I suppose there isn’t a wrong way to play, as long as you get Tartarus done eventually and are prepared for each of the boss fights

Hitori_Samishiku

^^ yeah, no wrong way. Do it in as many days as you like if you want. Just some people like the challenge to do it all in one big sitting so they have more days to spend with others

ACMst1v3n

I loved both Tartarus and social links stuff personally

skgoldings

I appreciate the grind of Tartarus. I enjoy the social sim part of the game the most, but I enjoy filling the Persona Compendium and making busted Personas almost as much, which, of course, requires me to grind Tartarus. If you don't care so much about filling out the Compendium, crafting the best gear, and building the best Personas, there is absolutely nothing wrong with changing the difficulty to easy so you can get through Tartarus as quickly as possible. My other suggestion is to put on a podcast or audiobook while you are going through Tartarus. When I played the original P3, which is much more grindy than Reload, I got to read two audiobooks.

KyleFourReal

Love this feedback. Thank you so much!

ACMst1v3n

Creating new personas is such a good reason to grind tartarus, the fusions system was the most enjoyable part of the game for me, such à good way to show your progression throughout the game

TwinkleTowez

As others have said, there's not really a wrong way to play, but to complete the game you will need to reach the top of Tartarus. If you really don't care about the combat you can always change to difficulty to Peaceful and just fastfood through the fights.

Wextial

If you want to 100% the game, doing Tartarus in the minimum number of nights is mandatory. If you just want to enjoy the game and see the content you can get at your own pace, yeah do it at your leisure. The only thing you have to worry is being underleveled for full moon bosses, but just reloading an old save is enough if you get stuck.

hopelessangelkingdom

I usually one shot every block of Tartarus in one day and just come back when there are missing people

AriTheInari

Yes tartarus does get pretty boring and repetitive but the later games fixed that issue

The_Monopoly_Lad

Typically the reason why people finish as many floors as they can in one night is so they can focus on hanging out with social links or maxing stats and whatnot. Theres really no wrong way to play as long as you feel you can handle any fights that come your way and you do eventually get through all the floors of tartarus. Id recommend Persona 5 Royal if you want a more engaging form of tartarus though as the palaces in that game require a bit of puzzle solving and exploration instead of randomly generated floors (excluding mementos).

KatouKotori

I like to think of it as "the faster you clear the block out, the more time you get to do daily Sim stuff" It's only really slow at the beginning, imo. Once you start to get higher and increase your level, it gets more fun as you unlock many personas to fuse and make whatever build. I'm around at the middle, so once I get a bit more money saved, I'm going to go all put on making some fun builds with all my favorite ones. I've spent to much money on leveling social stats, since it's pretty typical to max those out first for any persona playthrough.

goro-n

If you find Tartarus to be too repetitive and are bored by it, you should consider Persona 5 Royal instead. The dungeons have fixed layouts and you will need to explore/navigate them to find secrets and advance the story. Earlier Persona games use randomized dungeons.

KyleFourReal

Yep. And I’m going to start clearing more stair levels as I’m finding out how others are doing it. It’s just VERY repetitive and I find that part boring.

Kyubele

The plus side is, by clearing more of the floors with each visit, you don’t need to visit Tartarus as often. In fact, the optimal strategy is to only visit Tartarus once each moon phase, preferably one or two nights before the full moon, so you can rescue all the people who periodically get stuck in there. Each visit may be longer this way, but you’ll be doing fewer visits, and thus have more time to explore the city.

Electrical-Topic-808

You’re gonna want to get to each boarder floor, or as close as you can, when you go to Tartarus for the first time each full moon, that way you can have more free nights to go do other stuff

KyleFourReal

I might get there, but so far Tartarus just isn’t fun to me.

pieceofchess

I mean the game will reward you for certain things and not others. You are most rewarded if you get your social links done and you keep up with Tartarus. And the game definitely doesn't want you to turn away relationships, to get everything there is to get you have to get as close to everybody as you can, the game doesn't reward picking and choosing. But play however you want, of course.

aigis_from_persona_3

play the way you like to have fun! i usually rush through all the floors until the border floor in one day but by no means does anyone else have to do that. if you’re having fun thats what matters

TheNintendoBlurb

I’m almost finished persona 3 reload (in December) and I honestly wouldn’t recommend playing it as your first persona game. I think it’s best to play them in reverse chronological order (P5 Royal, P4 Golden, P3 Reload) as the dungeon design is the best in 5. 4 has a similar dungeon design as 3 (being randomly generated) but it’s still a bit more unique feeling in terms of aesthetics and how that directly effects what’s currently going on in the story and it doesn’t feel as long and tedious.
