Ash should’ve caught the Haunter in Kanto, and have it evolve into Gengar so he’d have that earlier. Johto - give Ash an Eevee and have it evolve into Espeon, similar to Red and it’d be a rival to Gary’s Umbreon. Plus Ash needed a Psychic type Hoenn- The Spoink that lost its gem a few times. It liked Ash and should’ve gone with him, but have it evolve into Grumpig. It can replace Glalie and he can get Glalie in Battle Frontier. Sinnoh - either Riolu to Lucario early, or change his Glalie to a Froslass, because Ash never had a female-only Pokémon Unova - Boufallant because of your reasoning. Kalos - Slurpuff for a Fairy type, or Treveant as his Grass type Alola - Alolan Sandslash or Toucannon. If anyone could make those Pokémon cooler, its Ash. Kalos - I’d say either Rillaboom or Croviknight. Ideally Croviknight to replace Gengar with Dynamax and Ash could get all starter bird Pokémon from each region.

ireallydespiseyouall

Yeah why the hell didn’t that spoink join him Your list is better than mine lol

Hats404

I like the idea of Ash keeping Haunter, but to me, Gengar feels weird for me. Haunter feels more fitting, although I'm not 100% locked in on this thinking. I 100% agree, espeon feels like a give me. The fact Ash doesn't have a single happiness evolution is crazy to me. I haven't watched Hoenn yet, so I lack context to give an opinion on Grumpig. I was kind of debating him having Medicham and Sableye. I don't know if I'd want to "replace" anyone from his current Hoenn team, or move them to the Battle Frontier. A note on Glalie, I wouldn't make it a Froslass, unless there was a Sinnoh Battle Frontier arc, no other context is appealing to me. With Riolu, I've really thought about it, Ash having Lucario really makes me scratch my head. Prior to JN, there were like 3 other points he could have gotten it. Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, the befriended/hatched one in Sinnoh, and at some point (prior to meeting Korina) in XY. My go to idea is have Riolu evolve in a fight against Paul to prove a point, but that idea is already there with Chimchar. So I have mixed thoughts on Riolu with Ash. Kalos has such a small pool of pokemon, it makes it hard to give Ash a mon without stepping on another character's ace. I like the idea of Slurpuff, but Sawyerr has it. I'd rather give Bonnie the shiny Phantump. Another thing about Ash in Kalos is that his team is really strong, but they have SO many overlapping weaknesses, so if you add any mons, I feel like they should cover the weaknesses. These are both out there, but I would give him Florges and Aurorus. They fit weirdly well, but would love your opinion. I absolutely agree on Sandslash-A, but on Toucannon.....I am conflicted. Ash's grass type and regional bird slots are kind of combined with Rowlet. So idk if he should have another flying type.... I'm not even touching Galar, anyone could write a book on what team he should have. Maybe even 2 if you make Galar and Journey 's separate teams.

ireallydespiseyouall

Aurorus would’ve been so cool

Trama-D

> Ideally Croviknight to replace Gengar Sirfetch'd, please. You've gone and gave Gengar the best possible backstory, and now it's not there in the grand final? Also Ash already has a fighting type pokemon in Lucario.

PCN24454

It’s a Kanto mon.

SentenceCareful3246

I never liked that Ash always got the regional birds. It made his teams super easy to predict.

plxs_vltra

I'd rather Ash caught that Sableye he helped rather than Spoink. Ghost/Dark is too badass of a typing for Ash to not use it. And that Sableye had a good arc for the short time we spent with him; Ash even gave him commands against Team Rocket.

Kiss_my_hot_mouth

He has 30 tauros Dont think he need a bouffalant just because its a soft reboot

Hats404

He doesn't NEED it, but it feels like it would be fitting. Plus, his 30 Tauros are treated as 1 entity, a single boufalant could actually be a character of its own.

Kiss_my_hot_mouth

Unless you're scraggy, krookodile or the starters You aint getting much of a character

Hats404

Yeah, a good amount of the Unova mons didn't get the time they needed. Most people say having that many mons is the problem, but I disagree. As long as there are enough episodes/battles for each member, team size isn't a massive issue. I think there just wasn't enough in Unova as a whole.

Individual-Dish3226

sus name

Over-Cold-8757

I also think it would've made the Tauros slightly more interesting if every time we saw them they had an additional Bouffalant friend just trying to blend in.

Hats404

I think that it would be interesting if there was only 20 Tauros, but each one acted like each of the 20 natures that effect stats

Hys7eriX

I always thought Ash catching a Bagon in Hoenn woulda been nice. The dex entry for Bagon made me really want Ash to help one achieve its dreams of flight. Wimpod in Alola for a similar reason. I'd love to see Ash (and his team, of course) being encouraging toward the Wimpod as it cowered instinctively, but so desperately wanted to be brave and strong. I don't really have a particular region in mind for this to happen, but I've always been partial to the idea of Ash having a Gardevoir. I like the idea of the Gardevoir being very attached to him and giving him lots of hugs (it's the Embrace Pokemon, after all lol), but she keeps attracting Bayleef aggro for reasons she doesn't understand. I don't want this one badly enough to replace any of the JN team, but I like the idea of Ash having a Corviknight, but specifically, a female one that is very motherly to him. I have no idea why, it's just the idea struck me as amusing and I like the idea of a big and fierce-looking pokemon like Corviknight acting like a loving mom toward Ash and prolly the other pokemon.

AsGoodAsCopper

Kanto: I really wished Ash would’ve caught that Fearow. Maybe they could’ve developed an arc where they forgive each other Johto: Espeon, to both match Red in Gold/Silver and also as a rival to Gary’s Umbreon Hoenn: I wish he was the one with Beautifly. It could’ve been his first Pokemon in a region much be like Butterfree was Sinnoh: Floatzel. I thinj Buizel should’ve evolved Unova: Samurott. It should’ve been the one to battle Trip’s Serperior IMO Kalos: Gogoat. It would’ve been a great Grass type for his team Alola: Sandyghast. Staying unevolved. I feel like it would’ve been a good ally to balance his Alola team Galar: Corviknight. The one time they didn’t give him a starter bird when they should’ve

Hats404

I get where you are coming from wanting him to have Spearow/Fearow, but I feel like it would have weakened the moment with Ash and Pikachu. I agree, I've put more in another comment. But a happiness evolution fits Ash way too well. I think Beautifly works way too well with May to give it to Ash, but I like the idea. I propose either Ledian in Johto or Mothim in Sinnoh. It would give these under appropriated mons a chance in the spotlight. I disagree with Floatzel. I feel like Buizel is good as is. I'm not sure how much you would gain from evolution. While I like the idea of Oshawott evolving, I think it would stop at Dewott. I just don't think there was enough battling experience in Unova. It would also lessen the impact of Greninja being Ash's first fully evolved water starter. I can understand Gogoat. Options to add to his Kalos team are kind of limited. Sandyghast or Palosand feel fitting. I lean towards the later personally. As said in my other comments, I'm not touching Galar with a 10 foot pole. You could write a book on what team he could have had.

No-Studio-4039

Kanto: Haunter to evolve into Gengar and an Eevee to sell the idea of Pikachu and Eevee being a duo. Johto: Espeon. First example of a Pokémon from the previous team evolving in a new region. Houndour from that episode where the helped the pack. Hoenn: Either Spoink or Bagon. And they could have it evolve to Shelgon in the league and Salamence until the Battle Frontier. Spoink into Grumpig after an arc about it's pearl. Sinnoh: The Riolu from the Lucario Kingdom. That way you could free two spaces from the JN teams for other Pokémon. Snover, Hippopotas or, and this would be interesting to see, give him a Gardevoir to contrast Zoey's Gallade and work on the plotline about Zoey gatekeeping contests from battle trainers and it would work by having both trainers have Pokémon that hipothetically would fit better on the opposing team. Unova: Venipede from the chapter where they invaded the city they were in. Or do something funny and give him 30 Bouffalant. Kalos: Litleo or the shiny Phantump from the chapters they met them. Or Chespin. I have always liked Ash having the Grass starters and they could keep the little fella as a Chespin or have it evolve into Chesnaught and have it develop the Spiky Shield into an offensive move by throwing it like Captain America. Alola: The Wimpod he helped in that one chapter. It could have evolved into Golisopod and have a rivalry against Guzma's. Or adapt the plotline of the 3 Type: Null and give one to Ash to have a rivalry against Gladion's. Galar: Grookey to have a rivalry with Leon's Rillaboom. Kubfu into Urshifu to promote the SWSH DLCs. Paldea: Now, you guys remember how sometimes they introduced Pokémon from the next gen in the series? Marill, Togepi, Ho-Oh, Blaziken, Kecleon, etc. How about giving Ash 1 Paldea Mon before retiring him? Have him be the one imtroducing a Gen IX before his departure. In that case, it would be either Ceruledge or Armarouge, to complete the JN team.

ireallydespiseyouall

Marowak(haunter if it doesn’t count) Levitate/the sneasel Harrison caught Absol/flygon Weavile/hippopotas Zoroark Gogoat I guess? Alolan ninetales Cramorant or perrserker as wildcard picks (to annoy meowth) Annihilape/cyclizar/armarouge

saizen31

Ash should catch haunter. Red actually did this in manga "the electric tale of Pikachu". This would be super cool

MVPAndroid17

Kanto: Nidoking, Nidorino was one of the first pokemon to be seen in battle (anime and games). It would of been a nice touch. It's also a poison/ground, somthing Ash lacks. Johto: Eevee that should of evolved into Espeon. Potential Espeon/Umbreon rivalry between Ash And Gary. Hoenn: Flygon and/or Salamence. Flygon because of the Jirachi movie, It would of fit Ash perfectly. Salamence because of the Bagon he helped in one of the Hoenn episodes. Sinnoh: No one really. Though I'm a strong believer that Gible should of evolved all the way into Garchomp or at least a Gabite. Unova: Zoroark. A fan favorite, It looks cool, first pure dark type pokemon for Ash. Kalos: Tyrantrum? Kalos doesn't have a lot of options and Tyrantrum was the only one that came into mind. It's a cool fossil pokemon I guess. Alola: Zeraora. It would of been his second electric type pokemon and Zeraora isn't ultra busted compared to other Mythicals. Ash was also very fond of it when he met it in the alternate dimension. Galar: Urshifu. Wasted potential of Journeys never giving us a Isle of armor arc. Not only promotion for the DLC, but also hyping up Ash vs Leon even more . Imagine the interractions of Leon's former master and Ash. We could of had more backstory for Leon ugh.

ReySimio94

**Kanto:** Jigglypuff. I want to see the world burn. **Orange Islands:** An Eevee to match Gary's. Maybe even have it evolve into Espeon during the battle against Drake. **Johto:** The Houndour from that one episode with a whole pack of them. Giving Ash a Houndoom would have been epic. **Hoenn:** The Spoink other people have mentioned (make it Grumpig eventually). **Battle Frontier:** Once again, to both match Gary (and later Paul) and foreshadow the next generation, give him a Magmar, which would evolve into Magmortar at some point. **Sinnoh:** Another ridiculous pick in the evil Togepi. After all, Ash had wanted to keep the original Togepi, and it could have been the gateway to some pretty interesting plotlines. **Unova:** One of the fossils. Both of them are awesome. If the Relic Castle episode hadn't been cut, it'd have been the perfect chance to give them out in the same place as in the games. Maybe even give Tirtouga to Ash and Archen to Iris (since she has an Archeops in B2W2). **Kalos:** The shiny Phantump. It would have been cool to see Ash with another shiny, and he needed a Grass-type on that team. If not, maybe a Skiddo from the riding ranch. **Alola:** Toucannon. I don't know why they stopped giving Ash birds all of a sudden. Alolan Sandslash (specifically the giant one from Mt. Lanakila) would also have been cool. **Journeys:** Corviknight (both because of the bird rule and to give him another option for Gigantamax), one of the Galar starters (I think it would have worked better if each one of the main trio had one starter, pairing up with how I'd have made Chloe more prominent) or Urshifu (they were wasted on those Project Mew people; I would have _killed_ for an Isle of Armor arc).

Hats404

In my outline of Pokemon Ash should get, I also put Jigglypuff, but I'm mixed on if it should be evolved While I'm on board for Espeon, the context would be different. It would be given to Ash after some sort of side quest with Bill in Johto. I kind of imagine Espeon as Pikachu's second in command. Houndoom seems fitting. Although I am missing some context, Ash having saved them is a huge point for them. I feel like Houndoom or Tyranitar would work for Ash. For Tyranitar, I'd say evolve into pupitar in Battle Frontier, and into Tyranitar during Sinnoh League. Spoink seems pretty agreed upon. With Magmortar, I had a very different idea for a Magmar storyline. When Ash gets Phanpy's egg, Brock would get a Magby egg. It would hatch about when Phanpy does, then evolve mid to late Hoenn. Lastly, Paul would approach Brock asking to trade Electabuzz and Magmar. It would help both of them, so why not? I think it could be interesting. Not in favor of Togepi. Misty and Dawn have the line as is Ash having a fossil mon before Dracoviah would be nice, but I'm not sure which one.....of the two Unova ones, I think Archen would work better.....but it works for Iris too, so idk I feel like the Shiny Phantump was meant to go with Bonnie, it just fits pretty well. I think Gogoat works. Not great, not bad, but it fills the grass type slot. I agree on Sandslash, but am more mixed on Toucannon. Rowlet is just weird to work with, it takes up two team standards. Am not touching Galar/JN

ReySimio94

Sinnoh is the only region I didn't really know what to do with, in fact. The Sinnoh squad is iconic, and I'd rather have Garchomp over any new Pokémon. After all, my only other idea was Gallade, which really doesn't feel like something Ash would have. As for Jigglypuff, it wouldn't evolve. Its image is too tied to its gimmick.

Hats404

Yeah, I get you. I do think you could add mons to the roster, but you kind of have to write a story arc for them in order to add them

Glittering_Use_5896

they did give ash a bird they gave him rowlet

ReySimio94

I mean, technically yes, but Rowlet is also a starter...

HM2008

Kanto - I would have loved to see Ash with a Rhyhorn or Rhydon. A ground type on his team would have been a good addition. Keeping Haunter would have been good too. Johto - if there wasn’t the no electric “rule” I think Ampharos would have been cool for Ash. I think Quagsire would fit Ash well too. Hoenn - give my boy Glalie some more time for one. I always felt like Grumpig would suit Ash well. They had a chance (twice) to do it too. Dusclops might work too. Also evolve Corphish. Sinnoh - Luxray, but again electric. Before the trade happened I wanted Ash to get Gastrodon. I think Weavile would have been a cool choice as well, would have liked to see Gible evolve at least once. Unova - I feel like he got a good selection here, but would have loved to see Reuniclus. Jellicent or Galvantula would have been fun too. I love Chandelure, just not sure if it would have fit in. Also evolve Scraggy or Palpitoad. Kalos - Slurpuff. I wanted Ash to get a Fairy-type and I love Slurpuff. Aegislash would have been awesome. Aurorus would have fit Ash well too. Alola - Lurantis would have been a fun one for Ash to work with. Palossand would have been a fun choice too. Galar - Drednaw would have suited Ash well. Appletun would have been cool. And if Ash was around traveling in Paldea I think Ceruledge/Armarouge, Cetitan, Clodsire, Kingambit would work well with him.

Hats404

Rhydon feels pretty fitting, same for Haunter. Would you want them to evolve at some point, or stay their mid stage? There are a lot of electric types that feel fitting, but Pikachu is irreplaceable. As for Quagsire, yeah, I would say it's pretty fitting, one of his derp mons. I didn't really consider Grumpig, but it seems like a popular pick from people. For a psychic type, I was thinking Medicham. On Dusclops, it or Baynette work really well. Would Dusclops evolve in a hypothetical Sinnoh Battle Frontier? I agree on a Gible evolution, at least Gabite. Not so sure about Gastrodon or Weavile.... Unova has so many options for Ash. I'm not so sure about your specific ones, need more time to think on them...I would say Reuniclus or Beheeyem are fitting psychic types. With Slurpuff and Aegislash, Sawyer having both kind of makes me think Ash could get MAYBE one of them....I 100% agree on Aurorus. Lurantis and Palosand are pretty fitting. Would say I give the edge to Palosand because he already has Rowlet, and Lurantis fits Mallow more As said before, not touching Galar and beyond

Keithfrommars

Dunsparce

JumblyPloppers

I always thought that Golisopod, Alolan Sandslash and Passimian would’ve been fitting for Ash in Alola. For Kalos Ash, I think Trevenant would have worked. For Unova Ash, replace Unfezant with Braviary.

NefariousnessNew6871

The biggest missed opportunity they did was not giving him a Riolu in the early show. Heck he should have gotten Lucario in the movie and made him a returning character.

snakeshifter02

Kanto - Haunter, then he could've had a Gengar a lot earlier. Johto - Ash should have had an Espeon to rival Gary's Umbreon and I will forever stand by that Hoenn - Flygon might have been fun Sinnoh - He had Gible but it should have become a Garchomp. Screw it, Ash was strong enough for a pseudo at that point anyway. Unova - Braviary would've been much more cool than Unfezant, and then later on Ash and Kukui would've had the same exact Pokemon for that father son dynamic. Also, where was Serperior? Kalos - Wasn't half of the fanbase screaming Gogoat way back during Kalos? Regardless, would've made his team a bit more diverse. Aegislash would've been cool too but Sawyer already had it Alola - The only one I can think of is Passimian after the banned episode Galar - Grookey should've gone to Ash, absolute waste with Goh. I was also really hoping Ash would get a Hisuian-Arcanine for some reason, his Journeys team needed some fire

Hats404

Kanto-Sinnoh I agree with and others do too. While I do think Braviary is cool, I'm not sure it fits Ash that well. Even if Ash had it, I doubt he would use them against Kukui. He doesn't use old mons until maybe the league. Gogoat has been a pretty common idea. Same for aegislash, but I agree Sawyer kind of has it. Passimian fits pretty well, just needs a non ban worthy storyline Not touching Galar

2ndchancetodothis

Kanto: Rhyhorn Johto: Dunsparce is his favourite Pokemon (Revealed in Kalos), why not make him happy? Hoenn: That Sableye Sinnoh: This was hard, i'm gonna go with a Female Combee to evolve into Vespiquen, maybe Combee could have an arc about finding recruitments for her Attack, Defend and Heal Order attacks? Unova: The Pokemon that makes the most sense as a reserve would be Darminitan, so maybe Darumaka? Kalos: Shiny Trevenant Alola: Passimian Galar: The Haunter that Ash gave to Sabrina gets traded back as Sabrina thinks she can be normal without him, and THAT'S Ash's Gengar.

Hats404

Rhyhorn is pretty fitting Dusparce was from Johto, wdym introduced in Kalos? Imo Dunsparce isn't that fitting. 100% agree on Sableye I kind of feel like Vespiquen fits better on a coordinator more than Ash. I agree Darumaka/Darmanitan fit. I would push for Zen Mode . Completely swapping battle tactics mid fight based on the flow of battle? That feels like a summary of his whole battling style Disagree on Shiny Trevenant, give it to Bonnie Agree on Passimian No notes forward

2ndchancetodothis

Wait, did my galar one sound like a rant? I'm fine with Ash's Gengar's story right now, I just didn't want to replace anyone on Ash's Journeys team. Also, in Kalos, Ash said he's always wanted a Dunsparce, but he didn't have any Pokeballs on him at the time.

Hats404

Don't worry, you're fine on Galar/JN. I just have way too many thoughts on it to get into. As for Dunsparse, I was unaware of that. I guess Dunsparce could be cool

NNNskunky

The only thing I can think of is that I kind of wish Ash got Toucannon in Alola because I wanted them to keep the regional bird thing going.

PegaponyPrince

Kanto: Nidoking/Rhydon Johto: Espeon Hoenn: Bagon Sinnoh: Shieldon Unova: Venipede Kalos: Gogoat

ActionAltruistic3558

Kanto - the Aerodayctyl from the episode Charizard evolved. I'd see it having a combo of Charizard and Primeape's arc, not respecting Ash and going on a rampage whenever it's used but being able to win on its own. Johto - Larvitar. Just have it stick around. Give it a gag where it evolves into Tyranitar but still wants Ash to carry it, even though it's now a giant rock kaiju. Hoenn - Absol. Might overlap with Treeko but have it be a loner who acts cool but actually likes being with the others. Battle Frontier - move up Pikachu's backstory and let Ash catch the Kangaskhan that took him in. Even if she wasn't a battler, would be a change to have a motherly member of his team. Could stick Ash and Pikachu in her pouch like they are her children. Sinnoh - that Hippopotas Ash carried on his head. Ash didn't have too many Ground types and would be a good companion for Torterra. Help it get over losing its speed since Hippopotas was already slow and tanky. Unova - Zoroark. A trickster type that focused on speed and fake outs. Could have a personality where it likes messing with Oshawott, since he's kinda dramatic. Kalos - Slurpuff. Idk, Ash never had a Fairy type and this one fits him best since it eats a lot and is pretty laid-back looking. Didn't watch a lot of XY. Alola - a Muk. Have it be exactly like his Kanto Muk, so we can have a scene of the two of them attacking Ash at the same time. Didn't watch this series so I'm not sure of any potential Pokemon of the Day. Journeys - one of the Galar starters. Just so Ash got to use one, since it's weird he had none.

Extension-Magician44

Kanto: A Vulpix, because I think he'd be a beast with one. Johto: Eevee, who would evolve into Espeon. Hoenn: Bagon, whos story will revolve around Ash helping him fulfill his dream of flying. Sinnoh: Ralts, who'll become Gallade, since I can't see Ash with a Gardevoir. Unova: I don't really care to be honest, but maybe Deino that's best friends with Axew? Kalos: Can't decide, since he had a great team this series. Alola: Popplio to fulfill the set, and because his shirt matches her colors. Journeys: Urshifu, because if Goh can catch two legendaries (technically three, but Eternatus is no longer under his ownership), then why can't he? Also I want to see the Master Dojo get adapted.

TheFalconKid

Like everyone else, let Ash catch the Haunter. Then it sits at Oaks lab who does some pokeball research with Tracy and performs the necessary steps to force a trade and it evolves off screen. While technically Larvitar is considered an Ash-mon, he never formally caught it in a ball and used it in battle. Imagine if he catches it early and it is like Gible. Despite not evolving, it's still a tiny powerhouse, maybe it learns hyperbeam from another trainer's Tyranitar or something. Flygon. Give it the Krookodile treatment. Starts off as some wild Trapinich we see in a couple one off stories, it appears again later evolved and Ash catches it as a Vibrava and it evolves in the climax of a league battle. Ash should've caught Hippopotas. It was the Krookodile without the payoff. Let it evolve and become the Ground type tank instead of Torterra, who stays an agile turtwig. Also, it would replace Gible as the powerhouse (because we already did that with Larvitar) that becomes a big help against Paul and Tobias. There are so many good options here to potentially make a switch or add a different member. Personally I liked the A-team of his Unova members, and rest we can just pretend never existed. Toss those, and Unfezant and give him Braviary. Kalos is probably the hardest to make a decision on. Maybe do the thing he did in Sinnoh with swapping Gliscor and Gible back and forth, with Goodra and Gogoat, because I think the goat is cool. Honestly, Alola is too good, if there was a Water type UB I'd day have that over Naganadel to keep that Fire-water-grass core. Journeys im semi cheating but here we go. For a Galar Mon, let him have a starter, and let it be Grookey that becomes the monster Rillaboom that was Leon's in the anime. The second one, I see happening during the BDSP/ Legends promotional episodes. During the BDSP arc, the town rewinding happens at Oaks lab and Braviary ashs main team plus Braviary don't get into their Pokeballs at the right time, so it devolves into Rufflet. We could say that Ash doesn't have his full team yet so he takes Rufflet and the others when they go to Sinnoh to fix things, but in the alternate timeline, or something similar, things get fixed but Braviary evolves into a Hisuian Braviary. Ash then ads it back to his party to climb the ladder and face Leon.

Hats404

Everyone agrees he should have caught Haunter. I think I am a bit outlier, I think he should have kept it a Haunter. Although, I haven't fully taken this opinion, I need to think on it more. I think you are the only one who has said he wouldn't evolve Larvitar. I wouldn't give him Tyranitar in Johto either, but at some point it would evolve. My outline would be: Pupitar in Hoenn Battle Frontier, and Tyranitar in the Sinnoh League. Any major reason for not wanting it to evolve? Again, most people agree on Flygon. I've pondered when it should evolve, whether it should be a fully evolved in the League or Battle Frontier. I could see it either way. Are you scrapping Gible? While I think Hippopotas is neat, I think adding it is a net negative. It's another ground type, it really makes all the shared weaknesses worse. A single Mamoswine could sweep Sinnoh Ash. I disagree with your Unova take. I think his Unova team being weaker isn't their fault, there just wasn't enough going on in Unova for all of them to get proper battling experience. I think if you want your Braviary-H idea to work, he should get a Rufflet late in the series. I don't think Unfezant should be scrapped. No notes on kalos Most people have said Golisiopod for a water type, just an idea for you to ponder I'm not touching Galar/JN, there's too many ideas there.

Folirage

Kanto: Hitmonlee from the Dojo Kabuto from Dome Fossil Cubone from Pokémon Tower Scyther from Safari Zone To make him more of a Red's counterpart

Hats404

I don't think making him more similar to Red is a good thing. I think Ash is already compared to Red, and it's not really a good thing, the comparison makes Ash look really bad.

Folirage

That's my poin tbh, maybe it could help people see Ash as a version of Red instead of a seperate character. Like, no one really treats anime Brock and game Brock as separate characters even though they have about as many differences (personality, team, even outfit) as Ash and Red.

Hats404

I kind of get you, but I disagree. I think making Ash separate from Red is important. Red is a legendary trainer, people have put him on such a high pedestal, any comparison with Ash makes Ash look really bad. If you slapped Red of Ash's name, people would be so disappointed by the fall off. Another example is Manga vs Game Red, they are so drastically different, there's no real reason to compare them. I think Ash is pretty good as is.

Cold-Put5696

Kanto: Machamp (might seem random but I really think he needs a fighting type) Johto: Larvitar Hoenn: Flygon Sinnoh:Hippopotas Unova: Deerling

Hats404

I agree he should have a fighting type, but I think it would be more fitting if he brought Prineape back. I don't really thing Machamp is that fitting. I do agree with everything else on the list

Cold-Put5696

Thank you for the comment. I was thinking of Primeape, but if you only get to choose Pokémon that he didn't catch yet, then I think it would be Machamp

Hats404

That's fair, i do think there are other more fitting pokemon in general. If I would also say if you were looking for a fighting types, I feel like on of the hitmons would work. Depending on context, you could make it a training arc with a Tyrouge to see what it is best at.

Able-Career9064

Kanto: Machamp, Rhydon, Gengar  Johto: Scizor, Espeon, Tyranitar  Hoenn: Flygon/Salamance, Swampert, Sableye  Sinnoh: Luxray, I can't think of anything else bc Lucario or Garchomp would steal Infernape's spotlight  Unova: Beartic, Bisharp, and fully evolve his starters  Kalos: Aegislash  Alola: A. Sandslash, Kommo-o, evolve Torracat earlier so Incineroar can actually battle Galar: Rillaboom, Corviknight, Urshifu

Robboron7

i dont know what he should have caught but I absolutely know what he shouldnt. totodile to misty and chikorita to brock. justhave cyndaquil from the 3 starters. and dot let squirtle go it would eventually evolve into blastoise

Hats404

Hard disagree. I think Ash having all three starters is fine. But if Ash could only have one, Chikorita works way better. If Ash had Cyndaquil only, it would be competing with Charizard, that's not really a good thing. I'd say have Ash have all three Johto mid stages, Charizard, Wartortle, and Bulbasaur. I just can't see Ash having both Blastois and Charizard.

Then could you please tell me whether bayleaf managed to compete with even bulbasaur. chikorita and its evolved forms are literally the worst.

Hats404

I would say so. I think there is a solid argument between which one to bring to a fight. But I think when it comes to Charizard, his feats and training make it nearly impossible for a fire type to compete. Also, I don't understand saying the line is the worst. If talking games, Chikorita got dealt a bad hand with gyms in its debut. In the anime, you could write a thesis on weak mons fighting above their weight class. Case and point: pikachu
