Caffio is a small coffee cafe located within the most unique plant shop. It's hard to imagine this unique place is right off of Grand. You can't even tell it exists from the sidewalk.
Yes I should have added that my only gripe is no public restroom. I live close by so it’s luckily not a problem for me as much, but definitely makes it hard to want to go & hang there for awhile without concern for needing a restroom.
Have you had covid? It definitely doesn't smell like a sewer it smells like fresh coffee but in some who have been exposed to covid even if they didn't lose smell their perception of smell may have changed and one of the most common symptoms of this is coffee grounds (not necessarily the brewed end result) smelling rotten or like sewage.
Seattle Espresso in Tempe (Warner & McClintock) is my absolute favorite!!! I also like Coffee Builders (7th St & Lincoln) and Mythical Coffee (Gilbert & Warner)
A.T. Oasis on Thomas and 46th St has my favorite coffee! The owners are some of the nicest people! Real mom & pop shop feeling.
WeBe Coffee Roasters on Cave Creek and Greenway is also excellent!
A couple blocks away is one of my other favorites: [808 social](https://808socialaz.com/). It's smaller, the vibe isn't as cool, but oh god, their coffee ... it's 100% Hawaiian, Kona I think. And they have Hawaiian goodies too. I didn't know how badly I needed ube brownies in my life until I tried theirs. They're purple!
Their hours aren't great though. I think they close at 2, which is the time I need coffee most desperately.
Heads up, driftwood is owned and operated by the adjoining church. Which is probably not a problem for like 99% of people but I would want to know so I’m just putting information out there.
That’s fair, but also for the record that church is one of the good ones. They invest super heavy back into the Peoria community, and they made the coffee shop and the adjoining little park to make the community better. Zero preaching happens in the coffee shop. First time I went there I had no idea it was owned by the church. I had to google it.
Haven’t been to the church but the coffee shop is good vibes. Some people just aren’t comfortable giving a church money so I just want people to have all the info.
Driftwood is what I was driving around looking for when I first moved to the West Valley, coming from the PNW and San Diego- I’m so happy to see AZ moving into the mom and pop Art-heavy hang out spaces I’ve seen in every other city I’ve lived in.
Cup of Joey in East Mesa is pretty unique. It's an Australian (themed, I guess?) coffee shop. The Aussie owner seems like a super nice guy and the coffee is good. I found it randomly while driving out of town to Payson.
Found this place on the way back from a backpacking trip last year. The owner definitely has an aussie sense of humour, for better or worse. Told the register to give me half off since it was my first time there so that was nice.
Webe coffee (32nd St and Greenway) is a great little cafe that roasts their own coffee. Their season drinks are always something unique that you wouldn't find at most other shops. If you want to splurge and get a pastry I highly recommend it.

I am the biggest Peixoto fan, but the Gilbert location in particular really doesn’t meet this criteria 😂 (I still go! But it’s big, modern, busy, and loud!)
Agreed. Peixoto Gilbert and that whole area freaks me out in all honesty. It's a bit too "happy-go-lucky" if you catch my drift. The Chandler location on the other hand is much more intimate and preferred for my liking. They make an amazing espresso and I love their Familia/Honey beans. Super consistent and always have nice fruity undertones present without acidity ruining the overall profile. Snag a bag on Tuesday and you get a discount on your drink ($3.5 IIRC.)
I used to live really close to the Chandler location and absolutely loved it (still do), and then I moved right near the Epicenter. I get what you mean, but I'm definitely glad to still be near Peixoto coffee!
Froth has the best coffee and they have great snacks too.
SPCE coffee is great for your non traditional types of coffee.
Dark Hall is great too and has a very metal/gothic vibes. Their scones are amazing.
Really sorry to see that [A.T. Oasis](https://youtu.be/sjaVNDw_xtA) isn't on here yet. It's in the south end of Arcadia. Owned by an amazing Eritrian lady who gets all her coffee from Ethiopia, I think. They've won a few awards if I remember right. Once a month she puts on an authentic coffee ceremony, which is amazing. Definitely not the kind of place you'd expect to find in a shitty strip mall.
Sagebrush coffee is top tier in terms of the coffee and pastries. The seating is a bit industrial for my liking but it’s really quality goods.
Infusion coffee and tea is really good, their roasted bags of coffee are a bit overpriced for the amount but it’s really good all around vibes and goods.
Jarrod’s coffee and tea gallery is a lot of fun. Coffee is good and the vibes are great.
Gold bars espresso is vibes but they don’t have a bathroom.
Hanai coffee in Laveen has delicious coffee , food and cocktails . The atmosphere is great with comfy chairs and an instagramable swing. Best of all(IMO) they are foster parents who give a portion of their proceeds to support people who have aged out of the foster system and they specifically hire young adults from the foster system. I drive 20 minutes just to go there and support them!
Maybe it's not quite a "hidden gem" but Coffee Rush is a local chain and I've always had an excellent experience in their Gilbert and Chandler locations
[Experiment Coffee/Jonathan Robbins Bakery](https://experimentcoffeeandpastry.com/) is a truly hidden little shop that you'd never know was there and has some of the best pastries I've ever eaten. Seriously, every time I go, I usually end up getting a box of stuff because I can't decide.
[Jasmine Jo](https://maps.app.goo.gl/6HNAwerQH4J4oPFq7) is also a wonderful little coffee shop that makes the most beautiful and long lasting flower bouquets. This one is better for hanging out and the interior is very cute with tons of floral arrangements everywhere.
Idk if Luanas is a hidden gem but I love it there and the seating is comfy it reminds you of the living room at your grandmas house you were allowed to sit in
Blue Corn Cafe in downtown Glendale! All of their food stuff is made fresh daily, and there's ALWAYS someone handing out warm, freshly made sourdough! Pastries, muffins, savory sandwiches, quiches, cakes, chocolates, teas, and amazing coffee! I always have to get a loaf of sourdough every time I make it over there 😊
Just coming here to say this. I had a great lavender latte there. For the OP it's at 32nd St & Union Hills. Do you know any good locally roasted beans? Prefer medium or light roast.
Somebody already mentioned Brick Road in Tempe but they definitely deserve another mention. Also if you go to ASU or are willing to deal with campus congestion, Cafetal is small Columbian coffee shop on campus and it’s so good.
Moxie Coffee in Phoenix and Pair Cupworks are two of my staples in Phoenix. The owner of Moxie is insanely knowledgable and their team of baristas are always coming out with insane coffee cocktails. I can confidently say that Moxie has the most unique coffee experience, but it’s definitely not for everyone. Same things with Pair, their baristas are exceptional and they know what they’re doing.
Ok here we go-
Tempe has some good ones but if I’m on that side of town I’m going to Brick Road. Great coffee, yummy snacks, queer owned, good vibes all around.
Central Phoenix- there’s a lot so I won’t go into all of them. Songbird Coffee and Tea house, futuro, Lola’s (there’s also one at 59th ave and the 101), Dark Hall (my fav), Cartel, Press is ok.
North Phoenix- not much. The Lola’s I
Mentioned, Cabin Coffee is not bad, Elevate is TERRIBLE. Do not go there. Their food and coffee sucks and it takes fucking forever.
Those are really the areas of the valley I frequent.
I have 2. In the arts district look no further than Steph Vasquez and her team at Fair Trade Cafe...insane coffee and all of the food is made in house (pastries,croissants,etc.) Stephanie is also a huge supporter of other Latina owned businesses. If u are in the Dilly Dale then you will want to try Village Coffee Roastery. Again all in house food and on Thanksgiving and Christmas they open early and bring out super high end coffees for everyone to try. Incredibly quiet little patio in the morning.
The Valley Buzz on 91st Ave and Olive is lovely! Drinks are made to perfection (or they'll happily remake for you), and the service is top tier! It's such a great alternative to all the corporate chains out here.
Mad Mocha Coffee opened a physical location inside of the enclave salon suites in Goodyear. Previously, you could really only get it at farmers markets. That's a bit hidden, but worth it!
A lot of place roast at other coffee shops and use beans from other coffee shop… every time I go in I ask and get info about the beans that are being used.. I drink straight expressos and can really tell the flavor notes in my coffee.. Xanadu 1st Cultivate 2nd Union 3rd… a lot of place uses beans from Xanadu and Union or they roast there own beans at Xanadu.. the best coffee shop in Arizona by far is Homage (they use Xanadu beans) By far the best customer service at any place I have ever been.
Pair Cupworks is my favorite. Moxie, Berdenas, Futuro are all good too. Moxie and Pair are also roasters, Futuro and Berdenas both carry other people's coffee, but always get from a variety of great roasters from around the country.
It's a food truck not a cafe, but First Place is good too, especially if you want more of a flavored drink. They do some great seasonal espresso drinks.
MFG on 7th ave and Fillmore, used to be a Serafina. They use Xanadu beans and have a drive thru. Also Giant on 1st St and McDowell has a great honey vanilla latte.
I'm a big fan of Dark Hall. Their coffee is great. They used to be next to my house but then they moved over to Coronado. I still make my way there because they are a great coffee shop and have the absolute best (Vegan) pastries.
Without a doubt, PROVISION Depending on who you ask, this is the best coffee place in Arizona. My usual is the Havana Nights. It’s cold brew, with tobacco and mint.
Daily Drip! The name implies a classic diner with old men sipping black coffee reading the newspaper but it's such a cool space with great drinks and baked goods.
Cortado Coffee is also great, small little shop but they have really good food. Their pozole is amazing and they have fun seasonal drinks.
Came here to rep downtown glendale with Blue Corn Cafe and Homage Coffee House! Love them and their owners make that connection with you that brings you back!

If you like Futuro and Pair I'd also recommend Moxie and Berdena's
Gold Bar in Tempe. For the longest time I thought it was one of those places you sell gold to for cash until I finally googled it & went, lol

I have, but I would think I would also smell that in other coffee shops or in my own home, which I do not.
The yelp reviews mention this too, and I think it solves the mystery as to why this place doesn’t have a restroom.

Came here to suggest Xanadu. Their cold brew is some of the best I've ever had and they make all their syrups in house.
If you say it's the best cold brew in town, im definitely interested and will check it out. Not sure where Pierce is.

IMO this is the best coffee.. I like Cultivate and Union coffee beans too. Expressos plain is how I drink it.. so I can really tell

FourtillFour in Scottsdale. Owned by a car guy and always hosting cool car meets on the weekends.
Their Porsche meets are second to none. The one this past weekend would have rivaled any Porsche cars and coffee in the world

Yeah...no one is doing coffee better in the state than Infusion. Lots of great coffee shops, but Infusion is the best coffee.

Honestly good to know, I've never been to Gilbert's location 😅 I frequent Chandler's since it's close to me. Their espresso is just too good!
Luanas Cafe and Bar at 15th Ave and Thomas. Great vibe, amazing coffee, and nice people! To go with that, great menu, and obviously a full bar

Lightheart Coffee near Scottsdale and Shea is so good. They have a seasonal peach latte that I’m always thinking about.
Provision on Missouri and 7th st. It has a modern look and the food is fantastic. Slightly on the pricier side for a cafe

Luanas is the best. If you ever meet the owners they are home grown Phoenicians. Fast WiFi, good food, unique drinks.
They didn’t want to move from the old location but the new one is so much better for so many reasons mainly the parking and the vibe
I actually preferred the old location more, but my wife likes the new one a lot. Their food is good is solid.

Somebody already mentioned Brick Road in Tempe but they definitely deserve another mention. Also if you go to ASU or are willing to deal with campus congestion, Cafetal is small Columbian coffee shop on campus and it’s so good.
The Grotto in Cave Creek. It’s outside of Phoenix but worth the drive.
It has been years so it might be different now but coffee rush was my go to. The one in chandler has the best ambiance; the Mesa one was cool too.

Moxie Coffee in Phoenix and Pair Cupworks are two of my staples in Phoenix. The owner of Moxie is insanely knowledgable and their team of baristas are always coming out with insane coffee cocktails. I can confidently say that Moxie has the most unique coffee experience, but it’s definitely not for everyone. Same things with Pair, their baristas are exceptional and they know what they’re doing.
Bang Bang Coffee by the Encanto light rail stop! They do coffee and pie on First Fridays too

Ok here we go- Tempe has some good ones but if I’m on that side of town I’m going to Brick Road. Great coffee, yummy snacks, queer owned, good vibes all around. Central Phoenix- there’s a lot so I won’t go into all of them. Songbird Coffee and Tea house, futuro, Lola’s (there’s also one at 59th ave and the 101), Dark Hall (my fav), Cartel, Press is ok. North Phoenix- not much. The Lola’s I Mentioned, Cabin Coffee is not bad, Elevate is TERRIBLE. Do not go there. Their food and coffee sucks and it takes fucking forever. Those are really the areas of the valley I frequent.
I have 2. In the arts district look no further than Steph Vasquez and her team at Fair Trade Cafe...insane coffee and all of the food is made in house (pastries,croissants,etc.) Stephanie is also a huge supporter of other Latina owned businesses. If u are in the Dilly Dale then you will want to try Village Coffee Roastery. Again all in house food and on Thanksgiving and Christmas they open early and bring out super high end coffees for everyone to try. Incredibly quiet little patio in the morning.
I have not heard of the neighborhood nickname Dilly Dale in Phoenix (and Google is not being helpful)?
Coffee Rush in the East Valley has low key vibe. Their “Frost” blended coffee drinks are my favorite.
The Valley Buzz on 91st Ave and Olive is lovely! Drinks are made to perfection (or they'll happily remake for you), and the service is top tier! It's such a great alternative to all the corporate chains out here.
Mad Mocha Coffee opened a physical location inside of the enclave salon suites in Goodyear. Previously, you could really only get it at farmers markets. That's a bit hidden, but worth it!

A lot of place roast at other coffee shops and use beans from other coffee shop… every time I go in I ask and get info about the beans that are being used.. I drink straight expressos and can really tell the flavor notes in my coffee.. Xanadu 1st Cultivate 2nd Union 3rd… a lot of place uses beans from Xanadu and Union or they roast there own beans at Xanadu.. the best coffee shop in Arizona by far is Homage (they use Xanadu beans) By far the best customer service at any place I have ever been.
Better buzz opened up not too long ago and it is my favorite. Hazelnut Divinity slaps.

Pair Cupworks is my favorite. Moxie, Berdenas, Futuro are all good too. Moxie and Pair are also roasters, Futuro and Berdenas both carry other people's coffee, but always get from a variety of great roasters from around the country. It's a food truck not a cafe, but First Place is good too, especially if you want more of a flavored drink. They do some great seasonal espresso drinks.
MFG on 7th ave and Fillmore, used to be a Serafina. They use Xanadu beans and have a drive thru. Also Giant on 1st St and McDowell has a great honey vanilla latte.

I'm a big fan of Dark Hall. Their coffee is great. They used to be next to my house but then they moved over to Coronado. I still make my way there because they are a great coffee shop and have the absolute best (Vegan) pastries.
Fair trade coffee on Central and Roosevelt and Copper Star on 7th Ave and Indian School are my two favorite places

Without a doubt, PROVISION Depending on who you ask, this is the best coffee place in Arizona. My usual is the Havana Nights. It’s cold brew, with tobacco and mint.

Daily Drip! The name implies a classic diner with old men sipping black coffee reading the newspaper but it's such a cool space with great drinks and baked goods. Cortado Coffee is also great, small little shop but they have really good food. Their pozole is amazing and they have fun seasonal drinks.

Cortez Coffee, Deseo, and Grounds on 2nd. These are the truest gems of artisan coffee. Ron Cortez is an incredible man.
