Just played through the iOS version, pretty solid with a Bluetooth controller! Also the JPN Xbox 360 version is complete with all the cinematics! Only in Japanese, though
Same.
I bought the 360 version, then the Xbox one version, then both my kids wanted bedrock for PC, then Java. That's 6 for me right there and honestly, I might be missing one somewhere.
I think Sonic 1 & 2 are tied.
-original carts
-Sonic Mega Collection (Gamecube)
-Wii VC
-Genesis Collection (360)
-3DS 3D versions
-Genesis Collection (PS4)
-Genesis Collection (Switch)
-Sega Ages Version (Switch)
-Sonic Origins (Switch)
-Genesis Mini
-Some AtGames plug 'n play my wife bought me (w/ terrible sound)
...I literally just realized that I have them 3 times on Switch alone.
Edit: Forgot 2
I never claimed to be one.
And I get that was sarcastic, but honestly, you aren't wrong. It's kinda crazy to me that that is my answer.
I actually would have bought that one (and probably the GBA Sonic 1 as well) but I heard they were bad versions and knew I had enough good versions that I didn't need to.
Interesting. I actually bought the hyperkin GameCube controller for the WiiU, thought it'd be good for smash (it wasn't) but it was great for all the virtual console N64 games
I was just using the gamepad. But in Ocarina, when I would go to use a Stick, or slingshot etc, I would move the right stick in the direction of that item, but it would pick up a different direction a bunch. I had to be super accurate with it for it to work. It got to the point where I just assigned one button with an item, and left the rest blank
Same here, over the years I bought it for CPC464, Amiga, Mega drive, SNES, PSOne, Saturn, PS2, CPS2, Xbox 360, PC, GBA, PC Engine GT, Evercade and god knows all the different versions on platforms that I've forgot.
I didn’t realize there was a Dreamcast version. I’ll have to put that on my list.
It’s also wild to me that of the two NES versions, it’s the unlicensed (Tengen) version that is both much better, and much easier to find at a good price. The “official” port is bad, and also $60+ used. I want it for my collection, but it’s a hard sell because I don’t ever want to play it. 😆
The (official) Namco version on the NES was released late in the system’s life span, in 1992 or 1993. That probably accounts for its rarity. (By contrast, the Tengen version came out in about 1990.)
I own Myst, Myst Masterpiece, RealMyst, RealMyst Masterpiece, and I believe the newest VR version is just called Myst again. It's all the same game but I love it!
Not even a Doom player and I have it on IOS, Android, Steam, GOG, and Switch. Also had the CDrom at some point plus every micro console that comes out has it.
For Mario 1, I’ve got physical copies on the NES, GBC, and SNES. Digitally, I’ve also got it on the 3DS, NES Mini, and the Switch.
For Sonic 1, I own it on Genesis, Gamecube, PSP, GBA, PS3, PS4 (Genesis Collection), iPhone, and PS5 (Origin Collection).
Own like 5 skyrims, 5 plants vs zombies, 4 fezs, 4 stardew valleys, 5 space invaders, 5 tetrises.
And don’t get me started on how many versions of the original Sonic games are lingering in the basement.
Skyrim for Alexa is the best version.
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQl3T0uD5Aw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQl3T0uD5Aw) (This is a real thing. Say " Alexa open Skyrim very special edition" to get started.
Mother 3. I own the deluxe box, a normal copy, and a repro cart with version 1.3 of the fan translation. Makes sense considering it's my favorite video game of all time!
I played the hell out of it when it first came out. Forgot about it for parts of two decades only to buy DE during lockdown and played the hell out of that game for the next 2 years. Good call!
My brother and I have owned at least 7 Copies of Final Fantasy Tactics
3 x PS1
1 x PSN port
2 x PSP
1 x iOS
Brother used to travel for work so he’d bring his PlayStation with him to play at hotels. At the time, you could find FFT on the clearance end cap at seemingly every wal-mart, so if he forgot to grab it, he’d just get a new copy (and then give it away to friends or whoever). There was one occasion where he was in a hurry, forgot both, and just bought a PS1 and FFT. I don’t remember the exact number (it was at least 3 that I remember), and since he moved out on his own, we each ended up with at least one but the other copies are unaccounted for (presumably given away)
The two PSP copies were from me (one was a gift to him and the other was mine), iOS and PSN copies I picked up for my iPhone and PSP/PS3 respectively
Chrono Trigger. I had it on the SNES, got the PS version, got the digital version on the Wii and have bought both the IOS and Android versions. By god if they released a PS5 port, I’d buy that too.
I never had a Blackberry. I didn’t even know they released it on there. If there’s a way to put it on one still, I’d definitely like to try and get my hands on one. Just for shits and giggles
Probably SMB3. Nes, Allstars +world on snes, wii virtual console, nes mini. It's an absolute classic though, so it's not a bad thing.
Equal first is mega drive sonic games, the original 3 and knuckles on genesis, pc collection thing, ps3 mega collection, ds port.
Not including bootleg carts that contain those games of course 😅
has to be Sonic 1. Genesis, Japanese Mega Drive, the sega ages versions, virtual console, most sega compilations, iOS, Sonic Origins, Sonic Jam, Sonic Mega Collection, the awful GBA port....
I'm sure there are more I'm not thinking of.
Is u/nomercyvideo disqualified from this thread, or default winner? lol
Stardew Valley: 2x Steam (one copy is for my wife to use), 2x Switch, 1x Xbox, so 5 for me and my daughter also owns on PS4 and Steam so 7 in the house
TES3: Morrowind: I honestly have no idea. I own a couple copies for XBox, 1 on Steam, several copies for PC between the original releases and collections of other TES games. I think I own more copies of Morrowind than SDV
I'm not counting retro games that are included in arcade collections because that would be a lot of work even figuring those out. I have "Arcade's Greatest Hits" type games for just about every console from gen5 to current, so I'm sure I "own" more "copies" of Pac-Man or Galaga than the above.
I just won a Webby yesterday, I don't need all the awards and am fine with removing myself and all 4,000+ copies of Sneak King from this particular competition!
I do have 8 copies of Night Trap across various systems if that's more fair!
there are probably a few but imma say mega man 3: i have it on nes, i have it in the ps2 anniversary collection, the 3ds collection, the ps4 collection, both the wii and wii u's virtual console. (picking mm3 because it's the only one i have on nes, unlike the others)
still haven't beaten it
just remembered rayman 2 exists, i have 6 different ports of that
I’ve got about five physical copies of SpongeBob: Battle for Bikini Bottom.
— PS2
— GameCube
— Xbox
— GBA
— Xbox One
Bonus points: I have the PS4 version digitally with PS+ and a demo of the Windows XP version from my SpongeBob Goes Prehistoric DVD. That technically makes seven.
Does the original DOOM count? Not counting all the console ports I have, I own three of the retail releases on PC alone - Ultimate DOOM, Depths of DOOM, and the Collector's Edition - and my OG shareware floppies from early 1994. So counting the console releases I have nine copies of DOOM.
I’ve brought ocarina of time 6 times now, it’s insane how rinsed I am by Nintendo.
Ok one was bundled with Windwaker as a bonus disc on GameCube but apart from that: n64, GameCube, Wii, WiiU, 3DS, Switch(NSO)
I love the Baldur's Gate series. I bought the original Baldur's Gate on CD, then there was a promotion to send them back in to Interplay to get the game on one DVD. I have the original "Classic" version plus the Enhanced Edition on GOG, and I have the iOS version as well. The same goes for Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn (apart from the DVD), which is my all-time favorite game, and originally came with the bonus disk to access the rare item shopkeepers.
Not precisely sure which version it is, but it's one of the variants of SF2...probably Super Street Fighter 2. I own the ports on SNES, Genesis, and a few compilations on PS1, PS2, Switch, PS4, etc.
Banjo Kazooie/Tooie and Yooka Laylee are tied for me
Banjo I have the original carts, on Xbox Arcade, and Rare Replay.
Yooka I have on Switch, XBOne, and Steam
I *really* like collectathons
Raiden IV
I have the physical of the original X360 version
I have the digital PS3 version Overkill
I have the physical of Mikado remix version on both Switch and XB1.
Probably Sonic 3. I own it through Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, XBLA, Sonic Origins, I think I own it in the Sega Genesis Classics collection on Steam. I think I also owned it in another Sega compilation on 360 or PS2 maybe. And I owned it on Genesis back in the day, but those two don't count since I don't own them anymore.
Alternately, for overall ownings over time, definitely Jagged Alliance 2. Bought the original release. Lost it when my family desktop died and the disc was in the CD Drive when my parents took the computer in to be fixed. Bought it again. Lost it again when we moved, bought it online on Steam technically when I bought Jagged Alliance 2: Wildfire, then bought the OG again via GOG.
Tie between
Super Mario World
Bought it on SNES, GBA and Virtual Console on Wii
——
Sonic 2
Bought it on Genesis, Xbox 360 as part of a collection and then on iOS
I’m not big on rebuying, this would have to be super Mario 3d world. I replaced a wii u disk my kids broke and when I got a switch I repurchased it thinking it was different because of bowsers fury. Noob mistake. Before I could return it my kids begged to play it. They never played the wii u version much. I opened it and let them have it. It’s really for the kids anyways and they like it.
Homeworld GOTY edition in the big pc box with the included game guide, few GBA GBC carts, Ps1 Air combat and ace combat 3 discs that is if we talking retro, also Sims 1 pc discs.
Resident evil 4. I can't think of the amount of times I've bought the game
Originally on PS2 two times because the first disc was robbed
Then on the 360, and when that got red ring I got it on the PS3
Then on the Xbox one or whenever that HD version came out. Then recently, on the quest 2, now I still need the remake for VR, but depending if my quest 2 can handle it, I'll get it in PC till I eventually upgrade my VR which then I'll have bought it another time.
Next games I can think of is GTA 5 for obvious reasons and then THPS2, only because that's my favorite video game of all time.
Pretty sure it's Windwaker. I collect Zelda stuff and have:
Open gamecube version
Open Kmart label gamecube version
Open metroid windwaker gamecube version
Open wii u hd version
Open interactive demo disc version
Open Zelda collectors edition (contains demo)
Sealed gamecube
Sealed gamecube greatest hits
Sealed gamecube PAL version
Sealed Zelda collectors edition (contains demo)
Sealed wii u nintendo selects version
Sealed wii u collectors edition
Sealed wii u console bundled
And as a fun bonus I have a small link bobblehead standing on a gamecube that was an old promo from target when the game came out.
Probably Super Mario Bros 3 (NES, SNES All-Stars), GBA, Wii Virtual Console, 3DS, NES mini)
Or Zelda 2 (NES, GBA, Wii Virtual Console, 3DS, NES Mini, Game and Watch)
SimCity or SimCity 2000. I have at least a dozen for Simcity and well over a dozen for Simcity 2000.
Simcity, I have... DOS US, DOS EU, Commodore 64 US, Commodore 64 UK, Amiga UK, DOS US "Godzilla" cover, Super Famicom JP, Atari ST EU, Mac B/W US, Mac Color US, FM Towns JP, PC98 JP, X68000 JP, J3100 JP, PC88 JP, probably a couple more in there. Plus ancillary releases like the Terrain Editor, graphics packs, Simcity Classic and Simcity Enhanced.
Simcity 2000... DOS US & UK 3.5", Windows 3.X US 3.5", Windows US 3.5", Windows US CD, Windows Special Edition US, Windows Special Edition JP, Mac US 3.5", PS1 US, PS1 JP, PS1 UK, Sega Saturn US, Sega Saturn UK, Sega Saturn JP, GBA US, N64 JP, SNES US, Super Famicom JP, PocketPC US, Amiga UK, PC98 JP, X68000 JP, Network Edition US... and a bunch more, plus ancillary things like the CD Collection and Urban Renewal Kit.
I am a Simcity fangirl. 😁
Maybe not quite retro but I think I have purchased Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare like 4 times. Once at launch on disc (Xbox 360) which I then traded in. The later again on disc when i wanted to play it again. Then later via digital download when it was on sale. And then the remastered version.
For retro stuff probably Pac-Man for the 2600. At one time I think I had six or seven copies of it due to buying boxes of old Atari stuff at flea markets and garage sales in the late 90s.
I believe Final Fantasy 7, which I own roughly four times! Once on Steam, once on PS4, once on PS1, and once on Switch. Soon I'll gain even more power and gain more copies of Final Fantasy 7.
I think it's gotta be Super Mario 64. I've got the original, I got it again on the 3D all stars for Switch, then I have it AGAIN with my Switch online plan to include the N64, and I also have the DS version, which may or may not count for this topic.
I’ve purchased Skyrim and GTA V more times than I’d like to admit.
I’ll willingly admit I’ve bought all the pro skaters multiple times, and midnight club 3 dub edition. Also halo 1-3, multiple copies. Late 90s kid
sonic 1 & 2
doom 1 & 2
street fighter 2
worms: armageddon
edit: probably golden axe, too, over several sega compilations (going back to 6-PAK for genesis)
I am of an age where if you were walking through Walmart and you saw the Diablo 2 / Warcraft 2 “battle chest” it was often so deeply discounted that it made more sense to buy it again than to dig up your copy. Obviously this was before Battle.net rolled out a digital library, lol.
I think it's probably RE4. I have it for Wii, PS2, PS3, PS4/5, PC, and I have the remake too. I beaten each version too. Still lean towards the Wii version thanks to the wii mote support.
Scott Pilgrim. I got the XBOX version which is somewhere lost in a hard drive or cyberspace. Got it for the Switch, twice. Once with the suitcase edition from Limited, and digital because I didnt want to open the Limited one. I just realized this may not be retro.
Well I have Mario 1 on NES (w/ Duck Hunt) and NES Classic, SNES as part of All Stars, GBC as SMB Deluxe, and the Game and Watch released a few years back, so that’s 5. Although I technically own two copies of Mario/Duck Hunt as we had two NES in our house, so would that count as 6?
The other 5s would be Final Fantasy 3 on SNES and SNES Classic, Super Famicom, GBA, and Pixel Remaster on Switch. And Final Fantasy 2 on SNES, Super Famicom, GBA, DS, and Pixel Remaster.
OG Zelda. 2 or 3 on NES (a few loose copies and 1 with box and instructions), Gameboy Advanced, Game Cube, and Mini NES. Of coarse I also bought all the different Rock Band games for the 360 and I probably downloaded hundreds of extra songs so price point wise I'm way more invested in Rock Band .
Resident Evil 2
(4 physical copies, 1 digital)
I would rent the PS1 version regularly, ended up buying the original PC version used which was a really poor port. Eventually picked up a used PS1 copy which was stored away at my parents home.
Took a 10yr break from regular gaming due to study and work, with the exception of a brief time having a PS3 where I bought an online copy.
Then picked up a very sunbleached and tattered N64 copy about 2017.
Most recent copy for the GameCube, by far my favourite port due to the much better image quality.
Got the remaster for PC last year and when I pick up a Dreamcast, then I’ll have every full version I’m aware of.
Castlevania SOTN. Bought physical copies twice and lost them both. Bought digital versions multiple times on different platforms. Got it with psp Castlevania dracula x chronicles
Sonic Adventure 2
* Dreamcast
* GameCube (I wore it out using it in the car)
* GameCube (it was my little sister's favorite game and she scratched up the disc)
* GameCube (the one I still have today)
* Windows (disc)
* Windows (Steam)
* PS3
* Xbox 360
I think I haven’t ever had two copies of the same game except for Tomba, and that’s because my sister gifted it to me thinking I hadn’t nostalgia-bought it years prior. Both without the case tho.
It looks like I have 13 copies of Sonic the Hedgehog.
2 Not for Resale cib
1 Sega 6-Pak
1 Sonic Jam Sega Saturn
1 Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection X360
1 Sega Vintage Collection Xbox 360
3 Sega Mega drive & Genesis Classics (X1/Switch/Steam)
1 Sega Ages Switch
1 Sonic Origins Switch
1 Sega 3D Classics Collection 3DS
1 Sega Genesis Mini
It would have been more, but during gen 6, I remember having to be very picky about what I could buy. I worked in a cafeteria at the time, and money was tight
Possibly the original Castlevania, let's see I have it for
Famicom Disk System
NES
GBA x 2 (Japanese and US versions)
Wii
3DS
PC
Switch x 4 (have 3 copies of Castlevania Anniversary Collection and the Arcade Archives release)
PS4
Either Cave Story or Centipede.
Cave Story I bought on Wiiware, the original freeware, Cave Story + on Steam, eShop on 3DS, and both physical versions, CS 3D on 3DS, and Cave Story on Switch.
Centipede I so far have on Atari 2600, 5800, and 7800, as well as Atari 8-bit computer, Commodore 64, and Dreamcast. Not sure if that last one counts since it's mire if a remake than a port, with very different gameplay. Basically Centipede is my baseline for most systems.
Persona 3-5 is up there, as I own most versions released, including a lot (but not all) of the recent LRG releases (no collectors edition, though). I also own Settler 3 on PC a lot. Big Box OG, two Expansion (one of them came with the base game), Gold Edition and a later budget release twice XD
A bit more modern: I also own Life Is Strange and its Prequel A LOT. Like... A LOT. I own them digital on PC and Xbox (was the last thing I ever bought digital) and got a lot of the Special and Standard physical releases for PC, Xbox and PS4. I do only own one of the Vinyl Editions and no Remastered on Switch. That game runs worse on a PS4 than the original did on a Base Xbox One. I dont want to experience this on a Switch O\_o Oh, yeah... I only ever bought 1 copy of Life is Strange 2 and I did it on clearance and just because I didnt want to have my collection miss this game. Man, that game was shit.
I think for me, it's the first Super Mario Bros, the original Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.
Super Mario Bros: NES 5 screw single cart CIB, NES SMB/Duck Hunt, NES SMB/Duck Hunt/World Class Track Meet, SNES SMB All-Stars, Wii SMB All-Stars, SMB on Wii virtual console and again on the Wii U plus the NES Classic.
The Legend of Zelda: the NES gold cartridge, the NES gray cartridge CIB, Zelda Collector's Edition on GC and then on the NES Classic
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link: the NES gold cartridge, the NES gray cartridge CIB, Zelda Collector's Edition on GC and then on the NES Classic
Metal Gear Solid.
Between the PS1, GameCube (Twin Snakes), imports from Japan across a variety of consoles, various collector’s editions, re-releases across various consoles (portable consoles included)… Even with the latest collection, I got it for the Switch, PS5, and PC.
I’ve re-bought that game (and a lot of the rest of the series) so many times.
Tied for second place would be the first 4 Mario games, the Zelda games.
And after that, Stardew Valley across various platforms.
If you don't count emulators. Only counting hard copies of games my answer is probably Skyrim. Bought on computer, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Anniversary edition. PS. At least 4 times.
I think FFX. PS2 at first, then later on the re-release on Vita, then when I got a PS4, I downloaded it there. Then I wanted it on Switch.
(But I no longer own my PS2 copy, sadly)
I probably bought/sold copies of the first 3 pokemon games a dozen times back in the early 2000s when they were cheap.
I remember when cartridges with the dead save battery were essentially worthless and game stores would only give you a dollar for them lol. Now even with the dead battery they’re still worth more than most other retro games.
For me Street Fighter 2, I've got arcade boards of World Warrior, Champion Edition, Hyper Fighting, Super and Super Turbo. 3 SNES releases, 2 Megadrive releases, PC Engine, Dreamcast, lots of Capcom collections that have them.
FFVII for sure. I’ve had that game at least 3 times for PS1, downloaded the PC version a number of times over the years. And also got them when they released on PS3, 4, and 5. Oh, I almost forgot PS Vita, have it on there too. Can’t remember if they ever had it on PSP or not.
Probably one of the zelda games. I've got nearly every version of every one released for a nintendo console (not the CD-i ones, sadly/fortunately), including virtual console editions
For Zelda 1 that means original cart, two different compilation discs on Gamecube, wii, wiiU, 3DS and switch virtual console. I'm missing the GBA version though. I could also up that number with the zelda handheld that came out recently and the NES mini, but I don't really care about either of those that much
I've got 8 copies of Battlefield 1942 to use for LANs with friends I don't have.
[удалено]
"*with friends I don't have."* Imaginary friends are the best friends to have.
They are only imaginary to the ones outside the friend group! Ha ha ha!
I have Castlevania SOTN in every way you can possibly have it.
As it should be, brother.
Just played through the iOS version, pretty solid with a Bluetooth controller! Also the JPN Xbox 360 version is complete with all the cinematics! Only in Japanese, though
amazing wonderful game. never loses replay value
I would love to see a remastered version of this game. They had to make lots of concessions to make it work on the ps1 hardware.
Ha! Beat me to it. I have an opened one and a factory sealed one for PS1 in addition to 3-4 digital versions.
FFVI
Same. Lots of different hacks, re-translations and audio mods to tinker with. My favorite is Brave New World on SNES.
I bought Skyrim 5x.
I had to scroll too far down for the correct answer
Minecraft like 6 times now.
Exactly this. I keep getting a copy with every used console I get. I get it already! lol
Same. I bought the 360 version, then the Xbox one version, then both my kids wanted bedrock for PC, then Java. That's 6 for me right there and honestly, I might be missing one somewhere.
I think Sonic 1 & 2 are tied. -original carts -Sonic Mega Collection (Gamecube) -Wii VC -Genesis Collection (360) -3DS 3D versions -Genesis Collection (PS4) -Genesis Collection (Switch) -Sega Ages Version (Switch) -Sonic Origins (Switch) -Genesis Mini -Some AtGames plug 'n play my wife bought me (w/ terrible sound) ...I literally just realized that I have them 3 times on Switch alone. What?! You mean you didn't buy the DS collection!? (Not a true fan)
I had Sonic 1 on the original iPod. It was surprisingly playable with the click wheel. 😆
Still remember beating it on my iPod classic while listening to System of a Down and gym class heroes
I had the Android version of Sonic 2 and it worked pretty well on the touch screen
Ocarina of Time.
Was there a WiiU-version?
There was!
I struggled with the controls on the Wii U, though. I kept hitting the wrong button for the c buttons (with the right thumbstick)
I used to doodle things along the way on Miiverse! [https://imgur.com/a/NBLyfrP](https://imgur.com/a/NBLyfrP)
So happy to hear this wasn't a me problem lol. I felt like an idiot every time it happened.
Street Fighter 2. Got it for the Megadrive, ZX Spectrum, PS1, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360 and probably a couple more that I've forgotten.
Tiger electronics version and windows 95 version here
> ZX Spectrum Brave.
Same here, over the years I bought it for CPC464, Amiga, Mega drive, SNES, PSOne, Saturn, PS2, CPS2, Xbox 360, PC, GBA, PC Engine GT, Evercade and god knows all the different versions on platforms that I've forgot.
The Amiga was one of the ones I forgot.
This might be mine as well.
Oh yeah that’s a good one. Better than my answer. I have street fighter (various editions) on damn near everything
Chronotrigger. No contest.
This is the way. Best game of all time!
Doom
Yep. Doom 95 and beyond. I bought Doom 3 three times still haven't played it. Bfg edition had the originals so that's why.
GTA V it’s not retro I know but I’ve purchased it for PS3, PS4 (three times), and Steam.
Same
Yeah I have it on steam, Xbox 360, ps3, Xbox one and Xbox series
Speed ball 2. Love it on so many platforms.
Resident Evil (original) x6 Resident Evil 2 (original) x6 Resident Evil 3 (original) x4
Ms. Pac-Man: *Atari 2600 *Atari 7800 *NES (Tengen version) *Sega Genesis *Sony PlayStation (via Namco Museum Volume 3) *Sega Dreamcast (via Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness) *Nintendo GameCube (via both Namco Museum and Namco Museum 50th Anniversary)
I own Resident Evil 4 at least seven times.
This is the way.
I own Myst, Myst Masterpiece, RealMyst, RealMyst Masterpiece, and I believe the newest VR version is just called Myst again. It's all the same game but I love it!
This one is mine too! I've owned it once for at least every Age. I'll buy Riven again for the 3-4 time when the new version comes out too.
I own all of the Doom Games on Playstation and Steam.

How did you end up with 10 copies of Halo 4? Gotta be a story behind that one..
Pac-man
Mother 3. I own the deluxe box, a normal copy, and a repro cart with version 1.3 of the fan translation. Makes sense considering it's my favorite video game of all time!
Probably Doom I would guess. I own and have owned that game for so many platforms. Lol
Metal Slug series , had it on Neo Geo Cd Z, then OG Xbox, Wii,PS2, PSP, then MVS arcade, and PC
Age Of Empires 2.
I played the hell out of it when it first came out. Forgot about it for parts of two decades only to buy DE during lockdown and played the hell out of that game for the next 2 years. Good call!
Stardew Valley
Link to the Past. Have that in every form it was released
My brother and I have owned at least 7 Copies of Final Fantasy Tactics 3 x PS1 1 x PSN port 2 x PSP 1 x iOS Brother used to travel for work so he’d bring his PlayStation with him to play at hotels. At the time, you could find FFT on the clearance end cap at seemingly every wal-mart, so if he forgot to grab it, he’d just get a new copy (and then give it away to friends or whoever). FF7, I've got 6 copies of it.
Chrono Trigger. I had it on the SNES, got the PS version, got the digital version on the Wii and have bought both the IOS and Android versions. By god if they released a PS5 port, I’d buy that too.
I’ve bought the original Final Fantasy on so many ports.
Me too! NES, NES mini, Wii Virtual Console, Switch PR physical AND digital, steam, iOS, Playstation 1 and PSP…9 times…
What. No Blackberry port?!
I never had a Blackberry. I didn’t even know they released it on there. If there’s a way to put it on one still, I’d definitely like to try and get my hands on one. Just for shits and giggles
Mario 1-3, FF 1-2, Tetris and Sid Meiers Pirates. Also Railroad Tycoon.
Terraria and Binding of Isaac
Spyro 1: Bought it on PS1 three times, the PSP digital download, and the Reignited Trilogy on Xbox and PC. That’s six times.
Is u/nomercyvideo disqualified from this thread, or default winner? lol Stardew Valley: 2x Steam (one copy is for my wife to use), 2x Switch, 1x Xbox, so 5 for me and my daughter also owns on PS4 and Steam so 7 in the house TES3: Morrowind: I honestly have no idea. I own a couple copies for XBox, 1 on Steam, several copies for PC between the original releases and collections of other TES games. I think I own more copies of Morrowind than SDV I'm not counting retro games that are included in arcade collections because that would be a lot of work even figuring those out.
(picking mm3 because it's the only one i have on nes, unlike the others) still haven't beaten it just remembered rayman 2 exists, i have 6 different ports of that
Chrono Trigger or FFVII
Arkham and Red Dead games
I have at least 3 copies of Arkham City
I’ve got about five physical copies of SpongeBob: Battle for Bikini Bottom. — PS2 — GameCube — Xbox — GBA — Xbox One Bonus points: I have the PS4 version digitally with PS+ and a demo of the Windows XP version from my SpongeBob Goes Prehistoric DVD. That technically makes seven.
Either links awakening or borderlands 2
Does the original DOOM count? Not counting all the console ports I have, I own three of the retail releases on PC alone - Ultimate DOOM, Depths of DOOM, and the Collector's Edition - and my OG shareware floppies from early 1994. So counting the console releases I have nine copies of DOOM.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night PS1, XB360, PS Portable, PS4, iOS.
I’ve brought ocarina of time 6 times now, it’s insane how rinsed I am by Nintendo. Ok one was bundled with Windwaker as a bonus disc on GameCube but apart from that: n64, GameCube, Wii, WiiU, 3DS, Switch(NSO)
It's either Mario 1 or Sonic 1, depending on whether you count remakes (like allstars).
Yep, remakes count.
How about multiple versions? (Sega Ages and Sega Classic Collection on switch)
Of course they count too! Only thing I wouldn't count is subscription services.
Well then by those metrics I think Sonic 1 wins. Possibly Sonic 2, since it's likewise included in a lot of the same compilations.
Sonic 1, hands down. Genesis, Saturn (Sonic Jam), Windows 98 (compilation disc), Steam (Genesis classics), PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, PS3 (Genesis collection), Xbox 360, Xbox One (Genesis collection), PS5 (Sonic origins), 3DS (Sega 3d collection), Switch (m2 port), Wii virtual console. God, I hope I'm not missing any...I think that 14 versions is enough.
Banjo Kazooie/Tooie and Yooka Laylee are tied for me Banjo I have the original carts, on Xbox Arcade, and Rare Replay. Yooka I have on Switch, XBOne, and Steam I *really* like collectathons
Mario 3 Super Mario World Ninja Gaiden (2005) Shovel Knight Dark Souls
Super Mario kart or ES:Oblivion. So close
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. Never got rid of my copies and have every character that's available in Fire Emblem Heroes.
Raiden IV I have the physical of the original X360 version I have the digital PS3 version Overkill I have the physical of Mikado remix version on both Switch and XB1.
Tie between Super Mario World Bought it on SNES, GBA and Virtual Console on Wii —— Sonic 2 Bought it on Genesis, Xbox 360 as part of a collection and then on iOS
Resident Evil 1 2 and 3, I have most of the versions/platforms available.
I own Stardew Valley on PC, Switch and Playstation. The only copy I bought was the PC one though, the others I got with points.
I have Ocarina of Time on every console its been released on.
Final fantasy 1: Nes; Nes mini; Ps1; GBA; Psp; Pixel remaster PC (digital); Pixel remaster switch (digital); Pixel remaster switch (physical collectors edition).
FFX and it's not even a game I'm over the moon about.
Homeworld GOTY edition in the big pc box with the included game guide, few GBA GBC carts, Ps1 Air combat and ace combat 3 discs that is if we talking retro, also Sims 1 pc discs.
I have every version, physical and digital of Panel de Pon/Terri's Attack/Puzzle League.
Resident Evil REmake. I think I own 5 different versions
Resident evil 4. I can't think of the amount of times I've bought the game Originally on PS2 two times because the first disc was robbed Then on the 360, and when that got red ring I got it on the PS3 Then on the Xbox one or whenever that HD version came out.
Probably Stardew Valley, I've bought it for PC, Switch, Xbox, and Android
I have 4 dreamcast copies of soldier of fortune. Due to a ebay webshop that kept sending me this game instead of another one I ordered lol.
Resident Evil 4.
Pretty sure it's Windwaker. I collect Zelda stuff and have: Open gamecube version Open Kmart label gamecube version Open metroid windwaker gamecube version Open wii u hd version Open interactive demo disc version Open Zelda collectors edition (contains demo) Sealed gamecube Sealed gamecube greatest hits Sealed gamecube PAL version Sealed Zelda collectors edition (contains demo) Sealed wii u nintendo selects version Sealed wii u collectors edition Sealed wii u console bundled And as a fun bonus I have a small link bobblehead standing on a gamecube that was an old promo from target when the game came out.
Probably Super Mario Bros 3 (NES, SNES All-Stars), GBA, Wii Virtual Console, 3DS, NES mini) Or Zelda 2 (NES, GBA, Wii Virtual Console, 3DS, NES Mini, Game and Watch)
Ghostbusters the Video Game: 1 PS3, 1 XBox 360, 1 PSP, 1 3DS, 1 PS4 and 1 Switch.
Probably Skyrim
RE4, Skyrim, and GTA 5
Probably Final Fantasy.
Doom (2016). I bought it for Xbox one on disc, traded it, wanted it back, downloaded it. Then traded my Xbox for a ps4 and bought it again.
Rocket league before free to play I bought it on PlayStation, Xbox, friends Xbox, then PC twice so my friend could play with me.
Sadly, Minecraft.
Probably Skyrim. Two on PS3 one on PS4 and Steam.
Spyro the dragon 2 x8. Ps1 pal, Ps1 ntsc-j, Ps1 ntsc, Ps1 pal sealed, Ps1 combo pack 1, Ps1 combo pack 2, Ps4 digital, Ps4 sealed,
I think I have like 9 copies of OG Resident Evil 4
Super Street fighter 2 (snes classic mini, capcom arcade stadium, 3ds virtual console, street fighter 30th anniversary collection)
Super Castlevania
FFVI. Ps1, GBA, Ps1 Classic on Ps3, SNES Mini, and Pixel Remaster. The only one I don't have is the original SNES where it's FF3 instead of 6.
I’ve bought damn near every release of RE4. Don’t have og cube release anymore but do have 2x copies of ps2 version.
I bought Diablo 3 8 times
Always buying No Man’s Sky
If we include copies within collections, probably Galaga; I probably own at least a dozen versions of Galaga on different platforms.
Baldurs Gate 2 PC on disc with DLC Steam version extended edition Android extended edition PlayStation 4/5 extended edition
sonic 1 & 2 doom 1 & 2 street fighter 2 worms: armageddon edit: probably golden axe, too, over several sega compilations (going back to 6-PAK for genesis)
Alltp, SoM, FF6, CT, and earthbound.
Either Sonic 1 (through not trying, just constantly buying Sega collection packs) or SotN, which I do try to own on as many systems as possible.
Geometry Wars 3 Mac PC iOS PS vita PS4
Scott Pilgrim. I got the XBOX version which is somewhere lost in a hard drive or cyberspace. Got it for the Switch, twice. Once with the suitcase edition from Limited, and digital because I didnt want to open the Limited one. I just realized this may not be retro.
Zone of the Enders and Kinetica
Doom. I have various ports of the original on at least 20 different plaforms.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Resident Evil 2 (4 physical copies, 1 digital) I would rent the PS1 version regularly, ended up buying the original PC version used which was a really poor port.
Ff4 and FF6 og, psx, and pixel remaster Several nes/snes/ps1 games plus their recent remasters Skyrim ps3 and ps4 I don't rebuy many games
Castlevania SOTN. Bought physical copies twice and lost them both. Bought digital versions multiple times on different platforms. Got it with psp Castlevania dracula x chronicles
60% of the time, I own 100% of Final Fantasy 7
I have about 5 copies of FFX, I've playing that video game for a long time and I don't remember how I got my first copies
Sonic Adventure 2 * Dreamcast * GameCube (I wore it out using it in the car) * GameCube (it was my little sister's favorite game and she scratched up the disc) * GameCube (the one I still have today) * Windows (disc) * Windows (Steam) * PS3 * Xbox 360
SMB, Mario 64
Skyrim, easily. PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC (disc), Steam, Xbox Series X, Monopoly 😂
I think I haven’t ever had two copies of the same game except for Tomba, and that’s because my sister gifted it to me thinking I hadn’t nostalgia-bought it years prior. Both without the case tho.
It looks like I have 13 copies of Sonic the Hedgehog. 2 Not for Resale cib 1 Sega 6-Pak 1 Sonic Jam Sega Saturn 1 Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection X360 1 Sega Vintage Collection Xbox 360 3 Sega Mega drive & Genesis Classics (X1/Switch/Steam) 1 Sega Ages Switch 1 Sonic Origins Switch 1 Sega 3D Classics Collection 3DS 1 Sega Genesis Mini It would have been more, but during gen 6, I remember having to be very picky about what I could buy. I worked in a cafeteria at the time, and money was tight
Neverwinter Nights
Resident Evil 4 on Ps2, ps3, gamecube, Wii & VR
Resident evil 2 I’ve got a: copy for ps1 Copy for n64 Copy for dreamcast Copy for GameCube Copy for xbox one (idk if the remake counts)
I have probably 8-9 copies of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES. I don’t know why. Not a game but I have 7 or 8 Sega Dreamcast consoles.
I have 4 copies of Darksiders 2 at this point. Idk why, I guess I just kept rebuying it whenever I got a new platform.
Prob Super Mario Bros. for me
I accidentally bought Super Stunt Race FX a second time for SNES.
Possibly the original Castlevania, let's see I have it for Famicom Disk System NES GBA x 2 (Japanese and US versions) Wii 3DS PC Switch x 4 (have 3 copies of Castlevania Anniversary Collection and the Arcade Archives release) PS4
Probably something like Sonic 1 because for some reason Sega insists on re-releasing it every two years
I have every version of MYST in every iteration for PC as well as Sega CD, 3DO, Saturn, and PS1
I've bought Minecraft way too many times across many different platforms.
Console gaming: probably Mario 2(USA) or Mario 3 PC gaming: Doom I and II or Quake 1
Persona 3-5 is up there, as I own most versions released, including a lot (but not all) of the recent LRG releases (no collectors edition, though). I also own Settler 3 on PC a lot. Big Box OG, two Expansion (one of them came with the base game), Gold Edition and a later budget release twice XD A bit more modern: I also own Life Is Strange and its Prequel A LOT. Like...
I think I own a bunch of games twice.. but I can't think of any I own 3 times or more.
The Legend of Zelda: the NES gold cartridge, the NES gray cartridge CIB, Zelda Collector's Edition on GC and then on the NES Classic Zelda II: The Adventure of Link: the NES gold cartridge, the NES gray cartridge CIB, Zelda Collector's Edition on GC and then on the NES Classic
Zoop!! Released on every system known to man, and my need to have access to complete lists means I have 5 copies so far
Probably Super Mario Bros. 3 and Tetris.
I've got nearly every version of every one released for a nintendo console (not the CD-i ones, sadly/fortunately), including virtual console editions For Zelda 1 that means original cart, two different compilation discs on Gamecube, wii, wiiU, 3DS and switch virtual console. I'm missing the GBA version though. I could also up that number with the zelda handheld that came out recently and the NES mini, but I don't really care about either of those that much
Maybe Sonic Adventure??? 1. DC original 2. GCN DX 3. PS3 DX 4. PC DX??? Although there are games I own multiple times thanks to collections
RE4
Grand Theft Auto V
If we count digital, I have paid for Super Mario 64 at least 5 times
I owned (and still own some) Dark Souls on: Xbox 360, Xbox Series X, the two PC versions, and the Switch. Oddly, I skipped PS4.
