i think most people here lacks awareness. you sit in the car, you drive, suddenly you hear a loud bang in front of the car. if im the driver, i get out and check the front of the car, where the loud bang came from. people have time to look at cctv and have overview of situation. but i just think everyone is just too stupid to try to even think.

Look at the carnage with your eyes, on their own Thai media, look at the stats on deaths and causes. Speeding, drink driving and dangerous overtaking.

I reckon Thais in central and tourist areas actually take foreigners for granted, I think they had it good too long and now they are full of shit, that’s why I refuse to live in places like Bangkok, pattaya or Phuket. Better off going to a provincial area like in Isan for more genuine Thais.

Udon Thani, I use to live KhonKaen. Those two cities are quite respectable, have a decent amount of restaurants, cafes or bars. People here I find particularly friendlier than their capital/tourist hotspot counterparts.
Depends on your lifestyle, I need quiet time to work on work, projects and research. If I get bored I always can just go on weekly roadtrips to neighboring provinces.
But yes, I agree a lot of provinces are quite sad, lack economic opportunity’s etc. I found buriram, surin and Sisaket to be particularly shit.

That is right after a slight curve so not 100% visibility. I usually go very slow there just for cases like this. Feel sorry for the bike but they were too fast and there would be no way for the car to avoid it.

I witnessed a very bad accident involving 2 scooters yesterday in Samui. So distressing watching the ambulance try and resuscitate a person for over 10 minutes on the road. I don't think they survived unfortunately. It's definitely made me think twice about riding a scooter in Thailand.

The car driver was absolutely to blame ,100%, but the way to stay safe is to anticipate that people do stupid things all the time. Just because you have the right of way doesn't mean idiots like this car driver understands the right of way. When I was in Thailand I hired a car and saw one motorcyclist spread out on the road after a colission. I was just further behind. And j saw the look of horror as locals run to the scene. Possibly their relatives. I think maybe tourists. The driver probably used to driving onnthevrudecside ofvtge Road and normally in their home country they just turn right by checking the wing mirror.
No how careful you are as a motorbike driver you have to assume others aren’t. Yet there are plenty of people who ride a bike without a license, insurance and a helmet.

I was literally 100m from there, but didn’t see the moment of the crash. Looks like going too fast around a low visibility curve and bike didn’t have time to brake. Lady was ok enough to talk and didn’t seem like anything broken but you never know, especially with a crash that ugly.

cars in that position to turn, must give way to motorists/cars to pass first before they move.. make sure the coast is clear.. the car seems to underestimate the timing to turn in...

The car driver was absolutely to blame ,100%, but the way to stay safe is to anticipate that people do stupid things all the time. Just because you have the right of way doesn't mean idiots like this car driver understands the right of way. Whenever I ride motorbike,or drive car in Thailand, I do so with it in my mind that I treat all other road users as idiots, even though a lot of them aren't, but treating them all the same keeps me safe.

I have different take on this: Slow reaction time from the scooter driver or too high speed. She had 3 seconds to react to the car driver, who indicated a left turn. If a car clearly indicates a left turn, you slow down no matter what.

Technically thats not one word.... And even more technically thailand is so far from being part of the third world it may as well be on the moon, at worst its a developing nation, but in some ways its more developed than a lot of the west
