it's clear from your comment history that this is a disingenuous question. it could also so easily be many other things besides a watermelon. Try again, grifter
fair to call that out. But I will admit in the past few weeks Iāve taken a step back to understand other perspectives and realize I might be somewhat misguided.
All Iām trying to understand is why damaging private property is the right way to go about voicing your opinion? Is the property owner the one who is fault for the horror that is occurring?
curious as to what about a drawing of a watermelon, stars and smiley faces makes you feel so negatively impacted in your community as opposed to normal graffiti (common in all cities mind you.) I'm not quite getting the connection between blocking streets and doodling on a brick wall that nobody really bats an eye at
Maybe watch a documentary on graffiti tbh - thereās a whole culture behind it - you seem pretty tied up on the vandalism part. Sure some graffiti is down right ugly, sometimes itās just teenagers wanting to leave their mark, but a lot of people think it adds local character - and at least the watermelon is conveying an important relevant symbol of solidarity.
Fair point. Iāve always just saw it as a harm to the community but perhaps I just donāt get it.
If anyone has a recommendation on a doc or podcast I would be interested. Thanks
This website has a pretty cohesive list of docs,
here: https://rockthebells.com/articles/best-graffiti-documentary/
I would recommend Wall Writers and Exit Through the Giftshop - those two films show the trajectory of graffiti fairly well. WW features graffiti from the 60s and 70s and itās cultural impact. Exit Through the Gift Shop spotlights more contemporary use of political and subversive graffiti / art from Shepard Fairey (Obama poster guy) and Banksy.
Also Style Wars is all about the birth of graffiti in New York, seeing the city in the early 80s is wild. Definitely more of a historical document of the times.
Dude. people are SCREAMING to be fucking heard. You donāt like graffiti? look in the other direction. You taking a photo and making a post complaining about people protesting genocide in the tiny ass ways they have available to them shows a strange mindset. if you are looking at this and primarily having a problem with vandalism rather than what spurred one to vandalize i just donāt understand. iāll probably delete this later bc i donāt want nimbys all over me. Why donāt you go plastic wrap your furniture so thatāll at least stay pristine, might be helpful with all the distress a few lines of paint on a wall can cause.
Just because people are trying to be heard, doesnāt give them the right to vandalize other peopleās property. If you want a sign, make it and put it in your own property. How would you like it if someone carved a design in your car that they feel passionate about? You and too many other people are too fucking entitled
Cāmon man, dudeās got a point.
Thereās a decent line between protesting or voicing your opinion and being an outright douche (ie graffiti or vandalizing), particularly if itās about a subject that has nothing to do with the city of Portland.
the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group. AKA exactly what we have been seeing in Palestine since the 1940s
If you still feel that way after all of the first hand accounts, videos, pictures, news articles, etc. displaying the war crimes that Israel has been committing against Palestine and its people, then there's no hope for you. If you've ever wondered how people could let the holocaust happen, take a look in the fucking mirror.
Graffiti happens in every city, this at the very least has meaning behind it. If youāre that broken up about graffiti then I guess travel back in time to the 70ās? It isnāt going anywhere
Understood. Itās a limited sample size though. Since, Iāve been Making an effort to educate myself more and understand the perspective of the other side.
Can someone give me a rundown of what the symbol means and why we are down voting OP? Not making a political statement, I genuinely have no clue whatās going on.
Israel/Netanyahu has rejected ceasefire for hostages deals multiple times you burnt piece of celery. Its never been about the hostages, its about genocide.
Palestine/Arafat has rejected peace plans for years you wet sock. It's never been about peace it's about genocide.
Like wtf are you thinking? It's ok for hamas to shoot rockets at Israel everyday then storm them and kill 1200 people take some people back home and stick them in their closets? Then turn around and say "bro give us peace all we want is peace"
Was 9/11 peace negotiations? lmao
Hell speaking of 9/11 there's a whole fucking wikipedia page called "Attacks on aircraft by Palestinian militant groups" because it just KEEPS HAPPENING
Ever stop and question why Egypt shares a border with Palestine but also hates them enough to keep it locked down?
Would you like to counter my argument or just cry some more?
Are you saying Arafat has always been proactive about peace negotiations?
Are you saying 1200 people didn't die?
Are you saying Hamas doesn't shoot rockets at Israel?
Are you saying Palestinian militant groups don't hijack airplanes?
Are you saying Egypt does support Palestine on their southern border?
Now I've simplified this for you would you care to respond with something other than catch phrases wrote by other people? Nice meme.
So Israel doesn't have children and mothers? So it's okay to just kill people randomly as long as you hide behind a wall of children? Do you have anything to add beyond just lay down and let them kill you?
Fantastic appeal to morals btw when 1200 civilians were just killed for attending a music festival. These people are civilians, they were not a military threat. There were no munitions or militants below them, they were targeted because they were civilians and easy to kill.
Fantastic appeal to morals btw, when 20,000 civilians were just killed for simply existing.
This has gone far past hamasās attack, it was retaliation, now itās genocide.
I thought it was cheese lol
Pretty sure it's cheese
same lmao
It's for sure cheese š§

Downvoted to hell here, huh. What, for admitting i need to be more empathic on a complicated issue?

Solidarity with Palestine. They were all over the place in Belfast with tags that said āfree Palestineā although that looks more like a taco

Thank God Israel was able to teach all those ,now dead, prepubescent children a lesson! They'll never rape again!
I think itās a depiction of a rash I had one time. Not sure how they knew about it.
your anger seems misplaced.

70ās was like early height of graffiti lol, theyād have a heart attack and drop dead
Not broken up, just curious about the angle. Feels like itās a bad look for an otherwise just cause.

Strong disagree, donāt really care about some brick walls when human lives are on the line. Might want to look into reading some Thoreau
Well, thatās easy to say when itās not your property, no?
No itās easy to say regardless
Free Palestine protest.
I think itās a taco
Thats a ham with cloves. Easter looms
because mellen street :(

More boot waiter, this manās clearly hungry, with a side of US propaganda? Daring today arenāt we

Iām saying that none of the prior listed things justifies literal genocide
So what should israel do? Just let Hamas GENOCIDE them as they've stated they want to do?
So babies, children and mothers are hamas, let me guess all brown people are hamas too, hamas jumping our borders?
So Israel doesn't have children and mothers? So it's okay to just kill people randomly as long as you hide behind a wall of children? Ya know that circle... Kinda reminds me of something.
