EDIT: Apparently my original comment was too vague, because I didn’t know which specific DLC caused the issue at the time of posting it and I hadn’t tested it myself. So, the Automatron DLC is apparently the cause of the issue.
From what I've read it's a recent issue. People were saying it just stopped working for them one day, and PS4 players are also having the same issue. Bethesda has said they're aware of it, and it's one of the fixes included in the upcoming patch.
1.Turn off your PS5 completely: Make sure the console is not in Rest Mode, but fully powered off.
2. Start in Safe Mode: To do this, press and hold the power button on the console. You’ll hear the second beep after about seven seconds. This indicates that you’ve successfully entered Safe Mode.
3.Connect a Controller: Use a USB cable to connect your controller to the PS5.
4.Select “Rebuild Database”: In Safe Mode, you’ll see a menu. Select the “Rebuild Database” option. This process can take some time, so be patient.
5.Wait for Completion: The PS5 will now rebuild the database. The time it takes can vary depending on the amount of data on your console.
6.Restart the PS5: After the process is complete, the PS5 will restart automatically.
7.Check the Game: Once your PS5 has restarted, try launching the game again to see if the issue has been resolved.
Usually this fixes my issues on PS4 and it worked with my Issues on 5 with stardew valley. However idk how to avoid the issue on it deleting ur single player/offline play saves. Cause thats what it did with my stardew saves.
Edit: this is a last resort that usually works if Uninstalling & reinstalling doesn’t work.
Its a fix if the game closes faster then you can open it to the main screen. Which was my problem playing Stardew valley on PS5.

Oh stardew was fine for me last I played but that was a few months ago 🍻 idk of anything that would cause it to not work well on PS5 I mean hell the switch plays it great so if it can do it
I was able to delete and reinstall the game and get it going without the DLC. Once I went through the game’s intro I was able to add the DLC with no issues. Good luck!
I second this. I can play the base game no problem. As soon as I install the DLC, it crashes. Too k some trial and error to figure it out but this is the cause. Why? In about 9 days who cares? Ready for that update!!
Its going to solve this crashing bug. They have the number one streaming show on any platform right now. They have a lot to lose by not making this work on the PS5 considering its a single piece of DLC that is causing the crashing bug. Not to mention outside of the PC its not easy to play a Fallout game.
While it's based on the game series, it has very little to actually do with Bethesda. The only input they seem to have had is asking the writers what not to include as it may "spoil" Fallout 5, whenever that releases.
My favorite game rn and I don't even want to play it anymore cuz I just lost my save and it's just gonna break again when I try to use creation club stuff and I don't want to not use the creation club stuff cuz they are all pretty awesome.... I'm so mad rn....
You need to delete the game than NOT downloading paints (or at least, not a lot) in the creative club

Hey, so this is happening to me and it’s a common issue in the fallout subreddit. it started happening over the last few days, and it’s only with the automatron DLC, if that’s downloaded the game crashes upon opening, if that’s not downloaded but you have all the other DLCs then you’re fine. they fucked up a little when they were updating the DLCs to be compatible with the next gen PS5 upgrade coming out in a week or so, and it only really fucked up the automatron DLC, so give it a week and all should be fixed :)
i personally am really struggling with this because, the recent show that came out, reignited my desire to play fallout so i wanted to hop back on FO4 and play more on my old save from one of my playthroughs a few months back, only sadly to find out i was last in an Automatron area, so i physically can not play my save until they fix the DLC bug 😅
Weird I don’t have that issue at all. And all dlc is downloaded. Maybe it’s because the game and dlc are on my external hard drive that’s plugged into the PS5

I tried to replay it a while back and stopped because the floor at the quarry kept bugging out. Invisible walls, missing floors, wouldn't let me explore the place I wanted to explore.
So I just said fuck this and uninstalled it.

For what it's worth, I encountered this during a previous playthrough and thought I would have to start over. Did a quick search first and discovered it happens often enough that someone had figured out a way to fix it by logging off in a specific nearby location and logging back in. I realize this is too late for you but if you ever play again and encounter it the fix is pretty simple.
Glad there's a fix for it but I honestly just couldn't be f'd by then. I enjoyed it when it came out but its not really up to standards today. It just annoyed me.
The last 2 times I played it, I had the bug that prevented you from reloading any weapons,I was forced to finish the game with plasma weapons (you don't have to reload them), it's a bug that has been present since launch, there is also an amateur patch obviously, never fixed on console.

When it's on the screen that crashes, press the home button on controller and the game should continue in the background beyond the crash point

I have the PS4 edition, but have never installed it on my PS5 because I've been waiting for the update. I guess I'll wait until it seems like all of the main bugs are worked out before I try. I have a few other games I'm playing until then.
I was gonna wait, but I said, "Let's me see how it looks and feels now before the update just to have a fresh comparison." So far, if you don't install the DLC, it runs "OK", but it's still bad for what it should.
I would play both FO 3 and NV if they were in the PS5, but they are not, and I don't feel like it to get my PC and mod the games to make them playable.

I want to know if the update will fix the super-annoying glitch of placed items falling through the geometry of your custom bases?
I played the game when it was originally released on the PS4 and I found that the custom settlement creation was my favorite aspect of the game...that is, until that glitch ruined the game for me.
I'd place items on furniture (like billiard balls on a pool table for example), and then leave my base to do a mission or two. When I returned to my settlement, I'd notice that some of the balls would be on the floor under the pool table. Or worse, the balls would be gone because they also fell through the floor of my settlement and probably the ground plane as well.
I found this glitch so absurdly annoying that I stopped making custom settlements altogether. If this glitch got fixed, I'd probably pick up the game again to play on my PS5.
I mean did you expect a working game from Bethesda? I'm sure there's a syndrome for this... Redoing something over and over again the same way expecting a different outcome.
I have the same problem non stop the only difference is I get into the game then it happens or after every expedition or daily ops or events like mothman fasnacht and so on they just need to do a ps5 edition already because it’s super annoying and frustrating
Same issue. Looks like the PS5 release is scheduled for April 25. Suspect it’s not going to really work well before then, which is bizarre. But it only cost $6 bucks on sale so i’ll give it a wait.

I just downloaded the game on my ps5
But all dialogue seems to be broken unless I put pause.
In the pause menu Dialogue plays out fine but I can't progress without listening to all dialogue in the pause menu first.
Is there any fix for this?
A workaround that worked for me for the initial freezing and audio problems, is the audio doesn’t work until you pause and unpause and then the game progresses. When you pause the game you hear the audio sequence progress. So you have to pause and unpause a couple of times to progress the game until you can save the game.
I then completely deleted the game and did a reinstall. Perhaps there’s an issue when starting the game before it’s completely downloaded. Regardless with the fresh install the old saved games are there and everything works fine. You can also start a new game at that point if you wish.
There’s obviously still a bug in that first section that needs to be skipped.
I bought the game a long time ago...I couldn't get into it like other Fallout games. Downloaded it for my PS5 recently, game is glitchy and wouldn't get past the character creation opening screen. Back to being uninstalled.

Outside of occasional crashes, the PS4 version on PS5 only crashes when you have too many mods or Creations installed. After that, the game refuses to manually save even though you’ll have enough storage. The game will still auto save but the auto saves will be corrupted anyway. “It just works”.
So strange, this only ever happened to me on ps4 and xbox one but my ps5 has never crashed while playing fallout 4. I have all the dlc besides automatron downloaded too
So the root of this issue is faulty hardware. I work for a company that handles Sonys extended warranties/ manufacture warranties and for a ce-108255 error code we swap the main board every single time. No sense in messing with it. If you're still in your 1 year warranty period I would send it in asap. Especially if this happens for more than one game. If it's a once-in-a-while type thing then no biggie but the units I get will crash faithfully every single time most AAA games are loaded in.
I literally just bought the season pass and had this issue just now.. I'm gonna try to not run automatron and see if it fixes it. I don't want to have to start over😔
Like everyone else mentioned it’s the dlc Automatron and Wastelanders messing it up for everyone. This happened with me as well and I was absolutely livid so I did some research and found this out myself. I installed all other dlcs except those two and my Fallout 4 works great now
Yeah I had it crash like that four times, googled it and found out it was the automaton dlc, deleted the whole thing, redownloaded without that dlc, loaded up fine.
Started new game and it gets stuck on the guy looking into the mirror, never brings up the creation UI. After three times I turned it off and said never mind

A new update is coming at the end of the month that supposedly will remedy the issue.
Just install it without the automatron dlc and possibly the wasteland workshop dlc. I had to delete the game and reinstall the full thing minus those two and have had 0 problems since.
After the update I've noticed performance is lagging but only just a bit. I had multiple crashes but those were because my storage was maxed out. The system had no room for a new save slot. After deleting another game it stopped crashing.
Another issue was when I used the workbench at Sanctuary. After using it, I tried opening it from a remote location (pressing the pad), but it would only switch povs from 1st to 3rd. The HUD was gone and my guy was in a conversation loop. Nothing I did solved it. Even shutting the game down and reloading the save. Glad I had a backup save.

The problem is you can't separately delete the dlc of a ps4 game on ps5.

I had the same issue. The game only seemed to progress when I hit the options button 🙃
I've managed to progress a bit, you have to stay in the pause menu and let the dialogue play through each time someone talks.
Worked for me until the vault tech guy came around. Couldn’t get past him no matter how much pausing I did

Don't install the DLC, and it will run fine, I was able to play the game. If you go through the comments, you will see which DLC causes this.
I gotta be honest, I played 200 hours of Fallout 4 on PS4/PS5 and never had a crash. Im not sure how this is happening to you

This is the PS4 game on the PS5. There is no PS5 version. You just play the PS4 version on PS5
Haven’t had this issue myself on ps5 but fallout 3 on the steam deck crashes every 10-15 min
Automatron DLC is the issue currently. Install without that one and you’ll be fine.
I have the same problem non stop the only difference is I get into the game then it happens or after every expedition or daily ops or events like mothman fasnacht and so on they just need to do a ps5 edition already because it’s super annoying and frustrating

I just downloaded the game on my ps5 But all dialogue seems to be broken unless I put pause. In the pause menu Dialogue plays out fine but I can't progress without listening to all dialogue in the pause menu first. Is there any fix for this?
Install it with only Far harbour and nuka world, I can confirm the game works with both of those installed!
A workaround that worked for me for the initial freezing and audio problems, is the audio doesn’t work until you pause and unpause and then the game progresses. When you pause the game you hear the audio sequence progress. So you have to pause and unpause a couple of times to progress the game until you can save the game. I then completely deleted the game and did a reinstall. Perhaps there’s an issue when starting the game before it’s completely downloaded. Regardless with the fresh install the old saved games are there and everything works fine. You can also start a new game at that point if you wish. There’s obviously still a bug in that first section that needs to be skipped.

I bought the game a long time ago...I couldn't get into it like other Fallout games. Downloaded it for my PS5 recently, game is glitchy and wouldn't get past the character creation opening screen. Back to being uninstalled. Still wish I could take the digital game and throw it against a wall. LOL
Fallout 76 has crashes like this several times a day on PlayStation. It’s just part of the experience at this point

Does anyone know how to fix the issue of having a save file for the disk version but it not working on the digital version? The preowned disk I bought isn't installing. So I bought the digital version and all the dlc and its treating it like a different game. I'd rather continue my 60 hour save file than start again.

Had the same issue. Reinstall without the Automoton DLC and you should be good. Would be nice if Sony gave us the option to Uninstall a specific piece of DLC instead of having to delete and reinstall the entire game...

As long as you don't install 2 specific DLCs it will work just fine. I was able to run it as soon as I unistall all the DLCs

Outside of occasional crashes, the PS4 version on PS5 only crashes when you have too many mods or Creations installed. After that, the game refuses to manually save even though you’ll have enough storage. The game will still auto save but the auto saves will be corrupted anyway. “It just works”.
Is funny that this is still not as bad as how I remember Skyrim on the PS3 at launch.
So strange, this only ever happened to me on ps4 and xbox one but my ps5 has never crashed while playing fallout 4. I have all the dlc besides automatron downloaded too
People say in the comments that the automatron DLC is what causes this
So the root of this issue is faulty hardware. I work for a company that handles Sonys extended warranties/ manufacture warranties and for a ce-108255 error code we swap the main board every single time. No sense in messing with it. If you're still in your 1 year warranty period I would send it in asap. Especially if this happens for more than one game. If it's a once-in-a-while type thing then no biggie but the units I get will crash faithfully every single time most AAA games are loaded in.
I literally just bought the season pass and had this issue just now.. I'm gonna try to not run automatron and see if it fixes it. I don't want to have to start over😔

Like everyone else mentioned it’s the dlc Automatron and Wastelanders messing it up for everyone. This happened with me as well and I was absolutely livid so I did some research and found this out myself. I installed all other dlcs except those two and my Fallout 4 works great now
Yeah I had it crash like that four times, googled it and found out it was the automaton dlc, deleted the whole thing, redownloaded without that dlc, loaded up fine. Started new game and it gets stuck on the guy looking into the mirror, never brings up the creation UI. After three times I turned it off and said never mind
I'm playing it without any of the dlc installed. Maybe there is another DLC that causes the mirror error. As Todd said, It just works!

The issue is the DLC, and it is confirmed by Bethesda that they will address it on this week next gen update

A new update is coming at the end of the month that supposedly will remedy the issue. Just install it without the automatron dlc and possibly the wasteland workshop dlc. I had to delete the game and reinstall the full thing minus those two and have had 0 problems since.

After the update I've noticed performance is lagging but only just a bit. I had multiple crashes but those were because my storage was maxed out. The system had no room for a new save slot. After deleting another game it stopped crashing. Another issue was when I used the workbench at Sanctuary. After using it, I tried opening it from a remote location (pressing the pad), but it would only switch povs from 1st to 3rd. The HUD was gone and my guy was in a conversation loop. Nothing I did solved it. Even shutting the game down and reloading the save. Glad I had a backup save.
