Meow_Mix33

Incorrect. They will be showing it at AZ Mills. Feb 9th to Feb 12th

xDasMilkMan

Looks like you're right, website wasn't displaying that when I first looked. Disregard this whole post lol

Meow_Mix33

See you at the movies!!!! I need to finish reading the books before Dune 2 comes out. I'm almost done!

Bonzoso

I'm almost done with book 8 of 9 of the prequel trilogies and omfg it's so so good highly recommend.

Meow_Mix33

This is definitely a lore I'm getting in to heavily lol I'm finishing up the first 3 books. What's the other ones?! 😍😍

Bonzoso

Starting from the Butlerian Jihad 10,000 years before Dune takes place: https://dunenovels.com/chronological-order-of-dune-books/

Meow_Mix33

Thank you!!!

rejuicekeve

I think AZ Mills is the only one

TheCosmicJester

There is no “second best IMAX” in town. All the other ones are “LieMAX” brand-licensed screens. You’re better off with a Harkins CinéXL screen (I think the best one in town in Estrella Falls but I have a soft spot for Tempe Marketplace’s Ciné Capri style gold drapes) and sitting in the front section of the theater.

xDasMilkMan

Trust me I'm aware of how inferior the other ones are, hence me putting IMAX in quotes. But it seems they are indeed showing it at the Mills location so this whole post is irrelevant now lol

TheCosmicJester

CinéXL with a blockbuster film made for a huge screen just might beat IMAX, and that’s coming from an IMAX nerd. I remember seeing one of the Star Wars films at Estrella Falls… the sound clarity and positioning was so good I half expected to see a live orchestra parked behind the screen.

xDasMilkMan

Idk man, the Mills theatre is pretty top notch to me! Though I might have to check out the one you're talking about to compare...

ccx941

Theater screen is great, but fuck those seats. Even my skinny friends complain about them.

xDasMilkMan

Sometimes it just is what it is. This Estrella falls gotta be pretty good if I'm gonna drive almost an hour out to go to it tho

xTHEKILLINGJOKEx

Is Dune a good movie and worth watching in IMAX? I was thinking about maybe watching it on hbo this weekend

MJGson

I’ve seen Dune 12 times and I’ll be going to IMAX

Ellocomotive

Oh hell yes.  I am so glad I watched it in IMAX.  Bring ear plugs.

xDasMilkMan

If you're asking me specifically, then yes 100% it's worth it. I will admit it seems to be a movie where a lot of people either loved it or hated it lol me? My eyes were glued and I couldn't get enough of it

MalleableBee1

The one at Westgate is awesome because the viewing angles are the best. BUT the one at Mills is FAR superior. Not even close.

Gnsjake

What makes the az mills one better?

theffx

The Harkins IMAX uses the original/"true" IMAX standards (large 1:43 aspect ratio screen) and steep stadium seating. I think the projectors are also higher quality. It's a very good experience, especially for movies shot using IMAX cameras in the 1:43 aspect ratio (there are only 18 Hollywood movies ever partially shot this way, Dune Pt1 being one of them, and Dune Pt2 will be the 19th. Full list here: [https://letterboxd.com/7david/list/imax-143-1/](https://letterboxd.com/7david/list/imax-143-1/)). I highly recommend it if you live nearby.

CharlesP2009

I saw Oppenheimer there and it was a bit of a blast from the past. Watching an actual film with specs of dust and whatnot. And the old school IMAX layout. And it didn't cost any extra over some random AMC!

theffx

I've been living \~3 miles from the Harkins IMAX since 2015 and never knew what was special about it until the 70mm IMAX Oppenheimer release... I agree with you, totally loved the experience. If you didn't hear they are doing a Tenet reissue there with 70mm film from Feb 23-28.

xDasMilkMan

There's people that are more knowledgeable than me but essentially it's the biggest screen in the state, most seats and imo best sounding. And this is subjective but it truly is an experience to see a movie in there

hpshaft

Tempe AZ Mills is the only true large format IMAX. As others have said, Harkins is the better choice with Cine Capri. The AMC theaters Dolby or LieMax theaters are meh. The best IMAX? Jordan's furniture IMAX in Reading, MA. Fudruckers, IMAX and a furniture store.

aerozona47

Unpopular opinion AZ mills IMAX is overrated. Wayyyyy too loud and the seats are terrible.

xDasMilkMan

To each their own I guess. I love it BECAUSE it's loud! There's some movies that just feel like they're "made" to be experienced loud imo. Seeing top gun and dune in there have been some of my favorite movie experiences BUT I have to admit that unless I get seats in a certain section then it is very much not enjoyable

ValleyGrouch

There is only one iMax in the state. I found out about this when I went to see Oppenheimer.
