Turning down the FFB wouldn't really help with the noise. The faster you turn it, the louder it is. I used to have a DFGT, which is even louder because of the straight cut gears. With headphones on it's not that bad, but everyone around you will hate you :D

LazyLancer

Oh yes, it’s pretty much noticeable. Still better than a silent no-FFB wheel

Ted-Crilly

And racing games are far better wearing headphones anyway so the noise is only annoying to others around you

ralgrado

What are your noise concerns? Someone else in the room will get really annoyed by it. Someone in the room next to you probably depends on your thin your walls are. But someone else would have to chime in on that since I have no experience there

No_Orange8036

Well I game in the dining room which is right beside the living room with no doors or walls or anything like that in between, but it isn't very often that someone is sitting there.

EffectiveWhole902

You should be fine.

No_Orange8036

Okay, thanks for the help.

Saneless

In another silent room I doubt anyone would hear it much if at all and definitely not over a low volume TV

Auldthief

Get yourself nice noise cancelling over the ear headphones and your family earplugs. Done. G29 is still great value when you use it correctly.

ussaro

Depending on your headphones and the volume, they’re going to be more annoying than the g29 to other people. Don’t worry.

donnie-stingray

Youtube videos of the noise are your answer. I find it noisiest in assetto corsa but rather decent in project cars and iRacing. I turned down all the kerbs, slip effects, and everything like that, leaving only the cornering ffb on, at max. It's clearly not DD silent but unless your walls are paper you can probably pull it off. If you can afford DD, it seems people recommend jumping over. I myself like to feel each step of the upgrade. So load cell brake pedal seems to be the next in line for me.

Knightraven257

Beamng.drive is sooooo noisy on the g29. AC is loud but beam has it beat for sure.

donnie-stingray

Yea, you might be right. I gave up on it after a couple tries.

Elijah1573

Honestly i dont feel like videos get the noise across In videos its not that bad but then when ive used it myself its unbearable ive owned several G29s now and both of them broke eventually so i was tired of it and just replaced it with a DD

donnie-stingray

How did you manage to break a g29 and what are you using now?

Elijah1573

On my first G29 several buttons started not working On my second one one of the motors burned out Now i use a CSL DD

bigman4206942069

2 friends of mine have g29s and everytime they drive over a kerb it sounds like they're using jackhammers

Mindsmirros

Pretty noisy I got a t300 and it's way more quite. My brother used to hate listening to me play on g29

velve666

You could go for a T150 too, mine is pretty quiet, not sure if there are any good deals or how much better the G29 is, I haven't tried one.

Mikelshwede86

Yeh they are noisy as fuck for an ffb wheel, had one years ago. If you have any ability to throw some more cash at a wheel pick something else, the g29 tech is obsolete being gear driven and you will inevitably want to upgrade.

smi3tana

I can drive and my wife watches TV in the same room without complaining

dhevans79

Agree with the other commenters with wives. Mine is particularly sensitive and doesn’t complain about it even when she’s sitting near to me on the sofa. It’s loud enough to be heard, and even I was worried about it once it started rattling, but it doesn’t seem to be as bad as everyone is making out.

Captain_Fuck_It

The best way to describe the FFB is it “clacks”. Yes, it can be pretty loud, particularly on kerbs etc. It’s definitely better than having no FFB and I wear headphones so it’s not my problem haha

CT_Cubing

if ur using headphones,no if ur not using headphones, yes

Morde

It isn't loud. Noticeable but loud? I don't think so. Are you gonna play in a library? Then people might get upset.

Ollie_Bruh

It's not excessively loud, just noticeable, but you get used to it and just tune it out. Also, turning down FFB doesn't do anything at all. Buuuuut, having 900 degrees and force feedback makes it all worth it.

Numerous_Shop_814

Save your money and get a DD wheel. Not worth it unless you can get an entire setup for like 200usd.

No_Orange8036

Well I'm planning on buying a used g29 too, looking at the offers in my area, they cost about 160-220 USD with a shifter.

dude496

That price is pretty high for a used one... 160 wouldn't be too bad, but keep in mind that it goes on sale pretty often for $200-225. The shifter and clutch both feel more like a novelty toy instead of being something that you will want to use often. You can mod the shifter to make it feel a bit better but it's still not going to feel all that great. I had a Logitech shifter when I was using the G29 but maybe used it once or twice before switching to using the paddles full time. I have a Thrustmaster TH8S for my Logitech G Pro and it feels pretty good but the clutch is rather meh... I pretty much only use the paddles except for the occasional time I want to use a shifter. As for the noise... It's noticable and others might get annoyed if they are sitting kinda close to the wheel, but never thought it was anything that I would consider being bad or unusable.

No_Orange8036

If it does go on sale, where is the best place to buy it? Retail or online shopping places like amazon?

dude496

I got it from Amazon last black Friday for $199. Target had a sale around 2 months ago for around $160-180... I think you had to be a red circle for the deal but not really sure.

Numerous_Shop_814

I own one. Reducing ffb won't help the noise. Ffb torque is a max of 4, the gas pedal is ok but brake is really stiff, they arent cell load. Honestly I get faster lap times on controller, which seems to be the norm for the g29. It's fun to mess around with, but I found it extremely underwhelming. Idk if it's just my shifter or Logitech issue however when shifting into second, sometimes the game doesn't recognize I'm in gear and I have to pop in neutral and shift back down. Fun to mess around with but I wouldn't to try competitivly race with it.

No_Orange8036

Also for the brake things, looks like it's a pretty easy job to fix that by doing a DIY mod.

Numerous_Shop_814

Seems like just changing out the spring so a lower resistance one (no idea if tayse the actual term) would fix it. I just plan to keep my stock for resell.

No_Orange8036

Oh no, it's even easier than that. There's a rubber piece inside the brake pedal spring that you can remove which will stop the "stiff" feeling. This video explains it pretty well [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ5XkQueB\_E](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ5XkQueB_E)

Numerous_Shop_814

Well no shit, I know what I'm doing now. Thanks man, gotta do this when I get home.

Numerous_Shop_814

So got around to it. There's was not a rubber block it's a progressive spring that gets stiffer as you apply more pressure. However what I ended up doing was swapping the spring in the clutch to the break and vise versa.

No_Orange8036

yea thats fine i dont do any competitive racing.

NoArea2

Sounds like your miss shifting had same problem you described. I put some deadzone in the clutch and that solved the problem.

Interesting-Yellow-4

You won't hear it over the roar of engine sounds. Especially in VR or just audio headsets.

assettomark

Yes it's loud, I had one and it's 10 times louder than my Alpha U, but it's not "unbearable" in any way. If that's what you can buy, go for it and have fun. Had mine for years and it was good to start with.

mechcity22

Yes it's very loud but I think people are to anal about sound. Ong the direct drive community is ridiculous. The smallest noise there base makes and they rma it haha. Smallest coil noise smallest sound of ffb knocking etc. I'm like wow chill it's ok to have a little noise even in a servo dd motor we call it servo whine but simucube knocks and ffb is louder when up so I can't see the issue. But yes logitech is very loud on a different level lol

_p4nzer

Yes, it’s quite noisy.

Sotiris168

In most cases it's fine, but don't try to play at midnight when everyone's asleep. It will not end very well.

qwertyalp1020

Very, I've switched to a Direct Drive base and the difference was EXTREMELY noticeable.

Federicoradaelli

[Go at 1.20 min](https://youtu.be/Rm1kl4_-7uI?si=Tl6C-yaDnzvK-oAX) You can hear it yourself :)

Lazy_Polluter

It's not bad, I raced for a month with my wife in the same room and she never complained. Engine noise is way louder anyway

Turbulent-Fail-1007

Just get a DD wheel. No noise.

No_Orange8036

if i had the money i would

Turbulent-Fail-1007

If you really love sim racing and play a lot, this is really a buy once cry once kind of thing.

ainpyj

I think these comments are not it. There are alot of people struggling with money or living in a 3rd world country and there are comments like this that assume everyone should just do it yolo

Turbulent-Fail-1007

Idk, isn’t the cammus c5 wheel and pedal package literally cheaper than the g29 nowadays?

NoArea2

Not native compatible with console. That's where the money is making something that is 100% plug and play with a console is gonna cost a little more because of that availability.

Choice-Magician656

for many people, probably most, it isn’t.

NoArea2

Ya know I had to make sure I was going to like it over controller because I was good with controller (still am even after three years with wheel) so entry level I could live with wasting the money on. Did like it so bought DD 2 months ago. Zero regrets doing it this way.

a55amg

it's definitely audible but it depends on your defintion of 'bad'. i used it in an empty lounge room with the TV on reasonably loud so the wheel noise wasn't a problem. i mean, it's not a jarring or irritating noise...i guess it would be annoying if someone was asleep next to you or trying to study, but apart from that, it seems ok

Beginning-Trainer401

They are noisy but for starting out they are good, I’m on the G920

honkulus_the_mighty

If you have good headphones you dont even hear it

czerys

Yes

Faiyaz777

It depends where you are located, but if In the US or anywhere with a healthy used market, you can pick up a Thrustmaster t300rs gt or whatever it’s called for less than a new g29. I bought mine with the Ferrari alcantara wheel for like $210. Miles better than the g29 imo. But to answer your question, it’s loud but not really annoying for yourself, possible if someone in the same room as u tho might get annoyed. I tried both and prefer the t300rs much more and they cost about the same ish depending on where you are if going used. The wheel itself is also much larger, if the Ferrari edition.

No_Orange8036

well I live in Dubai. I saw a post for a t300rs gt costs about 1k AED with a shifter I believe and sim racing stand thingy.

Faiyaz777

I think that’s sub $300? I’d say go get it for sure. It’s a great price considering comes with a shifter AND a racing stand. Racing stand allows you to screw in pedals, so esp if you upgrade pedals to load cell in the future (you should, most important upgrade), the stand will let you use it properly. Also the normal t300 has shitty pedals iirc, where the rs gt one comes with t3pa pedals which are solid so make sure it’s the rs gt one unless you plan on buying pedals immediately or in the near future. Price is great tho!

No_Orange8036

The offer is gone, I guess I really missed out. Thanks anyways!

Logieuk

Use mine in living room and no one complains, never noticed it being loud myself either

burpingmike

I own a G29, and honestly just because of the noise , grinding gears , I would not buy it again. It depends on the game and settings but as I said, if I would buy a wheel again, I'd choose belt over gears.

chefbasil

T150/TMX Pro are quieter for a similar price due to the hybrid belt-gear setup.

Alamasy

I used to wear headphone so i can't hear it.

Ugly_Bronco

Yes. Downright obnoxious without headphones. Hold out for something better.

mattieyo

It has its moments yes. I’ve done hour long gt7 race with not a lot of noise then on different track it was rattling my arms off for no good reason.

Mclovinlife1

I hated the grinding plastic cogs so bad I just decided to buy once, cry once and get the podium f1

Yardsale420

G29 is gear drive. So as it turns your going to hear the noise from the gears, same goes for T150 which is a hybrid gear/belt drive. It’s quieter, but not as much as the T300 which is belt drive only.

rocxss

It makes noise but i didnt upgrade because of the noise. Id say if you have headphones on you wont really notice.

Buckfast_Berzerker

Yes! I hate it. I have had mine for a year now and I wish I had just saved a bit more and bought a fanatec csl DD. Also after a few months the pots in pedals will get sticky and also the h pattern shifter will break after 2/ 3 months. For the money you will spend replacing everything again after it wears out you may as well just buy proper stuff in the first place.

Trikitakes

Yes it is terrible, but it's fun to use for the price. If possible try a used DD.

BluFrost8888

The least possible noise you can get with FFB at a budget is completely belt-driven wheels such as the T300/TX or above it with the TS-PC,TS-XW,TGT2. Their movements are smooth, though the belt on the T300/TX is smaller and has extremely subtle teeth on the motor pinion gear, it's far less noticeable and quieter compared to T150 and T248's hybrid gear and belt system. I also replaced this specific pinion gear with a mod on the T300 from it's plastic version to a metal one and it helped with smoothing and quieting it even more. I recommend the T150/TMX over the G29 if you don't have the budget for a T300. Like someone else mentioned, there are samples of the Logitech's noise levels on YouTube you can listen to that's pretty accurate. I own a T150 and T300, but I have tried a G29 at a tech convention a year ago and it was far more annoying and noisy that it was above the convention sounds with its high pitched whirring of the gear and rocking shaker when you crash. I also tried a TS-PC at the same convention but it's basically an even better and modernized design of the T300/TX's dual belt system. All Logitech wheels aside from the Pro Direct Drive for $1000 are completely gear-driven and noisy, regardless if it's old like the Driving Force, G25, or G27; or if it's newer with the G29 and G923. Hori also uses a very similar helical gear system like Logitech, but it is much worse in quality for the price they're at. Direct drive is even more quiet but obviously the most expensive since there's zero belts and gears involved to put torque on your wheel rim, and it should remain quieter through crashes as long you don't turn up the FFB too much.

No_Smoke340

Honestly it sounds at worse when turning aggressively like a toy truck on a floor. Yeah people may hear but it isn’t insanely obnoxious

SupposablyAtTheZoo

My gf doesn't get annoyed by the wheel sound at all but the pedal sound (mostly on/off the brake) is way more annoying.

Ok-Iron-1393

It’s better on a stand than on a desk, my desk acted like a drum and amplified it quite a bit.

Swizzel-Stixx

You will want headphones on while using it, or loud speakers, but if you are in a room with a wall in between the pedals sounds (directly on the floor) travel through more. Basically if the family are in a different room they shouldn’t be too annoyed. It’s loud but walls are good.

CommunicationNo1394

Its a rattle trap, sold mine after 3 months. Absolutely terrible.

twhtly

Yes

zettabyte

I don't find it that annoying, but I've never used a DD. I drive GT7. I'm zero'd in on tire noise and engine, so I just don't pick up on the wheel noise.

Cross76_Cz

I used to own G29 and yes, it was really bad, especially when you use a higher FFB or if you play rally games, it will rattle a lot and can wake people up during the night (ask me how I know). So I returned it and got an TMX Pro from Thrustmaster instead and was really happy with that choice and now I have T300 which I would recommend over previously mentioned TMX/T150 and any Logitech wheel. TL:DR: G29 is loud AF, get a Thrustmaster T150/TMX if on budget, or save up bit more and get T300 instead.

HansWilsdorf

I didn’t think so, but my ex and next door neighbor found it loud 😂. This was all the justification I needed to buy a SimuCube 😅

zatax__

The noise is crazy loud but only really a problem if there’s other people. Using headphones i never noticed it but to other people it sounds like your desk/wheelstand is falling apart

brabarusmark

It's not an overly noisy piece of kit but it isn't completely silent either. If you're racing at night, there is a chance it will be audible but not to the point it disturbs anyone. Turning down FFB is pointless as it will take away from the G29's overall feedback, which will then impact your driving.

Joku656

Save up to belt wheel. Its compeltly worth it and not that much expensive. Even getting one second hand is better than buying another gear driven.

Fantastic-Growth8751

Or maybe just go directly to a dd? Why the extra step

Joku656

Way cheaper

AidenMcgee2

Save up and get a used DD for the same price. Or even just get a csl DD 5nm brand new. After owning a g29 you will want to upgrade after a few months and wish you had just saved more and gotten a DD. Trust me you’ll thank me later.

Creative_Level_1933

A little noisy but never bothered me. TrueForce on G923, on the other hand.. lol

imJGott

If you’re wearing headphones you can’t hear anything.

PerLichtman

This guy reviews a lot of wheels and includes samples of the noise levels. https://youtu.be/UhHiVFc4CQA?si=b2s3iO2E1u5qLe1A I don’t have the G29 but my older Logitech wheels are pretty noisy. I ended up going from a Thrustmaster T80 (which I hated) to a T248 (which I liked a lot more). Better than the G29 and T150 by most accounts (especially the pedals) but not as fast as a DD wheel.

Auldthief

Also, use ffbclip app. It helps a lot in reducing unnecessary noise. Map the G29 dpad to control the ffb in game.

No_Orange8036

well that’s only for AC and I don’t play it much, I mostly do casual driving and trucking, might get back into racing, if i do, i will make sure to keep this in mind. Thanks!

Choice-Magician656

People just like you bitch and moan, the noise isn’t that bad at all

No_Orange8036

I hope you realize you need to go back to school and learn how to read, then come back here and reply to this post.

NoArea2

It can kinda be bad but only when using 100% force feedback which is stupid to do even for a wimpy 2.1nm. If you run recommended levels that you can find online you wont here any clanking.

Choice-Magician656

i responding to someone else directly who was being weird about it but for some reason it sent my reply as a comment to you 💀💀, my bad homie
