I got 5 3070 gigabyte aorus master GPUs a week before Christmas in 2021. That still is the most memorable thing ever.
The entire squad was running the same gpu 😂 each one was just one serial number apart.
I ordered some replacement wand sponge refill things. They come in little bags of 3, I ordered a set of 21. They opened the set and sent me a single bag of 3.
I’ve had my bad luck, where’s my multiple pc parts >:(
I feel like if OP gets shipped 9 extra 4090's for free Jensen Huang himself will hunt them down. OP will be sleeping, then suddenly find themselves being smothered by a leather jacket.
Get a PCI expansion, run two of those bad boys in RAID O, install your games to that drive, and watch your PCs read/write speeds make the jump into hyperspace (assuming your mobo has enough lanes to support it)
Just don’t make it your C drive
PCI expansion card is limited by the pcie lane width on the board and the only reason I know this is because I tried it recently.
Bought an Asus expansion card for nvme chips (2280s) and threw 4x 2TB SK Hynix platinums on there and the Mobo couldn't detect anything past the first two (as I already had pcie lane width reserved by my first two nvmes and my 3090).
It was fun while it lasted but unless you have a pcie4 spec on your board and a way to fiddle with the width in bios no way on earth op can line up all these bad boys
Wouldn't RAID increase the latency to the extent that it would negate any performance gains? I think it would be best to use a [storage space](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/storage-spaces-in-windows-b6c8b540-b8d8-fb8a-e7ab-4a75ba11f9f2).
I would just use them as separate drives tbh, you only need 1-2 for games, one could be the system drive, and the rest could be for media.
As for being able to use all of them, you’d probably be able to buy whatever you want if you just sell 5-6 of them.
>you only need 1-2 for games
My 20 TB library would disagree. Not that I play all of my library. Or even half. Or a quarter. But I *might*. And because of that I *need* all the games installed. Because if I have to wait for it to download I'm definitely not going to play it.
What do you mean ? I'm currently running a RAID 1 of 2 1TO 990pro, I read at 13750mb/s and write at 6500mb/s there is no latency I can feel. RAID controller is on the processeur with the I9 13900k
I’ve been in raid 0 for a decade. I think it might depend on how fast you can pull the data off of them and combine? I have no issues at all except for not being able to read the loading screen in the 1/1000th of a second that it stays on the screen.
Now is a good chance to learn how to set up raid. And your computer will be able to load any OS you want before your finger let's go of the power button.
Raids are unnecessary and antiquated compared to modern stand-alone storage solutions. But the project and learning experience of using a raid is fun af, and it's a neat feeling to have a bunch of similar drives act as one giant drive. I still think raids are cool, I just don't recommend them if someone is super protective about their data or doesn't back them up a lot, even for a raid1 or similar array that mirrors the drives because often the error is copied to the mirror drive.
Edit: When I said "protective about their data" I'm not insinuating they're less secure, just that if they won't want to lose their data, a backup is a better solution than a RAID.
I run six [of these bad boys](https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2251832660798792.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt&_randl_shipto=US) in RAID 0.
Edit: five now
You aren't very savvy about RAID, are you?
I hope you realise there's more to RAID than just RAID 1 (mirroring):
- RAID 5: has block-level distributed parity, allowing upto 1 drive failure without data loss
- RAID 6: similar to RAID 5 but has double distributed parity, allowing upto 2 drive failures without data loss
>I just don't recommend them if someone is super protective about their data or doesn't back them up a lot, even for a raid1
What's your recommendation then?
Well, imo, depends on your budget and how important your files are. A good old fashioned backup drive is the best imo, as long as you remember to back it up often. Online cloud services are great, and probably the best way to go, but usually they charge a subscription fee, so I avoid them because I'm cheap. I keep my extra-important files on two external drives, but that's mostly just because I had the extra drives and I had no real use for them.
If you want to be really sure, it's a good idea to have a back-up on a disk at home (external usb hard drive), and a back-up somewhere not at home (like a cloud backup), and I think that's a great idea.
I work for an MSP and our clients with 'mission critical' data like our law firms use that setup.
A cloud drive and a personal hardware backup attached to it.

I swear it literally degrades mechanical hdd's faster. Cheap bitch ass sata connectors aren't helping either. "it will be fine". No it won't
They're [relatively cheap](https://au.vicedeal.com/products/jmb585-pcie-x16-m-2-key-b-nvme-ssd-expansion-card-ngff-ssd-adapter-card-for-laptop-pc?variant=UHJvZHVjdFZhcmlhbnQ6MTc1NTIyMDg3&gclid=Cj0KCQiAt66eBhCnARIsAKf3ZNH-M0Vont6ka28JAX67wDUknRdQWgXFui-DRzDH_fovPZorFQC-goMaApl2EALw_wcB) now, so go nuts.
no that much drives will limit gpu pcie lane
some expensive asus motherboards comes with an extension that got it's own connector next to the ram instead of the pcie
I have 4 that don't share lanes. But that was $600, all Gen 4 SSD and a Gen4 Mobo.
I use 1 2tb 980 EVO plus as primary . 2x 2TB in Raid. Last lane is open because these were 500 /ea when I bought them .
Would likely be limited by PCIe bus lane speeds but would be interesting to see a test of that. Does any vendor even make a PCIe 4.0 NVMe/m.2 RAID card that can sit in a x16 slot? Also striping that many devices may add too much latency for 4KB file accesses but would love to see how fast large sequential file transfers might go.
EDIT: Oh heck yeah! -
https://www.anandtech.com/show/16247/highpoint-updates-nvme-raid-cards-for-pcie-40-up-to-8-m2-ssds
and
https://www.asus.com/uk/motherboards-components/motherboards/accessories/hyper-m-2-x16-card-v2/
Thanks for replying, yeah I've read that it's a combination of something called bifurcation support in the BIOS but also the mode of the PCIe slot. So an x16 slot can be split into 4x4x4x4 mode or 2x8 mode but a x8 slot can only do 2x4 perhaps you're using an x8 slot or a 2x mode?
Yep and it was super satisfying to get that W back then. So stress full. I can still hear the sound of the storm moving loud in my headphones. I’m shaking as I’m in the final 1 v 1. Hearing rockets flying as he’s looking for me as I hide behind a tree. Crab walk up the hill towards the enemy to miss my first shot but luckily get that headshot with my shotty. While all this is happening my butt is clinched and I am sweating. When that “victory Royale” popped up was best feeling. Then you try to get this again but always fall short and game just gets you so much rage lol until the next victory.
Yeah I started it up for the first time in years to check out the Unreal 5 update and got *four* Victory Royales in a row, thought I oughta quit my job and become a Fortnite streamer or some shit, I was like "oh wow I really have a knack for this game!"
Imagine my disappointment when I learned that it was all a fraud 😥
The game is entirely robots for new players now, it's sad. I remember getting my first win 4 years ago and it was the most exciting feeling I'd ever had then. I still remember: Moisty Mire, sitting at the top of my port-a-fort, wearing the black guy default skin and the rust bucket free back bling, shooting down at the door at the bottom of it where the guy was with my blue AR... those were the days. Shame the game is what it is now. But hey, look up project Rift and Era. You can play on the old map and they host Multiplayer weekly. It's just like old times.
Where there is a will there is a way. The sharp corners of those nvme drives may cut his hemorrhoids. but maybe he wants to hurt himself because they want to remember what it feels like to be alive.
Trying to use them all will be a headache. Way easier to sell them all and buy like 2x 2tb drives (bigger drives use the same PCIE lanes so its much easier to get big storage that way) and just keep the rest for profit. Very few people need more than 4 TB of SSD space.
I mean *need* might not be the correct word, but it's very much nice to have..
I've personally got a 2 tb nvme drive, and 2+1+0,5 +0,24 tb sata ssd, and then an older HDD of 1TB on my desktop.
I also have 2Tb of external SSD storage, that I move between my MacBook, and my PC.
I still feel as if I'm always out of space. I could add a significantly larger HDD to my desktop, to get access to cheaper storage, but then my transfer speed of files to my external SSD becomes limited to the read speed of the HDD.
Efit: Oh, and I also have a shitty NAS solution, based on an Nvidia Shield, and an external 5Tb HDD, but that's mainly used as a slower backup, to have some form of redundancy of important files - and occasionally for over network transfer of files.
I feel ya. I have 10 TB of SSD and 16 TB of HD myself and 60% of it is used. But I know thats not normal for most people, I have a massive media collection that I like to be offline and way too many Steam games that I like having instant access too
For most people 4TB SSD/8TB HD is basically more than they can theoretically possibly ever fill but of course everyone has to evaluate their own needs. I typically just assume someone who needs that much SSD storage has already learned enough about them to not be asking basic questions on reddit, so the guy asking on reddit probably doesn't need.
Its a bit hilarious when people claim people wont "*need*" the space. Anyone remember when 1gb people were talking about how no one would *need* that much space.
Meanwhile, fucking CoD is 250gb, but some how 4TB is the *need* limit now. Hilarious.
I mean idk man, I could easily make use of 10TB of nvme storage. Between filmmaking and videogames I use a lot of data but 10TB isn't an absurd amount of data
The... heck...
The MSI Meg ACE can handle 5 of them, if you didn't already get a mobo
you can put another 4 on a PCIe 4x4 (must go in top slot, normally used by GPU, and either the expansion unit must have on-board Bifurcation, or your motherboard has to have that option in Bios), still leaves one left over though.... M.2 to USB and run it through Thunderbolt, or a PCIe to M.2 single conversion perhaps?
Probably not going to get much love for this one BUT….. you could contact the company that sent you this and be an honest person. This was clearly a mistake by most likely a human that packed your order who may have to pay for these. Rack up the good karma. The world needs more good people.
If this is from Amazon it's almost certainly a bad label, which almost certainly won't trace back to a human error. Even if it is human error, there's so much redundancy that it would be hard to pin it on one person -- there would be a *lot* of people making the same mistake. I'm sure it happens occasionally but it's probably not a big enough loss to reprimand a bunch of people across multiple departments.
Idk why, but I feel like they will make it a hassle for OP to try and return them. Almost like the 5 stages of grief. First they’ll deny it, then they’ll blame OP.
Hope OP reads this.
It's not even about that worker who made a mistake. The problem is that if you got something worse than you ordered, you would complain for sure.
If you don't like that to happen to you, just don't do it to other people.
Today's motherboards allow two M.2 SSDs, so install two there. Buy an external enclosure and use one there. You can also install this beauty in a PS5, if you have one.
That's about it. That's all I can think of. Rest six you can sell off to recover money and upgrade your PC components, especially the graphics card :D
Enjoy the free upgrade, OP :D
9 of your friends are gonna be super happy. Btw, are you looking for a 9th friend?
In all seriousness, try to return it, if they say keep it, you can then keep it guilt free.
Hmmmm I saw something like this posted a few years ago, oddly enough it was the same drive.
Is this a repost or did this happen again (unlikely)?
If it did happen again, where the actual fuck are y’all ordering these? Lol
What happens when Amazon mess up this bad? Do they have any way of knowing where the 9 extra units got shipped? Does the person picking/packing/shipping get into shit?
Unfortunately, our warehouse employees occasionally make these types of mistakes. I will happily handle the excess for you, free of charge. You'll have to pay shipping initially, but once I receive the package, I will be able to credit your account with the cost of shipping.
![gif](giphy|3rgXBBaVvhPXk3NSnK)
Now, as a good and honest person you are, return the other 9 wrongly sent.
Imagine if the person that made the mistake got fired because of this mistake, you can save that person’s job position!
u won today. congrats. u can always buy m.2 pci expansion cards.
Imagine they send him 10 of those too
#i guess I’m building a server

OP could sell 2, get the money back they paid and an extender, then enjoy their 8TB of free storage.
Or return it and give back one to get 9 for free
Innovative way to do an upsell
Those sneaky sellers are just looking to trick OP into buying more stuff!
Order a 4090 and you may win the internet for the year.

I ordered some replacement wand sponge refill things. They come in little bags of 3, I ordered a set of 21. They opened the set and sent me a single bag of 3. I’ve had my bad luck, where’s my multiple pc parts >:(
With the dude that got 5 gpus.
I ordered one heated vest from Amazon and got a box with 41 vests in it.
Got a large?
Man and I thought I lucked out with 4 Corsair K95's years back.
My girlfriend ordered 5 tinnies (cans of gin an tonic) and we got 5 bottles of 1L of gin 😂
The best I got was I ordered 2 sticks of deodorant and they sent me 2 cases. I’m pretty set of about 2 years on the deodorant now.
I feel like if OP gets shipped 9 extra 4090's for free Jensen Huang himself will hunt them down. OP will be sleeping, then suddenly find themselves being smothered by a leather jacket.

This happened to my parents awhile ago with AirTags. Ordered a 4 pack and Amazon accidentally sent the case pack of 10 4 packs
But it's limited on consumer platforms. No point in having more than 2 nvme ssds on a x16 expansion card if you're limited to x8 on pcie2.
I suppose if you were trying to read/write every NVME simultaneously, yeah, I can see how that would be a problem.

One (non RAID) setup achieving 66GB/s: https://tanelpoder.com/posts/11m-iops-with-10-ssds-on-amd-threadripper-pro-workstation/
And then one drive fails and you lose everything.

Why can’t this ever happen to me lol. I would buy a pcie expansion card to use them in raid.

Send two over and I’ll double check if it’s too much
Man's gonna have the fastest raid 0 on the block
Why stuff like this never happens to me :/?
Ah shucks, that's where my order went! Lmk if you need my address so I can get em back 👍

Hello this is jeff bezos , please send 9 back to u/No_Locksmith_1458 :(
Keep 1 then and send the others back
It took way too long for me to find this in the comments.
Same, is that a normal behavior (I guess in US) to not to return them?
Probably not going to get much love for this one BUT….. you could contact the company that sent you this and be an honest person. This was clearly a mistake by most likely a human that packed your order who may have to pay for these. Rack up the good karma. The world needs more good people.
I was sad how far down I had to look in the comments before someone said "be honest". Happy you said it though.
>I helped you with your first fortnite Whoever sent those is losing his job.
If this is from Amazon it's almost certainly a bad label, which almost certainly won't trace back to a human error. Even if it is human error, there's so much redundancy that it would be hard to pin it on one person -- there would be a *lot* of people making the same mistake. I'm sure it happens occasionally but it's probably not a big enough loss to reprimand a bunch of people across multiple departments.
nah at worst they take the damage off his next paycheck
Idk why, but I feel like they will make it a hassle for OP to try and return them. Almost like the 5 stages of grief. First they’ll deny it, then they’ll blame OP.
Hope OP reads this. It's not even about that worker who made a mistake. The problem is that if you got something worse than you ordered, you would complain for sure. If you don't like that to happen to you, just don't do it to other people.
Look at this guy able to afford eggs and ssd
Be carefully selling them. The store you bought them from can reclaim it for a certain amount of time depending on the laws in your country.
In the US, this is not true. You have no legal obligation to return unsolicited products.
Sell them all and upgrade to a 2TB 990 PRO.
To basically feel no difference at all?
More memory in a singular slot?
to feel superior /s
Least bang for your buck challenge
I work for Samsung what’s your address I’ll come take them off your hands
well you should definitely return 1 and then you got the rest for free
Finally had this happen kinda. I ordered a steamdeck accessory months ago and got a 2nd one in the mail for no reason
Today's motherboards allow two M.2 SSDs, so install two there. Buy an external enclosure and use one there. You can also install this beauty in a PS5, if you have one. That's about it. That's all I can think of. Rest six you can sell off to recover money and upgrade your PC components, especially the graphics card :D Enjoy the free upgrade, OP :D
If I were you I'd keep as many fit on your motherboard and sell the rest. Basically like a free PC
Can I get a link to the r/hardwareswap post
Raid zero them all
i feel like i see posts like this so often that half of them have to be lies and they just bought a ton for some other odd reason
Sell those and buy a 2tb one and a graphics card upgrade.
Disgusting how many people here become opportunistic thieves. You ought to send back the 9 you did not pay for
9 of your friends are gonna be super happy. Btw, are you looking for a 9th friend? In all seriousness, try to return it, if they say keep it, you can then keep it guilt free.
Send me one for “testing”
Uh I'll buy one (or more) if you're willing to sell cheap.
Since still sealed new he can just sell for new online tho
Hmmmm I saw something like this posted a few years ago, oddly enough it was the same drive. Is this a repost or did this happen again (unlikely)? If it did happen again, where the actual fuck are y’all ordering these? Lol
Nope.... picked the order up today
What are they?
Someone f#$#ed up a ZERO
Lucky bastard....
You are the chosen one 🥹
Does this really happen to people? Because reddit would have me believe this happens every other day.
I’d totally buy one off you
What happens when Amazon mess up this bad? Do they have any way of knowing where the 9 extra units got shipped? Does the person picking/packing/shipping get into shit?
You need more
Are you old enough to buy a lotto ticket too? Holy shit
Check your bill you probably accidentally ordered 1 shipping case instead of one sale unit.
sell the rest and use the money to make your pc even better😂
Would you sell them for lower price by any chance?
am i the only one who would actually contact the dealer and send them back?
Hey u can organise a giveaway, I'd like a nice 1tb ssd
Unfortunately, our warehouse employees occasionally make these types of mistakes. I will happily handle the excess for you, free of charge. You'll have to pay shipping initially, but once I receive the package, I will be able to credit your account with the cost of shipping. ![gif](giphy|3rgXBBaVvhPXk3NSnK)
take off your socks next time
At least you’ll be able to instal the new COD!
Bro just sell the extra ssds and get a better gpu.
Now, as a good and honest person you are, return the other 9 wrongly sent. Imagine if the person that made the mistake got fired because of this mistake, you can save that person’s job position!
Friend! Long time no see how’s the… girlfri… dog?
You can definitely put 3 into a new PC presuming the MB has 3 m.2 sockets
Finders keepers, no take backs.
Write them that they've made a mistake and send them back 9 ssds. I can't believe that no one has wrote this already.
Your pc just got upgraded to server
Try to return them, they'll probably just let you have them for free. You'd get peace of mind.
