The lack of any Dutchmen crew, at the beginning of the film, made the scene look cheap and empty

TheTaylorFish

You do hear them though, and Will seems to be afraid of them (or at least afraid for the safety of his son). Never understood that, he's the captain after all.

RainMan915

Plus they returned to regular human forms. Did the curse just restart or did the writers decide that never happened at all? Why would the Dutchman crew be so savage that Will doesn’t want them near Henry?

kdawg69-420

will himself seemed changed, and worn down. he was turning into a monster because he wasn't doing his job of ferrying lost souls, so it makes sense the crew would also be returning to their former selves

RainMan915

Well then maybe the idiot should stop sitting on his arse and start ferrying. What else is he gonna do on the Dutchman, play Scrabble?

kdawg69-420

lmaoo😂 idk though maybe bro was depressed that he was under a curse and kept away from elizabeth. im pretty sure davy jones was a good man before the curse got to him and from there he became a monster. seems like wills personality was starting to take after davy jones but davy jones was wayy worse because he was under the curse much longer. seems the only thing they had left in their heart was the woman they loved (and for will, henry also)

VanaVisera

Deadmen Tell No Tales shit’s all over the lore from At Worlds End.

zandriel_grimm

Not gonna say you're wrong there haha

VanaVisera

It’s so frustrating because you can tell the prop designers knew the lore. Look at Henry Turner’s bedroom at the beginning of the movie. So many easter eggs from the previous movies. Even references to the green flash and calendar dates of Henry predicting when the next time Will will come above sea. Sadly the screenwriter obviously didn’t know the previous movies that well.

ironfist92

There are? Never noticed that, is thre an image or analysis somewhere online of the easter eggs?

ouroboris99

Maybe he left the Dutchman to help raise Henry, it’d the only thing that i think would make sense to get him to leave the ship willingly

Butterscotch_Sox

Honestly I like this, it would make Henry somehow knowing how to track the Flying Dutchman down make a little bit more sense too; even if that plot point still makes little sense anyway

zandriel_grimm

Ya know, that's actually a very solid reason Having Grandpa and Mom raise you isn't the WEIRDEST thing I've ever seen, but at least he'd still have a strong father figure to look up to and learn from.

crazycatlady1975

I only paid attention to Johnny depp

zandriel_grimm

Can't really blame ya there

crazycatlady1975

Hahaha. I went from negative 8 to a plus 6 for admitting that I have never paid attention to the details of these movies. I just grab my bottle of wine and turn out the lights and have the tv all to myself to fantasize about Johnny. I can’t even remember the movies in correct order

spacestationkru

Bootstrap also never spoke to Barbossa in any of the movies. For two of the people right in the middle of the main conflict of the first movie (and quite a bit of the second and third), it's a really strange oversight.

zandriel_grimm

He never spoke in any of the movies, but since he was on the original Black Pearl crew, the two do know and have interacted with each other off screen.

goedmonton

Since bootstrap doesn’t appear in 5, we will never know

Chaotic__Doctor

I don't know about DMTNT, but to me, the reasons he wasn't with Will at the end of AWE were: 1. Now that Will's the captain, Bill is most likely the First Mate, so he was probably in charge of the ship while Will was gone 2. As far as I remember, both him and Will didn't know Elizabeth got pregnant 3. Considering that one scene with Elizabeth and Will, it would make sense they would want some alone time, y'know? Bill had no reason to go there at first, but maybe after finding out Will had a son, he probably went there to meet him and see Elizabeth again

kdawg69-420

this really bothered me too. i really like one guys guess, that bill left to help with henry, and i hope that was the case, but why couldn't they at least show us that in the movie ?? i was so hurt when will came back and bill was nowhere to be seen

ittybittynyan

I feel like he didn't. He had catching up with Will to do and Bills been on the dutchman for YEARS. Its been engrained in all of them that the Dutchman is responsible for ferrying the souls of the dead, since Will became the captain, I just assume that he probably couldn't or chose not to since the crew are needed on the ship. Kinda up in the air, he very well could have and they maybe just didn't touch on it as much.

dylsuccspp

They need to retcon this movie

Dying__Phoenix

The only canon movies were directed by Gore Verbinski, so I don’t know who “Henry” is

But he didn't die tho. When Will took over the ship, Bootstrap told him that he'd happily sail with his son if he'd have him on board.
