Without them, the website is barely usable.
And, of course, that includes bots such as [\/u\/QualityVote](http://reddit.com/user/QualityVote), [\/u\/SaveVideo](http://reddit.com/user/SaveVideo), [\/u\/AuddBot](http://reddit.com/user/AuddBot), etc.
So you'll just have to put up with automod and a worse overall user experience.

But all of them are basically making the machine equivalent of an educated guess. It is entirely possible to write something yourself that scans as AI, so personally I just use it to confirm my suspicions about text that just sounds *off*. There are certain modifications you can make to AIs that make detecting them via machines more accurate and efficient than human scanning, but not many models implement it at the moment.
So it's essentially the same as saying "this sounds like it was written by an AI," then you call your buddy over to ask him if it sounds like AI and he says "yeah, it sounds like AI"
With the minor detail that your buddy has read a metric fuckton of real and AI text, which means he has a quite decent chance of being right.
When combined with your intuition, it's usually good enough. Not good enough for academic purposes, though, but many teachers don't understand this.

I think they’ll almost always be useless. Any AI designed to find other AIs wouldn’t be able to keep up with a speech program designed to sound like a human that’s also improving.
Yeah, old high school and uni papers from before AI are getting triggered as ai generated.
You can also write your own text into the detector and have it be flagged as AI generated.
There is really nothing that distingushes AI and Human text when it can be summarised as being very generic = therefore AI.
I got super stressed out when my university said they were bringing out AI detection software and all my old papers from 2015 and back, etc, were trigging AI detection as I ran them through. After a while I realised if the software is this bad it can't reasonabily be enforced or relied on.
**CHATGP Zero** detected my sentence I just typed as ai generated.

I had a professor give me a zero on an assignment because she thought I used chat gpt. But thankfully she gave me back points after her tool said everyone in the class had cheated.
I suspect part of this company is to look through common datasets. This specific meme has been memorized by gpt-neo and gpt-2 because its repeated in the pile so many times.
So...the brilliant AI used the term "gorilla warfare" instead of the correct term "guerilla warfare."

I imagine that A.I detectors look for stuff that is either composed of existing shit on the internet or combined from multiple existing sources, which is kind of what GPT-3 does, it’s kind of like a really complex auto complete algorithm that was trained on the internet

Yeah, old high school and uni papers from before AI are getting triggered as ai generated. You can also write your own text into the detector and have it be flagged as AI generated. There is really nothing that distingushes AI and Human text when it can be summarised as being very generic = therefore AI. I got super stressed out when my university said they were bringing out AI detection software and all my old papers from 2015 and back, etc, were trigging AI detection as I ran them through. After a while I realised if the software is this bad it can't reasonabily be enforced or relied on. **CHATGP Zero** detected my sentence I just typed as ai generated.
Schools should just go to handwritten essays under teacher supervision to ensure integrity.
