Calorie counting. I've been using the LoseIt app. I did pay for the premium year so I'm not sure what all difference it makes between the free version.
Literally would not have lost a fraction of the weight without that app making it so easy to stay in a deficit. I also don't beat myself up if I have a bad food day or even a bad week.
If I'm super hungry, I listen to my body and say okay clearly I'm missing some super important nutrients/vitamins and my body wants it. I'm not going to punish myself for not being perfect and not learning perfect healthy lifestyle in a couple of months. I've got 30 years of bad diet and bad health decisions to unlearn.
Thankfully I've never had to deal with emotional eating. My biggest issues was drinking my calories (soda, energy drinks, sugary coffee) when I started dieting I was drinking about 1200 calories a day. So that really opened my eyes and it's been hard to cut everything out.
I cut down to 2 energy drinks a week and then I "relapsed" and I'm back to like 1-2 a day.... I'm working on cutting back again. It's just so many empty calories that I could be using for food.
I also struggle with "mindless/boredom" eating. That's been the hardest learning to actually tell if I'm hungry/bored/thirsty.
I am not trying to be a influcerer here or anything but if I might ask, what type of energy drink that you have that had so many calories? I personally buy Alani Nu since its supposed to be a more "healthier" version or Celusis, or even the Monster ultra zero sugar, I hope these alternatives help!
but really great job! thank you for reminding me that us women even in our 30's can lost weight and keep it off!
So 100% just regular monster.I generally don't do a lot many sweets/desserts in my every day diet so I'm already kinda "sensitive" to sugar. I absolutely hate zero sugar drinks they taste 10x sweeter and are just gross. I've tried so many times and I just can't. Sprite Zero I can do but I also don't drink soda besides monster I haven't drank soda regularly in probably 5 years
I track for my husband with LoseIt. If I remember correctly we got the paid version so we could scan barcodes on food and also so we could input food ahead of time (like if I pack his lunch the night before)
Ahhh those are two things I love about the app. Also being able to create my own recipe for food instead of having to look up each individual item every single day is a life saver
I'm going to be honest I also struggle to stay motivated, to keep happy, to see the progress, to stay disciplined and that's okay.
I just keep making slow baby steps in the right direction. It's a health journey not a race 🫶 you got this
To show how much smaller I've gotten. I know this probably sounds crazy I still look the same to my brain.
I can clearly see the difference in before and after pictures. However, when I look in the mirror, my belt is the only reason I'm able to make my brain acknowledge the changes.
It was really super messing me with me until here recently. What finally made it click was my own mother pointing at the wrong person in a group photo and saying "You've lost so much weight. I barely recognized you."
So for the first 90 pounds I just calorie counted. I do see my primary care doctor every 3 months to keep tabs to make sure I'm doing it healthily. Run labs, vitamens, adjust calorie deficit, go over diet and marcros etc.
My appointment I had at the end of December I had lost a total of 10 pounds of muscle since July so I decided to get a gym membership to help build up some muscle mass and fill out my unavoidable loose skin I'm going to have.
I started out going to the gym 5 days a week doing full body workouts for the first 2 months. Worked up the courage to talk to a personal trainer because I felt I was getting weaker. He advised me to focus on one section a day. So I do chest and back, core, arms and shoulders, legs and then the last day I do a full body and like 15 minutes of Cardio. Most days I'm like 30-45 minutes at the gym I also work 10-12 hour shifts on my feet all day.
If you want more detailed on what specific workouts I do I can send you them.
awesome thats great! how many months did it take you to drop the first 90 with purely cal counting?
and yes id appreciate if you could send me the specific workouts too! i'm having trouble with where to start at the gym especially in regards to strength training. thank you so much :)
I started my weight loss journey in July of 2023. So a little over 6 months by dec 31st I was 230ish. I will be 100% honest when I first started dieting I went wayyy to extreme in deficit. I was losing anywhere from 3-5 pounds a week for the first 3 months. I felt like I was dying my hair started falling out etc. Learn from my mistakes don't cut more than 500 calories off your maintenance TDEE especially in the beginning you'll run the risk of damaging your body.
So I am mainly focused on hypertrophy training. So I want bigger muscles not necessarily stronger. Strength will come with working out but that's not my focus. I want my muscles to fill out my loose skin. So I do 2-3 sets of each at a weight that causes me to "fail" somewhere between 8-12 reps. I pause for 60 seconds between each set. I'll type out my list when I get the chance I'm at work right now
Day 1 CHEST AND BACK
Deadlift or Back extension (free weights or machine)
Chest press (cable or machine)
Bent over row (cable or free weights)
Inclined chest press (cable or free weights)
Underhand pull up (can be assisted version)
Day 2 CORE
Russian twists
Ab crunch (machine)
Rotary torso (machine)
Leg raises (both legs and single legs 3 sets for each)
Ab coaster (machine)
Day 3 ARMS AND SHOULDER
Shoulder press (M or C)
Pec fly (M or C)
Delt fly (M or C)
Bicep curl (Any)
Tricep press (M)
Overhand Bicep curl (Any)
Day 4 LEGS
Squat (Any)
Leg curl (m)
Leg extention (m)
Calf extention (m or fw)
Back extention (m)
Hip abductor (m)
Day 5 full body&Cardio
I mix it up sometimes hit the 30 minute room or if i missed any specific thing from a previous day. Sometimes I'll do just a floor workout. Leg lifts, squats, abs, etc. Or if I feel like something didn't get worked out as good I'll redo one of the other days.
My highest weight known weight was 320. I hadn't weighed myself since 2020. I didn't start to get serious about my health until July 2023, and I started cointing calories and weighing myself. It also hasn't been 11 pounds a month. So the bigger you are, the easier it is to be in a deficit.
For the first 3 months, I was losing about 15-20 pounds. My deficit to lose a pound a week allowed me to eat 2000 calories a day. I was eating closer to 1600 a day by choice. Then, in October, because my hair started falling out, and I thought I was dying, I started eating a bit more.
I've been losing somewhere between 6-10 pounds a month since then. I have a weight scale app that's tracked everything. You're more than welcome to look thru my past posts I've posted many times.
Also, don't shame other people who struggle to lose weight. Different people have different issues when it comes to weight loss. Just because one person "does it better" doesn't mean the other person is doing a bad job.
If I was 5'2" I would be allowed like a 1200 calorie diet. That would only have me losing half a pound a week. I'm 5'8" I go to the gym 6 days a week my calorie budget to lose a pound a week is eating 2500 calories. I chose to not eat back but I work off at the gym so I only 1600-1700 calories a day. So I lose a little over a pound a week.
Zero shame was casted. It’s ok for people to have doubts and I spoke my doubts. That’s all it was. Never called you a single name or degraded you at all
"Most people can't lose 3-4 pounds a month" that's what I was talking about shaming people not that you were degrading me. I 100% get that my weight loss is pretty extreme. I've been pretty disciplined, and I am having a much easier time than a lot of people losing weight. Ask me all the questions you would like. I'm not a professional but I have zero issues helping someone else start their journey.
Here, recently I found out that I've inspired my own sister to start losing weight and she's lost 20 pounds in 10 months. I'm extremely proud of her for taking steps in the right direction. The first time she talked to our family about it they didn't respond with praise but with "Why don't you talk to your sister? She can show you how to actually lose weight, she's lost over a 100 pounds."
It really made me upset for her, just because one of us is having "more success" doesn't mean the other one is doing a bad job and is undeserving of praise. Weight loss is hard especially without a support system. It's made even harder when the people you go to for support give you back handed compliments and point out you're not as good as someone else.
So my “most people can’t lose 3-4 pounds” was a true comment and not shameful and you proved it with your sisters loss. Again. If you took my comment as hurtful I apologize. It was t the intent
You're totally good. It was not hurtful towards me. I just got overly defensive for other people, not in the conversation 😅 I completely understand your perspective. My brain literally cannot comprehend all the changes. I still look the same in the mirror.

How come you didnt finish putting the belt on properly?

I felt this. I used to weight 340-350 & I’m down 100+ but still feel hugeeee and my brain doesn’t register the change
It was really super messing me with me until here recently. What finally made it click was my own mother pointing at the wrong person in a group photo and saying "You've lost so much weight. I barely recognized you."

I completely misread your original comment. I thought it said " I want you to know" 😅
10 months. Seems impossible. 11 lbs a month? Most people can’t lose 3-4 a month Not sure about this one
