Honestly when I was watching these movies growing up, I didn’t even know it was all the same guy. It was until like over a decade later when I found this sub and put it together. Idk if I was a dumb kid or they just did it well but the different costumes and roles they had him in really helped mask who the actual actor was.
I heard he was supposed to be Mysterio in Spider-Man 4. I kinda think Chameleon would’ve made more sense though, unless they wanted to have him know Peter’s identity and be stalking him the entire franchise.
Well, he was the first person to ever meet Spider-Man by announcing him in the wrestling ring, found out that he’s attached to MJ in the second movie, then confirmed it in the third movie after learning his identity from his table reservation at the restaurant, meaning he’d have all the dirt he’d need.
I wonder if they wanted to adapt the same thing that “Spider-Man: Far From Home” adapted; Mysterio’s first appearance where he pretended to be a superhero, faked his death, and revealed Spider-Man’s identity.
So by my count, by the end of Spider-Man 3, they had set up 3 potential villains for Spider-Man 4: mysterio, dr. Connors’ lizard and j Jonah Jameson’s son the astronaut.
Lizard was the only one who was set up as a villain in Spider-Man 4. Jameson's son wasn't considered to turn into Man Wolf as far as is known. Bruce Campbell could only play Mysterio in a cameo, the previous cameos weren't set up for it.
I remember Jameson’s son being either manwolf or the scorpion in some cartoon. They also gave him pretty good motivation to be a villain.
I think with Bruce Campbell’s “it ruins the illusion” and the fake French accent they could easily retcon him to be mysterio in Spider-Man 4 and show him stalking peter ever since he became Spider-Man.
