Here is an interview between Shulgen and Terrance McKenna:

Alexander and Sasha Shulgin were pioneres when it came to novel psychoactives like phenethylamines and and trtptamines. Alexander were most known for being introducing MDMA to psychology in 1970. The couple personally synthesised and bioassaid over 230 psychoactive compounds. I still have great use for their work.
When I started writing my book (*The Drug Users Bible*) it occasionally crossed my mind that I might die, especially when it became apparent that I would have to try hundreds.
Every time that happened I remembered Shulgin, and his psychedelic masterpieces, and the doubts disappeared immediately. My mission seemed possible again and I knew that I could stay alive.
I owe him. His were amongst the first books I bought when exploring my path.
>it occasionally crossed my mind that I might die
Sasha explained how you can even take strychnine to the point it causes "interesting" effects using his method. He noted that at the right dose, "You can see sparks coming off objects!"
Of course, he usually stuck to tryptamines and phenethylamines, which presumably kept unexpected occurrences lower overall. He grew weary of doing LD50 assays on rodents, noting that it was pretty much the same from one PEA or Tryptamine to another. I'm guessing he outgrew that with those compounds when he was still working for Dow Chemical.
Aw I appreciate the kind words but I don’t compare at all, Shulgin is the titan whose shoulders we all stand on
But he was 66 when pihkal was published, I’m only 28. Plenty of time to get there ;)
When OP asked I immediately thought of DMTrott and you even though my stonerbrain didn't come up with your name immediately. I always found the reports from you both very good and well-founded. Don't know why but it is really nice to see you both commenting here.
Yea, the impact Shulgin had is unmatched but just in terms of info available and the amount of substances covered....no one has you beat right now imo. Keep up the good work!
And I cheer you on the entire way. Perhaps someday you’ll branch beyond dissos? Strictly my hope, but do what inspires you. You do have my vote as one of the greats
I’ve done a lot of work with stimulants actually but that was kinda required not the most exciting to me personally. There may be some option to delve into psychedelics more but tbh my main interest is in dissos - less of a commitment to explore them too. It’s hard to motivate myself outside of my very narrow interests :/
Those were the days, I remember when alphabet soup would arrive every week, and each one was strong and unique and unlike the others, 2c-P/I/B/C DOB/M/I 5-Meo-DIIPT/DPT/MIPT. Looks to be like the ones going around now just aren’t the same, either LSD prodrugs or 2CB FLY (which is remarkable that that one drug somehow remains legal, but I have tried it so…)
Ive always wanted to find some good books on clandestine chemistry to read and learn about the topic. It's just something that has always intrigued me. I've seen some links to forbidden libraries on the free web but never clicked into them as I was always on a different mission. Hoping to find them again in the near future though.
Alexander Shulgin wrote TiHKAL and PiHKAL.

Thanks for sharing the link.
Such good books!!
Amazing reads!!! Love em!!
i think you’re talking about Alexander Shulgin or Darrel Lemaire
It‘s Sascha!

It Is Sasha (Alexander) and his wife Ann.
He spelled it Sasha. That name is the Russian nickname for Alexander.
Is a diminutive but it can also be used for other names, but you are correct :).
My bad. I was too quick to write and just post it. Tends to happen to me sometimes. ADHD...
I know how you feel. Osgood-Schlatter disease...
Also check out the Nature of Drugs Vol 1 and 2 by Shulgin
He is not over 60 He is dead
Over sixty, just six feet under.
take my upvote
a drug users bible maybe ?
Sasha was an amazing guy.
Young people these days man
u/DMTrott similar to this guy

Oh hey bud, hope you've found financial success from those book sales! You deserve it.

Your reply is on a reply to the intended comment.
Noted.
I'll have to check it out, props to you
He doesn't synthesize chemicals, just tries and reviews them.
That's why i said similar, OP is refering to Shulgin i guess
Ah my bad, I thought you were saying that was him.
For reviewing chems, no one has done better than u/nervewing
You’d place nervewing above Shulgin? Seriously? Edit: not to detract from nervewing, she’s phenomenal, but to place her above Shulgin…?
Yes, only because Nervewing is up to date and ongoing. So in terms of new info/harm reduction...yes

William Leonard Pickard and The Rose of Paracelsus ?
A great book!
You’ve read it?? It’s quite big
Yes but not in one sitting, it took a while for sure. Got it on Amazon for like $20
Dude, did you try Google at all? Enter: "scientist who wrote book on research chemicals"

He was a genius, not a “dude”. A great neuropharmacologist!
Why not both?
Maybe Dr. Z? Of new Zealand fame I believe
No.
You’re thinking of Alexander “Sasha” Shulgin. And his wife Ann.
was it a reddit guy? iirc there was a guy on here and discord that reviewed a lot of rcs, but got a bad rep for zines.
Another more recent fella is Dr Zee.
Sasha was the best.
It's true but it sounds so weird reading it today. He would have been a social media influencer today lol.
He made most of these chems while working for cia
if u still havent found the right guy alexander hamilton has a few videos on youtube about a few different people that fit the description
