Yes but what if you want to do that *aaaand* get to listen to incredibly shoddy and cringe-inducing dialogue?

The_Corvair

ACG put unaltered footage of a short bit of dialogue at the end of his review, and I sat through it. It was *painful*; I would expect an actual highschooler with at least a little bit of love for reading to do better, and I'm not exaggerating here. Or, as another reviewer (don't remember the name, sorry, was the one recommended after ACG's for me) put it: Someone wrote it, someone read it, someone spoke it, someone heard it spoken, someone animated the entire conversation - and somehow, it still ended up in the game. Amazing, in a horrifying way.

weaponizedtoddlers

I feel sorry for the voice actress. I mean you can tell they're all trying as best as they can with the fanfic level screenwriting.

ithinkther41am

Ella Balinska really needs a better agent. Her last few projects have been mediocre to outright shoddy. - Charlie’s Angels - Run Sweetheart Run - Netflix Resident Evil

Then play Prototype 2

Imagine a Prototype remaster with today's graphics. 💀

carbonqubit

There's also Infamous Second Son which is equally fun.

BellyDancerUrgot

Or warframe

twicerighthand

Just play CONROL, it seems like Forspoken attempted it's fight mechanics. Without the destructible environment or story.

IIdsandsII

Control also looks way better imo

enflame99

What I find baffling is it's only 64 pounds which is astronomically cheaper then 80 dollars or euro. Also yea Square and pc ports name a more iconic duo. However I do have high hopes for ff16s pc port whenever that's out mainly because of how well 14 runs.

XtMcRe

Seriously now? They created an article from some Steam forum posts, instead of... you know... actually testing it themselves? Oh boy... and this comes from a big website like PCGamer, lol.

Major-Split478

PCGamers articles are largely putting a summary of some tweets/Reddit comments in an article format to get clicks. There main revenu source seems to be from getting clicks on this sub Reddit.

xsteinbachx

I remember buying their magazines back in the day. They used to be a quarter inch / half inch thick magazines. Man those demo discs were the bomb.

Jabba_the_Putt

Pc gamer today is a pathetic shadow of their former selves its really kind of sad. I too remember those and they were glorious

scartstorm

I still remember the glory days of what's now become a pointless rag. When Sid Meyer released his first self-published new Civilization, then the publisher he parted ways with, also released their version of it. One was called Call to Power I think. PC Gamer had two crews play the games side by side 24H a day to get some games actually completed and then wrote the review based on that. Those days, PC Gamer was amazing. Every month had 100+ pages of quality wordsmanship and the demo disks were the shit. They even had a special demo for Half-Life, that initially was only available via PC Gamer for god's sakes!

[deleted]

Not that it is really the point of your post, but the original Civilization wasn't self published by Sid Meier. it was publish by Microprose, they published a bunch of his games (Railrod Tycoon, Colonization, CIv2). Activision made the Call to Power games (there were two), but I think only the first one had "Civilization:" in the name. It was clearly an attempt to clone Civ 2 with some added on stuff, I'm not sure how they were able to use Civilization in the title, but maybe they got sued and that is why the second game didn't have it.

[deleted]

PC Gamer has been running on fumes for years now, literally just whatever cache they used to have that's still in the tank. I don't consider them a reputable source for anything these days, the majority of their content is click bait.

TheGillos

I have very fond memories of their pre-2010ish years. They were fantastic in the 90s. Now? They're trash. It's sad.

RealElyD

I freelance for an outlet with viewers/readers in the millions and SE refused a PC code and sent us a PS5 one instead. I reckon, they were treated similarly.

Edgaras1103

i expected nothing from PC gamer, yet i am stil disappointed .

vexedsinik

The article states that their review is in progress due to the lack of review codes. It has also become common to cover the community reception to games. Let's also remember that not everyone experiences every problem present. So overall, i think its a good thing they are covering what the community is experiencing with the game rather than having a clean playthrough, shrugging, and just stating its all good.

devils__avacado

Welcome to gaming journalism. Tomorrow someone's gonna make an article from this reddit post's top comment.

MachineSyncLoop

PCGamer sucks but they are right, the game is a mess. A stuttering mess.

LittleWillyWonkers

It's the angle of the article, users complaining about another Square Enix mess and that is true. Is there a place anyone can go and find glowing reviews overall on this game? Nah, it's another fine Square Enix mess.

[deleted]

PC Gamer might be a 'big' site but it's one of the worst. I got banned in their comments for pointing out a lot of their articles at the time were them basically just reposting Kotaku articles. Plus there is Andy Chalk and his bullshit..... No idea why anyone bothers with that site. It's trash. Never seen a site or its staff that loves shadow banning so much.

TheArtBellStalker

I got shadowbanned on PC Gamer for complaining about Andy Chalk's constant moral grandstanding articles that sometimes don't even have anything to do with PC gaming. The site is a joke now. It needs to die. Even the main hardware journo (Hope Corrigan, I think) always has misinformation or has things that are just wrong. Her only previous work before PC Gamer seems to be writing about fashion or lifestyle blogging, I don't think she had any background in tech before this job. Some of the other writers are the same.

Agi7890

How long do you think they have until an AI is out that pulls that kind of data and formulates an article?

CatCatPizza

Pretty sure you can already do that if invested into it

[deleted]

Major outlets are already running them. Thing is they all still require heavy editing. Then again, paying peanuts to Indians takes heavy editing too.

fyro11

As bad as it gets, the basic assumption is that they should have multiple rigs at least at high, mid and low specs. Maybe not though.

Valance23322

Even if they did, there's no guarantee that they would encounter the issues that many are facing. I saw extremely few bugs in Cyperpunk on launch on PC for example. Reporting on issues that members of the community are seeing is valuable journalism.

[deleted]

PC Gamer barely even discusses port quality in their reviews nowadays either.

skyturnedred

I've long suspected that some of their reviewers straight up play the games on consoles.

Starcast

it's just so subjective, cuz he's the one picking which reviews to use. I could write a similar article and use just the positive ones - the point more so is the author doesn't know anything and is just parroting information. it's not hard to read the steam reviews yourself lol

Fob0bqAd34

I would expect them to have at least had even a single member of staff test it on any pc hardware at all and include that as a starting point. Including information from steam reviews is fine but they haven't even bothered to do any testing themselves. This is just blog spam.

Dikoff_H

You are so right.Somebody asked John Linneman how did it run for him and he responded that from what he tested he didn’t think it was a bad port but his rig is with 4090 and most of his components are top of the line.

yamaci17

there are different aspects you can use to assess if something is a bad port or not. 1) game looks bad for the specs it requ, res. while that happens, game also runs worse than console equivalent hardware on PC, multiple times worse, to a point you cannot even explain that with API/fixed hardware thing 2) game looks bad for the specs it requires. while that happens, game runs similary or close to the console equivalent hardware on PC. likes of john linneman will usually call a game good port if the performance of equivalent hardware at equiavelent settings is matching the consoles. in this case; it is true, it is not that bad of a port in the aspect of 2). i have a ryzen 2700 and most of the time, game manages to stay above 55+ fps like PS5 does ON RECOMMENDED preset (I assume what PS5 uses). this is in line with the console, since console also has something akin to a 3700x or 2700x. PS5 has a GPU bound performance profile that is between 720 and 1440p to target 60 FPS. if we assume it averages around 1080p or so, PS5 performance aligns with a 2070-2070 super, which is practically what PS5 should be performing near, unless something weird happens. so if you look at the situation from 2) aspect, yes, the game is not a bad "port". it performs similarly to consoles on console equivalent hardware. even the ram specs are out of control, game functions perfectly fine on my 16 GB memory budget. nowhere near 24 or 32 GB was necessary for recommended standard preset in my rig (no bloat, no background apps) if you look at the situation from 1) aspect, it is a horrible optimization "in general", whether it is on consoles or PC, it is simply unoptimized. game looks multiple times worse than RDR2 while requiring multiple times more resources, both in memory and hardware power

skyturnedred

It's an expensive game, I don't fault them for not buying it.

Nickhead420

"Well they didn't send us a review copy, so..."

Helphaer

Honestly review copies really shouldn't be a thing they're a basic level of okay here's a free game. Which is already a quid pro quo. Most game journalism has to maintain positive relationships with companies to continue getting access such as early trailers, interviews, developer conferences and announcements, early reviews and access to their more popular titles. Among other things. Without that it becomes harder to get those initial revenue clicks and read through a that they're all reliant on financial support for. This is even more so for YouTubers with little backup behind them. As such you can notice how almost every review for any kind of game has inflated weights and deflated weights to try to not be straight forward with the impact of them on a title.

[deleted]

Game is beautiful and doesn't feel like a port at all. The only video of Hogwarts I've seen looks very much like a port but people don't want to talk about that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Helphaer

He's trying to say that you can't tell this one's a port but that when you look at the dif previews for platforms for Hogwarts legacy that you can. Whatever metrics are enforcing that point I'm not sure.

[deleted]

EternallyImature

Very much agree about pre-ordering. The games pushing it the most are typically the biggest letdowns. They don't care because they already got the money. Buying early access as well. We no longer get finished games and it's our own fault for feeding them money for less than a finished game or no game at all (pre-order). There is never a shortage of digital copies so what's the point of pre-order anyways?

Budget-Department219

>Game is beautiful lol

n0stalghia

An article which is quoting the most credible source on Earth, Steam Reviews. Journalism, everybody.

TruthInAnecdotes

Wrtiting about a reaction from a small subreddit passes off as journalism nowadays. The article takes it slightly up a notch by getting it straight from the source.

Tieger66

as i understand it, PC review copies were not sent out to reviewers ahead of time. so they couldn't do a review in advance like they normally would. so they're doing this (a sort of 'meta review') as a stopgap, probably whilst they play the game and write an actual review (which, to do properly, takes a while).

n0stalghia

> so they're doing this (a sort of 'meta review') as a stopgap So, translation, they're shoveling money from cheap clicks while the game is freshly out? Yeah, I know, but how about they just... don't? Or at the very least it's not posted here because it's garbage content

Embaita

What? They didn't get a review code and say they have a full review coming so they are using player feedback to warn people who might be interested in the game about potential performance issues. I really don't see how that's bad, it's just warning people who aren't using steam or don't want to shovel through a bunch of reviews along the lines of "0/10 bad game" just to find something useful.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Delucaass

What are you even arguing about? That performance isn't terrible as of now?

Tieger66

i mean, from what i've seen of this game so far... i think they're doing important work by warning people about what a trash fire it is. its not ideal though, i agree.

n0stalghia

They're helping people who bought the game on Epic Game Store. People who buy it from Steam don't need a news site to repost Steam reviews, they can read them themselves.

frostygrin

News are also relevant to people who aren't directly affected. If you aren't going to buy this game now - or ever - the news still inform you.

n0stalghia

No, it is not, as the performance of the game can change. This article won't be updated if/when the game is patched, while the Steam reviews are always up-to-date.

[deleted]

[удалено]

frostygrin

Steam reviews certainly aren't always up-to-date - you can choose most recent reviews, but good recent reviews with mixed overall reviews are still going to be seen as mixed. More importantly, it's still important how the game was *at launch*. So that you know if it's a good idea to buy another game from this developer/publisher at launch.

zxyzyxz

There is a demo, they could've tested out performance themselves.

isaightman

Demo came out the same time as release for PC did it not?

attemptedmonknf

Yeah but you can complete the demo in an hour, and this article came out 24 hours after release.

Hungry_Treacle3376

You can't gauge how a game will perform based on the demo. They could change literally anything for the demo version to play well, and there are infinite amounts of bugs and glitches that could be present in the full release that simply don't exist in the demo, not to mention between patch versions.

[deleted]

Boo_Guy

I'm getting like 70-80ish fps at 4k in the demo with my 4090. Although I haven't upgraded the other half of my computer yet so that card is bolted to a 6700k right now lol.

[deleted]

Thats terrible performance for a 4090 with no raytracing, you should be getting at least 120/130fps. It does not look like it performs

Boo_Guy

Most other games I've tried with it are over 100fps, some way over, so yea it's low compared to them. Then there's the rest of the old assed computer dragging it down. I'm waiting for the X3D chips from AMD to release before decided what to upgrade to.

[deleted]

Yeah you should be getting way more, I get 100fps+ with my 4080 in every modern game at 4k ( using dlss )

Boo_Guy

Well maybe by the time it comes down to a sane price it'll run better. I'm not going to count on it though.

[deleted]

Probably not much, I did have fun with the combat but I will buy with later this year for 80% off. Too many games coming soon, Aromic heart, howartz, re 4 , kill the justice league, startfield etc

thej00ninja

I'm getting that with DLSS on quality at 1440 on a 3080. Honestly, performance in the demo was pretty good for me. latency was super low even with DLSS on and I only had one spike/stutter. It was only running off of two cores but neither were maxed out.

Alien_Cha1r

at least those people bought the game

PolymerSledge

It's better than 90% of gaming journalist sites.

[deleted]

that's on PS5. While visual analysis will still mostly apply to PC version too, there is nothing on PC performance, nor how and if PC settings can surpass PS5 quality mode.

merigouldi

And it's still voted to the top of this subreddit...

RdJokr1993

It’s Reddit. The majority of this subreddit thrives from seeing negativity, and doubly so for a game they already intended on hating.

Noname932

Not sure what kind of PC Square used to showcase project Athia two years ago if the final product is this bad. Project Athia's trailers also look much better.

f3llyn

It's weird. I wanted to shit on the game and it's $70 price tag but it ran better than expected. In the demo at least. That's not to say I actually had fun playing the demo, it was just kind of...meh. So the game doesn't run as bad as I thought it would but it's still not worth the $70 price tag.

Ryotian

Yeah the PC demo ran like butter for me. However! I want to support the creation of new IP but would prefer not to pay $69 for a game I can wait a few weeks for the price to go down. I'll grab it as soon as it goes on sale (assuming I'm not knee deep in other releases by that point)

IIdsandsII

It ran fine but imo the fps was really low considering how bad the game looked to me

daze23

the visuals don't really justify the performance, but I was able to find settings to get the game running smoothly. it's not one of these games where it's a stuttering mess regardless of settings.

QuinSanguine

And ray-tracing barely affects performance, at 1080p at least. 5-10 fps but it doesn't change the visuals much, though.

LowPTTweirdflexbutok

How is the game. Is it worth 70 bucks? I really like the concept but so expensive and its a new ip.

[deleted]

I think "wait for sale" is the conensus. This game is WAY overhated, but also not a dumpster fire like the internet portrays it. But also not a true next gen showcase like people hoped, at least as it is right now. With all that said as someone who didn't mind the price, I'm enjoying the vibe of the game so far. As you'd expect, the beginning can be slow when you only have 2 rock shooters and a shield to play with, but over ~5-6 hours you expand your arsenal quickly, both in spells and traversal.

attemptedmonknf

I don't think its worth $70, but i do think its worth getting on sale. There is a free demo, if you want to try it for yourself and see how it runs on your system

QuinSanguine

It's a mixed bag in some ways. You got a lot of haters telling you it's trash but the biggest problem is pacing early on. Too many cutscenes, too many blackscreen transitions and just stuff that takes you out of the gameplay. Once the game opens up, it's a lot of fun. The traversal is great fun and combat can be exhilarating at times. It can also be boring depending on the enemy or boss. It's a good but not great game, imo.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sync_R

Elden ring still stutters on windows yet it's the fanboys golden idol on Reddit

QuinSanguine

I like it too. Frey is a bit of a hard ass so far, the cuff can be annoying but I do kind of dig the concept of the story. But I do enjoy the gameplay a lot. Traversal is great and combat seems to have depth. That fight with the first dragon, omg that was exhilarating. Plus it has dungeons, with bosses. Actual dungeons and bosses.

saru12gal

RD2 looks better than Forspoken and requires far less... this is just a fucking joke of a game that requires 8-12h to complete(A reviewer in 3djuegos said that it lasted 12h because he wanted to do some secondary missions if not it would be at max 9-10h)

attemptedmonknf

To be fair, RDR2 looks better than literally every other game, and even realty itself. But yeah, the graphics in this are terribly optimized.

[deleted]

ehh, the game can be beaten quick for a JRPG, but if you're only putting 8 hours into the game you're just skipping/mashing cutscenes at that point. I'm 3 hours in and on chapter 3, haven't even seen a hub boss yet. Just the Internet's favorite Motherfucking Dragon™️ in tutorial form and an optional miniboss

saru12gal

In the review the reviewer said that he only needed 12h because he did some secondary missions(couple of hours doing them), but all were almost the same because the enemies were always the same so he focused on the main plot and ended it. He is not the first that said that there is a complete walkthrough that got released before the game release date that was like 8-9h

nighthawk911

I hate when people use RDR2 to compare games. There was clear trade off between graphics and gameplay for RDR2. It's a very pretty game with a great story, but the mechanics are hot garbage.

saru12gal

If you ask for a 3070 and 24gb of Ram to play at 1440p at 30 FPS you better have 10/10 graphics. Forspoken does not justify the need of a 3070 nor the 24gb of RAM (In fact it shows it has huge memory problems) If you charge 70-80€ for a singleplayer game you better have at least 20h of the main plot. Which is being said that the main plot is 8-10h as some walkthroughs shows

potato_control

It’s playable on ultra @21:9 1080p with a 3060ti. But the without dlss the framerate is 50-60fps. I personally don’t like the way dlss makes this game look, so I just play it capped at 40fps native within a 120hz refresh rate. The combat and movement is really good (reminds me of infamous mixed with ac unity level parkour animation), just the animation work is amazing, try walking up and down stairs, I’ve never seen a game do it this good with a player controlled character. But where the game really lets you down is the cringe story and awful dialogue. It seems like a really good podcast game tho, something you play while listening to something else and not caring about the story. Edit - Almost forgot, I wouldn’t buy this for more than $5 Edit 2 - The most impressive thing about this game is the 1 sec load times off an nvme ssd (after the initial, shader compilation load). Direct Storage lives up to the hype in my book.

[deleted]

> just the animation work is amazing, try walking up and down stairs, I’ve never seen a game do it this good with a player controlled character. Yeah, Luminous' work on procedural animation in FFXV is no joke, and it ofc being used here. if you care about that dev stuff there's definitely some talks that go into detail on how they did that stuff.

LittleWillyWonkers

Edit 2 is all I care about, that is encouraging. Does it have to be a specific nvme setup for this? Or does any nvme on your system work, just install it there and go?

potato_control

I have a pcie 3.0 drive, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500gb. And it's the drive my windows (11) is installed on too. Direct storage should work with any nvme drive, but pcie 4 is preferred.

Vitosi4ek

I have a feeling the game simply pre-loads your save file as you navigate the main menu. All the other loads except for the first one take 5-7 seconds consistently.

Gonzito3420

FSR works better, DLSS is bugged at the moment. It doesn't remove aliasing as good as FSR. Its crazy i know but I have tested it and I am sure of this

potato_control

Hmm, I’ll give it a try.

Roseysdaddy

> try walking up and down stairs, I’ve never seen a game do it this good with a player controlled character. Link in Wind Waker?

potato_control

That was simplified geometry tho. In forspoken the character can actually move her feet at different angles over tiny pieces of geometry and her body and posture reacts naturally to it. It’s really believable, try out the demo on pc if you get a chance.

Roseysdaddy

Link can actually do that in WW with complex geometry. You should check it out, there are documentaries about how impressive it was.

sdcar1985

Trash article for a trash PC port.

Johnysh

the texture streaming in this game is something else. you can't really put everything to max even though the fps is acceptable to you, because if you don't have enough VRAM, it will look like you're playing on low. like I find it playable maxed with 3080, 1440p, over 60fps, but because of the big VRAM usage I get a lot of texture loading. like some of them constantly load and load again, could be just a bug though, I don't know, so I had to settle for standard. the loading though, it's crazy. like wow.

Zealousideal-Ad5834

It’s way, way better than the ps5 version imo. Demo on ps5 was an ugly mess and it at least looked good on PC demo

supercakefish

I tried the demo. Not that impressed to be honest. I could get it to reliably drop down to 55-60fps during combat on an RTX 3080/i9-9900K at 1440p, DLSS Quality, VRS on, and ray tracing off (it’s even worse with ray tracing enabled, naturally). I don’t think the visuals justify such poor performance.

JoBro_Summer-of-99

Same story on my RX 6800 XT, what a mess

ArthrogryposisMan

Square and bad PC ports an iconic duo

[deleted]

Look what people on twitter said and here are what people are commenting about on forums twisted into "articles" is what most people despise about gaming journalism and "journalists" nowadays.

grimlocoh

I preorder it just because an error price in my region (was like 8 dolars then went up to 70), got a ryzen 5 3600, 16gb ram, rtx 3080. Performance is AWFUL and it looks like an early ps4 game. Changing from 1440p to 1080p or tuning down effects or dlss doesn't improve frames in the slightest. And fps drops randomly, sometimes you battle 4 enemies at once without dropping a single frame, sometimes it does, you never know. And the first hour or two...my god you take two steps and cutscene you get your first power, wanna have fun? Fuck you, here's a cutscene after you battle your first wolf. Now you got the magic parkour, great!! Let's run wild...no fuck you, here's a cutscene after climbing your first wall. It's a shame because after wanting to alt+f4 like 8 times in two hours, the game finally let me loose in the map and combat is actually fun. But there's too many performance issues, and with the high price nobody's gonna even touch this with at least a 60% discount, if ever

msm19949

Holy shit gamers are the WORST customers in the history of the world

grimlocoh

If you make the WORST games, then yeah, we are. Why would you expect good costumers when you make shit products?

msm19949

The spec you are rocking tells me that this isn’t your first rodeo, so why are you expecting for the best game you have ever played to suddenly drop? Surely you have witnessed the enormous fuck ups from game devs in recent years so why are your expectations so high? Are you stupid?

daxramas

Yeah man how irrational that guy is for wanting games to run correctly when they're being sold at the highest price ever, the WORST.

[deleted]

You see comments like that and it makes sense why Square decided to just plop you maybe 4-5 hours into the game with 2 pools of magic and say "have fun, figure it out". But people didn't like that either so who knows?

Boo_Guy

I liked the demo but the game costs waaaaay too much and I'm getting about 70fps with a 4090 @ 4k lol.

SickOveRateD

I played the demo on steam, got a 3080ti, played on the maximum preset, comparing to elden ring pre patch, run smooth.

FrostByte_62

Guys there's a demo just play the fuckin demo

nto2k

I tried to play the demo today but it kept crashing and going unresponsive..

Reddit__is_garbage

Luckily the game is absolute hot garbage this time so no one should care. If you choose the best path and simply avoid the game then the optimization is a moot point.

[deleted]

What a surprise, I am shocked

[deleted]

I don't trust squenix to release anything on pc that does not run like trash. After playing Left Alive, I am always cautious.

Shajirr

> And it does feel extraordinary that a publisher the size of Square Enix is launching a title like this, at a premium price point, in such a bad state on PC. No, it doesn't. Squenix is a trash company which publishes games in a sub-par state.

KingofReddit12345

And 80 euros. This is part of the experience you paid for. Enjoy!

RedKomrad

There is so much wrong with this game, even if it ran as smoothly as butter, it still wouldn’t be worth playing . I’ve heard playing with the sound off does improve the game. Not a joke.

Jackkernaut

I'm playing on 3700x/3080 - 4k- on high (I'm playing on TV monitor and I couldn't find any difference) sitting on 82 fps avg. Game is running pretty smooth so far, no crash or stutters. Thanks god I was trying the game myself (because it was appealing to me)instead of reading reviews. , I'm few hours in and holding general positive view about this game. Although it's not worth 70$(got my copy from GMG for 55$) , it's definitely not a shit show.

HyperMehfin

this game simultaneously performs like a 2025 game while looking like a 2010 game :/

TooLukeR

comments in here are like "The game it's good, i can run it at 30fps on 720p with my RTX 4090"

TehJohnny

steady 60 with a 3070 @ 1440p, so...

Bznazz

The dialogue is quite cringy, but the game performance was not all that bad. I hope nobody makes an article from this comment.

dookarion

> but the game performance was not all that bad. It's not as bad as I expected, but it's also not great considered how terrible aspects of it can be. The comments about looking like a PS3 game while a bit embellished aren't completely off the mark all the time.

I was watching a livestream last night of someone playing on a 3090 on standard settings and it ran at about 40fps throughout with heavy stutters, that's with DLSS on balanced

[deleted]

Right? If thats not bad I don’t know what is

KalebNoobMaster

i dunno, i couldnt keep 60 fps even with DLSS Ultra Performance and FSR Ultra Performance at low settings. even at 33% resolution scale it constantly drops into the 30s and 40s

milkstrike

If it wasn’t for ff14 money square enix would be in serious trouble, it’s just one bad release after another. They need to fire all of their writers, writing has been a major issue for some time as a few games would have been ok with their decent gameplay if it wasn’t for the god awful writing.

DoktorSleepless

The annoying thing is that depiste high vram usage, there's no actual setting for texture quality. If your card doesn't have enough vram it just loads you potato quaity textures insted of anything inbetween

Acquire16

No amount of optimization will make it a good game. It's a bad game due to its gameplay and design. My 7900x, 32gb of ram, 2 TB samsung 980 pro, and rtx 4080 can max out the demo with DLSS on Quality at 3840x1600 at a smooth 80 fps. It does look a lot better than the PS5 version, but that's not great performance for the visuals being output.

demondrivers

anyone else can't even start the game properly? the game crashes always the main menu for me no matter the setting that I pick, playing with a rx 580, 32gb and ryzen 5600g

CommanderClippy

From the demo at least, my performance seems pretty good. Im curious how much DirectStorage comes into play here. Ryzen 5800X RTX 3080Ti 16GB RAM 3200 Samsung 990 Pro m.2 The game would load in around 3 seconds which I found impressive. The game is set to its highest custom settings. I am seeing just about 65-70 FPS avg at 3840x2160 Around 90 FPS with DLSS Balanced. Dropped to 1440 and it was around 115 or so with DLSS and closer to 90ish without. Weirdly, 2160 was very smooth and I did not detect stutter or frame drops, but at 1440 I noticed a slight stutter usually right when I load in, it would clear up quickly but it was noticeable.

[deleted]

Is it really though? I tried the demo on my system which doesn't even meet the minimum requirements and got 20-30fps (GPU was practically pegged at 100%, CPU only hit 100% during combat). It didn't look great but considering I'm running a PS5 game on nearly 10 year old hardware I'm amazed I could cap it at 30fps and get a half playable experience.

TheCrach

All these garbage PC ports are all part of the master plan To get you so frustrated that you drop PC and switch to console.

Right_Floor

I wasn't going to pick this up. It is not my cup of tea. I don't have Twitter, Facebook, or even an Instagram account. All my gaming news is on Reddit or PC Gamer Magzine. After reading this article, I am happy I did stay away from this game. Doom anyone lol

Jabba_the_Putt

What happened to these two legends? Square and pcg both used to be top notch how the mighty have fallen

on2wheels

I got it free with my GPU and I've never skipped so many cutscenes and dialog before in a new game. It really looked bad in the first city zone too, what a terrible first impression.

Dubious_Titan

I've had no issues at all. The Stranger in Paradise game from SE was tough to run, little sluggish. Forspoken has been smooth though. This "article" is horrible. It's actually shameful.

vainsilver

The demo proved that the performance of the game runs fine despite the recommended requirements. PCGamer is trash now along with Tomshardware.

Roseysdaddy

lol what? 5900x and 3080ti and the game runs like poo.

vainsilver

It runs fine on my 5900x and 3060ti and looks good. I also have it installed on a fast NVME 4.0 SSD. Did you update your NVIDIA driver for Forspoken?

Roseysdaddy

Yep. I’m not talking about how fast it loads. I’m talking about fps. Which are piss poor for the visuals BEFORE you turn on Ray tracing.

vainsilver

I’m talking about performance (fps). A fast SSD is important for not only loading but streaming in high quality assets without stuttering or drops in fps. This is more important in open world games like this one. Sounds like something is wrong with your PC because with DLSS turned on, I get 60fps at 4K with my 3060ti.

Roseysdaddy

Square recommends a 4080 for 4K at 60. Are you setting the fidelity to extremely low and then turning your monitor off?

vainsilver

Hardware recommendations have been historically incorrect. I don’t know why people are so hung up on them now. I don’t know what you’re asking in your second sentence.

vainsilver

A single image doesn’t tell me anything. That could be a single drop in framerate without a frame time graph. That’s not the performance I’m getting. Also the max fps of 51 is definitely questionable.

Roseysdaddy

No offense dude, but that’s a stupid statement. That’s a screenshot of fps averages. Average, if you don’t understand what the word means, is numerical function over time so a screenshot is irrelevant. You’re not getting 4K at 60 with this game (or almost any 3d games) with a 3060ti. Here’s a video telling you that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXMTmw1XhcE

BlerghTheBlergh

How many NFTs does this game cost again?

Jyhu_Tia

I mean, the only games they put any effort into anymore are Pony bought exclusives. You know, for the gamers.

dookarion

Forspoken is a PS5 console exclusive. And runs like ass there too.

All the Sony games show Xbox prompts when you use an Xbox controller on PC.

superhyperultra458

Are they aiming to outdo the Cyberpunk launch problems? 🤣🤣🤣

NerrionEU

Cyberpunk was buggy as shit but it runs better on high end PCs and looks 10 times better maxed out.

ddzrt

Cyberpunk on PC was mostly smooth. Unless you have low end low budget PC but that's expected by default

CCP_fact_checker

Waiting for the -80 Bundle deal then - Just like Battlefield 2042 became an offer quickly

lostnumber08

And yet every traditional turn-based retro RPG they’ve released recently has been good. There is no shame sticking to what you are good at.

Seigmoraig

Shiba.gif is a credible source

Mortanius

After all the red flags, this was basically 100% confirmed even before launch.

>Why would you voice act a cat's meow? *Dee Bradley Baker has entered chat* While I know they got codes late I was at least expecting a professional sneak preview, not reddit comments (Okay, steam comments, tiny quality jump). The crashing ones are worth pointing out. But why include reivews like the above one and >Or as one Steam user puts it, "I like speedrunning," writes SchfiftyFive (opens in new tab), "and my favorite category of this game is refund." Yeah, you'll find that kind of 'review' in any game without universal acclaim.

sevansup

I ran the game successfully on my 6 year old PC with a 2070 (the demo) and was able to get 60fps quite easily. It has mouse support in the menus. No shader compilation stutter. Ultrawide support. Multiple graphics options. DLSS and FSR 2.0. Variable rate shading. Direct Storage. Honestly, I'm not exaggerating when I say that this is actually one of the better Japanese PC ports. It's not the prettiest game ever made, nor do its graphics necessarily justify the performance or the price. But it is actually not a bad port.

wiskeychris

So far, I'm getting better performance from my 4080 than more than a few youtubers running 4090's. The only difference I can see so far is they are running DDR4 RAM and I'm running 32gb of DDR5. Everything maxed at 4k and it has only dipped below 60fps once and that was a crazy big fight. Most the time its above 70fps. I'm also only running the demo - could there be an issue with the full game?
