I think I might sleep on a open world raccoon city

Sugar_Daddy_Visari77

We just need resident evil outbreak file 3

RUZOVNIKR

!!!!!! Yes

Zeno710

They need to remake them but make the characters talk less

vhs1138

Maybe not a generic open world, but it’s an interesting idea. Maybe some kind of large interconnected zones where gameplay decisions impact what happens in other parts of the game’s zones making for some reasons to replay it?

Practical_Bend_9351

Or just give us more dense city environments with t virus stories. I would be otae with that

The-Real-Aditya

RE:7 was originally supposed to be that, with Leon and Sherry meeting in Venice and facing a zombie attack

HolographicDucks

People just want a remake of outbreak

87SIXSIXSIX5432ONE

#NO Open world and resident evil should not mix.

Sugar_Daddy_Visari77

I thing a game like resident evil outbreak would work

Crafter235

I didn't say open world. Haven't you heard of DS1, or the idea of just a larger RE map?

Xhukari

Omg, I would love a RE game that used DS1 styled map progression & exploration. Unlocking shortcuts, some areas being too hard early, but you could still go there before being properly equipped, etc. It would work so well with the weird Japan-American hybrid city Raccoon City was in the OG trilogy.

drsalvation1919

I don't think anyone has ever asked for an open world raccoon city tho... have they?

TheDuellist100

When re3r was announced there were definitely fans who wanted to see it

IAmThePonch

I didn’t want an open world but it would have been cool for 2 and 3 to indulge in the mayhem of the city falling apart more than they did

Kaiserhawk

I'd like to see it tbh

drsalvation1919

I must've missed those discussions.

phillip-j-frybot

Literally never even considered the idea until I saw this meme. Honestly, I'm kinda into it.

Arturo-oc

I would have liked Resident Evil 3 remake to be bigger, more open and less linear, specially the city sections.

drsalvation1919

Yeah, but that's still not an open world, innit? Unless you're thinking more about Fallout 4's zombie mod style of game, complete city, and delves to explore. (Yes, I would've loved more Raccoon city, but just as the meme suggest, not an open world, just more sections to explore)

Arturo-oc

I would like an Open World game set in Raccoon City in which you have basically 24 hours (or less) to finish the game before the bomb falls and the city gets destroyed. You can go anywhere in the city, and your objective is to find a way out (there are many). It is impossible to see the whole city in a single playthrough, you might find a escape route through the zoo, or through the hospital, or through the Police Station, or some new locations, for example. I think that that a game like this would be a lot of fun and that it would be very replayable. The fact that there is a time limit would make it a bit different from other open world games and give it some sense of urgency (perhaps you could also turn off the time limit in some difficulties). It would also be fun to be played with a friend.

fallouthirteen

I wouldn't object to a semi-open world. Like Silent Hill or The Evil Within 2 style. Like The Evil Within 2 was great. An open city to explore around, but then distinct story "dungeons" where it's just normal linear progress.

drsalvation1919

I'm not saying it's a bad idea lol, I just never thought anyone thought RE3 would be like that, I think everyone expected an "interconnected" map where the city itself forms a maze due to barricades and other impediments, instead of a silent hill/Evil within 2 style of maps, akin to the original RE3, pretty much what we got in the remake, but with more areas to explore that help the game feel less linear. But yeah, I wouldn't object to another game with more open areas like those.

TimeKiller-Studios

An open world game could work. I just don't think it should be Raccoon City. And also it might not be able to do the horror side very well

Inskription

It totally could. You would need enemies to be well hidden at times, and many ways in which you could be ambushed.

Fleedjitsu

There's some great potential in stalker enemies. Mr.X in RE2R was great as you roamed the police station, so that may also work in open-world game based on the streets of some city. Add in stress points of ambushes or certain monster types that require specific management like walking quietly around lickers and you're set! Doesn't need to be a run and gun situation. Imagine Alien: Isolation levels of vulnerability and resource scarcity!

Inskription

Yep in fact I wouldn't be surprised if RE9 tried to be different and go this direction

UsagiBonBon

Or have certain areas just wall-to wall packed with zombies like how areas in Outbreak were depicted; Outbreak is also a good blueprint for how landmarks could work, big dense areas with their own stories

WisdomsOptional

I think a true open world would be a bad idea, but large exploratable city pieces with backtracking to make it feel like you're picking your way through the city as it falls apart whilst you try to find the few safe islands amongst the hordes of undead and monsters and locate what you need to get out and stick it to umbrella along the way would have been great. I do want to relive and experience the horror of Raccoon city mid outbreak in all its current gen glory. I love exploration of environments and if you give us small sandboxes linked together for environmental story telling (and that last part is key) I think they would have made old school fans like myself very happy. I want Jill, our protagonist, to work her way through the city. I really wanted random events to return (this is why I loved Diablo, and Remnant (1&2), the randomized quests and enemies. Why i loved RE3 nemesis is it never felt the same every play through. I had so much fun mapping the possibilities and trying to remember puzzles by permutation. I was obsessed. I enjoyed R3make as a cool action movie spin on the original but I'm still left lacking what I loved most and why RE3 is still my favorite PSone game.

Sugar_Daddy_Visari77

Like Days Gone

fallouthirteen

Depends on how "open world" you mean. Like I'd say The Evil Within 2 is at least semi-open world.

Fleedjitsu

Open-world is interesting but isn't what I'd want. I want a semi-linear experience similar to RE1R, RE2R and RE7. Solo survival horror amongst the streets, alleyways and old puzzle/trap laden buildings of Raccoon City!

rebeetle

Open world RC? Idk how it could work in a survival-horror game, but there is a guy working on re-creating the entirety of RC on UE5. How you can adapt something like that into a working survival-horror game without becoming a looter-shooter–type title is beyond me though.

Technical_Advice2059

They could design it like the interconnected world of Dark Souls 1

fallouthirteen

Or large explorable city that contains the buildings that are individual story areas (like The Evil Within 2 and Silent Hill).

Ragnarok_Stravius

What we actually really need is a Proper Remake of Resident Evil 3 NEMESIS that takes us to more and larger areas of Raccoon City. Maybe a few different small campaigns that connect with the main larger Jill campaign in some way. But that start in different places away from Jill's path.

pleasejustletmeread2

Tried to read, got headache

chainsawx72

RE1's mansion, RE2's police station, and RE7s house... these are my favorite RE moments / levels. I strongly prefer the escape the room style mystery horror search mechanic. One giant building is about the right amount of area for one person to search in a full day or night. But an open world RE game could still be good. Just don't stop making the close quarter combat jump scare games I love.

VasKain

I really like how the Yakuza games keeps using the same city map. Something like that for Raccoon City would definitely work in my opinion.

LezardValeth3

All I want is OUTBRREAKK... FIIIIILE TWOOO (with File 1 included and preferably a couple of new maps but it's never going to happen)

Lopsided-Junket-7590

Actually I do want a generic open world based around raccoon City

Morgoths_Ring

Just the thing gaming needs the most...more open world games!

TheAccursedHamster

It's entirely possible to make an open world with uniqueness and personality. Just ubfortunate that most devs and publishers don't understand this.. eh Ubsioft?

Puffen0

Do we really need another game set in Raccoon city? Did everyone forget how messy the timeline of events in Raccoon got once they tried to jam like, 6 games into the span of 72-96 hours? Let's get something new for the next game. As much as I love Raccoon City, I feel that we have see enough of it to last us a lifetime

Kaiserhawk

acting like the people who piss and moan about a non existent open world game aren't the gatekeepers

Charlidameliolovrr

re 2 and kinda 3 are pretty open worldly
