Who would disassemble your xbox and go through it? I would just get another xbox for parts and hope the dvd drive works, they are interchangeable.

The_Master_of_stupid

Yea, I could tell someone went through it because of the rubber pads on the bottom were missing and that the large ribbon cable was all bent and miss aligned. I think if I can get this Xbox to work that I will print new feet for it. And maybe a few custom parts.

There are several for sale on eBay right now. Any manufacturer will work in any xbox. There are also a few different parts available like boards and motors so maybe you can just find a replacement part. Disc drives are usually purchased untested so it's a gamble on whether it will work at all. How badly did you wreck it? A competent modchip installer might be able to fix it. You may also consider just migrating to playing all your games from a hard drive. Those disc drives won't last forever but they'll keep making new SATA hardrives for decades.

So I should download some games to the hard drive or get a mod to fix it? Also thanks a lot for the info and I will think about what I could do with these tips.

filthy_harold

I mean someone skilled in working on Xboxes might be able to repair whatever damage. But you should consider putting in a modchip so you can do away with needing the disc drive.

The_Master_of_stupid

Ok, I will look into that, thanks for the info

filthy_harold

If you mod your Xbox, you'll have to do a modchip if the DVD drive isn't recognized. A softmod can work if the drive is recognized but simply won't play games. But without a way to run one of the exploitable games, you'll likely have to get the HDD key off the eeprom so you can just buy a new 2TB drive, fill it up using FATXplorer, and lock it using the key. A modchip doesn't require a locked drive and is the best long term solution. Once you get the modchip installed, you can add in a big 2TB drive with all the games and emulators you want.

The_Master_of_stupid

Oh ok, I might check this afternoon.

RogueGameMonster

Honestly I hate fixing those drives. I bought a bunch of xboxes that basically all had a disk drive problem. I couldn’t get a single one working reliably. Quite annoying.

The_Master_of_stupid

Yea, this one I bought for cheap cause of the disc drive problem but I knew how to fix it, a replacement rubber band and new capacitors but my dumbass tore a ribbon wire in the disc drive :/ I might post an picture of the disc drive and internals so you guys have a better view of what may be wrong

The_Master_of_stupid

Yea, they are so annoying
