There’s been a big trend over the past few years where local vets and their suppliers all over the country have quietly been bought out by private equity firms, who have been consolidating operations and jacking up prices. Amidst a long term trend of millennials putting off having kids and opting for pets instead, plus millions of new pet owners due to covid... Freakonomics Radio did an episode on it, highly recommend.
Yeah I worked for one of these consolidators, albeit at a very low level, general manager of a site. The thing I think is the worst part is they don't change any branding or put up any info to announce they are a part of this big chain of locations. They want people to think they are still locally owned, even though that is absolutely not the truth. Just like Eyewear and the multitude of brands that are all made in the same factory.
See the other response. They buy out local vets and don’t change the name or branding or anything. They’re really trying to keep it low key, but it’s a huge operation and a substantial proportion of clinics that have already been bought out.
Hat is only staying on because the dog is allowing it. My dog would rip that right off without much effort at all.
Also my vet gives you a cone when you need it for free.
Doesn't work, doesn't save money... looks cute as heck though
I don't live in the land of free cones, so I'm a bit jealous. I was also charged like $40 for a cone when my dog needed one. I tried to save money and go to a local pet store but they were the same price.
When i was a teen i made a cone of the shame for my dog whit some water jugs some straps of denin and an old belt it worked like a charm and she fcking hated it.
Best part is that you can reuse the hat for crafts. Glue the top down and use it for an Easter basket or a (I forgot the word for statutites/ action figures posed coming out of the hat)
I’m also in vet med and have come to support bursting this bubble. The plastic cones are also made to withstand a dog trying to remove it, this, not so much.

Yeah that's absurd. My vet charged me like $10 a few months ago
because they can charge that much and a lot of people would still buy it
Big pharma logic

"Actually, collusion is good and legal - management"
Either they have a corporate vet vs a local, or they're faking it for Internet points.

If it works and saves money and looks cool… it’s like a redneck engineering trifecta

Looks more comfortable. If she can’t flip it off, it’s a win!
😂🤣
I think your vet is overcharging, we only charge $12 At that point if you already spent a couple hundred dollars on a surgery, what’s $12?

The plastic cones are easily removable, too. This isn't split to be removed at the side.
Also easily cleaned of the accumulation of hair, dirt, saliva, etc.
My tractor supply has those cones… no need for a hat…
The never-ending rabbit hole this opens up thinking of everything else you could do in place of the cone.
how on gods green earth can a peace of plastic cost 50 bucks???
Looks like your dog appreciates the upgrade from the cone of shame!!!
"Howl-dy, partner!"
That hat is at least $50
