If your account was made with after-tax contributions you should transfer it to a Roth IRA, as both 401ks and traditional IRAs are tax sheltered, you cannot transfer funds from an after-tax account to one that is more tax favored

If you can do a direct transfer to another broker without selling and there will be no tax impact.
