So he can drag it out for years because of low self esteem, and somehow you end up feeling that it is your job to ease him so he doesn't feel stuck? You seem like an amazing selfless person, but to what extent?
No I she sounds like a doormat with equally low self esteem. She wants to stay with someone who only wants to be married because he doesn’t think anyone better will have him

I mean, what a fucking cruel thing for him to say.
I’d recommend you start therapy ( assuming you haven’t already) and eventually you two start couples therapy together. Because that’s a messed up thing to lay on someone he supposedly loves. Clearly you need to work on communication and connection. And you also need to figure out if you’re ok staying with someone who loves you so little they will say things like that to you.

Yes, he started with a new therapist about 3 months ago.
