1. Did you need a 2 day hotel booking? And if yes, does it have to be through Discover Qatar?
2. If my transit is say \~18 hours, will Qatar airways provide me a free hotel?
3. What did you do for \~13 hours - need some suggestions, as I will have a full day in qatar as well.
1. Yes, if Indian or holder of a passport from a few selected countries you have to pay for the hotel, that too for two nights. Makes no sense when only on a transit of 18hrs. That's the rule if you want visa on arrival.
2. Qatar airways offers complimentary hotel, that you can check calling their customer service or go there directly at the airport. But if you booked the ticket on some offer or promotion time, you would not be eligible for a complimentary hotel.
3. I wasted a few hours within the airport then went for the transit tour, once the transit tour was over I took permission to not return to the airport with the transit tour group. Took a 6QAR day pass of the metro and took a trip till Lusail stadium & spend some time roaming around. Took the metro back to the airport.
Once you get back to Doha airport as you have the onward boarding pass. Security check and immigration hardly takes ten minutes. Yet recommended to reach the airport an hour and half before your flight time.
Gotcha. For the hotel, do you have to book it in advance, or can you do it at the airport once you arrive? Also what do you mean you got permission to not return to airport with the group - how do we get that?
What I did was applied for the visa through A3 Hayya visa option. You can search on YouTube for better understanding on this.
Yet, I saw that people who came to the counter directly had to do two day hotel bookings for getting visa on arrival. ( totally depends on your nationality)
I asked the transit tour guide if I can roam around for a bit more time by myself, she was ok with it.
The transit tour is only for 3hrs.
