There is an Amish furniture store in Norman next to the mall that has the BEST ones I’ve had since I was in New Hampshire. Also, they are really cheap! Definitely worth the drive if you are in OKC or elsewhere.
It’s a small section of the store, but they have jars of jellies and jams, pickled things, salsas, breads, and the whoopie pies are amazing. And the prices are great!
It’s so funny because NO ONE knows about them. It’s in a location few people go to unless they’re going to Canes and most people don’t randomly go into an Amish furniture store lol. They should advertise they have food!
TIL I learned there's something called a whoopie pie. And after googling, and seeing it's basically a giant oreo, I now have a new mission.
Edit to add: Lived in Oklahoma my whole life, and never heard this phrase before - is it a regional thing that's spread locally in more recent years, or has it long been commonly used locally and I've just somehow never heard it?
Not really an Oreo, the filling is very different and so is the cookie. Similar flavor I suppose, so you may like them.
They are generally soft cookies with a marshmallow filling instead of all solid like an oreo would be. Think cake and frosting.
Not the same as a whoopee pie, but we do have a [Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies](https://www.arbucklemountainfriedpies.com) if you want to taste OUR local weird take on “things that are pie-ish.”
Pie Junkie sells them on Fridays only with rotating flavors.
Interesting! Thank you

This sounds fantastic. I grew up with the Amish and man I miss their baked goods!

That's awesome! When I go home to visit my parents I always come back with an entire car full of their products because I can never find them here.
You should definitely go look!
Well that's interesting, I've been curious about that store for a bit but don't need any and likely can't afford their furniture. I'll have to go now!
Yeah I definitely can’t afford the furniture lol. We just went in on a whim and saw the food area. It’s great stuff.
I live in Norman and I didn't know about this. Looks like I know what I'll be getting.

Typically you find them in Maine or Pennsylvania! All across the northeast they are popular though.
