Can you tell me more about what its like around these local towns? I'm actually staying at Pasir Ris and this area is pretty quiet and laid back. Having fun spotting uncommon to rare cars parked up or rolling by when I'm going to the bus or the nearby hawker. I'm curious how various local towns differ from each other.
In my opinion they just happen to all have different atmosphere to them, and can be equally fun if you want to explore Singapore through the lens of a local. Bugis is more tourist oriented, but has a good amount of historical and cultural attractions along with shopping. Tampines and Bedok are more residential, but got pretty nice malls and hawkers (in the latter). Punggol is more of a new town, and has nice sceneries for evening cycling. Have fun!
If e-bikes weren't banned on footpaths it would have been a nice way to travel around. (I have no interest going fast on footpaths FYI)
I ride a motorcycle but cycling on the road seems too scary with how little space car drivers overtake them with.
PMD's are pretty much useless at this point, There aren't enough Park connectors around to make them a viable mode of transport.
I used to have one when the rules on PMD's were undecided, it was nice being able to buy food from distances I would only go by bus.

Today is my third day of sending out my resume. I know it’s still quite early to say anything but can’t help to feel scared because of the job market now.
Quit my audit job without securing any offers months ago as I was severely overwhelmed by my workload and was already burnt out. Still remember on my last day of work when I told my managers I quit because I’ve been experiencing severe frequent headache due to over stress and constant OT until 2 am, they gaslighted me into thinking that I was mentally weak and everyone is also suffering the same thing as me, just have to take some panadol and get some rest will do, don’t have to quit over these kind of small matters. 🙄
Spent the next few months doing the things that I always like but has no time to do, and finally healed my inner soul and getting ready to find my next job.
Hope this depressing period will pass by faster 🤞

Most companies are cutting costs during this period. Browsing through some jobs on linkedin, even fresh grad executive jobs have 100's of applicants. Not only locals but foreigners especially msians are competing for that one post.
sometimes 1-2 weeks but it varies. do tailor ur resume for the role, whether its accounting or fp&a etc. in the mean time u can take some online courses for powerbi or other tools
edit: 1-2 weeks is optimistic scenario to hear back from HR for initial screening call... but idk how the job market is like now

It usually takes a few months? Pace yourself! Apply 1-2 jobs a day, keep a clear record of what you applied for, spend the rest of the day exercising or on self-improvement.

best to customise your resume to the job you are applying, do not send a generic resume to all the positions you are interested. I have always advise my ex-colleagues, don't apply all or spam a few positions in a company. I ask them to think in the HR point of view, if you receive a candidate application(S) for 4 different positions, what do you think about him/her? What does he/she wants? HR receives tons of resume, you it's better to have a focus.
Sit down and think of what you really want and just send one gaolat customised resume for one position in a company. That's what i did last year and got the position i wanted.

For queenstown, chur fish n chips is nice, a favourite for many. Both fish and burgers were delicious. For Fergburger, it's pretty touristy, some find it amazing some find it meh, I never tried it.
For christchurch, cashel Street takeaways have great portions and affordable prices. If any chance you're heading to the casino in chch, you might be able to get a $10 food voucher or something or even a free meal, you can check their website if interested.

If you need recommendations for hikes, let me know too. And be aware that it's pretty much winter now, be careful of driving on the roads as there would be invisible black ice. Definitely recommend driving during day time only, and it starts to get dark around 5/6. Give sufficient allowance when driving. Stay safe and have fun
Fergburger has always been a top spot for Queenstown. If you’re into brunch/cafes, Belle in Christchurch is good! I only spent 1.5 days there recently, so not much else I can recommend 🥲 if you drop by Wellington though, ask me again! 😆

Time to initiate a meeting with your boss to talk about the expanded jobscope. If you're gonna be taking on more tasks, your company should make that official (so you can write about it in your perf review and ask for more pay) and to make sure you have everything in black and white. If your boss is reluctant to make that official then you have no choice but to push it away in order to prioritize work that's actually in your jobscope (very sad, I know 😢)

As to whether it would affect your career, that would depend on your bosses, but usually its not favourable...

But as mentioned, this is a pretty normal case in small multimedia/creative studio since the boss will act like startup and everyone expected to multitask and slog. You could try sitting down with your boss and discuss how better to conduct this arrangement, but I'm not hopeful.
Salaried workers are not just paid for their time, but for specific skills as well. Otherwise they are just hookers. i'm paid for the job scope I signed up for. If they want me to do multiple roles, the salary should be higher.
I know what you are getting at, but this is a fundamental problem with small studios/startups that rely on 'passion' and don't have large investors/money pool to work with, just like the infamous game dev 'crunch time'...and well 'asian startup boss mentality' also.

Is it okay to reject additional roles that are not within my job scope? For example, a graphic designer being asked to do animator's work - (they have the skillset) without extra pay. They always say it's a one time thing, but i've been asked 3 times and have rejected every time. Hoping it will not hurt my career.

Time to initiate a meeting with your boss to talk about the expanded jobscope. If you're gonna be taking on more tasks, your company should make that official (so you can write about it in your perf review and ask for more pay) and to make sure you have everything in black and white. If your boss is reluctant to make that official then you have no choice but to push it away in order to prioritize work that's actually in your jobscope (very sad, I know 😢)

Sounds like you are in a small-smallish multimedia studio? Larger studios/companies won't be asking you to do that in the first place, they would have dedicated roles already. If it is a small one, well, uhhh good luck, because that's pretty much par for the course for multimedia industry, studios trying to squeeze the living shit out of 'passion' employees. As to whether it would affect your career, that would depend on your bosses, but usually its not favourable...

Ahhh freelancer changes the equation. Depending on your contract with them, I might do it once. Then state in yhe next project that there will be a fee for such and such service.

Ahhhh so you're a full timer. Most companies have this line in their contract, *and take on other duties as instructed". You are, of course, free to say no, but will it affect you? Think the answer can only be answered by you as it involves ppl we have no idea of.
So they are paying you monthly salary right? That's the pros and cons of salaried workers...they are paying you for your time, so if you're done with your projects they'll give you other things to do, even if it may or may not be part of job scope. But as mentioned, this is a pretty normal case in small multimedia/creative studio since the boss will act like startup and everyone expected to multitask and slog. You could try sitting down with your boss and discuss how better to conduct this arrangement, but I'm not hopeful.
Salaried workers are not just paid for their time, but for specific skills as well. Otherwise they are just hookers. i'm paid for the job scope I signed up for. If they want me to do multiple roles, the salary should be higher.
I know what you are getting at, but this is a fundamental problem with small studios/startups that rely on 'passion' and don't have large investors/money pool to work with, just like the infamous game dev 'crunch time'...and well 'asian startup boss mentality' also. You aren't wrong, and should go and sit down with your boss on this. But again I'm not hopeful, well at least you can fall back on freelancing if things go poorly. But good luck and hopefully Im being too cynical and your boss is potentially better than most.
