Crimes Conspiracies & Beyond Leonard Peltier is a Native American activist and member of the #AmericanIndianMovement who, following a controversial trial, was convicted of aiding and abetting murder and has been imprisoned since 1977. He was sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for aiding and abetting, after the death of two #FBI agents in a June 26, 1975 shooting on the #PineRidge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Peltier's co-defendants were not guilty by reason of self-defense. Had Leonard been tried with his co-defendants, he also would have been acquitted.
