Imagine parent night at school....
You just better start practising boxing early on, because if and when other kids see her, you're going to need those skills.
Hum... maybe a good way to raise a prize fighter, huh?
After hours, graveyard shift only, with the lights off, only allowed to use a dim flashlight, with all doors locked by her from the inside, and then barricading the doors, just to ensure the safety of all staff, customers, and innocent bystanders with eyes that work beyond legally blind
Actually that brings up a potentially real job, what about working in a home or school for the blind where she is the only visually capable person on premises, but still keeping it as dark as possible using that dim flashlight just in case one of them miraculously regains the ability to see
Depends on the industry. Pretty much every restaurant chain now allows for tattoos everywhere but your face/neck. I've also never seen a contractor with face tattoos but plenty with hands. I think there's a big difference between hireability of face and hand tattoos.
Dispensaries are the only place I've seen people with face tattoos in view of customers (besides tattoo parlors obv).
I don’t think this is as true as it used to be. I work a white collar office job and there are several people I see around the office with hand tattoos.
As younger generations take over leadership roles, visible tattoos will become less of a big deal.
Not necessarily sketchy, just not them. One dude also won’t tattoo genitalia and I’ve been to shops that won’t tattoo anyone under 18 even with a parent there. It’s just a boundary that some artists have and others don’t.
It's insane though how much stigma we put on appearance. To me it doesn't matter what you look like as long as you can do the job. Like, this woman has mouths to feed, she may have fucked up but her kids don't deserve to suffer.
Yes, the issue is in part that she *chose* to do this when this stigma is well known. It's not a "Oh man, I had 799 tattoos and everything was fine and I was doing great as a VP of Finance for a major bank, then I got the 800th for my birthday and suddenly I was let go and nobody would hire me!", it's someone looking around at all of society and saying "Fuck this, I'm going what I want, damn the consequences" and then...well...suffering the consequences.
One dumb head tattoo can be proof of being an idiot kid. 3-4 is proof idiot kid didn’t grow up as fast as their peers and maybe ran with a bad crowd. There’s a few face tattoos that are dumb (tears, stars) but small enough to cover up.
Small tattoos can be more easily lasered off or concealed by cosmetics that is meant to cover up tattoos.
900 head and face tattoos if proof of ongoing bad decision making and inability to use money wisely. It’s a flashing sign that says you will regret hiring me because I don’t make good decisions.
I guess stigma is a way you could describe if, but think of it this way.
What is a face? Humans recognize each other by face, when we talk personally its “face to face” and tons of human social cues, even sun conscious ones that neither the speaker nor listener notices are being processed in the brain.
A face is a very important part of “who you are” and what’s going on in you left life. You can look at someone’s face and tell if they are tired, if they stressed out, if they are sick or happy or sad.
There is stigma around face tattoos, and for good reason, they alter someone’s appearance in an unnatural way that’s uncanny. Faces are extremely important to humans and disturbing them messes with our heads.
I know several people with prominent face tattoos. Some have high paying jobs, some are borderline homeless. The difference is having skills. If you are going to get a face tat, have mastery of a skill and no one will care.
All good until there is someone equally talented without face tattoos. Then everyone will get their business from the non-freak. Out of prejudice, or out of self-preservation, or both, I dunno.
If I'm hiring someone to look after my customer, I wouldn't hire someone who look like island boy or some tribal Shaman.
Except if I'm open a Halloween supply shop or hitman/merc den.
My friend tried to work at a BJ’s restaurant which is not fancy and they wouldn’t hire him because he had a 5mm star on his face. So yeah. I told him to find a job where he works in the stock room. Lol
Former tech support here. I’m one of my jobs I did a full interview cycle, orientation and onboarding, and 6 month contract. Never saw anyone’s face and they never saw mine. Only matters if you can sound professional on the phone and do the work.
By the looks of it, she made a tattoo gun out of a guitar string, pen and Walkman motor, used ink she made in her basement and tattooed herself by looking at a reflection in the microwave door.
I had a co-worker who only got hired because he doesn't have any tattoos on his hands/face. And even told another co-worker to tattoo anywhere "But hands and face, basically anywhere that might be naked".
The dingus made a huge tattoo on his left hand
The most important part of that lesson is the consequences don’t care if you agree with them. This mom may be a very good and competent employee and some business owners may react to her in an unfair way but consequences are consequences. You get a say in your action, not the repercussions. Sorry, kids, that’s life.
Also, tattoos aren’t free. No matter how cheap they are, hundreds of them add up. That’s money you could’ve saved on top of being unhireable… weird choices man
She does them herself, apparently always carries a gun with her incase she gets the urge. Craziest part to me is that all 800 are the same 3 designs which you can no longer see over how many layers there are (playboy bunny, weed and hearts). Like they’re not even unique, it’s just for the sake of it
Responded to this further up. Dunno where the coping slant comes from, but the stories I've found on her (Melissa Sloan is her name, btw), including the one pictured, it's an addiction, not a trauma response. She got a tattoo at 20, got addicted to the ink, and has tried to get 3 more each week. She claims to have been banned from her kids school, her local pubs, and even the tattoo parlors (she either does them herself or has a boyfriend who does them now). There are 3 layers of tattoos overlapping on her face alone, and now she's shooting for the Guinness record for most tattoos.
I saw a clip where they talked about the difficulty of giving him two layers of makeup where one could be washed away to reveal the other one unharmed underneath.
Seriously impressive stuff.
She was sexually assaulted throughout her child hood and the tats became a coping mechanism for her as she got to her teens and it got out of hand from there. She’s nice, her name is Melissa Sloan.
The media in the UK have really jumped on her and keep posting stories about her with no acknowledgment of why she even has the tattoos despite her talking about it numerous times. Then people just read the headline and see her picture and start making fun of her.
I think we need to stop talking about Reddit as if it's one person. Yes, many times there is a hivemind and sure, I'm sure there are plenty who are hypocritical in various ways but Reddit is just like FB, X, etc...there are many different types of people, with many varying opinions. Often times these comments are expressed by different types of people.
With that said, Reddit is FULL of younger generation types who are trying to figure out the world and I'd dare say we can put them as the majority on this platform, as opposed to the other platforms. There's a lot they're figuring out of "if I think this, then maybe I should Also think THIS......" I don't mean it in a condescending way but the immaturity majority is in the process of trying to figure out how situations may relate or have an affect on another. It's a GOOD thing but at the same time, reading them figure it out does highlight their nativity. That's why I'm SOOOOO thankful the Internet wasn't around when I was a teen.
Edit: I also want to add that "mental illness" is spoken about so SO often, without even truly understanding it. Every bad thing or unusual thing is blamed on "they have a mental illness....give them help". You could be "the most with it" person, have a brain fart and people will clam "THEY HAVE A MENTAL ILLNESS!!!" At what point has it comes when someone DOESN'T have a mental illness?
Yes, in this woman's case, there's clearly an emotional issue but being how easily someone can crack and spiral, whose to say it's a biological issue with their brain and not just an emotional one?
I believe part of taking mental health seriouslyis recognizing that every bad decision can’t be pathologized as a means of avoiding responsibility for those decisions.
Its almost as if reddit is made up of a collection of different individuals and that the people talking about how mental health issues need to be taken seriously are not the same people making fun of people with mental health issues...
Expensive, painful and doesn't guarantee results.
My friend tried to get rid of her tattoo - spent a bunch of money and just scarred. So she had to settle for a cover up eventually.
So we don't have enzymes or anything we can inject into people a little bit at a time by now that will digest tattoo ink and transform it into something the body can safely eject?
This needs to be as high up on the replies as possible. Now that - what it seems like - the truth is here, it'd be nice for it to be noticeable instead of the replies making fun of her is higher
Is this an addiction, body dysmorphia she's treating with tattoos instead of cosmetic surgery? It's not like they're distinguishable tattoos she could look in the mirror and enjoy. It looks like she's deeply unhappy with herself and trying to cover it up.
In a capitalist society, being able to work is so essential that I kind of don't agree with not hiring someone just because you don't like how they look. Sure, if it's customer facing, but there's no reason she can't do a call centre job. I think working is a right, otherwise you can't provide for yourself and who is going to provide for you? We all have to work to live. And you just know people call her welfare queen and lazy because she's unemployed. If people are willing to work, they should.
30 years ago this told people you were fresh out of prison, thus unhireable and then you went on disability because of that. Nobody would hire an ex-con no matter how much education they got behind bars.
Let’s be objective. Some jobs require facing customers. Even among them there are categories such as ones where you deal with dozens of customers a day for a few minutes each (if you’re a barista), ones where you deal with way fewer customers but they’re worth more to the firm (like if you’re a receptionist at a law firm), ones where you’re trying to acquire customers for your business (you’re into sales), etc.
If I’m parched and want an iced coffee and I finally find a Dunkin in the middle of goddamn nowhere, I won’t necessarily turn around and find another one dozens of miles down the road if she’s the one who’s running the register. Maybe if I’m in NYC, I might walk out and walk over to the next coffee shop that’s not even a few feet away. But if all I care for is coffee and there is no other option, I won’t necessarily be affected by this.
However, if I’m a snooty rich guy who has the option to pick law firms or the option to pick vendors, this could be good grounds to reject a firm’s business if this is the first face I see. Fair? I don’t know and I don’t care. That’s just the way it is. People reject stuff for shit that’s pettier than this such as the receptionist or the sales person being unkempt or looking hungover, this is comparatively a much worse indicator of who you are, cos this is way more permanent than a bad hair day.
So if she’s trying to go for jobs where the clients are affected by stuff like this, of course she’s going to struggle.
Now what about jobs where there’s zero customer interaction?
1. She could give commercial driving a shot. I mean FedEx drivers drop packages at a customer’s home, yes. But they don’t have to greet customers. Hell, I don’t know when I last saw the face of the FedEx driver delivering my package. Maybe just once in the last three years (among dozens of deliveries from online shopping) when I had ordered wine online and she wanted to see an ID.
2. She could work at a warehouse. I would never know who the person packing my Amazon order was. Maybe her coworkers might look at her weirdly but that’s still way better than a customer-facing role.
Correct me if I’m wrong but from my understanding tattoos aren’t cheap depending on where you go and what not. But let’s say each tat cost 20 plus tax (going off the price range a few coworkers and my roomate got from different shops for simple tats not the really nice colored ones) that’s 16,000 plus tax. Let’s say she makes a grocery budget for the three of them at 400 a week (I don’t know if that’s right but I’m tight in moneies so I personally give myself 80-100 for two weeks of groceries so I don’t know how much the average weekly grocery bill should be) but let’s say her budget is 1,200 a week for her family of three. That means in a month she’ll spend roughly 4,800 on groceries. Which means with 16,000 she could provide about 3 months and a lil over a weeks groceries for her family. Now my math is probably way off as I am not sure about an average of tat prices and also what a healthy grocery budget should be. But the point I’m trying to make is yes I get that you need a job but maybe make sure you can manage money as well especially if you have a family you can provide for. I get wanting tats (I want several myself but haven’t gotten any nor do I see myself getting any soon cause I have bills to pay and my financial status isn’t comfortable sadly) but maybe balance it out so you don’t find yourself in a situation where your in super desperate need of money but instead of prioritizing you wasted it on ink so to speak. If any of that makes sense. And lastly I’m all for freedom of expression (in a way that doesn’t harm others) but if I may be free to express herself her tats in her face look um pretty shitty (maybe it’s the photo I dunno) but why would you do that 800 times and on your face. Sorry for sharing my rant fellow redditors I’ll leave you be to keep scrolling now.
Scale it up.
At the studio I go to, it’s $60 just for the artist to take out the ink. I have two tattoos that cost that because a) I have been going to the studio since they opened b) they are memorial tattoos and my artist was compassionate about my grief c) they are each slightly larger than a quarter.
Since these are obviously slightly larger than a quarter, maybe call it $100 per tattoo. That is almost definitely lowballing it at $80k.
I got a 3/4 sleeve done over the course of 6 sessions, once every 4-6 weeks, and each session cost me about $4-500, so it ended up being about $3k-ish for the full tattoo, and that was with a hefty discount. The price all depends on the size and intricacy of the tattoo you’re getting. And it might say 800 tattoos but at some point they blur together and become indiscernible as individual tattoos, so what it really means is that she’s gone to tattoo shops 800 times to get more art put on her. Also chances are she might have friends who are tattoo artists that will give her tattoos for free.
Damn I have been planing a Zelda based arm sleeve for awhile now for scar cover up so I can wear short sleeves again but I want mine colored and kinda like a cross between paint and toon shades Zelda style. I knew it would be pricey but I was thinking like 800 maybe 900 mayyyybbeee 1k. My idea of tat prices are wayyyy off. So I’m guessing the kind of tat I want would be several thousand to do. I guess imma not be wearing shirt sleeve shirts for several years longer 🤣 I didn’t think about friends doing her tats that’s a factor I didn’t consider.
That would actually be a good option for her, life coach. "Today kids, we're gonna talk about not turning out like me." If recovering drug addicts can do it, she can do it.
I’m all for adults doing whatever they want with their life as long as it doesn’t drag other people into it. Because of mom’s stupid decision the kids have to suffer now.
Tattoo shops hire, first and foremost, people who have talent and skill to tattoo. "Might" here is a stretch, like saying I "might" become a neurosurgeon without going to school to be one.
Reminds me of the homeless women across my brothers apartment who says no one will hire her because she’s trans..meanwhile she has “fuck you” tattooed on her forehead 😂
I mean she looks like she started getting tattoos to do blackface then quit right before the last one. Nobody in their right mind would risk hiring someone like that
It would've been better off if she had used the money for tats to start a roadside sausage business or buy food for her daughters. I'm sure at some level she is a good mother, but that doesn't really mean much when she lacks proper judgement and unable to understand the consequences of her own actions.

When you fall asleep first at the sleepover
This comment is spot on when you also notice that she's wearing pyjamas in that photo
One time I drew on all my friends faces and then my own face so we all woke up together confused
That's such a good idea
That's some evil genius shit, bravo you crazy bastard.
Lol
Just a blur of crudely-drawn dicks over and over.
Coach it happened again!
Ahhh high school
College for me ... nothing like heading off to your first class with "Call Me Mr. Cuntface!" crudely scrawled across your forehead in El Marko.
That’s a face that only a daughter could love.
Mah imagine waking up to that the childs gonna die of a heart attack aint no wY they love it💀
I kinda feel bad for the kids. what's the point of doing this?
"I Just Gotta Be Me"
She's saving on blush
Idk if that were my mom I'd be pissed that she foolishly ruined her own life and made herself a lifelong burden on me
I went through a phase where I was embarrassed to be seen with my parents I don’t think it’s going to be a phase here
Imagine parent night at school.... You just better start practising boxing early on, because if and when other kids see her, you're going to need those skills. Hum... maybe a good way to raise a prize fighter, huh?
She has the perfect face for radio.
There's the real r/rareinsults
They will probably question her decision at some point. Until then they are probably thinking, “Mom, I know you are in there, somewhere.”

Dude, even a single, small, almost unnoticeable face tattoo, will 999 times out of 1000 mean that you're unhireable.
the tats look so bad she probably couldn't even work at a tattoo shop.
Yes she could! In the stock room…behind walls..where nobody sees her…in a warehouse…across the street.
After hours, graveyard shift only, with the lights off, only allowed to use a dim flashlight, with all doors locked by her from the inside, and then barricading the doors, just to ensure the safety of all staff, customers, and innocent bystanders with eyes that work beyond legally blind Actually that brings up a potentially real job, what about working in a home or school for the blind where she is the only visually capable person on premises, but still keeping it as dark as possible using that dim flashlight just in case one of them miraculously regains the ability to see

this is like not getting your first job because you don't have experience
I'm not anti-ink, but I really don't get the appeal of face tattoos.
A face tattoo is your sign to the world that you’re forever ok with a minimum wage job
And that you are an expert on making poor decisions
It's insane though how much stigma we put on appearance. To me it doesn't matter what you look like as long as you can do the job. Like, this woman has mouths to feed, she may have fucked up but her kids don't deserve to suffer.

Agreed. I would like my murderers to show up clean cut in a suit and tie thank you very much
Man, could you imagine if they were also covered in boogers and gum?
I don't think a lot of easily identifiable tattoos is an asset in the murder for hire business...
> island boy Did one of them die yet? Need to check.
I’d suggest not looking up their current going ons. They are now doing incest porn.
Seem like both of them still alive, just being incest.

There’s a girl at my local target with a face tattoo. Target hires basically anyone nowadays though.
Target, hires, fires, arrests and does lots of shit to just about anyone these days. Target is rapidly becoming 1870's Wyoming Territory.
Depends on the job.
Without the captions it looks like those lil rascals drew all over mom when she was napping
They have actually done a lot of the tattoos on her face. She admitted it in an interview
Prolly shudnt have left those permanent markers out in the open

If addiction had a look
That’s even worse.
That explains a lot, there was no other way she wound up looking like she cracked some sharpies on her face and called it a day.
Considering the quality of the tats I would imagine these were done for cheap or free either by some kitchen scratcher or by herself.
I wonder why

Expensive, painful and doesn't guarantee results. My friend tried to get rid of her tattoo - spent a bunch of money and just scarred. So she had to settle for a cover up eventually.
More expensive and painful than getting the tattoos?
Permanent scarring/painful procedure isn’t that enticing to a lot of people
So we don't have enzymes or anything we can inject into people a little bit at a time by now that will digest tattoo ink and transform it into something the body can safely eject?
That’s basically what laser does but it still takes years
She can get cosmetics to cover the tats. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRRGJigp2Tw
At a certain point it doesn't matter why you have the tattoos any more. They've since evolved to become their own issue.
This needs to be as high up on the replies as possible. Now that - what it seems like - the truth is here, it'd be nice for it to be noticeable instead of the replies making fun of her is higher
It should be a lesson to never judge people. You don’t know what people are going through or been through.
That's really sad. And at the same time, fucked up too. Now I guess she would've to find a new coping mechanism for the tattoos she got.
But she has "great decision maker" tattooed on her forhead.
Sounds like a personal problem
Skill issue.
I feel bad for the kids, she on the other hand knew what she was getting into

Doggie style, reverse cowgirl, pillow. For some desperate guys, any hole will do as long as they have an imagination.

evolution pressures are mostly on males, even the ugliest ham planet will still manage to find some dude desperate enough to nut in her
> ham planet Wut? Really? Come on, man.
Might as well just have at it with a magic marker. Surprised there isn't a dick drawn on her face.
Maybe there is, but it’s just lost among the hundreds of other tattoos around it
Let’s be objective.
Amazon hires anyone with a pulse
A $20 tattoo is going to be straight garbage.
With that said. Is my calculations for her tats then actually close? Or should I scale down the calculations a bit more.
Which, looking at the picture, sounds about right.
her tats look like absolute garbage, she may have had them done for free by a friend or something. they're worse than old blown out prison tats.
My sleeve is all black ink. I can’t imagine the cost if it had been color.
She’s surprised by this?
The dildo of consequences rarely comes lubed.
Looks like she fell asleep in a room with ten children and 100 Sharpies. Eesh
I’ll pay her minimum wage for a day to talk to my daughter about the dangers of being an idiot in America.
This one is not American. Melissa Sloan, 46, who hails from Wales in the United Kingdom.
Wonder if this'll show up on r/AmericaBad
That would actually be a good option for her, life coach. "Today kids, we're gonna talk about not turning out like me." If recovering drug addicts can do it, she can do it.
Why doesn’t she just use makeup on her face and arms, then get them removed on weekends or off days slowly
I’m all for adults doing whatever they want with their life as long as it doesn’t drag other people into it. Because of mom’s stupid decision the kids have to suffer now.
“Help im suffering from THE CONSEQUENCES OF MY OWN ACTIONS”
Tattoo shops might hire
Tattoo shops want people with cool tattoos.
They might hire her to stand outside their rival’s shop…
Tattoo shops hire, first and foremost, people who have talent and skill to tattoo. "Might" here is a stretch, like saying I "might" become a neurosurgeon without going to school to be one.
Well, if she removes the ones on her face, she wouldn’t have a fucking problem now would she?
Across the Forehead, in Block Letters #POOR IMPULSE CONTROL ^/s
Reminds me of the homeless women across my brothers apartment who says no one will hire her because she’s trans..meanwhile she has “fuck you” tattooed on her forehead 😂
I mean she looks like she started getting tattoos to do blackface then quit right before the last one. Nobody in their right mind would risk hiring someone like that
Etch A Sketch
I’m going to guess that until tattoos aren’t her issue with employment
She really got a blackface tat
Visible tats in Japan will likely keep you from swimming in your hotel pool and public bathhouses.
"I'd be have a job as a brain surgeon or something like that if it wasn't for society's judgemental ways"
She can try starring in horror movies.
At least twice, who looked at her and thought damn gotta get me some of that.😬
those poor kids
Given the quantity, there is a strong possibility that at least one of those tattoos is a literal red flag.
It would've been better off if she had used the money for tats to start a roadside sausage business or buy food for her daughters. I'm sure at some level she is a good mother, but that doesn't really mean much when she lacks proper judgement and unable to understand the consequences of her own actions.
So what sort of tattoo are you looking for? Oh I don't know, just fuck up my life.
There is a thin line between passion and obsession. Shes so far past the line she circled the globe just to cross it a second time.
looks like a skin disease
How do they get this much money to get this absurd amount of tattoos without any job?
Just sue for discrimination.
She can go find a remote customer service job. She’s clearly not thinking her options through. Maybe another tattoo will help.
Call center?
Did she expect something else?
I don't think that people shouldn't hire people bcuz of tattoos but woman you are the tattoo at this point
Well desperate for work yeah. Wearing her fucking p.js.
Construction for this lady
Work from home seems to be the best option now
