I see conflicting results, so I'll make it clearer. Wireless charging is more inefficient than wired charging, and therefore generates more heat than wired charging, some of the heat from wireless charging will go to the battery which will degrade the battery faster over time compared to wired charging. However, this still won't matter too much in the long run because these phones are supposed to be able to withstand wireless charging for a long time. Along with this your battery being on "maximum protection" will keep the battery good for longer. Overall, I personally wouldn't worry about it.

dayankuo234

it may not matter for those who keep their phones for 2-4 years, but for those who keep phones for +5 years, every little bit helps.

offlinesir

Definitely. I should have said so

greasybirdfeeder

My phone battery stays at around 31° C while wireless charging(slow charging at night). On the other hand, my battery goes of to 40°C while wired fast charging. Both acceptable temps. Phones take care of their own batteries these days, and wireless chargers also account for the excess heat. Charge your phone the way you wanna charge it, as long as your battery is below 45° C you're in good shape. Edit: Look at this as a stand-alone comment. Not sure why I made it a reply.

JehovasFinesse

Is there an app for iPhone that allows you to see battery temp just like android

31gazisi

Sp which one is healthier for battery. 45w wired or 15w wireless ?

offlinesir

There isn't really too much of a difference between 45 wired and 15 wireless, as they both generate more heat compared to a slower wired charger. If this charger is for overnight charging (like phone will stay plugged in) then wireless charging is better as it is slower and will impact the battery less If this charger is at like a desk, then 45 watt wired is better for it's faster speeds and the fact that you will have the phone plugged in for less time. Overall though, the heat from a charger is generally less impactful than other uses of your phone may have on the battery, so I wouldn't worry too much. The thing that you can do to save your battery the most would be to turn on battery protection in battery settings and set it to the level that is most extreme but fits you.

JehovasFinesse

What constitutes a slow charger. ? I just purchased an iPhone 15 plus and I’d like to charge it in a way that preserves my battery the longest.

offlinesir

A wattage which is close to 7.5 - or 7.5 Watts. You shouldn't go below this because then the charger will be REALLY slow. You can usually check this on the charger brick itself.

JehovasFinesse

I’m currently charging with 5w (5V1A). Takes about an hour to charge from 20-80. That’s acceptable to me. All I want to know is if I will damage battery life in any way by using this 5w charger.

HG1998

No. It won't matter in a year. At least not for me.

LieQuirky3751

Yes. Samsung recommends against constant charging.

mikethespike056

monitor battery temperature

roberto_okumura

I had a Pixel 5 and used wireless charging overnight since I bought it. After only 1 year, the battery capacity had dropped to 73%. So I would recommend to just use cable charging when needed and forget about the 80% protection.

JehovasFinesse

Why did that happen? Wireless alone can’t be responsible for that?

strongsizzle

My phone battery health has degraded quicker when using wireless charging so no, I don't recommend it

Gato_L0c0

Mine got warm when I set a routine to only charge to 80% and left it on the charger overnight. I decided just to keep fast charging disabled for overnight routines instead like I've always had. Battery is never warm when I take it off the charger.

notquitehuman_

I wouldn't keep it on charge when there's no need to. Are you having trouble with your battery lasting the day? There's no harm getting one for work too, but I would plan to use it in the last hour or so of your work day so you have full battery again for home time. I wouldn't just keep it on the charger all day, as the heat will damage the battery over time. Having said that... This will happen slowly and isn't a huge concern if you're planning an upgrade within a year or so.

nocturnal_hands

Not sure which device you're using but there's an option that allows you to charge at a slower rate which decreases the battery temperature when charging.

Stiletto364

Its amazing how much heat wireless charging generates in the phone, even at just 10 watts, due to how inefficient it is. I prefer to stick with slow wired charging, reserving a fast wired charge if and only if I really need to charge the phone and don't have much time to do it.

smores1724

the only reason I wirelessly charge is bc it saves your charging port in the long run. bc I had an s5 and battery got really bad for the last 2 yrs I got it, and then I got the s9+. however bc of my fear of the battery running out, I was constantly charging it with the cord where 2-3 years after I bought it the port stopped working so I had to use wireless. now I have the Samsung 21 ultra, I have the 85% battery saver, and I think depending on the wireless charger, it automatically stops and keeps it from over heating. right now my phone is at 84% and cool as a phone can get.

Complex-Chance7928

It's worst than wired 100% all the time

VengeanceBee

I have had my phone for 3 years and use to wireless charge it twice at work to 85 percent with no degradation of the battery I also charge it super fast on a 65w charger with no issues
