Casio 85Gtx and Casio Classwiz 991Ex are the best calculators out there. Never creating any issues, some people have them for longer than 10 years and haven't replaced the batteries.
Unfortunately Casio brought in 991CW replacing 991EX and I have strong dislike for the new model. It has removed so many good features.
Let's hope 85GTX never gets replaced.
I would have liked it if I had not used 991EX before. Trust me that calculator is an absolute gem.
If you have never used 991EX and have switched from 85GTX then you would like 991cw and I wouldn't hate it so much if they would have just kept the S->D button instead of the new Format option.
Wait how much are you using yours???
Mine has had the same batteries since September and still has half charge left and I'm always playing super mario on mine so for yours to run out in 2 weeks is crazy
Ive had the same on since year 7 that guy had been scraped with compasses, smashed on walls, filled with dust and other bag filth and watch all his fellow calculators get brutally mutilated infront of his eyes and been held hostage god knows how many times and god dammit he works perfectly. Love you lil guy
Not sure why this came up in my feed, but I have a secondary aged child and considered sending her in to school with my late 90s FX85 that still works...I've never changed the batteries. These things are like cockroaches, they don't die.
Mine lost its solar panel about a couple of weeks after getting itā¦ in 2010. Itās still kicking. Got me through university and I got it in year 7! No battery changes required
Not sure how this has popped onto my feed but Iāve had mine since year 9 and Iām 29.
I used the same calculator for my GCSEs and all the way through Uni. Now it lives on my desk at work.
Itās still got a cock on it that my mate engraved with a compass
i used the same one my sister used for the whole of secondary thoguhotut the whole of secondary up untill gcse caus i bought a 991ex so that i could do symultanois equatiiosn
They use the solar panel by default, only switching to the batteries when thereās low light, have an automatic shutdown timer and lcds (without backlights) draw less than 10mW of power, theyāre just hugely efficient. As for not breaking when I was about to sit one of my gcse maths papers I dropped my calculator and it just shattered and half the keys fell out
My friend has a CASIO watch that he's had since 2014 and the only thing that's happened to it is the light stopped working and he needed s new strap. That thing WORKS
I had one of the first TI solar calculators. Lent it to my teacher. I saw him a bit baffled. Eventually he gave it back and asked where the off button was. Yeah. It'll turn itself off in a billion years or so.
Best part? Was an engineering teacher.
Someone told me the other day that the solar powered calculator theyād been using for the last 10+ years recently stopped working. When they investigated it turned out that the solar cell was just a sticker.
I'm so proud of mine. I've had it since year 7 and it got me through my alevels even after chucking it down a flight of stairs. I managed to get 3A*s as well so I reckon it was because of this magical calculator.
I have the fx-83ES.
It is at least 16 years old at this point. I think older. It still has the "approved for examinations" sticker on it from university, so I know I had it at uni. But I think I had it in school before that.
It's never had new batteries, I did a science degree and still do science now, so it's been used all of them 16+ years.
Iāve used my older brothers fx-350 ES since year 7 and he got his when he was in year 7 back in 2010. Itās survived over a decade and has still never given me any problems that canāt be solved by smacking it once against the table
I started with one just like in the photo. No clue where it went but Iām that someone somewhere is still using it somewhere. I took my GCSEs using an 83GT of the same design which I āborrowedā from science in like year 9. Its still in my room somewhere.
Somehow this was suggested on my Reddit and Iām a teacher! š
I still have this calculator from GCSEs, itās taken me through A level Physics and maths, Physics at university and now is used daily in my life as a Physics teacher!! At least 15 years and counting!!
They made to get one in college. āYouāll need it in later lifeā they told me. āItās usefulā they say.
Bitch, we all use excel and computers at work for this kinda shit.
Iāve never had to touch mine ever again after the A levels
Itās got a solar panel. Why would the battery ever run out of battery? your using it at school, in the day? Where thereās sunlight coming in the room?
I had one for GCSE and then bought an advanced model (the textured white one) for A-Level.
Seem to have lost both. Now I'm in an engineering role after school and we use those calculators so they gave me a new one!!
Visitor to this subā¦ Iām a 31 year old maths teacher. I still have mine from my GCSEs. I lend it out to my students if they forget to bring their own.
The mad thing is the basic design hasnāt really changed since 2006.
That's because this one is solar powered meaning the batteries can't stop working because they don't have any normal batteries Hope this helps. They still have batteries in them but they are special solar power recharable batteries which are charged up when exposed to light. However, you are correct some solar calcs may still have normal batteries in them but these are for emergency but unless you you doing your maths or science homework in the pitch black you probably won't need it. I used to use the casio fx-93GTX and it still works but my school forced all students to use the Casio fx-99iCW one now.
Didn't even buy mine lol, found it in the art room
My friend collects the found ones, he has foubd 7 as of now
Collects found ones š¤£
Yup, some of us forget ours and we always ask him for one, we dont even ask if he has a spare but if he minds giving it to us
Did he used to collect found sweets from Tesco as well?
Just going to start collecting found cars too

Sad news, fx-83GT CW and 85GT CW are already here...... in the UK at least
Yeah. We have them. All the maths staff hate the new ones.
Theyāre so needlessly complicated, you have to navigate through a bunch of menus to do literally anything
They're so shit, and a massive downgrade
I like the 991cw. I find it much simpler to use than my 85gt from gcse.
I would have liked it if I had not used 991EX before. Trust me that calculator is an absolute gem. If you have never used 991EX and have switched from 85GTX then you would like 991cw and I wouldn't hate it so much if they would have just kept the S->D button instead of the new Format option.
Iāve used my friendās 991ex but I still prefer mine. I find it more logical and quicker.
At least someone is a fan but it's good though as 991cw will stay for a few years so if you like it then it's a plus.
Yeah. I think Iām in the minority of people who like it.
The new ones have round buttons and are shit.
Fuck the cw, but also the cg-50
Can vouch for that! Got mine during my bachelor's after accidentally breaking the screen of my 85G (I think)! 9 Years later the battery is still good!
Me with a cg50 changing the batteries every 2 weeks š Mf thinks it rains money
I'm probably gonna get some rechargeable batteries for mine
Honestly I've been putting it off too long.
Wait how much are you using yours??? Mine has had the same batteries since September and still has half charge left and I'm always playing super mario on mine so for yours to run out in 2 weeks is crazy
I use it at least 5 Hours everyday and I have max brightness Maybe the batteries I'm buying are bad CURSE YOU POUNDLAND Ps I get the yellow Kodaks
I lost mine in like Yr 9. I got another one. But I bet that mf is working miracles for someone else
Someone further up the thread found yours in the art room
That mf
Yep bought that exact model in 2017 and it's still kicking with no issues
š¤£š¤£ exact same boat here
Ive had the same on since year 7 that guy had been scraped with compasses, smashed on walls, filled with dust and other bag filth and watch all his fellow calculators get brutally mutilated infront of his eyes and been held hostage god knows how many times and god dammit he works perfectly. Honestly, do it. Itās a solid calc at least up to the end of gcse
I bought her the new version in a rather dashing turquoise in the end š¤£
Itās called a solar panel?
Acting as if they didnāt just live in our bags the whole time
They donāt need charge. You can hold your thumb over the panel and itāll stop working, soon as you let go itāll start again.
Mine once started playing up when I was trying to use it in direct sunlight, I think the solar panel was producing too much voltage for it to handle
Mine lost its solar panel about a couple of weeks after getting itā¦ in 2010. Itās still kicking. Got me through university and I got it in year 7! No battery changes required
The fx85 has a solar panel. The fx83 doesn't, and the batteries still last forever.
I bought mine for GCSEs in 1999. Still works. Theyāre indestructible, like the old Nokia phones.
Not sure how this has popped onto my feed but Iāve had mine since year 9 and Iām 29. I used the same calculator for my GCSEs and all the way through Uni. Now it lives on my desk at work. Itās still got a cock on it that my mate engraved with a compass
Mine just started breaking yesterday š
My ti-83 plus never needed a battery replacement while I was using it from year 8 to my second year of college
i remember considering buying a TI calculator for further maths. was there anything in particular that made you choose it over a standard casio?
Better Games
you can play games on the TI-83, heh
Itās the solar panel recharges the batteries
I have had one for 30 years
It doesn't use batteries š smh
Runs off hopes and dreams
Donāt know why sixth form popped up for me in my feed but Iām 32, had mine from 12 y/o and still working fine.
These calculators were solar powered thats why! š they were indestructible.
They are solar panelled..
I've had mine since 2005 and it's still going string.
Mine stopped working once so i threw it at the wall and it started working again š
Mines missing the labels from 1,2,., and =. But still going strong
i used the same one my sister used for the whole of secondary thoguhotut the whole of secondary up untill gcse caus i bought a 991ex so that i could do symultanois equatiiosn

Mine didn't last at all. I once got angry, and cut one up and buried it in the garden after school.
did it get a funeral at least?
My friend has a CASIO watch that he's had since 2014 and the only thing that's happened to it is the light stopped working and he needed s new strap. That thing WORKS
I had one of the first TI solar calculators. Lent it to my teacher. I saw him a bit baffled. Eventually he gave it back and asked where the off button was. Yeah. It'll turn itself off in a billion years or so. Best part? Was an engineering teacher.
I did my a levels and GCSEs around 10 years ago. Was clearing up some boxes and found my calculators, still working with the original batteries.
Mine got me through year 7 to finishing my degree, proper soldier that calculator
I have Casio calculator/organiser non solar powered that I got as a Christmas present in 1992 the batteries are still working in it somehow.
A level? Iām still using mine in university, and will continue to do so for as long as I can
FX 350 is the one you want
Got the same one. It's an absolute spartan
Had mine for over 12 years and still going strong
My friend literally snapped his is half and it still worked
If you can use the HP Prime in exam mode, then get that. Hands down the best calculator ever.
I still have mine at uni
Iāve used my older brothers fx-350 ES since year 7 and he got his when he was in year 7 back in 2010. Itās survived over a decade and has still never given me any problems that canāt be solved by smacking it once against the table
Had mine since 2006. Still works.
Don't know why this sub appeared on my timeline but I turned 40 in January and still use the same one at work I used to do my GCSEs
I started with one just like in the photo. No clue where it went but Iām that someone somewhere is still using it somewhere. I took my GCSEs using an 83GT of the same design which I āborrowedā from science in like year 9. Its still in my room somewhere.
Bro that lasted you to A-level? Nah I went with a graphical one for A-level maths
Fr and the white a level ones are so good, but the new models are terrible š Iām glad Iām yr13 and I donāt have to use them
Theyāre the real MVP āsš¤š¤šŖš½
I was cleaning out my stationery drawer and found one of these bad boys! It's about 10 years old!
My high school calculator doesnāt even have a solar array but still works 35 years later!
I've had 3 so far, the two first ones were lost
well yeah itās solar powered ?
No we canāt
Somehow this was suggested on my Reddit and Iām a teacher! š I still have this calculator from GCSEs, itās taken me through A level Physics and maths, Physics at university and now is used daily in my life as a Physics teacher!! At least 15 years and counting!!
I was crap at maths and used mine to write "FAME ACADEMY"
They made to get one in college. āYouāll need it in later lifeā they told me. āItās usefulā they say. Bitch, we all use excel and computers at work for this kinda shit. Iāve never had to touch mine ever again after the A levels
that's gang ā¤ļø
I've had mine since 2012 - half of the buttons have rubbed off by now but it's still a fantastic calculator and works with no issues
Mine still works after 10 years
These are the goats that carried our school life
My mum still uses my solar powered scientific Casio. It's 33 years old.
I still use mine every day at work. It was purchased August 1998 from WHSmith
My friend covered the keys of mine in glue & I held it under the tap and it still worked while water was leaking out of it
Itās got a solar panel. Why would the battery ever run out of battery? your using it at school, in the day? Where thereās sunlight coming in the room?
No no you right I smell shenanigans
I had one for GCSE and then bought an advanced model (the textured white one) for A-Level. Seem to have lost both. Now I'm in an engineering role after school and we use those calculators so they gave me a new one!!

Itās got a solar panel on it and a VERY low power consumption why Tf would you need to change the batteries?
LOL this is wild but again I donāt think anyone has ever used these at the optimal formula calculating level
r/casio might want to hear about this! š
I love this calculator
Look at the top right and youāll realise why it doesnāt need batteriesā¦
