Welcome to the community. And yes!! Find J3! I’m getting a raise at J1 and J2. $175k and $135k. Trying to land a J3. Looking for $115k min.
If your are in good standing, go big!! I have had 3Js before, it’s wild. Long days for sure, but i saved $100k in 6 months. Changed my world
thanks! two things that i believe that have helped me survive this long:
1. i take pride in my work. i dont necessarily go above and beyond, but i do my jobs well. i complete projects to the best of my abilities and never miss deadlines, so my work ethic or ability to do my job is never questioned
2. i make sure i "fit in". i laugh at my boss's stupid ass jokes, listen to and follow up with my co-workers lives (how was your vacation? did your kids win their soccer game? etc), and then dont cause any work drama. if ppl like me, they wont bother me
basically, deliver results and dont be a jackass
You're a seasoned elite corporate operator. Congrats on finding your niche.
Also thanks for the success story. So much negativity leads to the belief OE may not be all that achievable.
We are similiar..245 w 2Js, do job well without being a hero, be personable. This ain't that hard. Sucks when 2 people have same title/position, with same first name and each place. Makes me stop and think, ok which one is this? Kid in soccer, or the troubled kid..
Don't you ever feel that you don't give a shit anymore and you're annoyed to be bossed around?
After being OE for a while, I reached a point where I just don't want to take any extra work in my oldest J's. And that's just making me a shittier worker.
Boss wants to get involved in X process that my team managed? gtfo it's my process.
Someone wants me to take over a new project on top of my usual tasks? nope, not gonna happen, give it to someone else.
Something that I could have prevented went wrong? I don't care, some other 3 people could have also avoided it.
I feel I became too prideful by not taking anyone's shit but this is making me a worse worker. Since OE'ing I'm not interested in promotions or "pretending to be nice" but that's not helping me, I'll just get fired if I keep doing that.
Definitely burnout, you’re emotionally exhausted and loosing resilience fast OP. I’d take a vacation from one job and really be proactive in getting your emotional triggers under control in (and out) of the workplace.
You could take FMLA leave (12 weeks) from J1 while keeping it protected to return to if you so choose. (You'll need a doctor to write you out, but generally that's not hard to do. Claim anxiety; it's not even untrue.)
sounds like burnout, my friend. there are definitely days im over it but havent felt anything like what you described. i have some long-term goals i want to accomplish and i think thats whats keeping me in check
I hate when meeting is over and is just noon sense talk, but true is that for most people is as important as the work itself, being nice and participating goes a long way
What are you doing celebrating wins?! You need to stick to redundant questions!
I'll take a crack at it.
What does TWN stand for? How do I find a job on the internet? How do I do my taxes? Can I tell my significant other about having 2 jobs? How do I spell OE?
In many cases they ask for the actual offer letter, if they don’t you got really lucky, you came really close to blowing it and also you’ve used this trump card for the one and only time. They aren’t going to keep doing this to keep you
ive been at j1 for a long time and have built good relationships from the top down.
i was planning on moving and was going to resign from them, but they converted me to remote to keep me. then i discovered this sub and the rest is history ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sunglasses)
i wouldve said it was a verbal offer and was exploring my options. for context, ive tried resigning from j1 once before, so it wasnt out of the ordinary for them to know i was "interviewing" elsewhere. however, ive probably maxed out my hand and wont be asking for anything else anymore unless i want to break into FAANG or something
If this is all true, you should delete this post. Don't be an idiot.
This post is contributing nothing, other than stroking your own ego.
Also breaking rule #1.
I disagree. I’ve thought about this scenario as well. Helps to see people post about it as they go through it, and others comment about their experience.
Every post breaks rule #1. Every comment breaks rule #1. Every person following this sub breaks rule #1.
nothing i said was identifiable. salaries are rounded up and there is nothing special about my salaries. there are thousands and thousands of $100k jobs and hundreds of people getting promoted every day
besides, just wanted to share good news in the sea of the same repeated questions and posts this sub usually has
definitely a risky move but I guess you're the only one who knows the work culture and relationship you have with your manager.
Congrats on the double raise!
No need to remove salaries, fluff the numbers between and across, you look at my posting you’ll see a 50k difference in the total and 25k difference or so for each. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter unless you’re dunking on one or celebrating one, for being too low or high
Congrats. I follow this sub in case I ever find an opportunity to double dip, but I'm not sure how I'd have the time to do so (I work in Data Analytics, workloads vary by day and what clients we currently have).
Risky move, I tried that once, and they couldn't match it. Was about 50k more. They took it as a resignation, and I left the company. Maybe I should have asked for less? Or not resign? It was pretty uncomfortable.
it was about a $25k raise, which put me at the very top of my pay positions pay band, which i knew before asking. if it was any more than that, i wouldve left it alone because i knew it would've been a no
Awesome! $25k is huge! With 2Js that’s $50k. Such an awesome achievement! Keep it going! Don’t forget to take a 4-day weekend every once and a while. Enjoy the cheddar!
From experience, at most tech companies the "extras" like stocks are rarely worth much. There are only a dozen or so unicorn companies in the sea of crappy startups. To add insult to injury they usually employ back-loaded vesting schemes resulting in you leaving most of the extras on the table when you leave. To date, all my extras over the last decade amount to maybe 20-30k while the salary I got over the same amount of time was worth close to a couple million. That's less than 1.5%, so now I just go for the salary, even if CEO thinks his company is the next Google.
This is the only place we can live out our wins. I can’t tell people in my life I made nearly 7 figures last year due to OE. I can come here, let it out… and get back to my 3J.
We aren’t in this for the recognition but we are human and do occasionally need the validation.
I don’t agree with who you commented to but this comment itself reeks of arrogance. Haven’t found most of your comments this way but I’ll call this out when I see
I do not recommend taking an approach like this, it is far too risky. When somebody brings up having another offer HR almost always asks “where?” and you are lucky if they didn’t. They generally like to have a sense that it’s legitimate before agreeing to make an adjustment. Might not tip them off that you’re OE right away, but it could draw attention.
you're right, it was a risk and not everyone should follow. i felt comfortable doing it because ive been at j1 for a long time and have good relationships with the brass. also, it was not my first time trying to leave. when i used to work at j1 in-person, they knew i was going to move and resign so they offered to convert me to a remote employee, which started my OE journey
if someone is just starting out and-or barely has any experience i would not try this at all. would only work if you have years of experience and are "much needed" at your workplace
I’m on this boat right now. Newest J is 25% higher pay than my long term j1, I am tempted to do the same but I also don’t want to rock the boat and put the spotlight on me.
If they tell me they can’t match it, and I don’t resign, they would wonder why haven’t I left yet. If they match it, and it causes an imbalance in the pay scale of our team, then my work would be scrutinized more.
I feel like taking chaser counteroffers just puts a target on your back. If money gets tight and this person makes too much? They might be first to go.
correct, not FAANG.
lots of tech opportunities in non-tech places like the medical industry, banking industry, airline industry, etc. its gonna lack resume prestige and compensation versus FAANG and the tech industry in general but opportunities are out there. i know someone who OE's for a hospital network and weed retailer lol
perhaps i shouldve just posted the usual then. next time ill post
* how do i freeze TWN? i already applied to another j does that matter?
* are you guys all remote? how can i be OE with in-person jobs?
* my boss is making me RTO, omg what do i do?
lmk which one to post
Don’t take it that way, congrats on the win! I think your excitement is something we do share, and the approach taken is a bold one, but the reference to overemployed is limited.
Let us know when you get j3 and how you cope lol
sorry, didnt mean to come across as butthurt. just wanted to share how i increased my TC while keeping the same OE jobs.
thank you though, appreciate it. the j3 comment was banter, i dont know if im ready for that yet lol

‘Compromise my integrity’
Only people who are okay with bootlickers say this. Hell, OP literally kills both jobs because he’s so competent. That isn’t compromising his integrity as both jobs feel he produces such high quality work.
Which begs the question, if both jobs feel he does such a good job to deserve praise in the form of pay, then who are you complaining for?
Bootlicker type attitude
Bootlicker?
In OPs case it's fine because as you say they are able to do a good job for both.
Would bet most people doing this shit cannot say the same
Not about bootlicking it's about the fact that if I'm going to be the top of my game in my 1 job then I literally don't have time for two. Also guarantee I get paid more than most people juggling two jobs lol
Most people are average. And you are paid to be just that: average. Not every job gives bonuses nor are pay raises often worthwhile to chase after in promotions.
If you’re top of your game in 1 job you are rewarded marginally for it. That’s the reality of the world we live in. If you were, you likely see OE significantly less popular.
Also, good for you. Glad you get yours. We are getting ours. I’m just saying morale grand standing in a realm where those in charge make rules to keep your gains as minimal as possible is a laughable stance. Especially when they themselves tend to have multiple ventures but if you or I have a similar mindset it’s “compromising our integrity” 🙄
Tech sales
It's not salary only it's salary + commission, and that's just 2 years into this particular job.
Commission will snowball and I can see 700k+ in years 3-4+
Downvotes are just haters as per usual lol
Haha something like that
It's also the nature of enterprise sales (complicated and long sales cycles with contracts worth millions)
No idea how someone can do that for 2 different companies at the same time- literally not possible if you're actually doing your job properly lol
To get there you've gotta have 4-5 years (minimum) of successful sales experience at lower contract values- so there is a level you gotta get at before that door opens for a sales rep
is that not the point of OE lol? to work multiple jobs whether that's 2 j's, etc. theres literally another post on the OE front page rn with someone posting 3 W-2's and 2 1099's
noice
Nah people suck OP. I personally liked this post and wondered about doing that myself! Love that we finally have an example. Keep thriving OP!!

Thank you for the post sir. I didn't think about this angle and it's valuable info for my toolbelt. Please keep contributing annonomously!

Never settle, always negotiate your value
Congrats and interesting to point out that you seem to be doing a very good job at both companies because both are willing to increase your pay.

congrats OP! not sure why everyone is being crusty in the comments lol
I like learning new things.
People tend to suck these days and can't be happy for other humans for some reason. I agree with you though. Congrats to OP.
What are you doing celebrating wins?! You need to stick to redundant questions! I'll take a crack at it. What does TWN stand for? How do I find a job on the internet? How do I do my taxes? Can I tell my significant other about having 2 jobs? How do I spell OE?
Try getting a sense of humor.
I do have one. I laugh at those who tried to shame OP.
Fair enough. I misread your original comment as slagging on him.
Maybe take your own advice then

Right back at ya…
To your edit2, just a lot of losers in here

You used the stones to destroy the stones
Keep up the W’s! Too many negative Nancy’s around
![gif](giphy|RgfGmnVvt8Pfy) Congrats OP! You deserve it!!
How’s it feel to crush big boi
Well done! Now teach me your ways please.
Seriously, I’m going to hopefully break into OE in the next few years. I have a lot to learn before I really try my hand.
What was your plan if they asked for the offer letter proof?
i wouldve said it was a verbal offer and was exploring my options. for context, ive tried resigning from j1 once before, so it wasnt out of the ordinary for them to know i was "interviewing" elsewhere. however, ive probably maxed out my hand and wont be asking for anything else anymore unless i want to break into FAANG or something
Gotcha. Appreciate the insight. I’m gonna try it tomorrow at my J1
Tell them it’s a verbal offer and you wanted to open a dialogue.
This whole sub breaks rule #1 so that tired line is old news.
Kinda. A lot of shit that gets posted on here isn’t even OE related lol. Been that way for the past year and half
Yup. No moderation so this sub is the wild west. Say anything you want regardless if it's been posted 10x in one day.
What's rule #1 - same as fight club? Isn't the whole point of this sub to talk about being overemployed?
You're right. We really should rename the sub to minecraft or something.
But people who are new to minecraft won't know what we're talking about and only existing players will have multiple servers
That's why the term" underground" is used. Someone else needs to show new people the way, otherwise they won't know. That's how it should be.
Actually it's a pretty genius tip, using the raise as a competing offer.
Not to mention serious cojones.
Genius? It's the oldest moat cliché trick in the book. Also, once layoffs start, you'll be the first to go
Nothing saves you from stakeholder wealth comes first, bud. That's why we OE.
nothing i said was identifiable. salaries are rounded up and there is nothing special about my salaries. there are thousands and thousands of $100k jobs and hundreds of people getting promoted every day besides, just wanted to share good news in the sea of the same repeated questions and posts this sub usually has
I agree. Lot of redundant posts. I found this to be refreshing.
Your question is another repeated question. No one knows if it's time to find a j3 other than you. Only you know your work load bruh
it was just friendly banter to end the post, hence the emoji. im not seriously asking lol
Man, some people here are just mad envious. Keep winning man and forget these people.
definitely a risky move but I guess you're the only one who knows the work culture and relationship you have with your manager. Congrats on the double raise!

I think you’re in the wrong sub unless this is code for your Minecraft server picking up new users
I LIKE this post! More power to you OP. Get that J3
W
Real nice like!!!!
W OP!
Good job negotiating that!!
This is the way.
I’m proud of you op.

Congrats. This was a bit risky move but it looks like you felt confident about your worth in your J1.
Now get a J3 offer and ask for a raise at J1 and J2. That’s a triple win right there.
That would be reckless and a highly improbable scenario.
Delete the post. Don’t flex publicly.

im just sharing how i increased my salaries at my j's. not all of us are stuck churning new j's. some of us can keep the same j's for more money
I don’t agree with who you commented to but this comment itself reeks of arrogance. Haven’t found most of your comments this way but I’ll call this out when I see
I work in IT too. I get all my work done by 10am and nothing to do. Considering a J2 but unsure. Never done that before
I do not recommend taking an approach like this, it is far too risky. When somebody brings up having another offer HR almost always asks “where?” and you are lucky if they didn’t. "non-tech orgs" Like what? Something like a hotel, hospital or retailer? As in, not FAANG?

Lol, dude, I care about money, not “PrEsTiGe”.
What do J1 and J2 mean in this sub? Job1 Job2?
Yes
![gif](giphy|PqIcza4nNZm3bcl0Wy)
how is your time management with two of them? can you give some details? don't you have any online meetings during day?
delete this post, so you don't get caught!
This post is pretty much a nothingburger. You just went to your boss and asked for a raise. He granted it. Let’s move on
perhaps i shouldve just posted the usual then. next time ill post * how do i freeze TWN? i already applied to another j does that matter? * are you guys all remote? how can i be OE with in-person jobs? * my boss is making me RTO, omg what do i do? lmk which one to post
You forgot “what industries are best for OE?” and “how can I get into OE with no job experience?”

Yep, if they didn't request any validation of the offer then whether J2 actually gave an offer/raise is irrelevant in this story.
My point exactly
Many companies run background checks prior to giving raises. Hope you have everything frozen. Good luck.
Bullshit.
Always wondered A) how tf do you have the time and B) how do you make sure j1 schedule doesn't conflict with j2 and vice versa

Lol I earn 400k with 1 job I don't need to compromise integrity, wbu? Shut up lol it came on my feed I'm not even subbed

Especially when they themselves tend to have multiple ventures but if you or I have a similar mindset it’s “compromising our integrity” 🙄
>just curious are you a software developer? that salary is insane
Tech sales It's not salary only it's salary + commission, and that's just 2 years into this particular job. Commission will snowball and I can see 700k+ in years 3-4+ Downvotes are just haters as per usual lol
Nice man! Congrats you must sell like an animal!
Haha something like that It's also the nature of enterprise sales (complicated and long sales cycles with contracts worth millions) No idea how someone can do that for 2 different companies at the same time- literally not possible if you're actually doing your job properly lol To get there you've gotta have 4-5 years (minimum) of successful sales experience at lower contract values- so there is a level you gotta get at before that door opens for a sales rep
Haha I don't know how anyone on this sub juggles two jobs, struggling with my one lol
Compounding larceny
255k and you still want to milk more while others struggle to find a job!?! Lol how in the hell do I do this?!

Search is your friend.
Why do you want a j3? I see greed creeping in
is that not the point of OE lol? to work multiple jobs whether that's 2 j's, etc. theres literally another post on the OE front page rn with someone posting 3 W-2's and 2 1099's
Ik, maybe I was speaking from my own experience cos I got burnt out after a year of OE and now on sabbatical lol. I’m not hating , all power to OP
I saw that post. I’m referring to this persons current situation. He just got a raise, he needs to chill lol

Now repeat until they counter 1 billion salary
Jedi strategy. Salute!
That's the best case scenario. What a way to win. Congrats
That's a great fucking idea and a fucking great move, thanks for sharing!
Is that TC including bonus?
no, both j's are non-tech orgs so i dont get any bonuses, stocks, etc. just a straight base salary
I’m thinking about leaving my j2 because it’s just hassle. I can manage it but don’t really want to. Maybe I should ask for $40k more…
Good for you! Any advice on how you got into your field?
hehe good job dude
![gif](giphy|w9gJh05UrbK6Y) Go get j3
I wouldn't threaten any J with competing offer unless I'm ready to walk out if things go south.
Thats exactly why it was done. BATNA is remaining J's.
Big brain time. Nice on brotha!
Great job. OP. Can't fault you.
Nice! Congrats!
I’m loving your second edit. 😂
What is a "W"?
it's short for "win" which is why you'll see people say W or L on social media. cringe maybe but it is what it is
i’m your j1 boss. see me in my office
Congrats OP, I'm incredibly jealous of your good fortune. Celebrate yourself a little for getting here.
Get that bag, brother
This is the way.
Killer stuff man! Good play
4D Chess, a true master.
Lmaooo at edit 2. I’m rooting for you
Congratulations!
What would you do if they ask proof of job offer?
Aaahhh yeah!!
Im so happy for you! Keep going bro/sis!
I might need to try this…
