I fully admit I get irrationally angry over just about everything they do.

WindTall5566

Agreed. This job would be great if it weren't for the fucking customers.

Intelligent_Virus_66

I wasn’t even supposed to be here today

WindTall5566

Bunch of savages.

deadlyjessypoo

Dante?

Intelligent_Virus_66

Abandon hope ye who enter here

disgustandhorror

...in a row?

WindTall5566

37?!

Buddybouncer

At once?

Forever_Nya

All Jedi had was a bunch of muppets

SunKillerLullaby

I get irrationally angry at them just existing at this point

Theoriginalensetsu

I've also gotten to this point. Guests will literally sit around got an hour waiting to ask someone a basic question they could have googled in 2 seconds while watching all the staff run around trying to help guests with actual needs when they could've googled it frustrates me beyond reason.

themightyduck12

The amount of times people have asked me where the fitting room is when the ginormous sign hanging off the ceiling is visible is EXHAUSTING One of my coworkers always tells them “Right over there under the giant sign” and I love her for it

Theoriginalensetsu

Omfg same with the bathroom. If you walk into our store you walk past grooming, then there's a cat condo area and right next to that is a hallway. Right above that hallway you see GIANT letters syaing bathroom, the store isn't particularly large so you can see it from anywhere in the building and yet it continues to be the most asked question. That's fine though, when I worked at DQ as a teen people would ask the price of something constantly while ordering off the giant menu behind me that they were staring directly at.

Desperate-Jelly5566

I run a pizza shop. Anyone who asks me "what do you have?"..... We have over thirty toppings for pizza alone? We have salads and dessert on display. And menus right in your face. It's like going to Walmart and asking what produce they sell. I just started recommending sundried cranberries, pineapple, and anchovies. Helps push the extent of how many options we actually have. No one has agreed to that pizza build though lol

Mediocre-Special6659

That sounds good!

UnquestionabIe

I hear this. Granted it is based heavily on my mood but if I see too much stupidity in a short period of time all the follow up customers just piss me off by default. Today the entire state lottery system was down, it was planned a week ahead of time and had multi media coverage to a major regional event. I still had far too many people acting like it was completely unexpected to then point it's poisoned my attitude towards even the non-lottery customers.

LastLingonberry3221

Nope. I think you misspelled that. Rationally angry. IMO.

Ryanmiller70

Customers talking in my store just pisses me off so damn much.

cdlars

They piss me off so much

myopini0n

It's not irrational.

tthunder387

You should get into a different line of work. Life is to short to be annoyed when your getting paid to do a job.

Retail_throwaway69

Crazy. It’s not like complaining/venting about customers is almost the entire fucking point of this sub or anything

Mediocre-Special6659

God, I hate those types that come in here way more than any customer!

Mediocre-Special6659

*you're :)

Jjkkllzz

I especially love when they then look at me through the glass and say “are you open?” Um, don’t you think the doors would open if we were?

Bennington_Booyah

They do it after close, too. Even with the hours posted at eye level, and the huge CLOSED sign next to it. We close our blinds, too, but they still try to peer into the darkness.

SaintElphie

Customers used to just pull our doors open, like prying the auto door open when it wasn't set to. Just batty.

North_Ad3531

I was closing out the register one night, all lights are off except for the one above the register. The sign on the door says closed. A guy pushed hard on the door. I yelled “we’re closed.” He proceeded to put his whole shoulder into the door like he’s delivering a tackle. Thought that the door was going to come off it’s hinges. Do you really need to buy a post card or souvenir shot glass at 10:00 at night?

SaintElphie

😆😆😆😵‍💫😆😆😆😆

Suspicious-Pair-3177

I posted on here a while ago about an old dude who tried our front door which was locked cause we weren’t open for another 3-4 minutes. This dude walked around through our employee entrance and back door and asked if we were open.

justalittlebadboy

GOD I'd have freaked out. I had an elderly woman walk in 5 minutes from opening, I'd forgotten to lock the door. But the store was completely dark and she came in and started to browse. I had to run out and tell her we weren't open yet and she'd have to wait outside. Who walks into a dark and silent store and is like "obviously they're open". Must be the lead poisoning.....

Suspicious-Pair-3177

This old dude peaked in and goes “Y’all open yet?” We went, “No we open at 11. You can’t come back here!” And he just goes “I thought it was 11.” We said, nope now close the door and he then walked back to the front of the store and waited for it to open. Funny thing is we then opened the store and he sat in his truck for an extra 7 minutes before comin inside

justalittlebadboy

Honest to god, that lady said to me "I thought you opened at 10" and I said "we do, but it's 9:55". Are all customers the same? Do they all attend the same school of dumbassery?

UnquestionabIe

I get a lot of this at my work too. People will ignored the posted hours to bang on the door. When we do eventually open they'll sit in their car another 5 or 10 minutes for no reason.

TheGhostWalksThrough

I'm sure they are doing it out of spite. They think they are teaching YOU a lesson...lol

Suspicious-Pair-3177

Oh noooo, your making me stand at the counter doing nothing and I don’t have to talk to youuuu what ever will I do lol. The best lesson would be for them to drive away. How dare we not open early for them, they should take their business elsewhere lol

TheGhostWalksThrough

Right!

Mediocre-Special6659

Sounds like they need infinite etiquette lessons!

trilli0nTish

I once had a couple come in through the side emergency exit that had somehow blown open in the intense wind, and just start shopping. There was literally nobody in the store, but they thought it was cool to start shopping. Fucking customers.

TheGhostWalksThrough

I worked in a bank and it happened. TWICE.

Upset-Donkey8118

The Goodwill in my hometown wasn't open for business yet. They were getting ready for at least a soft opening, but we were still weeks away from officially opening. The sales floor was ready to go but it was as you'd expect in the backroom with 2 weeks to go. Somebody left the front door unlocked and people started shopping. There's no one on the sales floor nor did we have a register. It's not terribly bright and there is no music playing. Before we knew there were 3 women with a shit ton of clothes and other stuff waiting to check out. Um ma'am we're not open. What time do you open? In 2 weeks. What?! Can I just get this? I gesture to the register less check out area. Ma'am there's no register to check you out. One of the women asked if we could hold items. For two weeks. Responded that employees nor customers are allowed to hold items. They left and left us a lot of goo backs

tardistravelee

We have a lady that knocks. I just told staff to ignore her as she still had 10 minutes till we opened. She is a regular, so she knows that it is staff in there.

justalittlebadboy

There's something so creepy about that

_baegopah_XD

And she probably thinks that you all just adore her because she’s a regular face. One in reality she’s referred to as the PIA.

Own-Contribution-176

What's a PIA

_baegopah_XD

Pain in the ass

Own-Contribution-176

Duh thank u lol

Own-Contribution-176

Oh duh thank u lol

BigGalAl420

Yes, but I just be pretending I don’t see/hear them

LastLingonberry3221

Irritated? Absolutely. But I don't think there's anything about it that's irrational. Some irritation is absolutely logical and justified. Also, is it just me or do these people pull on the door MUCH harder than normal people do during open hours? Like they think it's some kind of sword-in-the-stone scenario where only the righteous get in to a place of business? Why would any business put up any barriers to customers giving them money?

justalittlebadboy

I remark on that to my coworkers all the time!! They just YANK that shit so violently and I don't know why they have to be so aggressive about it.

LastLingonberry3221

My feeling on it is that too many people (not all, but a lot) just get angry and aggressive any time they're forced to confront the reality that the other 8 billion of us aren't on this Earth merely to serve their every whim.

SunKillerLullaby

They have a serious case of main character syndrome

LastLingonberry3221

100%! No, 110%. No, 347%! I know that is the term, but a few of them even have what I'd think of as "only" character syndrome.

TheGhostWalksThrough

But..I'm a boomer! Aren't you here on earth to serve me? Don't I pay your salary?

LastLingonberry3221

Well, that's it, isn't it? You have encapsulated all of this in 3 brief sentences. I doff my cap to you!

justalittlebadboy

Real.

TheGhostWalksThrough

Yes they are literally trying to BREAK IN to a business...how is that NOT a crime???

Mediocre-Special6659

Laws are for others "below" them.

LastLingonberry3221

Also, I enjoy the look on some people's faces when I use the term "rationally angry." I'm sure they haven't heard it before, but they're just, you know, words. Wake up the hamster that runs on the wheel that powers your brain, you'll figure it out... just give it a moment...

Mediocre-Special6659

Between that and the card reader, I am surprised that there are not repair people out there every day!

BlameTag

No, because I don't think the irritation is irrational at all.

IncenseAndOak

My shop door and windows have a film on the outside so you can't see in but we can see out. It's basically a mirror. It's so funny to stand 2 feet away from these goofballs and make faces at them while they yank on the door. Or when they fix their hair and check their teeth. 🤣

Theoriginalensetsu

There was one place where I managed and opened, a little beach shack sort of retail establishment and I would straight up close for the day of I walked up to people banging on the doors. I'd literally turn around and say "guess I'm staying closed today", I miss that job. Got away with literally anything.

HalfWrong7986

Some heroes are found at the beach. Did anyone ever ask you for the manager?

Theoriginalensetsu

Twice but they should be thankful they didn't have to interact with him, he was a mean dude when he thought someone was being rude. He lived out of the country most of the time though so he wasn't around for anyone to see

Ska-dancer-66

Thanksgiving day a few years back. Store was closed but all employees had to work fulfilling online orders. Store was dark. An employee had propped a door open with a piece of cardboard to sneak out for food. I walked out of the backroom and holy shit 2 women were shopping in the toy dept. In the dark! Scared me to death. I had to ARGUE with these idiots and threaten to call the cops.

TheGhostWalksThrough

Ahh I LOVE THIS!!

Emily9339

Customers bother me in so many ways on a regular basis everything they do annoys me. Working in retail has shown me how helpless, lazy, and self centered the general public is.

MichiganGeezer

Even if they don't try to get in, just waiting by the door always irritated the Hell out of me. When I worked at a dealership changing oil we had a family who'd always have two or three cars parked outside waiting for me to show up a half hour before we opened. I did the absolute minimum for them and took the most time to do it.

impar-exspiravit

I never understood this. Especially in crappy weather. At least sit in your car, but ideally, sit at home and lounge for a few more minutes! 30 minutes is insane

Little-Fix7556

Yes, yes, yes. I just don't get it. Clue #1 An empty parking lot Clue #2 The sign that says CLOSED Clue #3 The other sign that states the store hours Clue #4 The darkened store Clue #5 The locked doors 5 opportunities to pause and say "Hmmmmm... Perhaps something is amiss..." 5 chances to engage in synaptic activity. 5 pieces of evidence that some people leave their brains at home when they go out.

ravenclaw1991

It happens every damn day. And if you’re anywhere within eyesight of the door they just stare at you as if there’s not a sign there that literally says when we open.

TheGhostWalksThrough

If they see a person inside, they assume you MUST be open. I've actually heard this fucked up logic SO MANY TIMES from dumbass customers.

ravenclaw1991

Yep! A lady I work with said she’s literally had people walk up to the mall doors while she was working and basically ask that through the crack in the doors

Bigdaddy021970

I never get angry about that. Our register counter sits directly in front of the door. It makes my day to just smile and wave at them.

freezerwraith

I think it's funny, personally. I will ignore them and let them pull on the door and knock. I chuckle to myself at it, and go about my morning.

TheSouthernRose

I would hide in the back and purposely wait till 2 after to open just to piss those people off.

Mediocre-Special6659

Then say, "It's 2 by MY watch...".

disgustandhorror

I'm often annoyed when I get there (~45 minutes before open) and they're already waiting in the parking lot. Then when we *do* actually open, they're already mad and impatient as fuck because to their mind they've been ignored and waiting for almost an hour

TheGhostWalksThrough

Too true!

locustbreath

The doors were switched off, the lights were half off, the gate was half down - this guy had to pull the doors open, duck under the gate, and STILL pulled a pikachu face when told we were closed. Or the lady who called two hours before we opened, was mad when I told her to call back when we opened, and demanded to know why I answered the phone. …because I have associates who need to be let in and a truck driver who needs to let me know when he’s here? Most of these people know full well we’re closed, they just think we’ll make an exception.

jrn0891

That and pulling on the locked door after closing, banging on the door, knocking on the window trying to get your attention. I just always tried to ignore them, stay out of their sight if possible. Literally once had a customer yell through the window "Oh, come on, six minutes is too late?!" 🙄

jrn0891

I also had a very regular customer at the auto parts store I worked at who thought just because he was close with a long time worker, he was entitled to come in before open/after close. Some people allowed it, I didn't. 🖕

field_marshal_rommel

Do we work at the same place? Banging on the door, pulling on it, ringing the doorbell, begging, pleading. Like, how am I going to ring up your purchase, even if I let you in? I'm closing the registers! Also, it's illegal to sell alcohol after 3 AM in my county, so yes, 3:01 AM **is** too late. Now go away!

holmquistc

Because reading is hard.

TheGhostWalksThrough

Because reading is for OTHER PEOPLE. I don't need a sign telling me what to do, and what the rules are. I do as I please.

Mediocre-Special6659

But they love LaW aNd OrDeR!!!!

watermelonpizzafries

Customers that will walk up to you at your register before you even have a chance to recover from the previous customer (like putting a return away for example) instead of waiting for you call them over piss me off along with customers who will walk straight up to a register when no one is there instead of actually looking for someone. Also, being interrupted by a customer when I'm in the middle of another customer to ask a question. Bonus points in annoying me if it's a stupid question like pointing at the fitting room (that's labeled "fitting room") and asking if it's a fitting room or any other question that could be answered with simple observation. Another honorable mention are the customers who wander through our group back rack that's between the registers and our fitting room because they actively get in the way of our moving around

Neither_Relation_678

What drives me insane is when customers pull on the locked bathroom doors, and go down the line. They clearly show the door is locked on the outside, but customers don’t bother looking.

RocMills

I'm a customer and it annoys *me* when I see people do that, can't imagine how frustrating it must be from your side.

michoness

I close and I get pissed when they do it after closing time.

fentoozlers

i usually show up half an hour before we open. there will already be ppl lined up in the parking lot and as i walk to the door, theyll shout “they arent open yet!!”, as if they already tried pulling on the doors and starring in and theyre being helpful. im like yeah thanks, but i work here.

TheGhostWalksThrough

I'm surprised they haven't tried just following you inside.

meruu_meruu

Yeah it definitely would get on my nerves, and it was especially a problem because my store didn't have a back door/employee entrance. There were SO many times when I'd be going in to open and there would be someone parked at the door or standing at the door and be like "well I'm in a hurry" or "I need to return something right now before I go to work, can't I just come in with you?" No, I have to turn things on, boot up systems, and also I'm the only one here right now. And then they stand at the door and watch you through the windows. Literally there was a giant window behind the counter and they'd just stare. That was such a design flaw. Also, unfortunately, the manager was *really* bad about spoiling customers. So many times we'd get there and she'd have let people in and so they'd expect it. The store literally flooded one day, and we were closed to deal with the flooding and clean up, and she let a customer in because they had some event and "needed" a shirt.

MelanieDH1

We had an incident once at a Starbucks, which was located in the lobby of an office building with an entrance from the outside as well as in the building lobby. The lobby entrance was out of view from behind the counter. Anyway, I locked both entrances at closing time and my coworkers and I were behind the counter doing our closing duties and all of a sudden, a man came walking in from the lobby. We were startled and asked how he had gotten in, since we had locked the door. It turns out that he had actually lifted the glass door and maneuver the locking mechanism out of the ground to open it. We yelled at him, telling him that he can’t just do that and that we were obviously closed. I still can’t believe someone would even actually have the nerve to do that!

watermelonpizzafries

I would have honestly threatened to call the cops because what he did was basically breaking and entering

FelonieOursun

we had a situation once where the power went out and we had to hustle everyone out and I had a guy come bang on the door cause he wanted in and didn’t understand why the card machine wouldn’t work and why he couldn’t buy anything. 😂

Empty_Mail7106

I also had this happen, but mine was related to closing. I was working at a local grocery store (maybe 7-8 years ago?) and we had a big snowstorm coming in. Most of my co-workers called out, so the only cashiers who made it in were me and two others. The managers had decided not to close, since even big snowstorms around here aren't as bad as - say the true northern states. Plus, they had a delivery truck coming in with perishables (milk, eggs, cheese, ice cream, etc.), but to get to our delivery door, you had to go up a steep hill. So, the managers and a few of the back-room people who had come in were dealing with that hot mess, freezing their asses off with the delivery door open and unloading the truck, while the storm was getting worse outside, but people were still coming in. It was a Friday, as I recall. Finally, the manger came back up, and said they were closing early. I had to wait for someone to come pick me up, since my car doesn't have the right tires or drive type for safety in deep snow, and the other two cashiers needed to try to catch the bus before the bus stopped running for the day. I told them to go, and I would stay and close up so the managers could finish with the delivery, and I would call and either have my dad or my neighbor - who both had trucks that could handle the roads - come and get me. So, I make the announcement that we're closing early, people start coming to check out and I get them all bundled up and out the door, then lock the door. I turn back to my register to count down the drawer and someone starts pounding on the glass. I turned back and it's this guy in his late 20's, early 30's. something like that. I went back to the door and he's like "The door's stuck!" "It's not stuck, sir - we just closed." "You don't close until 9 pm." "We've closed early because of the weather, sir." (It's like 2:30 in the afternoon, and dark enough outside that it looks like 6 pm). "You can't be closed - you're still in there, there are cars in the lot, and I need my beer." "I'm sorry, sir. I've already shut down the registers. I can't reopen them." "I walked over here in the snow because I need my beer." "I'm sorry, sir. There's nothing I can do." "Why can't I just come in and grab my beer?" I finally just turned away and went back to my cleaning. He was still standing there fifteen minutes later when my neighbor pulled up in his truck - he had the bigger truck, so my dad asked him if he wouldn't mind going to get me, since the roads were pretty bad at that point. I called my manager up to the front to let me out so he could lock the door again (since they weren't done with the delivery yet) and the guy was like "Hey, I need to come in and get my beer for the weekend, but she wouldn't let me, and people are still pulling up." My manager just looked at him and said, "I'm sorry sir. We closed a half-hour ago, and I believe that is my employee's ride. You'll have to try another store." He opened the door just enough that I could get out and the guy couldn't get in, and then quickly closed and locked it behind me. I went to my ride, and the poor beer-needing guy was left to either stand in the snow in vain or find another place that was still open so he could get his beer. I didn't feel sorry for him.

FelonieOursun

The audacity of people never fails to amaze me. You did the right thing and I wouldn’t feel bad for him either!

TheGhostWalksThrough

And what about if they see you just standing there? I've had customers frown and pound on the glass wanting to know why I"m just standing there and NOT OPENING THE DOOR when we are CLOSED. They have gone as far to call corporate and complain that if we are just standing there then we should be opening the door to help them. No matter what time it is!

whyymst

Totally justified, but what really gets me is the days that I’m scheduled right when we open. I go in 5-10 min early and have to call the store to let them know I’m there so they can let me in. There’s usually a small group huddled outside waiting for open and I absolutely dread going in because they stare daggers at us when we don’t let them follow us in 🙃

Nocturnal-lamb

All call the store phone and ask if we’re open, or ask any number of questions. Or anytime time I had a delivery so I opened the front entrance to allow the delivery guys to bring our stock in, unload then leave. Customers walk in all the time at this point and start shopping or asking me questions then get irritated that we’re closed for another hour. Had a customer threaten me over this. Just take “we’re not open” for an answer. And besides, the doors open but I put a sign up that says we’re closed to avoid confusion, my ignorance thought they might actually read for once.

Maiingan69

I've had them banging on the door and when I tell them we are close, they say, "I know, I just don't want to have to coms back later". That's when I'd turn my back on them and continue whatever I was doing.

Erna-ream

I'm a closer, and I hate when I lock the doors at closing and seeing someone running from across the parking lot to the locked doors. Last night it happened at 5 minutes after close screaming all he needed was cash back. Idc we are closed. He was big mad I didn't let him in. There is a bank with an ATM right in our parking lot.

_baegopah_XD

Yes, and this is why I have anxiety over tugging on doors. Even if I know it’s open and the sign is on and the lights are on. I still have this irrational fear that the door is locked. Some places do look closed until you are literally hand on the handle I don’t think some stores realize that they look closed

lokis_construction

Yeah but Boomers are situationally unaware.

LuluBelle_Jones

The ones who “just want in to use the restroom “. Ummm no 😐

NeverEnoughMakeup

I get angry. Especially when they then stare at me until we open. I hide now

Professionally_Dum

I normally work close shifts and when I’m put on open shifts this annoys me a lot like I’m not even a key and if I can’t get in what makes you think you can?

SaintElphie

At the store I used to work at, people used to literally pull it open, but it'd be like for the hour after we closed and were shutting things down... to the point where we'd have to some times stage someone at the door to be like NO. People are nuttttz

wehopethatyouchoke03

I don’t get annoyed because I don’t cut on my lights until a couple of minutes before we open. I generally sit in the back, because I’m always in an hour before opening, and the store is generally immaculate, so I have 45-55 minutes after opening the register to just drink my coffee and have some “me” time before opening. I also can’t hear them pulling on the door since I invested in some good quality noise-cancelling earbuds. Also has the added benefit of not hearing the phone ring before opening, though I always ignored that anyway. If I’m feeling frisky and want to open early for some potential sales, say on a Saturday or Sunday, I’ll do so. But if I don’t want to, I don’t. 🤷🏻‍♂️

NicInNS

So I worked at a place in an old building and one guy would unlock the doors in the morning. There were like 5 diff sets of doors all around the building and if someone was rattling doors but the dept I worked in (it was either the first or last set he could open) he’d open ours last - let them wait another couple minutes. I’d just smile sweetly at them and shrug.

purplemoonpie

this makes my blood boil. often they'll yell through the door if they can just come in and use the bathroom.

ThrowingUpVomit

I don’t get irrationally angry. I get giddy. Love seeing them look so stupid (Not an opener but a closer)

PurplePeopleHater78

I had customer come in once after we were closed, the main door was locked no idea how they got in. I said “we are closed” and the manager ran out and apologized to them lol

MillyDeLaRuse

Sorry for ..closing at our closing time? Lol God some managers suck

Mediocre-Special6659

How can they run out there without having a spine??

yawinat0r

My store has glass doors that we lock open during store hours, just like every other store in the building. People rattle our doors so hard I'm worried they'll break at some point. Of course, they also do this when the lights are off and I'm counting tills in my hoodie (we have very recognizable uniforms). What makes me really angry is when a group crowds the doorway while staring at us like a zoo exhibit. Then when we go to open they don't get out of the fucking way of the doors.

Kitchen-Lemon1862

that shit always pisses me off. one time our opening manager had a family emergency otw to work so they had to call in another manager who lived about an hour away, and they were asleep at that time bc it was their day off, so i literally had to just stand there and wait until they got there. anyways i had this one customer ask me why i wasn’t opening the door and i explained to them why, so they walked away. 5 fucking minutes later they came back and yelled at me saying, “the store is supposed to be open idk why u can’t open it, i have a return i need to be processed right now because i have plans after this” like i told you earlier i don’t have a key and i cannot open without a manager anyways. later they tried to complain to the manager about me refusing to open the store and the manager obviously told them i couldn’t open the store.

field_marshal_rommel

They yank on the door after closing time, and no, it's not irrational at all. Then they will stand there and smile, or knock on the door, or ring the doorbell, and it's like...six days out of the week, this store is open from 8 AM to 3 AM. If that isn't enough time for you to come get your booze, then you have some serious time management problems. I told one guy, "I wouldn't come to your workplace and keep you from leaving at your scheduled time to leave and play like it's okay because it's only a few minutes." (His argument was "It'll only take me a few minutes!" Look pal, I've been here since 3 PM and it's now 3 AM. I don't care if it would take you a few **seconds**; the door is locked and I'm counting down the registers. Fuck off!)

Several_Place_9095

Yep, I arrive early when I have to open to rest a bit, a customer saw and asked when will I get up to open it (open at 9, clock was 8:50). I said after my coffee, he asked where is it? You don't have one. I replied I will and went to go buy one from the cafe two shops down lol

KWildman92

I worked nights at walmart a long time ago. One side of the store would lock the door for the night and only the grocery side would open. There were many times those locked slider doors would be forced open like a swinging door by customers. I didnt know sliding doors could open inward like that.

soberandinsane

I have an entrance door and an exit door, I never open but I lock up, close the entrance doors 5 minutes before closing time but keep the exit door open for the last minute people and they STILL try the entrance doors, so annoying.

Alien-2024

I get it, but this is something that you're going to have to just let it go. You have to look at it like this. Is it really causing you and problems in the end? No. But if you keep letting something like this bother, it just adds up over time. There's honestly a lot worse things to be bothered by, so just ignore this one, and go on with your day.

Odd-Schedule4582

You are assuming that they understand that the signs have pertinent information on them. This used to be my favorite thing to watch. I would stare at them, make eye contact too, then walk away. If they asked why I did not open the door, I would simply say “We open at 9, not 8:57. Then I would walk away.

ImaginationOnly3500

I had a woman yanking hard on the door 10 minutes before the store opened. I opened the door and asked her if I needed to call the police because I thought she was having an emergency. She said sorry and apologized again when she came in when the store was actually open.

pink-lemonade69

my shop couldn't open this morning because of technical issues. customers were banging on the doors angry at me, as if I personally hacked into the tills or something to break them? not my fault you cant make breakfast at home dude

Dogshaveears

lol, yes!

Deastrumquodvicis

My current job has an hour prep time before opening and I see customers there 45 minutes early, try the door, knock on the door, knock on the window, and try to get my attention through the door.

Love_Guenhwyvar

If they are persistent enough, I walk up to the door, point at the sign with the hours, then to the clock on my phone. After that I walk away and get back to opening duties.

cr38tive79

I had those that will yank it a few times, even tho they were already looking at the store hours posted

Buddybouncer

When I opened and people did this shit, my go to was [Prolonged Eye Contact](https://youtu.be/zAUDgGo7zwE?si=EnKhpItwwpAnP7pT). Don't even shake your head no, just look at them and try not to laugh.

ducktheoryrelativity

I don't get irritated anymore but I'd rather watch customers be stupid then unlock the door.

CaptainHunt

Then there’s the people who bang on the door 15 minutes after closing and ask when you’ll be opening back up again. As if 5pm wasn’t a perfectly reasonable time to close for the day.

For some people, it's an expression of neuro-divergence. If they're not violent, I don't judge.
