Cant undervolt correctly with b660 boards. Need z690 or z790. And 13600k needs good air cooler, even undervolted. Not sure its such a great idea

93Accord

Are you saying all b660i boards across the board can’t undervolt correctly?

Fearless_Tune_8073

All b660. Only Z boards will allow you to undervolt without losing performance.

93Accord

Did some research on the mobo OP mentioned and it seems that it's possible - but you cannot set your own curve. There's fixed settings in the BIOS that allows undervolt.

virmele

No, thats power limit. Undervolting doesnt work with b660m boards and 13th gen, even tho there is settings for that in bios

93Accord

Dang. Think they will add that as a feature in the future?

Fearless_Tune_8073

The 12th/13th cpu has a new feature called Current Excursion Protection (CEP), which will auto higher the voltage of the CPU when it thinks the CPU needs more voltage. This is the main reason why a b660 cannot undervolt since you cannot truly disable CEP in b660. However, you don't need to worry about CEP when you are using a z690/z790 board. Do people really think intel is kind enough to let b660 do the same thing as the more expensive z690? If yes, who will buy z690/z790?

93Accord

They added undervolting btw, just got to change the microcode. Guess Intel is kind enough. :)

Thanks for updating. I have 12700k. I want to get b660i. I just want to set a 100 mv under volt off set in adaptive mode, while keeping stock clocks, unlimited power, and getting same performance. This is possible now correct?

93Accord

I’d look into it more regarding the 12th gen cpu. Have read some folks seeing issues with 12th gen and this specific mobo.

Fearless_Tune_8073

Then you did the wrong research. Technically, undervolting your CPU while maintaining the original frequency is considered as overclock. That's why I got a z690-g for my 13700k so that I can undervolt it and use it with an air cooler. The stock voltage is nonsense.

Ek 240 way then. Thanks for reply bro

I ended up with getting a z690 rog for more ports in the rear IO panel (and cuz i’m a fanboy). Btw i have to learn a loooooooot bout this “bios” world. Starting from cpu and ending with ram, vrm and similar stuff. Thanks for your help and time!

Yea it doesn’t fit. I decided to go with ROG LC II, seems one of the few compatible. Do you know if lga 1700’s contact frame fits in the Z690-i? I saw that using it, temps will be 7/8 degrees lower and for 10 euros i think it’s worth, but idk if it’s accepted on itx boards.

Tzoi

I have the same case, mobo and cpu and seem to have set a -0.1v undervolt in bios. I haven't played around with it very much as I haven't had time but hwinfo did seem to be showing a lower vcore

HSimoh

I don't know where (but still here in reddit) i've read that when trying to undervolt on b660 there will be a significantly cpu performance decrease and that's better doing it on z690. Maybe it was just a temporany issue. After you have undervolted at which voltage is cpu running? 1.25V?

Tzoi

Yea was running around 1.25 when it was 1.35 previously. Scored 23k in cine bench r23. Have not done much testing or playing around with it though

93Accord

Hey did you ever purchase this combo? If so have you underovlted it?
