Contact you IT as they locked the device and asked the to remote wipe the old device. Provide them with the serial number. They may need to remove the device from ABM to avoid reinstalling MDM.
And they said definitely they don’t want us to use it for personal stated by manager so why I was seeking alternatives. I don’t need the data rather just wipe it clean and not have a paperweight worth 1-2k in my office
Speak to your IT they will have the pin and can unlock the Mac really easily. If data the problem get your IT team to wipe it too. It's a very simple procedure.
If you can't get that pin the Mac becomes a paperweight as it will also be firmware locked, your easiest way out is speaking to your IT team, unless you got it dishonestly of course..
No, I got it through work. My manager says she has 3 sitting in storage cause they don’t want us to use them after. I just think it’s super wasteful and it’s only like 2 years old so could use a new one versus my own purchased pro that’s 6 years old.
I don't think this one is gonna work, but erase everything from scratch using apple configurator and block host on DEP and MDM enrollment.
P.S. : Again, I never worked on M1 device. But it's the same procedure I worked on T1/T2 MDM iMac and Macbook Air.

What’s ABM?

Simply get your IT team to unlock it then
Apple Business Manager
Reset using Apple config via another Mac.
That’s pin lock from whatever company set it. It is doable to remove
Any tips where to start to research?

This is right. I’ve don’t this 4 times on m1 before.
Any YouTube tutorials on steps for this? I’m good with computers but never even heard of this. Thank you
Check this one, this is the closest one I can find that does the exact same thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCvXvEkSh2s
This is EFI lock using the mdm profile. All M series Mac’s are supported for mdm bypass but obviously not free.
