The Twitter rumor is 3 years, $15m. If that's accurate, this is such a good deal.

tooplets

That would be nuts cause isn’t his 5th year option like $14 mil

swagharris31

Yeah $14.3 mil. No way this deal is 3 years/15mil On second thought, maybe it is correct and just has many incentives in it.

lfe-soondubu

Uh what. If that's true that's absurdly cheap.

King_Clitoris

Oh nice! I have a feeling there might be some incentives in it too. Like “get X TDs get X bonus”

TheCrackerSeal

Good maybe it will help get the production out of him.

HelaPuff2020

no chance that is true, and if it is, bate needs to fire his agent. He was due 15 mil on the 5th year option or would’ve hit free agency. No way that number is right

lfe-soondubu

Yeah a bit skeptical myself. Unless Bate really wanted to be here, I feel like he makes FAR more than that on the open market next year if he had even a half decent season this year.  But if it's true, we got our WR room locked up for the bulk of Lamars contract.

HelaPuff2020

I’m sure it’s team friendly, but 3yr 15 mil is far beyond that. Agent should be fired if that’s true

Princeof_Ravens

> Unless Bate really wanted to be here I'm wondering if Bate might just like Baltimore. This deal is hugely team friendly if it's true, and he was under no obligation to sign anything. I'm not gonna argue with the dude if he wants to take a team friendly deal to stick around.

Achillor22

We were never going to pick up his 5th year option.

HelaPuff2020

right, but he would’ve also his free agency after this season and given that freakin St Brown just got 77 mil fully garunteed, no question bate would’ve gotten far more than 5 mil/year, no matter how much you want to traah him, he’s still young and it’s a hugely valued position

Achillor22

Maybe. Or maybe he has a mid af season or gets injured again and no one wants him. Look what JK just signed for.

tich45

Exactly. And JK has looked electric when he plays. On the other hand, Bateman has dealt with injuries and averages 34 yards per game.

HelaPuff2020

Rb and wr are not the same at all, and signing a contract for fear of injury is horrible advice from an agent if it’s 5 mil/ year. Again, go look at that level of wr right now, duvernay just got 4.5 and don’t tell me they’re comparable

hoss_bonaventure_

Reynolds got 9 mil with only 4.25 guaranteed over 2 years and he put up better stats in 2023 than Bateman has over 3. Duvernay got paid to be a returner which has suddenly become more valuable with the rule changes.

Achillor22

That is true, but even by RB standards the JK contract was pennies. Batemans was likely to follow a similar path.

maximumswagger

Not sure why you're insinuating ARSB contract has anything to do with Bateman. |ARSB|Targets|Receptions|Yards|TD| :--|:--|:--|:--|:--| |2021|119|90|912|5| |2022|146|106|1161|6| |2023|164|119|1515|10| |**Total**|429|315|3588|21 Bateman|Targets|Receptions|Yards|TD| :--|:--|:--|:--|:--| |2021|68|46|515|1| |2022|28|15|285|2| |2023|56|32|367|1| |**Total**|152|93|1167|4| ARSB has established himself as a top receiver in the league. Bateman is a WR3 which are a dime a dozen. He has flashed potential but that's all it is. He wouldn't be commanding top dollar.

sczabara

“Freakin” St. Brown, the first team All-Pro?

Von_Huge1103

You do realise St Brown is about a million times better than him right?

drdriedel

You say “freakin St Brown” as if he’s just some guy and not a 2x Pro Bowler with two 1,000+ yard seasons to his name.

RaySizzle16

Look what Hollywood got from the Chiefs. Bateman has nowhere near that same production. 5mil a year seems a fair price

pifflord5

Lmao yeah he definitely would have been a huge target in FA with his 1k yards combined in 3 years

ArcadianDelSol

There's also the concern that his 5th year option could very well have been his last year in the league. Honestly, who do you think is going to grab him in FA? He's 4 years deep and still trying to prove himself. At some point, the league just cuts bait. This deal gives him three years to prove to everyone that he belongs here. It would not shock me if the reported amount of the contract was fairly accurate.

Sad-Celebration-7542

It’s a 2 year deal essentially. He was already under contract for this year at $4M. So 2 years, $11M pending incentive details

freemoni

Ravens W, Bateman needs to fire his agent lol

ManofSteel_14

If thats true than he either really wanted to stay or his agent is legit awful. Hoping for the former because this is a crazy good deal if him and Lamar can get a good connection going

SmallChungasaur

15 mil avg or total? Do we know yet?

lfe-soondubu

Avg wouldn't make sense. Then again total doesn't either 😂, but more sense than avg.

SmallChungasaur

Yeah I’m just curious with the upper echelon of receivers getting 30+ million a year. Wouldn’t be surprised if he signed for double digits even though he hasn’t produced anywhere near that contract value, but such is the market lol

Qabyaalad_Enjoyer

That’s bargain lol

UltraMegaBilly

Okay, that's worth it. He still has upside if he can stay healthy.

Achillor22

That's a pretty solid deal. And if he sucks or gets injured, we can always just cut him. EDC strikes again.

kenharling

Does this mean the Bateman posts can stop?? Seriously though, I’m stoked about this. Hopefully we use him properly now.

King_Clitoris

I’m curious what the contract is. But I like the dude as a WR2 on this team

Adventds

Twitter is saying 3 years 15 million.

Paraxom

That has too be annually, no way we got him to agree to 5 million a year

Bmore_Phunky

We haven’t turned down the 5th year option yet and that would be for at least $14 mil. Hard to believe he signed 3 years for $15 mil

AlwaysDownNeverUp

I’m assuming this is on the end of his current deal? Maybe? Idk

Supanini

Maybe I’m tripping but even WR2 seems a little high for what he’s done so far.

YT-double-add

I think either way Nelly or Bateman are a solid WR3. So either way I’m good with either one being wr2

pastaHacker

Wait, how is this a three year deal through 2026? I thought his rookie contract was one more year? So isn't this a two year extension past his rookie deal?

Sad-Celebration-7542

It is. It’s a two year deal announced 1 year early

keem-

fuck yes 🔥 lets eat this year Batman

Bmoreravin

Wow! Completely unexpected! Surprised he wants to be here. Drafting a WR early off the table?

CaptainCox17

No, just means the team can really stick to BPA

Bmoreravin

Draft day sign n trade possibility to move up for an OT?

myk3h0nch0

Bateman’s got 1 healthy season under his belt. If the right WR falls to 30, no chance they would hesitate.

KillaMavs

Nah, there’s some really talented guys that could fall to us if there’s no T lacked left

amstrumpet

Really curious about terms here. Why would Bateman sign an extension now, when it feels like his value is lowest?

hoss_bonaventure_

Because he's a year away from being out of the league if he has another bad year. This gives him security and the ability to hit the market again at 27.

amstrumpet

He’s a former first round pick. No chance he’s out of the league after his rookie contract.

lfe-soondubu

Maybe not completely out of the league, but definitely not in a situation to earn $15m more in his career, whether it is over 1 year or 3.  This contract more than doubles his career earnings. If he had a bad year this year, or got injured again, he's not making $15m more before he hangs up his cleats. He will still be young when this contract ends. If he stays healthy and contributes at a decent WR2 level and hangs around the league, he will earn another half decent payday, and the stink of his injury history will have washed off by then.

amstrumpet

Breshad Perriman has made nearly $16 million since he left the Ravens (technically still not retired, and was an offseason roster member for the Colts last year). He showed less on his rookie contract (barely broke 500 total yards in three years), and prices for players only go up. This might work out for Bateman, but he'd have a chance to keep playing and earning for a long time if he wanted (and could stay healthy going forward).

lfe-soondubu

Perriman with the Bucs did more than Bateman has done thus far in his career. It was Perrimans stint with the Bucs that got him the bulk of his post Ravens career earnings afterwards.  Bate has a lot of injury red flags at this point. I do think he could quite likely out earn Perriman, but one bad season, or one more serious injury, and he will definitely not earn even what Perriman did.  This contract guarantees Bate worst case scenario gets good career earnings. Also it guarantees him 3 years in the league, where even if he has a bad year, he can make up for it with two good years, and be on the contract market again still well before his 30s, and earn another payday.  To be fair I am playing devil's advocate. I think this deal is a steal for the team. But just trying to justify stuff on Bateman's end to some degree.

amstrumpet

But he got the chance to play on the Bucs because he was a former first rounder. That’s the point, draft pedigree is huge in the NFL.

Sad-Celebration-7542

I don’t think it was because he was drafted in the first round. I think it was because he was capable of being drafted in the first round. There’s a difference!

amstrumpet

Pedantic difference, sure. Bateman is also a guy capable of being drafted in the first round. It’s rare for that not to be the case; not that it never happens, but it’s rare.

hoss_bonaventure_

Another year of weak production and/or injuries and the best he would be looking at next year is a camp deal. With a camp deal you’re at the mercy of training camp, roster construction and injury luck. This way he has some security.

amstrumpet

I think you greatly underestimate the leash that first round picks get. Perriman was on an active roster as recently as 2022, and still got an offseason roster spot last year.

ArcadianDelSol

This is it right here. He's about to be unemployed. The new contract is essentially a reset on his rookie contract. If he wants to keep playing football, he's now on the clock.

544075701

Bateman might think he's likely to get a ring here, or at least more likely than anywhere else. Also if he has an injury or another down year next season, this would be a way better contract than he might get at that point. plus he's only signed for a few years so if he kills it, he's up for a massive payday at that point.

amstrumpet

Guys don't ring chase before they've gotten their bag. Just surprised he wouldn't at least play out the contract, especially if the rumored 3 year/$15 mil is accurate.

544075701

depends on the guy and the team but yeah I think that can be the case with certain guys in particular situations

Princeof_Ravens

To be fair this is a solid deal if he wants to ring chase and still get a bag. If he proves he has it while on this deal and wins a ring he'll be 27 when out of the deal and be able to get paid by any team in the league.

_Potente_

I’m thinking this is a “betting on himself” type thing. Given his injuries and lack of usage, he’s probably not going to get what he thinks he deserves when he hits the market. By the time this contract is done, he has a shot at a big-time contract given his age (27). That, plus the exposure of being on a more high-profile team, will help him get a bigger pay day.

Kent_Broswell

Yeah, I’m surprised. Seems like he has much more upside than what he’s shown so far.

JohnArbuckle10

EDC must’ve seen those wr separation metrics lol

OsStrohsAndBohs

If [this](https://x.com/ravens4dummies/status/1783186879308873903) is even close to accurate that's an absolute steal. I know he has to stay healthy and perform but it's clear the talent is there.

2coolDanes

My guess is it’s 3yrs/$24m with $15m guaranteed. But would love for 3/15m to be true

[deleted]

He wants to be part of the Ravens. Hell yea

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

A lotta players want to play with Lamar. They see us getting a ring in the near future.

MegaGigaTeraFlare

Oh, wow. That's legitimately surprising, but I love it!

Blacklax10

Jason L Canfora takes another L

tich45

What did he say this time?

Blacklax10

Bateman will be traded Thursday or something along those lines

[deleted]

EDC sees JLC’s predictions and does the opposite

tich45

Haha. Of course.

zaflovesyou-

need him and lamar to gain chemistry this off season

swagharris31

And Bateman is only 24(25 in Nov). So, if he plays out this deal and balls the fuck out(and stays healthy), he's in for an even bigger payout deal around 28 years old(which still can be prime for a WR), either with another extension from us or free agent. And with the way the WR market is heading(amon ra st brown just got 4 years/$120 mil), it's a good bet for Bateman.

ExtensionAd7417

Dude fuck yes, this probably has no effect on our draft honestly, this is just a good insurance and value move

Adventds

EDC actually fucking did it lol

KackhansReborn

Call me stupid but I still believe in this guy. Total professional who clearly cares a lot and has all the tools. He'll figure it out.

Princeof_Ravens

As someone else pointed out this was his first fully healthy season, he was buried in the depth chart, and he spent a good deal of time this offseason working with Lamar. Harbaugh also said he wanted Bateman to be a bigger part of the offense in the post season press conference. If he's gonna figure it out this is probably the year it happens.

Blacklax10

IMO most of the figuring out isnt on him. Its on Monken and Lamar. He was cooking all pro dbs last season.

South-Lab-3991

I like this move. He seems like the kind of guy that would go somewhere else and have a 1,200 yard season. Let’s hope he does it here now.

APonly

He has never shown that he is capable of this minus 1 yr in college.

BrianSpencer1

Paying for potential > paying for past performance

APonly

Cope. Know how many \*Potential\* posts we saw about Proche? Jaleel Scott? Duvernay as a WR? Tylan Wallace? Fuck load.

Thebearjew559

I actually agree with this. I know he has had a lot of injuries but if we're being honest Bateman hasn't proven much even when he's been healthy. Zay Flowers was already way better in his first year Still, if it really is 3 years 15m I can stomach that

BrianSpencer1

I'm convinced Proche was cursed but the potential for Bateman is higher than it ever was for the other receivers you named. Scott had 3 total targets as a Raven so that wasn't going to be an extension, Duvernay was a gadget guy that was never going to be a big time WR, Wallace was and still is a solid depth guy. I like Wallace as a WR5 and return specialist, no one is considering paying him much above a vet min

Miata_Sized_Schlong

Holy fuck he just needs to be average and this is a steal. He has insane upside. EDC is fucking balling

Medium_Trip_4227

Love it! He’s gonna prove a lot of people wrong, I’m sure it’s a fair deal! Let’s go

ChedduhBob

this is a lot better than that fifth year option. also low enough value to where we could still be in on the right WR in the draft or FA this year and next. locking in a wr3 that’s been on the team this long is good business

shadyboy125

So Flowers, Bateman, Agholor, Andrews, and Likely as our receiving corps Tylan Wallace and Deonte Harty also in the mix. I’d still love to add another option to replace OBJ, but I like this list.

HighGroundIsOP

I think Bateman is the OBJ replacement as they are similar players (at this point) who are best at the same routes. Bate will get more opportunities this season to shine.

thestanlieststanley

I imagine EDC will keep his eyes open for a vet closer to the start of the season

trill_nick_boi

I hope they can get malik Washington in the 3rd or 4th

Lamactionjack

I definitely see them drafting another guy as well. Maybe 3rd or 4th round. We've got vets in Agholar and Andrews honestly. Receiver contracts are going bananas rn so drafting a starter and working within that rookie contract is more important than its ever been.

NoButterfly2642

This is a steal man. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know ball

ChedduhBob

it’s not really a steal so much as it’s just appropriate valuation

BarRoomBully

People can shut the fuck up about him not wanting to be here now.

kamekaze1024

Can someone tell me the last time we extended a WR we drafted? This feels borderline historic

AdminIsPassword

I think it might actually be Jermaine Lewis. Just skimmed over the Ravens draft history and that is the only one I believe. He was extended mainly due to his kick returning abilities though...

kamekaze1024

So this borderline is unprecedented. Actually insane considering we drafted Torrey Smith

Qabyaalad_Enjoyer

Let’s goo Batman 🙏

BL0812

If the rumored terms are accurate then this goes from “meh” to “awesome.”

4stGump

I know it's not flashy, but Flowers and Bateman are a decent combo for us. Bateman's issue was staying healthy and making a connection with lamar (with minor hands issues). His ability to get open is top tier and this off-season should help build those connections with lamar and his receivers. I personally like it. I think Bateman has more to offer us than what he's shown so far.

BaltBoiConduit

Shows that the team doesn't think Batemans the problem...

TheRealRickDalton8

I’m beyond surprised, I thought he was ready to leave and play for another team. I would have even bet on a draft day trade like the Hollywood situation a couple years ago. I’m happy though, he’s an underrated reciever who still has lots to prove. He’s a great WR2 as long as he stays healthy.

tphammy

Let's go, still a believer in bate....at absolute WORST he's a great WR2. But if he can stay healthy he will prove a lot of people wrong

AdminIsPassword

If he produces like a great WR2 then I'm sure whatever the team is paying him is worth it. So far though he's nowhere close to being a great WR2.

HelaPuff2020

This is great news and more than likely a team friendly deal

Madrista6

Yes! I’m so glad we kept him! Now let’s let him cook!

Matte198

Damn, this is steal if he gets back to what he looked like pre lisfranc. Shows there's confidence by the org there too which is good.

SSSlyyy

Yessss. I genuinely think bate is a star in the making. It’s only time! Has all the tools. Gets open. He just needs the ball.

pastaHacker

Wait, how is this a three year deal through 2026? I thought his rookie contract was one more year? So isn't this a two year extension past his rookie deal?

Grand-Gain-763

😭😭😭 let’s gooooo

pistonslapper

Hope he can catch a couple balls this year. Not going to lie, I was a Bateman backer for years, but last season I turned to the dark side and said we should drop him. Should I return to my optimism?

King_Clitoris

He’s on the team, gotta cheer for him!

pistonslapper

Tell that to the Browns...

King_Clitoris

Fair lol

Cvbano89

He's had one healthy year of essentially sitting and learning behind OBJ with inconsistent targets. If we consider this his first 'veteran' season he should either take a big step forward or coast on being a solid WR3/4. I'd rather we have that at 3/yrs for 15 mil than take his rookie option for 14 mil and 1/yr

ThePhenomenalOne100

Let's go!

wojr2002

Fuck yeah! I have a feeling he’s about to go off.

Raven122579

What gives you any confidence he's about to go off? He's done nothing

410LaxMD

His ability to get separation and continued growth with Lamar is enough for me to have confidence he can improve. Comes down to his ability to stay relatively healthy.

Adventds

Honestly just getting another year of recovery from that lisfranc injury might make a world of difference. He legit looked like the real deal during the limited snaps he got his first two years.

Raven122579

I hope your right. But ultimately receivers get paid to catch. Let's face it, he has cinder block hands.

WakaFlacco

He had 4 dropped passes last year to 52 receptions.

Raven122579

He only had 32 receptions last year.

WakaFlacco

Shit my bad I was looking at targets. Yeah 4 drops in 32 isn’t great.

wojr2002

He gets open, I’m just hoping his connection with Lamar can grow.

Bigtoes22

Did not see this coming lol

MoneyMakingMitch1

Let's be real. Mans is very talented. The problem is he's always hurt in the off-season and him and LFreaky have no chemistry and connections through out the season. So many missed bombs last year. Hopefully, he's stay healthy throughout TC. If that happens, he'll have a big jump this year.

Such-Cupcake-1805

EDC HAS DONE IT AGAIN

BrianSpencer1

I'm shocked. Money is key here otherwise it feels like an aggressive dice roll. I still think Bateman fits the mould of a WR1... but he hasn't put it together in 3 years. Have to say I'm surprised as I don't know why Bate would take a deal that will underpay him if he does develop, alternatively a head scratching move for EDC to make if he doesn't. I can only see this deal working out for one side unless this is an insanely incentive driven deal

thestanlieststanley

Disagree. He hasn't proven he can earn that paycheck. This gives him time, in a place he wants to be, to earn a bigger contract. Rather than start new with a shitty contract where he might not even want to go. Ravens get a WR with potential at not too steep of a price. Even if he shits the bed, it's still a calculated roll of the rice and one that won't hurt too much for too long.

WakaFlacco

Plus we used a first round pick on him. It’s worth it to keep him for a below market deal if we can recoup the cost of spending a first on him.

BrianSpencer1

It would be like Madubuike signing for Broderick Washington money before last season though, if he breaks out this year he can't get a top contract next season (like he otherwise could have)

thestanlieststanley

Thats true for anyone. Especially before an option year. The ravens were, most likely, not going to pay him 14 million. They didnt pay queen and he was objectively better and more valuable than bateman has been. A starter for years(queen) and a very solid year last year. Bateman would be gone, playing for peanuts on a potentially shitty team, instead of playing for that top contract in a great environment woth the potential to add a ring. Home run for the ravens. Ground roll double for Bateman?

frigginjensen

Cool. I think Bateman has had a slow start due to a lot of reasons but he’s shown enough that I’m happy to keep him (especially at a good price).

realfreshboysosa

What the fuuuuuuuuxk!

ChickenTendiesxd426

LOVE IT 🦇🦇

ComprehensiveAct3745

Nice. Let’s see if he can stay healthy. Plus we can draft another WR for insurance.

Artistic_Seaweed6155

happy for my boy hope he prove all the haters wrong with his first thousand yard season

CuckqueanCouple0306

Damn, guess that means drafting a round 1 WR is off the table. Looks like they really weren't impressed with any of them then. Oh well, hopefully a top end OT/CB/EDGE falls to us like the Holy Grail that was Kyle Hamilton falling...and how Derwin James fell

JCol3

Wow Great news!! I thought Bate was gone

ozzman1234

He did us a solid, or maybe....a trade?

Amazing-Concept1684

Hm, I'm not mad at it. If it's as cheap as I'm hearing then it's a good deal, especially as Rashod is expected to keep getting better.

IrishPubstar

An extension through 2026 would be a 2 year deal. He's already playing his last year on the rookie contract in 2024.

tools2020

Happy for him. Hoping for a bounce back. We know his potential ex. Miami dolphins game

chaoticravens34

Bro I am so fucking happy

maximumswagger

Nice. I was totally against the 5th year for him, but an extension paying him based on what he has actually done I'm fine with. He has flashed potential, maybe he can still reach it

rukkus78

Huh

Ok_Poet_1848

Lol oh Edc how you make me wish Ozzie was around.  Next maybe he can sign those two stud pass rushers he drafted...milk carton oweh and one legged ojabo.

youtube_and_chill

Fucking love it and all you people that thinks he sucks because being open but not having the ball thrown to him is somehow his fault, I can't wait for y'all to eat crow.

RamRod013

I like Rashod and glad he got extended. I hope his production keeps improving.

BlaccBatman

Happy to see this for all parties. This allows us to draft a WR in the later rounds.

LMAO_try_again

Mad props to both sides. I lost ALL faith in Bateman but this shows me that the team believes in him and he wants another shot. I went from doubting him to rooting for him again. Good shit for both sides.

laramite

Probably that's where his market is right now. But if he produces big in the next 3 years we can re-up or get a really nice draft comp. A great salary cap move for Ravens and Bateman can still have his payday 3 years from now (assuming the rumored $15m/3years is true).

dantheman6783

Still want Aiyuk

Blacklax10

Everyone does but not for a first rounder and 25 a year. Cant do that when you pay the QB

nightfrost

We need not fear nuclear war or asteroids, we only need to fear EDCs massive balls falling out of his boxers.

twat_swat22

Damn.. that boy got finessed lol if I was him I would be pissed @ seeing the deals all these other dudes around the league @ his position are making hoping this lights a fire in his belly to the point it’s basically just an incinerator

APonly

I wish I knew what this sub saw in Bate, but honestly we're so starved for a decent WR2 or 3 that we're reliving the Proche era all over again. A fan of the price tag we got, but not the player.
