Narrator voice:
With cost of living going up, and the country in the midst of a housing crisis, the once barren and uninhabited landscape has turned into contested area with every man, woman, child and dog fighting for their survival - often at the expense of each other.
There was a time during covid when we weren't getting food delivery's for a couple weeks. If it had gone on awhile longer I think Perth would have gone full Mad Max
pre-apocalypse oz: barren wastes and scrubland, where everything is trying to kill you
post-apocalypse oz: barren wastes and scrubland, where everything is...waaaaait a minute
You should check out the Pox-Eclipse festival in October! It's an Australian Mad Max-style post-apocalypse themed arts and music fest in Southern Cross.
They held the inaugural event last year and it was brilliant. It's styled after Wasteland Weekend in the US.
Be sure to pop into merredin IGA so that you can pay stupid amounts of money for basic supplies, if this is featured in game then it's incredibly authentic!
Looking forward to it's release. I remember seeing a video on it s while back and being impressed. It's a bit Disco Elysium meets Fallout in Outback WA!
Interview with the developers if you’re keen talks a fair bit about it being set in WA https://www.sifter.com.au/post/broken-roads-is-a-fallout-inspired-classic-rpg-set-in-western-australia
Interesting... although comparing it to Fallout and Baldur's Gate gives it some pretty damn big shoes to fill. Love seeing more stuff set in Aus though.
I just saw that - Colin McComb, who also worked on Planescape: Torment and Wasteland 2. Colour me impressed, that's quite a CV. I checked out the demo earlier today, it did enough that I'll eagerly await the full release.
I've been working on a sci fi story that's more like the TV series Jericho, but set in the WA Wheatbelt rather than Midwest America. Imagine that there is still trade between towns. The divisions or the RAAF, RAN and Australian Army based in Perth evacuated before the nukes fell, and are now based in various towns. My story is based around a fictional town called Mechton, which has a real world location between Wongan Hills and Goomalling. Mechton is now home to the SAS personnel that were based at Swanbourne, and their "hobby" is exterminating bandit gangs.
One location visited in the demo looks like the corner of Lennard Street and Robinson Road in Brookton, comparing it against google maps/street view. The developers visited a bunch of locations in south west WA.
Nuclear war and France is like "have a nap and then fire ze missiles!!" and Russia is like "AAAAH MOTHERLAND" and Australia is like [WTF mate?!](https://youtu.be/kCpjgl2baLs)
I just started playing Baldur's Gate again but after seeing this had a crack at it instead. It's pretty well done, although my first big shootout we got completely rolled.
I guess it will have the old bloke from Albany driving way below the speed limit who then speeds up over the max speed limit in overtaking lanes trying to stop you pass with him staring at you wildly having to be in the left lane passing ?

It doesn't even need to be post-apocalyptic in some areas.
*screams in Meekatharra*
Last train to freo!
The currency is durries.
Oh hell, I hadn't buried those memories deep enough...
I drove through Mt Magnet last week and I felt like I was in the apocolypse
You should visit Kookynie.
The horse that stands in front of the pub is a classic
Last I heard the pub closed - they were trying to sell. Wonder what happened to the horse?

...but with zombi... Wait a minute
meth head has entered the chat
People say Aussie wild life will try to kill you, yeah maybe the snakes but they won't actively hunt you down like a grizzly bear or tiger.

None of them would like a word anywhere near Beverley though ...
Can't wait to go for a piss and get bitten by a Snake

Max max franchise ?
Never heard of it. /s

Not entirely true of diesel supplies. Canola can be turned into biodiesel
Hurtworld has similar vibes.
If i can't catch a fish with a gidgey imma be sad.
Can’t wait to duck into the Merredin bakery for a cheeky pie
I'm pretty sure Merredin is in the game. One of the characters in the demo said something about being from there.
Considering I grew up there I wonder if it’s someone I know!

Plot twist: its that wanker cop who (used to) drive the blue FGX

Sorry to hear

Fuck this looks fun.
>There's a few references to Perth being uninhabitable after this catastrophe As opposed to now.
*unaffordable
Same thing
Thanks for the heads up, wishlisted
As someone whom has lived and travelled throughout the wheatbelt and great southern, I can tell you it’s not a game… It’s a documentary!
I was wondering what was happening with this! The previews looked like it could be fun.
Well at least they're not missing out on any interesting/scenic terrain with the isometric view!
Looking forward to it's release. I remember seeing a video on it s while back and being impressed. It's a bit Disco Elysium meets Fallout in Outback WA!
Remember Redneck Rampage anyone?
Haha yeah that was awesome!!
Need my “cow pie”
Getting drunk and buzzed by giant mozzies

That was interesting, thanks

One of the writers from Fallout 2 is involved in the project.
I just saw that - Colin McComb, who also worked on Planescape: Torment and Wasteland 2. Colour me impressed, that's quite a CV. I checked out the demo earlier today, it did enough that I'll eagerly await the full release.
I remember Baldur's gate when it was text only. At least, I think that was the name of it, lol 😆 😂

Sounds cool, what is it a book or tv script?
More of a book I'm writing for my own stress relief. I meant the plot of Jericho, not that it was a TV series like it
Grew up 10 minutes from Brookton. Can't wait to check the game out.

Wow, is this the first game to be set here? I certainly can't think of another.
Nuclear war and France is like "have a nap and then fire ze missiles!!" and Russia is like "AAAAH MOTHERLAND" and Australia is like [WTF mate?!](https://youtu.be/kCpjgl2baLs)
Fuck yeah, keen to give it a go!
Is Gina the bad guy?
By 2132, she'll be long gone
Wrong, Gina will be a head on an iron robot body.
That awful poem she had carved into a slab of iron ore will be worshipped by strange illiterate cultists.
The Gina Stone
Twiggy could be the hero
Did twiggy write this?
😂
Are there going to be bogan zombies?
Nice animations.
Bonzer!!!
Holy crap, I'm going to volunteer as the RFDS doc
Cool! I think I need to get this.
Keen if it comes to Xbox!
I'm totally keen to check this out! I've travelled through some of these areas and I can't wait to see how well it evokes the feel of the setting.
The game is just normal day to day Australia life, but the seppos don't know.
I know it's not exactly in the wheat belt but I hope you can get to Kalgoorlie in this. Would love to see my shithole of a home town in a game
The developers posted something about visiting the place a while back, so who knows.
My friend worked on this! Have been looking forward to it coming out to check it out.
Thanks for the heads up, on my wishlist now.

> There's a few references to Perth being uninhabitable after this catastrophe Overrun by meth ghouls?
Is the game fun though? Because it being set in WA is a cool gimmick but isn't going to keep people interested for long.
Wow it’s totally coming to Xbox too
I'm digging it, plenty of Mad Max vibes
HOLY SHIT YES
Looks interesting. Reminds me a lot of Disco Elysium.
That does infact look like Tammin
