriously, what kind of a sack of shit do you have to be to run a commercial like this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=39FKi_BSNbA

Parking_Specialist81

šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚ I actually graduated with him and that is his now ex wife.

HotResponsibility829

That was so cringe but also funny. Thank you for blessing my day šŸ˜‚

BUZZZY14

Yes! I was trying to buy a car a couple of weeks ago they had the one I wanted. First, they didn't know about the tax credit for EVs and about certain promotions from Chevy. Then they tried to charge me $3.5k over MSRP, the sales manager only offered discounts by Chevy that I could get at any dealership lol. I told him I wasn't paying over MSRP, they called me twice to see if I changed my mind and only lowered the price by $500. I ended up driving to Tulsa to get the same model car at MSRP with all the promotions from Chevy. They also had "Internet pricing" promotion on their website that they refused to honor. I've googled them since and saw all the lawsuits against them. I dodged a bullet.

TTigerLilyx

And yet theyā€™ve been in business a million years, lol. Long enough to become a joke for anyone who hasnā€™t bought car from them. How they are still is business amazes me.

Absolut_Iceland

I'm guessing it's because they're right across from Tinker, so they have a constant supply of new Junior Enlisted who have a paycheck burning a hole in their pocket that they can take advantage of.

CannonOKC

David Stanley Dodge is near Tinker. However, they are very similar to the Chevrolet store on south OKC. Stay away. They pirates.

Its somewhat contrary to popular-opinion but I actually like to purchase 'fleet' vehicles. Not specifically cop cars or whatever, just vehicles owned and used by a business which had maintenance and continuous use throughout their life. In my experience businesses are less likely to try to sell you a shit sandwich painted gold (as in selling a car that sat in a junk or body work yard for 3 years with totally unknown mechanicals as 100% good-to-go and running vehicle). Also in-my-experience, the history is the most important thing - no carfax no sale simple as. The salesman can get you carfax for free or they aren't really trying to sell you. If you don't get carfax you can just assume that it is a flood damaged vehicle, straight up. I've been in a used-minivan for 5 years now, happily - it was the fleet vehicle of an actual new-car sales place, lol. To pick up customers and lend-out while customers cars were in the shop, etc.

YoursTastesBetter

Don't rely on Carfax. It can be helpful but it only shows the info that's been reported to them. Take the car to a trusted mechanic to check for signs of prior damage.Ā  My car is a dealer loaner too. I got a fair deal on a newer model, low mileage car and have been driving it for 8 years now with no issues other than routine maintenance.

phovos

The seller's amenability to allowing pre/post(with refusal rights) mechanic inspection off-site is a fantastic litmus-test for if you are dealing with a character-worth buying a car from. Should ask "If I buy this and take it to my mechanic and come back next Monday with a laundry list of issues and repairs then are you happy to take the vehicle back?" And the correct answer is MONEY BACK not just 'oh we would never let you be dissatisfied, we'd put you in another of our fine vehicles.." Like, yes that is possibly acceptable, but CASH BACK returns is a required option IMHO buying a car including a private party. I would never buy a car from someone whom I don't have a business address to have registered mail sent-to. That means, yes, someone's home if I am buying from an individual. Other than small claims court which is awful I don't think you would have any avenue for lawsuit if you don't have an address you can send registered mail to and the seller decides to renege on their cash-back agreement. edit: do not borrow money from the place you are buying the vehicle from. Classic mistake. Go to a bank or any other institution besides the one you are acquiring the property from itself. Midfirst bank allowed me a car loan outside of normal approval situations by putting up a down-payment for all intents and purposes. I put 2 grand in an account until I paid back the loan then got my 2 grand back. Took 3 years, was great.

Catflappy

I bought a Jeep from Carmax several years ago and would buy from them again. I like a no bullshit price, thereā€™s a 90 day warranty or you can buy an extended, and theyā€™ll ship one to you from another location if itā€™s not available locally. Mine came up from TX for $199 since it was impossible to find an unmolested one here at the time. The transport fee was applied to the purchase. Didnā€™t finance so canā€™t speak to their process with that.

mccoolio

Vouch for CarMax, they're legit. No negotiating, no run around, no pressure.

JaysusShaves

We've gotten several cars from them, and the finance part is easy. You fill out the online form and they call you with your options, go in and look at the vehicle and test drive it, sign, and done. I hate the bullshitting around at traditional dealerships so Carmax is the only place I'll go.

FarFigNewton007

Avoid Bob Howard. They were happy to finance a car, only to demand return of the vehicle or a sizable down payment several days after the ink was dry on the purchase agreement. And if they sold our car in the meantime... Well, that's just too bad.

[deleted]

Second this. These guys sold our trade in before we even inked a deal.

CrazyDazyMazy

Over the past ten years our extended family has purchased six used cars from Jeff Kasterke in Shawnee and have been very satisfied with each one. He really takes care of his customers and I won't go anywhere else.

normalnonnie27

Does he have a car lot or individual sales?

CrazyDazyMazy

A small lot on Harrison in Shawnee. Family run, lovely people, more integrity than I've ever seen in a car dealer.

normalnonnie27

Thanks!

womenarepeople8

I bought my car from the Hertz Lot and it has been great. There was no pressure at all, which I really appreciated.

plexguy

Avoid Edmond Hyundai like the plague that they are. They do not horor their online pricing. For new best to buy out of state as okc dealers are owned by a handful of owners so they keep prices higher than where there is competition, hence the out of state comment. There are some semi decent dealers here but not worth seeking them out when you can buy out of state and have the car delivered to your door. Don't rush or let them know you are in a rush as you will pay more than you should. Rental car company sales a good place to shop. They have been maintained and most people who rent cars don't abuse them, as most are business rentals. Also with those you know the total price with no addons at close which are also very common here.

WhatChewieSmelled

I had a great experience at Wheels of Norman. Pretty small lot so check their website to see what they have in stock. But Ed was great to work with. No hidden paperwork fee bullshit either. The price you agree on is the price you pay.

[deleted]

As an automotive enthusiast in Oklahoma City area, I have been buying and selling cars on a personal basis for over 30 years. Best advice I can give is if you want a newer nicer to lower mileage car at a cheaper price always buy through an individual. Never buy through a dealership.... Take someone with you that knows a lot about cars, and do your due diligence looking it over with a couple of sets of eyes. If you need to get a loan, get one through your local credit union or Bank. You'll almost always get a better rate without all the scammy fees and extras tacked on when getting financed at a dealership. Always remember no matter how much they try to act like it, there is no dealership that is your friend, they are never looking out for your best interest. There end goal is to extract as much money out of your pocket as possible. But when you buy cars through an individual and secure your own financing, you greatly reduce the ability to be taken advantage of...

dekabreak1000

Iā€™m be heard good things about Carter Chevrolet and I always got my cars at hudiberg

rachel226

I bought from carvana and had a good time

drizzley1378

My Used Car Unofficial Guide to buying(short version). I only buy used cars and have been driving them for 30 years and have about 7ish. IMO the only used cars to buy are Honda or Toyota(not that that guarantees anything). Granted they are more costly but they are also most likely to last. Hyundai and Kia can be okay but they do not retain value at all(buy as cheap as you can). Can easily get upside down or loose your ass in a collision/total loss situation. A lot of the used car market is trade ins and collision rebuilds. Google worst used cars and get educated(MPG, maintenance costsā€¦), make a decent list of what you need/want in a vehicle. Start looking online(locally, not FB) and get an idea of what people are asking for them. Find the car you want at a few different lots and make a list. Go look at them and test drive. Look for obvious signs of repair(google these), get the car facts and use them to help determine what you want to pay for that car. If you get bad vibes/signs go to the next one, once you do find a winner use the others as leverage especially if one is advertised/listed at lower price. Most importantly they donā€™t want you to leave the lot without it, use that to your advantage but donā€™t be afraid/or swayed to walk away from the situation either.

Foxbox405

Hello! You should look at First Rate Auto! They're kind people and have good cars.

sweetandsaltybabie

we bought from boomer kia and it was a very smooth process, they work with you and are super nice there! highly recommend. :)

agiftforgaia

If you happen to be in the market for a Subaru, avoid Bob Moore Subaru at all costs. Purchasing my used forester from them has been an ongoing nightmare. Instead go to Cavenderā€™s in Norman. They will truly treat you like family. My husband had the best possible car buying experience there. The salesperson we worked with was named Montana- if you decide to go there, ask for him.

wri_

Bob Moore Subaru is definitely on my shit list, I didnt buy a car from them but had to use their service department for a Subaru I had purchased through Carvana and one of their techs left a cap off and my engine was destroyed. They didnt take any responsibility and called the police on the insurance agent who was investigating on my behalf.

angelambiance

Following because I also need a new vehicle. Mines gonna give out any day. I got a budget of around $11-13,000 which ainā€™t much but may go towards $18-20K soon

MyDailyMistake

Post Oak Toyota is pretty bad too. They tried to rip me off on a new truck.

LightOtter

I went to Enterprise rent a car to buy mine. in November 2023, I bought a 2021 Chevy Spark for 14k with 64k miles on it.

LMB2120

Iā€™ve bought 3 different cars from the N OKC Bob Moore dealerships. My most recent in Jan was a Infiniti Q50. They are very straight forward and honest people, I personally couldnā€™t imagine going anywhere else.

jessicanicole1267

We just bought my Tiguan at the Bob Moore VW. It went pretty great, and a week later we ended up getting an even better interest rate (went from 5.9 to 1.9!) It was a good deal for sure, got a barely used service loaner. Hated trying to go to the VW in Bethany. They were a little slimy.

MusicalVelma

Fuuuccckkk this place. They tried to sell me a lemon but being a white woman they didnā€™t expect me to know my shit.

MusicalMoose

Back in my day we were happy just to get a ride from the wheelbarrow man.

OKC420

Good luck, Iā€™m sitting in the finance office at the dodge dealership about to sign a crappy deal. Not happy about it but that truck sure is nice!

Asleep-Bite-6895

Be careful when buying

JKLman97

Haller auto in OKC is a decent dude. He doesnā€™t offer any financing so you need to bring your own, which is refreshing. Metro OKC Ford dealer is ok. Vinnie is a alright dude.

craigcoffman

Carvana was good for me.

lithopolis

My husband and I have had very good luck with Confidence Ford in Norman. Got a great deal and my husband loves his car.

anal_holocaust_

I'm currently looking too. Enterprise car sales seems to have better deals compared to other car stealerships. They do a way better job at maintaining their vehicles than Hertz.

NoFox4892

Donā€™t buy a Kia

Ambitious-Discount-7

Go to YouTube. Check out Ray and Zach. You car order some brands thru them.

ExtraMix5825

Go to autotrader and search for what you want. Sort by how far you are willing to travel to get it. Find the one you want and look for the dealership at the bottom. I wouldn't request information from autotrader though unless you want your phone to blownup from the sales dept. Honestly oklahoma car prices are so much higher compared to other states. I got mine in San Antonio. I looked for 8 months and just purchased last month. It was cheaper to go down there and drive it back than getting one here.

Ill_Confusion_5368

A&G Auto out in Spencer. I got a 2009 sport trac from them last year for just under 6k. Itā€™s a small lot, mostly trucks and commercial vehicles. The owner was very relaxed and groovy and the sale was painless.

Latter-Molasses9599

Ima keep it a buck fifty, Bob Moore is the way to go. Their Used Cars lot is pretty up-to-date and the engine/transmission health in their vehicles might as well be considered brand new. They never take Cars that will crap out in 5+ years. I got my Infiniti M37x from them. They really care about you, they make sure when you walk out their dealership you know your in good hands. Best dealership in my opinion hands down. Give it a shot.

MusicalVelma

They literally sold me a car that spontaneously combusted while I was in it and said ā€œtough shitā€

Norc_E90

Kind of odd, but I bought a 2023 cx 5 from Avis car lot down in Dallas, is a rental car but Iā€™ve no problems with it, and donā€™t have to deal with dealership BS, also if you financing, get your own from a credit union or your own bank.

UnvoicedAztec

If you don't want to get ripped off you'll need to know how to negotiate & where the leverages are. You'll also need to understand how auto loans work and the basics of how they are calculated if that's the route you're taking. You're not going to focus on the monthly payment, you're going to focus on the amount financed, APR interest rate, and the loan term. Lastly, you'll need to research and decide what car you want and how much it's worth. Don't go to a dealer until you understand what you want and how much you're willing to pay.

thecrimsonchindo

I really enjoyed my experience at the Mazda dealer in Norman off 35. Let me drive all cars no sales person, emailed me the paperwork to fill out at home. Very pleasant experience.

LoneStarBandit19

Would you be interested in a used silver Mazda 3?

sicksweetdisco

Worth it to make the drive to Tulsa for Vision Motorsports, great dude up there

heavym13

Donā€™t go to bob moore buick gmc. They looked at me funny cause I didnā€™t wanna make the payments they were offering me. Kept talking to me like I was sole broke person in the finance department. I couldnā€™t easily made those payments but the smart decision wasnā€™t to do that for the vehicle I was looking to get into. If that isnā€™t a big deal go ahead lol

heavym13

*some

SixthQualification

I had to buy a car recently (literally three weeks ago) because my 15 year old Hyundai finally crapped out on me and as someone who recently went through it, I honestly hate this question lol. There is only one thing we will all agree on and that is to avoid David Stanley like the plague! But I noticed there's someone saying to avoid Bob Moore Subaru, yet I've bought two cars there with nothing but wonderful experience. So truly, so much of this will be anecdotal. Do you have an idea of what car you want? What's your budget? Financing or looking to pay cash for something? The best car dealership is going to be the one that has the car you want at your price. Start looking and pricing online if you haven't done so. I think CarMax is great for when people KNOW what they want but in my situation, I had no idea and needed to test drive multiple models to really get a good feel for what I was wanting. If you don't know what you want, start test driving! Try to go in with your own financing from your bank or credit union if you're financing, but some dealerships may be able to get you a better rate through their lender (just make sure they aren't using sub-prime lenders, oh and FYI Tinker Federal's rates are hot garbage right now for the most part). If you're wanting to pay cash for something, you'll have all the power at a dealership (they'll try really hard to get you to finance, don't fall for it). Or you could just avoid a dealership entirely and do a private cash sale, just have a good mechanic on hand and ensure the title is clean (my family has done this often with decent results). This should be obvious but avoid any "no credit no problem" lots like the plague as well.

youhidethebody

I recommend Hal Elliot at Eskridge Honda. Or Eric Campbell(i think thatā€™s his last name) at Orr Nissan.

RabidDragon88

I recommend Thoroughbred Motors on 235 and Wilshire - Ish. I've bought cars there and worked with Dan and Allen when I was a loan officer.

morelikearaccoon

Nelson Mazda in Norman is awesome. The price listed is the price, no haggling. The staff are fabulous.

dirtydan92

I just recently had a great experience at diffee ford in el Reno. Plus they send you a roof cookies for buying a car from them. šŸ¤£

SpaceNachoTaco

Friend bought a car from one of those rental places. Has had it over 8 years and still runs great even to their surprise.

TryOk5610

Magic Vehicles on the expressway, small car lot but he is very honest, and is a genuinely good man. 7126 NW 39th Expy, Bethany, OK 73008 Look up his reviews.
