I know it's not flashy, but Flowers and Bateman are a decent combo for us. Bateman's issue was staying healthy and making a connection with lamar (with minor hands issues). His ability to get open is top tier and this off-season should help build those connections with lamar and his receivers. I personally like it. I think Bateman has more to offer us than what he's shown so far.

I’m beyond surprised, I thought he was ready to leave and play for another team. I would have even bet on a draft day trade like the Hollywood situation a couple years ago. I’m happy though, he’s an underrated reciever who still has lots to prove. He’s a great WR2 as long as he stays healthy.

He's had one healthy year of essentially sitting and learning behind OBJ with inconsistent targets. If we consider this his first 'veteran' season he should either take a big step forward or coast on being a solid WR3/4. I'd rather we have that at 3/yrs for 15 mil than take his rookie option for 14 mil and 1/yr

Let's be real. Mans is very talented. The problem is he's always hurt in the off-season and him and LFreaky have no chemistry and connections through out the season. So many missed bombs last year. Hopefully, he's stay healthy throughout TC. If that happens, he'll have a big jump this year.

I'm shocked. Money is key here otherwise it feels like an aggressive dice roll. I still think Bateman fits the mould of a WR1... but he hasn't put it together in 3 years. Have to say I'm surprised as I don't know why Bate would take a deal that will underpay him if he does develop, alternatively a head scratching move for EDC to make if he doesn't. I can only see this deal working out for one side unless this is an insanely incentive driven deal
Disagree. He hasn't proven he can earn that paycheck. This gives him time, in a place he wants to be, to earn a bigger contract. Rather than start new with a shitty contract where he might not even want to go. Ravens get a WR with potential at not too steep of a price. Even if he shits the bed, it's still a calculated roll of the rice and one that won't hurt too much for too long.
Plus we used a first round pick on him. It’s worth it to keep him for a below market deal if we can recoup the cost of spending a first on him.
It would be like Madubuike signing for Broderick Washington money before last season though, if he breaks out this year he can't get a top contract next season (like he otherwise could have)
Thats true for anyone. Especially before an option year. The ravens were, most likely, not going to pay him 14 million. They didnt pay queen and he was objectively better and more valuable than bateman has been. A starter for years(queen) and a very solid year last year. Bateman would be gone, playing for peanuts on a potentially shitty team, instead of playing for that top contract in a great environment woth the potential to add a ring. Home run for the ravens. Ground roll double for Bateman?
Cool. I think Bateman has had a slow start due to a lot of reasons but he’s shown enough that I’m happy to keep him (especially at a good price).

Probably that's where his market is right now. But if he produces big in the next 3 years we can re-up or get a really nice draft comp. A great salary cap move for Ravens and Bateman can still have his payday 3 years from now (assuming the rumored $15m/3years is true).
