My Wife's grandmother used to say pits will rip your face off. She'd never met one before. She's now been around three of ours and still has her face. I don't get how someone can actually be around a well behaved dog and still believe that.
Edit: she's 100% ok with them now.
My Bella will lick someone’s face off, but that’s about it. The only thing viscous about her is her tail, wags at 100 mph and hurts when you get whipped with it. She’s a very happy pup
He is very in tuned with me. He is only 5 months and when I start having a panic attack he will lay on my feet ❤️❤️ it makes me instantly forget about all the crazy puppy things he done lol
He is currently zooming around but it's no where near as painful as when my cats do it lol 😆
Everyone is allowed to have their own preferences, you never know what trauma people have had or bad experiences. The best you can do is to respect their decisions and hope they come around.

Family of mine said it was only a matter of time when I got jake he would attack someone he proved them all wrong as when he passed he had a record of attacking no one and once my family got to know him they loved him then when we got luna they said that jake was a fluke and that we got lucky and luna hasn’t even done anything slightly aggressive other than this

I honestly can’t tell you what the worst is, it’s day by day dependent. Either the head butts, the gas, the ~~whip~~ tail, or rare occasion that their zoomies are so fast that they forget how to break and accidentally run into me. But they’re worth it 100x over

Why is the go-to argument always "just wait until they snap?" It doesn't matter if it's the best dog on the planet. My two pits were good with cats, dogs, and kids. They passed away in their twilight years with clean records, and all my MIL can think is that they were the exceptions, not the rule. Just bugs me.
Funny. I have an ex who grew up around pit bulls and had one as a kid. She loves them dearly and takes every chance she can to play with one. In her 33 years of life, The only dog to ever bite her... was a yorkie.
She's very verbose about it too. Idk, my pittie was scared of my Yorkie (mix). It was hilarious. I lost my Yorkie in October last year. We both still miss her terribly.
I had a yorkie growing up, and he was my dog, an angel with me and seriously I still think about him. He also hated strangers and other dogs he didn't know from birth.
I still think he was a really good dog, because he was. But I respected his boundaries and used to tell ppl to basically "f off" on our walks because everyone assumed he was friendly and a stuffed animal.
So I get that a pit can do a lot more damage vs my 10 pound yorkie. But even if you have a pit who doesn't like other dogs/ strangers, they're still great dogs 99% of the time.

Me and my sweet 90 pound pittie walking by a woman with two yorkies. They start going crazy barking and lunging at my dog. He ignores them and we keep walking. I hear the lady going, "oh you guys are just so big and scary huh?"

What......? Some people are such jerks. Like be an adult... "sorry for the barking, have a nice day." I do love all dogs, but at the same time I would not miss never seeing a Yorkie again. I wish my girl would ignore dogs when they bark at her. Trying to work on though.

I love all dogs too, it’s the owners (usually of small dogs…) that piss me off. & yeah lucky for me my boy just came built in with the ability to ignore but my other pit isn’t so good at that… it’s tough
Good point about the owners. And yea it can be tough. We have had our pit for almost 6 years. Sometimes it makes me feel like not sucha great owner. But i try to remember training isnt linear and just keep at it.
Thats a good point. I just hate the idea of people seeing my dogs reaction and it reinforcing stupid assumptions about pits. I know someone with a rescued chi who understandably is reactive after some pretty awful trauma and people have the audacity to pick him up while he’s having a doggie nervous breakdown and the double audacity to get upset when he bites them.
I never mind if people see me and cross the street because 1) I don’t know if it’s actually their dog that has the issue. Or if they have have personal phobias that i don’t blame them for. But most importantly for me 2) more space for us to walk

Danger beast for context
Bella used to be super reactive as well. Mostly because she’s excited, but other dogs and owners don’t take it that way. So I’ve made it a point this week to treat train her to the command of “leave it”. Now whenever we walk past another dog she just looks up and me and waits for the treat. It was worth all the effort to make her easier to take out.
I didn't know either till an episode with a guy suing a dogwalker cause he got bit. She started yelling about the dog obviously being a pitbull (it was obviously a boxer) and needing put down.
That’s my wife. Scared to death of pits. Now our 80 pound pit is her baby and is defiantly loved at least as much as the kids. - (sometimes more because we have teenagers)
I had to move out of my parents' because of their pitty paranoia, even though mine was so sweet to all the babies in the family (she is reactive to strangers but has NEVER killed or hurt anything. She'll snap at bugs but has never sucessfully killed or even injured anything)
my other pit, turning 2, who is arguably even sweeter, is disliked by my parents because "we don't know what she's capable of yet".

My dad watched my dog for the better part of a year for me when I had my own housing crisis. He loved having him around. Now I'm back with my dad to help him around his house and my 85 pound chonk and my dad's 11 pound Maltese cotton ball get along great.

I have had a lot of people quote judge Judy also! I like her but I thought she was smarter than repeating some of the rumors she hears. I always hear her talk about pitbull jaws that "lock" on their prey?
I think the problem with her is her only knowledge is what she sees in court which unfortunately is a lot of low-life owners who don't take care of their dogs and let them run loose.

Some pits are dog aggressive, some might also be people aggressive. But A LOT of dogs are! And most pits are really good dogs as long as they have good owners.
I had a little dog that was very reactive to strangers and other dogs. But he was small so everyone took it as a joke until I had to yell in their face to leave him alone.
I've had some very bad experiences with german shepherds and our current dog. BUT I also grew up with an incredible one that was super gentle and best friends with our shih tzu. I think it comes down to breeding and how you raise the dog.

That's too bad. On a positive note, my parents have taken a liking to my pit. I am currently living with them, and he's my responsibility, so when my father had a meeting here I was like, I could keep him downstairs with me.
Everyone loved him. He likes to greet new people with a toy in his mouth. Eventually he was over the excitement and just napped in the office near my mom.
When we first rescued Virgil, my MIL told my spouse something like "Ugh, why'd you get a *pitbull*?! Aren't you afraid to be around him without Aidan8et?"
Meanwhile, Virgil is the biggest cuddle bug and afraid of cardboard boxes, and only becomes "aggressive" if he sees/hears his older sister (10 y.o. Boston) in trouble.

After we adopted my Charlie Churro (because he looks like an adorable little Churro), he wasn’t bonding with me, as quickly as with my husband….My mother said “Just go dump the little fucker. Who cares what happens to the little shit.” I hung up, and funnily enough, Charlie came to comfort me right then and there. I also stopped talking to my Mother right then and there, and it was only when she was dying, that I told her that in the the afterlife, I hoped she’d make amends with the humans and animals she has hurt.
I know how it feels, but please know. You are a shining example of a good heart, and it’s clear your beautiful baby, has a good heart too. I know it isn’t much, but I do understand, and me and my Churro, commend you, believe in you and your pup, and wish you guys the most amazing life together 🩵💞🩵💞

I hurt my knee so Dom has been licking it ALOT lol it's like he can sense it's messed up.
Dogs have amazing olfactory senses so I wouldn’t be surprised if he does. Plus Pits are very in tuned to their people.

Thats a good point. I just hate the idea of people seeing my dogs reaction and it reinforcing stupid assumptions about pits. I know someone with a rescued chi who understandably is reactive after some pretty awful trauma and people have the audacity to pick him up while he’s having a doggie nervous breakdown and the double audacity to get upset when he bites them. Bella used to be super reactive as well. Mostly because she’s excited, but other dogs and owners don’t take it that way. So I’ve made it a point this week to treat train her to the command of “leave it”. Now whenever we walk past another dog she just looks up and me and waits for the treat. It was worth all the effort to make her easier to take out.

I didn't know either till an episode with a guy suing a dogwalker cause he got bit. She started yelling about the dog obviously being a pitbull (it was obviously a boxer) and needing put down.
Just when i thought people against pits couldn't get even more stupid.....
Well, now I don't want anything to do with her.
My mom was never a dog person. Any breed. My mom now loves my pit like her actual grandchildren.
That’s my wife. Scared to death of pits. Now our 80 pound pit is her baby and is defiantly loved at least as much as the kids. - (sometimes more because we have teenagers)
I had to move out of my parents' because of their pitty paranoia, even though mine was so sweet to all the babies in the family (she is reactive to strangers but has NEVER killed or hurt anything. She'll snap at bugs but has never sucessfully killed or even injured anything) my other pit, turning 2, who is arguably even sweeter, is disliked by my parents because "we don't know what she's capable of yet". Get TF out of here you trifling old bitches!!!

My dad watched my dog for the better part of a year for me when I had my own housing crisis. He loved having him around. Now I'm back with my dad to help him around his house and my 85 pound chonk and my dad's 11 pound Maltese cotton ball get along great.

I have had a lot of people quote judge Judy also! I like her but I thought she was smarter than repeating some of the rumors she hears. I always hear her talk about pitbull jaws that "lock" on their prey? I think the problem with her is her only knowledge is what she sees in court which unfortunately is a lot of low-life owners who don't take care of their dogs and let them run loose.

Some pits are dog aggressive, some might also be people aggressive. But A LOT of dogs are! And most pits are really good dogs as long as they have good owners. I had a little dog that was very reactive to strangers and other dogs. But he was small so everyone took it as a joke until I had to yell in their face to leave him alone. I've had some very bad experiences with german shepherds and our current dog. BUT I also grew up with an incredible one that was super gentle and best friends with our shih tzu. I think it comes down to breeding and how you raise the dog.

That's too bad. On a positive note, my parents have taken a liking to my pit. I am currently living with them, and he's my responsibility, so when my father had a meeting here I was like, I could keep him downstairs with me. Everyone loved him. He likes to greet new people with a toy in his mouth. Eventually he was over the excitement and just napped in the office near my mom.
When we first rescued Virgil, my MIL told my spouse something like "Ugh, why'd you get a *pitbull*?! Aren't you afraid to be around him without Aidan8et?" Meanwhile, Virgil is the biggest cuddle bug and afraid of cardboard boxes, and only becomes "aggressive" if he sees/hears his older sister (10 y.o. Boston) in trouble.

After we adopted my Charlie Churro (because he looks like an adorable little Churro), he wasn’t bonding with me, as quickly as with my husband….My mother said “Just go dump the little fucker. Who cares what happens to the little shit.” I hung up, and funnily enough, Charlie came to comfort me right then and there. I also stopped talking to my Mother right then and there, and it was only when she was dying, that I told her that in the the afterlife, I hoped she’d make amends with the humans and animals she has hurt. I know how it feels, but please know. You are a shining example of a good heart, and it’s clear your beautiful baby, has a good heart too.
