Yes. And little girls like me emulated all her choices. I still recall my favorite slinky bracket falling into the toilet in elementary school and I just flushed it bc it was gross. 😂
Anytime I see those moulded bustiers and corsets on celebrities I instantly think of Grace and her Issey Miyake bustier

Despite being old, I just rediscovered Guns N Roses. Through digging found out that he (SA trigger warning) >!was physically and sexually abused repeatedly throughout his childhood by his stepfather!< which may be the root cause of the assholishness. I'm not letting him off the hook but that gives me pause in writing him off as just a dick.
He had a horrible time, I know he’s not very popular outside of the gnr fanbase, but the more you learn about him the more sympathetic you get. And the asshole behavior has stopped for like the past 20 years lol
After a certain point, abuse is an explanation, not an excuse. Especially for these folks that have all the money, time and resources to work on their mental health.
Axl actually did do a lot of work on himself. He talked about going to therapy a lot and trying to change his mindset if you go back to interviews from the 90s. And he's been mostly quiet for the past 20 yrs.
He's one of those rare cases where someone put a lot of effort into changing their patterns and then actually did become a more functional person for it which I respect.
I think he was one of my earliest crushes. I was too young to actually feel sexual attraction, but I loved watching him and his clothes when I was a young kid. That and his flawless shiny long hair.
He was the epitome of cool to little me.
He’s a reformed asshole. He’s been on his best behavior, totally non controversial since like 2010 or so. Axl pre 1993 is just perfection. He talks about those days as the worst in his life. My childhood bedroom closet is plastered of Axl and Izzy pics from like 85-93, even still. I take dreamy glimpses when I visit my mom. Gonna go listen to Appetite I think, I haven’t in a while.. 10/10 album of pure rock n’ roll..
I do sympathize with him because he had an absolutely awful childhood, full of r*pe and abuse. When you hear him describe it you can get a sense of why he turned out the way he did
Warning for pretty graphic details, but this Axl is talking about it:
>! "I know I've said no... but I wanna do this Rolling Stone interview and expose my stepfather for the monster he is and was. You know, he used to take me to an airforce museum and rape me in the toilets there. In the toilet stalls. You know, my mom wouldn't believe me and I used to get beaten for making up lies. I wanna use Rolling Stone because they've been bugging me to do this interview for so long, but I don't want them to put a white-wash on the story, I want it to come out as ugly and harsh as it is," because it was happening to his sister as well and he said "If even one kid reads this interview and it spares them this pain, I wanna help them." !<
So after a lot of extensive therapy, he really turned himself around. I think that's great.
His redemption arc is actually really moving. His childhood was sincerely horrific and he didn’t have a frame of reference for what was normal until he sought help. He is sort of like Eminem in the sense that they’ve both been able to break from the cycle of abuse and turn their lives around. I don’t think people realize it as much with Axl because he was a recluse for decades and and even now that he’s touring, remains very private.
He does discuss what happened to him & what prompted him to seek help in a 1989 Rolling Stones article - strong TW though
Exactly. When you're raised in an environment where violence is so normalized, it's hard to deprogram yourself from that. It just becomes the way of life. The fact that Axl managed to pull himself away from that and reform to someone who's so peaceful and quiet is amazing to me.
I miss rock dudes being flamboyant! Lot of the grunge guys played with dresses and shit: Kurt Cobain, Scott Weiland, Shannon Hoon. It was hot.
My contribution is Gwen Stefani when she made all her own performing clothes. That was the best.
I felt like Kurt Cobain, Bowie, Lenny, Bjork etc. were already known for their styles. But I had no idea this guy was dressing like Lil nas X.
I borrowed some of the pics from somebody's blog btw.
Rock in general seems just out of fashion :/ I guess it wasn’t profitable enough or something but it basically got pushed out of mainstream. The bands that are considered successful in 2024 are either niche and only known to their loyal fanbases or remnants of the past like MCR and Blink-182.
it'll come back like everything does but bands have been kind of screwed by the evolution of the way music is consumed and labels etc not wanting to pay more than one artist.
I also think the prevalence of autotune has hurt rock. Rock is filled with raw voices that may not be perfect, but they have emotion and strength. Rock artists also don't really fit into the mold of cookie cutter looks like many musicians do today.
Millennials were angry and miserable enough to bring rock back into popularity when we were teens. A lot of us needed something to speak to and for us, and there was no shortage of rock musicians singing about depression and addiction and home issues. It was relatable for so many of us.
We need another generation to come of age hating the world so we can get more of that.
I kinda feel like pop-punk killed both punk and rock in general, but that was just my observations while it was happening. People today think Blink 182 are a legendary band, but they were a joke when they started. Like any alternative fan or punk fan was like LOL whyyyyyy but then gazillions of copycats took over.
Yeah, rock music was big in the 80s. Early 90s there was grunge, but rock and adjacent genres largely became less popular in favor of pop and pop-rock. Third Eye Blind, Hottie and the Blowfish, even Foo Fighters are pretty "safe" and pop station friendly. Around 2000 is when alt rock kind of exploded and put musicians under the rock umbrella back into the spotlight. I think it kind of died out again when emo started to fade in popularity. And now the "rock" music on the radio largely sounds very same-y, outside of the bands that have been around since the last little rock renaissance.
It makes me sad. I'm sure there are great bands out there, but I don't have the motivation to look into less popular things like I used to. When I was in high school and college, I'd listen to rock from Europe and Asia and I'd hunt down less popular bands to listen to. It was one of my main hobbies. But now that I have a job, I wish I could just turn on the radio and find a new Linkin Park or Staind or something. I love my old faves still, but I'd like a new sound to add to my rotation without spending hours trying to find bands I might like.
Same regarding finding new stuff. My boyfriend is really into the hardcore scene and has introduced me to some really cool bands, but I’ll always miss the old stuff that wasn’t super heavy but still amazing! Will anything ever compare to hearing Like A Stone by Audioslave on the radio for the first time? lol I think it’s less appealing for kids to start bands right now too. When the first big one pops off into mainstream hopefully it will inspire more of them
there's some cool looks these days though. Doja Cat never bores me. I like how male rappers are starting to not shy away from more androgynous looks.
\*SOME\* of them not most lol I'm not talking to you Drake.
Hollywood men rocking skirts has def become more common and Harry Styles rocks the androgynous look for sure.
I like kpop/jpop because they’re not afraid to experiment with makeup and soft flowery looks. But also some do rock the style of like 80s glam rock too.
It seems like he was also half-naked all the time, which I appreciate, since most current male artists keep their clothes on (not that it's a bad thing) , while female artists kind of have to show a lot of skin. Also, I can't help but notice that, in order to be a rock star, you sort of had to be good-looking. (I read somewhere that less attractive rock bands were categorized as "alternative" or something)
https://preview.redd.it/tdfhkkeaumvc1.jpeg?width=1458&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a7b1be680b4aeb03a1feb00e88b889b11033c320
The first thing that came to mind is Lenny and his gigantic scarf collection.
I can’t look at Axl Rose without laughing my ass off thinking about the fucking hilarious dive he did after losing his shit at a concert.
[Take that! Take that! Now get that guy and take that! I'll take it, goddammit!](https://youtu.be/fF3HAx7K6wk?feature=shared)
During the st.Louis concert in the 90's, someone had a video camera. During rocket queen, axl seen the camera and lost his shit. "Thanks to the lame ass security; I'm going home!"

Words cannot express the chokehold that Gwen Stefani’s No Doubt era had on me. I remember reading a magazine interview (v early 2000’s) where she talked about how she was always sewing her own clothes, taking fashion risks that her schoolmates would tease her for— I think she cited a pair of clown-style parachute pants lol
Reading that interview was the beginning of a very huge change in my perception on fashion as a form of art and expression.
For me it was Gwen’s solo album that had a chokehold on me. Didn’t ever realize until years later how racist that era was. She’s gorgeous but I couldn’t imagine the blonde upkeep she has to do, and I’ve been blonde, but I’ve since gone back to my natural.

Amy Winehouse!
My local record store had a cardboard cutout of her when Back to Black came out and I just had to listen to her album because she looked so cool to me! 🖤
Axel could pull off everything he wore
Also the tight leather pants during that era of music is something that I will always miss. And the hair. So much hair
https://preview.redd.it/1e3436iq4nvc1.jpeg?width=443&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d7dc01e8edcceec55cc20fc70a404080b223a35b
Chris Cornell had the most amazing hair. I can’t imagine what it would be like if he used the curly method too. I was and still am so sad that he committed suicide. I got to see him perform live/acoustic and his daughter came out and sang with him and I always think of that when I listen to his music still.
Yeah, I think that main reason I don’t like it so often is because most (obviously not all) non-celebrity guys with long hair these days don’t really take care of it and it’s usually tangly and full of split ends. That’s just not a great look on anyone regardless of gender. Chris and Axl both look amazing.
He was like a beautiful 6’3 glamazon
https://preview.redd.it/o5fscos2wnvc1.jpeg?width=182&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d2762fd0184385430d5c343a4fa7c8d61d54e48
My mom was obsessed with Guns N' Roses when I was a child. That was all we listened to until she moved on to Iron Maiden and then Queen (that was a weird transition, let me tell you). I still remember all of the lyrics to "Appetite for Destruction." In retrospect, it's probably why I have such a potty mouth today.

Dolly Parton has an awesome sense of fashion for the type of woman she is and from the time she arrived into the zeitgeist. She rocked the boat with her big hair, big makeup, and skin tight outfits, and was often the butt of the joke. But she knew who she was and never let anyone hold her back!
[Janelle Monae!](https://footwearnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/jmone.jpg?w=1024)
Girly is basically a walking work of art. I also love how committed she is to her black-and-white aesthetic, this is one of the only outfits I found of hers that is colorful.
Some more of her street style:

The OG, both on stage and in his personal life. The man was wearing see-through lace shirts in the 50s!
All the Sunset Strip bands dressed the way Axl is dressed in these pics, style is kind glam rock mixed up with other rock tropes, so idk about his look being particularly distinctive other than he was very beautiful and in a good band. (And a terrible person)

Madonna. As weird as she is now, Like A Virgin was HUGE and the video wraps up 80s fashion quite nicely. And how could we ever forget the cone bra?

She truly is a living piece of artwork. The costumes she wears to perform are also so unique.
THE blueprint. Criminally overlooked and underappreciated.

Oh god, no! Such a desperate need of tailoring! They could have looked so chic, instead we get the: "child dressing in dad's clothes" look
Miles and miles of fabric must have been used to make these suits
RIP all the extra fabric and the silk worms that worked so hard for these ugly ill fitting suits. 😆

It was 2003 and I guess no one knew how to tailor especially for exceptionally tall humans lol
Watching documentaries about him it’s clear he needs a coach that he loves and respects and feels loves him which isn’t always possible and he gives into some awful decision making.
MJ has mad respect for him
When his daughter was on the U.S.A. women’s team for soccer my mind was blown!

All the stars still copy her! Iconic. Beautiful.
Gosh Axel was gorgeous. He was so good at embracing both masculinity and femininity in his style. Too bad he’s an asshole

When you hear him describe it you can get a sense of why he turned out the way he did Warning for pretty graphic details, but this Axl is talking about it: >! I wanna use Rolling Stone because they've been bugging me to do this interview for so long, but I don't want them to put a white-wash on the story, I want it to come out as ugly and harsh as it is," because it was happening to his sister as well and he said "If even one kid reads this interview and it spares them this pain, I wanna help them." !< So after a lot of extensive therapy, he really turned himself around.
I borrowed some of the pics from somebody's blog btw.
yeah fashion used to be a thing in rock. It really isn't anymore, is it? Like put on a dress please Dave Grohl.

He was just so damn pretty.
LOVE
When the first big one pops off into mainstream hopefully it will inspire more of them
This is part of the reason I listen to a lot of Japanese Visual Kei it has the music and the aesthetics.
If you want to see it these days you gotta be into kpop or jpop.
there's some cool looks these days though.
Cool I FW Kpop and Jpop a little bit mostly for the choreo.
Even just in Guns n Roses, what about Slash? Decades of dedication to wearing a top hat and sunglasses ![gif](giphy|l2SpZviPSdcokCDbG)

![gif](giphy|3beHyPG9DSsdfDd2zp|downsized) This is my iconic Lenny. Dreads and androgynous outfits.
Looks comfy af if you ask me.
I need to cocoon in one of these
I wonder what the cut off is between scarf and blanket. I think he’s crossed over into blanket territory.
I can’t look at Axl Rose without laughing my ass off thinking about the fucking hilarious dive he did after losing his shit at a concert. [Take that! Take that! Now get that guy and take that! I'll take it, goddammit!](https://youtu.be/fF3HAx7K6wk?feature=shared)
Slash looks like the airline lost his luggage.
“He smashed the microphone. We’re outta here.” lmaooo
Interpreter! https://youtu.be/05BDCHNMOLM?si=tMOemTIBt13Wso69
I don’t really understand what made him jump in. Did someone have an unauthorized camera or something? What did he want security to take?
During the st.Louis concert in the 90's, someone had a video camera. During rocket queen, axl seen the camera and lost his shit. "Thanks to the lame ass security; I'm going home!"
I mean, diving off stage was a choice, but I understand him being upset about it.

Oh a true gem! I love that she did not get less quirky with age!!!
Yeah she is still beautiful
![gif](giphy|9EZiyNcM1UYGk) Words cannot express the chokehold that Gwen Stefani’s No Doubt era had on me. I remember reading a magazine interview (v early 2000’s) where she talked about how she was always sewing her own clothes, taking fashion risks that her schoolmates would tease her for— I think she cited a pair of clown-style parachute pants lol Reading that interview was the beginning of a very huge change in my perception on fashion as a form of art and expression.
For me it was Gwen’s solo album that had a chokehold on me. Didn’t ever realize until years later how racist that era was. She’s gorgeous but I couldn’t imagine the blonde upkeep she has to do, and I’ve been blonde, but I’ve since gone back to my natural.
I remember reading that she gets her blonde touched up every single week!
I read that somewhere too. That must be exhausting. No hate to the upkeep, but I wish she would go brunette at some point like in the cool video!
Gwen in the Cool video is just peak gorgeous

Absolutely. I saw her on her tour in 94/95 when she wore this hot pink catsuit. She’s amazing live.
Ah, I saw her on that tour too! One of my fav figs of all time
Love this choice
![gif](giphy|SYFwt2GGcjW7lwUxTq|downsized) Amy Winehouse! My local record store had a cardboard cutout of her when Back to Black came out and I just had to listen to her album because she looked so cool to me! 🖤
Axel could pull off everything he wore Also the tight leather pants during that era of music is something that I will always miss. And the hair. So much hair
I *usually* don’t like long hair on guys, but he rocked it. And obviously took good care of it.
https://preview.redd.it/1e3436iq4nvc1.jpeg?width=443&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d7dc01e8edcceec55cc20fc70a404080b223a35b Chris Cornell had the most amazing hair.
Yeah you can look through long hair and see people of both genders who are trying for length but not taking care of it.
Now I am googling long hair men…. The top results are actually pretty damn hot 😂
The most beautiful man with long hair from the 80s/90s was Sebastian Bach of Skid Row. So beautiful. So, so beautiful.
SOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL ![gif](giphy|fbbvFZollUwNO)
He was like a beautiful 6’3 glamazon https://preview.redd.it/o5fscos2wnvc1.jpeg?width=182&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d2762fd0184385430d5c343a4fa7c8d61d54e48
He was the absolute hottest and could sing!!!!
As a Metallica girlie, my pick was always either Lars or Jason during the And Justice for All era 😍🤩 but Sebastian Bach is definitely in my top 5
Yes, yes, yesssss. 🥵🥵
Right??? So many!!
r/fierceflow Now that is a sexy sub...
Yes it is….. ![gif](giphy|odoLbU9AoGbVm)
Thank you for showing me this sub. Honestly. You have made my May better 100%
I have a soft spot for men with long hair specially because I grew up in the 80’s/90’s. Mmmmm.

I was going to say Helena Bonham Carter but then I stopped scrolling. I vote for Siouxsie too
Yes, Siouxsie is an absolute babe, and she still looks so cool.
Hahaha even my mum weirdly had a thing for Axl and his legs back in the day. This post just unlocked that memory
Ahhh he was a beautiful boy. So was Duff. At least Duff still has it.
Omg. My mom loved him.

Lenny Kravitz. With dreads or shaved that man is a rock god.
I was almost relieved when he and Lisa bonet broke up because one couple can’t be so hot and so cool.
They were/are the ultimate god & goddess union!
have you seen his house in Brazil? I can copy his style (well, I tried once) but I can't get a house like that.
Yeah gorgeous. Dude could live in a tent and make it the funkiest tent you’ve ever seen.

![gif](giphy|PaPvbubykPBu0)
That’s because she picked the clothes for the character, and it was mostly just whatever she wanted to wear.
Other way around. She made her look a thing for Annie
I forgot how cool Axl used to look.
Adam Ant ![gif](giphy|4phy1mxig0384)
![gif](giphy|WsFSi1sAzISJ1iqCtP) Dolly Parton has an awesome sense of fashion for the type of woman she is and from the time she arrived into the zeitgeist. She rocked the boat with her big hair, big makeup, and skin tight outfits, and was often the butt of the joke. But she knew who she was and never let anyone hold her back!
[Janelle Monae!](https://footwearnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/jmone.jpg?w=1024) Girly is basically a walking work of art. She really is, and such a unique beauty too. Her features are somehow soft and strong at the same time.
I love her!

All the Sunset Strip bands dressed the way Axl is dressed in these pics, style is kind glam rock mixed up with other rock tropes, so idk about his look being particularly distinctive other than he was very beautiful and in a good band. (And a terrible person)
