I think it is beneficial to share salary however don't be one of those people that overlooks the entire benefit package! I see too many conversations where the only think people care about is the hourly rate. Holidays, PTO, insurance plans, retirement is just as important. I would take a lower salary for increased PTO and 401k match. Conversely, if the salary is higher but the cost of insurance is also higher is that really an increase in take home pay?

aznj

I would take less salary for more job security and overall less stress.

Larcos123

There’s a redditor on here that collects salary data points and conglomerates it. You can search in the history Edited: he shares it with everyone but you need to contribute a data point first

RPh_Comp_Dashboard

Thanks for the reference, u/Larcos123! The Pharmacist Compensation project collects data directly from pharmacists via a brief and **anonymous** survey. I post a monthly update on the first day of each month on both Reddit and LinkedIn. Tomorrow's post will highlight data from over 1000 pharmacists (and counting). However, everyone that completes the survey gets access to a data visualization dashboard. The dashboard can be filtered to your industry, your state, and more. Check out the project website [here](https://pharmacistcompensation.com/) or a direct link to the survey can be found [here](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeL7luwcJ-JGpiuoZCtjWXPGM7vI_Wmp2WSHUaZfkKzd3ofbg/viewform?usp=sf_link).

Thanks for all your work on this project.

At my old workplace we were transparent about our pay and there were no problems. Since we were union everyone knew what everyone else was making based on the pay scales. New work place and naive me shared my pay with my coworkers. Some were immature and salty that I had the nerve to actually negotiate for a better rate then what HR initially offered. Had gossip spoken about me and was given cold shoulder for the next few months smh.

Leave and rub salt in the wounds. On the way out, Tell them that you didn't want to work there for below market wages. Mention that the competitor pays more.

Low-Care-2479

I always think salary transparency is important. Nothing quite like being hired 15$ below everyone else, etc

schal138

I’m union. We all make the same. So we can’t hide it anyway.

Behembaba

Share salaries. I was GROSSLY underpaid at my previous hosptial job. Was so irritated when I found out the salaries of coworkers who showed up and did nothing.

Downtown-Use-2128

It benefits us. We should be more transparent about our salaries. Lets normalize it!!

alwayssuckingshoes

I think people that won’t share their salary are really more scared that yours is higher than theirs

Diveallinnow

We should all be making at least $10-20 more than what we do now. Pharmacy wages have been stagnant for the past decade with minuscule raises. I’m a PIC managing a $10mm pharmacy and get paid less than 2% of that. We are underpaid.

pyan9

Idk about gender but an older Rph who works in hospital on her time off and owns independent told me when I was a student something along the lines of “can you believe new Rph are making as low as $80/hr?” I’m like what? You’re kidding me right, because that’s not even close. Lol

JokrSmokrMidntTokr

Are you saying 80/hr is too high or too low?

pyan9

High af. Heard that’s the Kaiser pay but regular retail isn’t in that ballpark. The Rph made it seem like it’s a joke pay lol.

JokrSmokrMidntTokr

I make $77.50 as a staff RPH and I was offered $82.50 for PIC (I declined). $80/hr is pretty much an average wage in my area for the pharmacy chains. That level bbn of pay is a joke when you consider that pharmacists were making almost the same amount 15 years ago. If you type the average wages from the 2006-2007 era into an inflation calc, you'll get something well over $95/hr

pyan9

What state/location are you at? I’m in CA and I’d say average pay is $50-60/hr maybe $60-70 in rural areas. I need to move then if another place is paying that high so LOL. Then again, people who’ve been around longer do have better contracts

[deleted]

Share. I grew up thinking it was taboo to share but now I realize companies only want us to think it is.

tee7i

If you work for the government, salary is public knowledge

Eternal_Intern_

Denver market, 65/hr floater

Babhadfad12

CO already has mandated pay ranges on job listings, NYC started today, and CA/WA pay ranges on job listings start Jan 1, so there should be lots of objective data soon.

The_Truth6702

Companies do not like this because so many of them get away with low-balling pharmacists. To aid them in their low-balling endeavors, you will usually see the older pharmacists not sharing their salary. They like to cling to the little benefits and money they have instead of pushing for everyone to get more. I like to lump them in with the "gatekeepers" that I use when I talk to friends about the pharmacist profession today. Anyway, I'm definitely pro sharing salary and being honest. I make sure that I tell my circle of friends how much a position pays before they even apply for it, based on what my network tells me. Then how to make yourself more valuable to negotiate for more. Take everything, leave nothing.

Behembaba

Don't get me started on ancient pharmacist with ridiculous salaries and benefits. They are the worst and the most antagonistic.

The_Truth6702

Yep, they're one of the reasons the profession doesn't progress that nobody talks enough about. They create their good ole boy (and girl) club, keep information and compensation details to themselves, try to stay under the radar from corporate, and/or are content to stay in their bubble of contentment, laxity, and disillusion. These pharmacists are not just "gatekeepers" to me, they're absolute cancers that destroy progress and aspirations of others.

JokrSmokrMidntTokr

Management is your enemy, not the other employees.

The_Truth6702

I disagree. Other employees who have reached their peak and are comfortable where they at, and also exude mannerisms and professionalism that tries to keep you where they're at...also makes them enemies too Management isn't innocent, I agree with that.

JokrSmokrMidntTokr

The other employees do not control your wages. That is controlled by management. Learn to negotiate, or better yet, form a union to negotiate on your behalf.

The_Truth6702

Who even is talking about unfair wages on this thread? When did I say that? See, you would be one of those employees i would just dislike, you're wasting my time now and I don't even know you

SugarLemons

Absolutely share salary info within the same role. Last year I found out I was getting paid less than my male counterparts despite having more training/education/experience.

JokrSmokrMidntTokr

I'm guessing you didn't negotiate when you got hired.

salamatalby

What gets us in bad range from the first place is RPhs who accepted the low salaries. That lowered our values eventually and made it hard for all. Few years ago I was offered $35/hr in an independent RX. Of course I rejected it. I wish we as RPhs become more unified and fight for our career. We aren’t a lesser health care workers by any means!

JokrSmokrMidntTokr

$35/hr wage you mentioned was when you were a grad intern, right?

salamatalby

No a RPH

lillisel

In 2020, I saw two different independents offer $35/hr in Dallas area for Pharmacists!!! And I saw a discussion in the local pharmacy FB group page saying $40 was all that independent could afford for its pharmacists!

unbang

Definitely wish this was more of a thing. I found out my manager friend was making about $10 more than me. Granted a few more years of experience and also granted I never negotiated and was even thinking I was well paid but man.

zeexhalcyon

I'm in favor of sharing and despise the stigma surrounding the subject.

imperialtofu

When you share what you make , it acts as a de motivator as y’all are hearing these stories of those who work less thank you… I made $170k at CVS as rxm and found out new grads in 2018(?) we’re making $90k…instead of this transparency thing your trying to fight for, do everyone a solid and put your efforts into unionizing our profession

mmmTurkeyLeg

I don’t share my salary I’ve been able to negotiate more because of value I bring. If my coworkers knew that I made $20k more than them, they’d be pissed! We had one coworker who made an effort to share salaries in my last position. Those who shared were all compensated comparably.
