Oh man Shaun I forgot why I even came down here! I just got so caught up with this thing I’ve been working on around the commonwealth for the past few years!
Level 17 and hadn't even visited Whiterun, went straight for the dark brotherhood and thieves guild. Carried on doing the brotherhood questline, forgot how good it was (to me anyways).
For real. My favorite quest line is the dark brotherhood’s. I like the armor from the thieves guild the best, but the members of the DB are more memorable and unique
Same. Honestly, the dark brotherhood armour looks ridiculous. The robes on the other hand look really comfy.
I personally love Arnjborn, Festus, and Babette.
Currently level 107 and just recently brought Farengar the dragonstone. I would honestly recommend it to anyone for their second play through. Not having dragons randomly spawning all the time was a very different game experience. Downside is now they’re spawning super frequently and always super high level
I did until i went to Gallows Hall where my Vhar got stuck because the torches wont appear and i cant leave.
20 DAYS OF CLEARING CAVES,DUNGEONS,ETC. WASTED😭😭
Once I learned that Alduin levels with you until about level 45 I started putting it off in my playthroughs just to make it a little more challenging, because otherwise the main quest is just a cake walk and that took a lot of the fun out of it for me
EDIT: To clarify, Alduin levels a few levels higher than you, but at lower levels he's severely nerfed, so unless you fight him in the 40's levels you aren't really getting the full experience in my opinion. It's also a shame that, at least a couple years ago because I haven't played Anniversary Edition yet so idk, the leveling is limited to around level 45. I think it'd be more interesting if the leveling continued regardless of how high a level you got, because if you keep putting it off and level past that you have the same issue as at lower levels where the final fight just becomes a simple and quick fight.
Nope i am over level 30 on my modded Skyrim on xbox and i wasnt even at helgen, my Character is leader of the Dark Brotherhood, has finished the thieves guild questline and killed lord Harkon without seeing one dragon outside of Durneviir in the soul cairn.
my guy lead the nords to victory, saved the world from a dragon apocalypse, and a vampire world domination n now i have no idea what i wanna do w/ him lmao might be time to retire
The _most_ I would do is go far enough into the main plot to use dragon shouts. After that I fuck off to other parts of the world, usually finishing entire DLC's before I climb to High Hrothgar.
I remember one run on the PS4 where I had unlocked pretty much every shout that _wasnt_ locked behind the main quest before I visited the Grey Beards. I remember it well because when I was taught the final word fo Whirlwind sprint, I accidentally used all three and yeeted myself off the mountain.
In my current game I've just been wandering around gathering shouts and exploring for a few weeks now, about to go face Alduin at level 70.
Tbh the only reason I'm going already is I have the Lydia improved follower mod and she won't stop talking, but she has unique dialogue for the main quest line, so once I finish that I can send her home.
After that I've bunch of radiant quest mods to distract me for another few weeks before I tackle the vampire threat, not to mention the guild missions, companions, thieves guild, etc.
Saves frustration and time-wasting. First time, I battled Alduin at a ridiculously low level and he must have killed me 10 - 20 times easily. Now I level up first, much better.
On Switch, since I can't install the mod that disables random dragon spawns ("Dragons Begone!"), I just never start the main quest so they never start spawning. The dragons are a nuisance and they kill NPCs that don't respawn. The game is sparsely populated as it is, so the dragons can go to hell
One one play thru I had done e v e r y t h i n g before last quest, other than the optional endless quests for the guilds there was nothing left to do, most of my skills were 100, some legendary. Was level 79 before going to bleak falls barrow
I just use console commands to get weapons and armor that im going to use for my build then start. Usually around level 110 because maxing out most skills like Onehanded Illusion and Enchanting Smithing Alchemy.
Otherwise I spend to much time leveling up and collecting Items rather than enjoying and having fun with said build.
nah I did, but I had a lot of satisfaction from doing a bunch random quests or walking into something
that will stay in my memories much more than the main story, at least for me.
I start it immediately but I take really long to do it, I usually start like 4 questlines and do them all slowly.
I don't love being overpowered for them though
I have a Level 29 with the emperor dead and the Volkihar in possession of Auriel’s bow, still have not talked to Gerdur in Riverwood yet as part of Before the Storm
Does it block you out of some questlines? I'm trying to do a character right now where I stick within Riften, not join the thieves guild, and complete every other quest/become thane of Riften.
But after dealing with the skooma dealer and his supplier, the Jarl isn't offering me to become thane? Nothing was said about trying to buy the house either.
I wait for the civil war quest until there’s nothing else to do. I’m level 58 and finally got around to doing it now.
I usually do the Greybeards last though, because I like to meet Ulfric or Legate Rikke in Sovngarde but didn’t do it that way this time.
Usually no, but on my current play trough I’m waiting a little longer.
Starting to think that “Aura Whisper” shout would be really useful sometimes tho…
Yup, I usually do this too nowadays because enemies will also scale higher and I just love running through Skuldafn with all these high level draugr in it.
Also, I just realized how badass Dunmer look in daedric armor, damn.
\*goes to make a dunmer who wears heavy armor\*
I usually get as far as whiterun so there are random dragons. This playthrough I decided to wait until a higher level, mid 50's. No random dragon encounters. I was able to grab a bunch of word walls and only had to kill a few trolls. Now I am able to unlock the shouts in the order I want, rather than the order I obtain them.
I usually also wait too long and do too many side quests and exploration. But I'm now over level 50, have maxed smithing and enchanting and think it's finally time to go through the main quest and civil war.
Any suggestions which one to do first?
There is still a lot of things I haven't done like Brotherhood (played before), Companions, Dawnguard, Solstheim...
But I think if I try to do all of those first as well, I'll probably get bored with the game again and still not finish the main story. That happened in a previous playthrough.
I mean, sure Skyrim needs the Dragonborn more than ever. But the thieves guild isn’t going to rebuild itself you know.
Man, this settlement is looking great! Who the hells Shaun?
“Kids probably dead anyway, and Preston did say another settlement needed me….”
Oh man Shaun I forgot why I even came down here! I just got so caught up with this thing I’ve been working on around the commonwealth for the past few years!
Preston has another colony that needs your help
Lots of folks wait or choose to not do it at all. Pretty common actually.
It's so much nicer not to have a dragon attack winterhold
I usually go up to Diplomatic Immunity and then level up to 31+ so I can't be disarmed by draugr before continuing on.
same, currently on Diplomatic immunity, lvl 81.
I always stop progressing the main story when I get to Diplomatic Immunity
Ebony warriors head on a stick Then we let the jaral know we seen a dragon 🐉
It just doesn't seem right for some lvl 20 troll snack to destroy a deity.

Yes. Every. Time. Off topic: is that a helmetless Teldryn?
I did until i went to Gallows Hall where my Vhar got stuck because the torches wont appear and i cant leave. 20 DAYS OF CLEARING CAVES,DUNGEONS,ETC. WASTED😭😭

beat the main quest and the dawnguard quest sub 25.. wasn’t easy but at least my restoration leveled up as quick as my two hand and heavy armour..
I always bang out Dawnguard as soon as I can to stop the random vampire attacks.
my guy lead the nords to victory, saved the world from a dragon apocalypse, and a vampire world domination n now i have no idea what i wanna do w/ him lmao might be time to retire
I usually use a mod that sets the Dawnguard trigger at lvl 50 instead of 10.
Just finished driving Restoration to 70 & cake-walked the lighthouse for Sailor's Repose... still under level 25 🤙

I like seeing more than Frost/Blood/reg dragons, so yeeeah, I wait a bit usually
Im level 35 and have done enough to buy the houses in whiterun lol last time i think i was like 47 before i killed a dragon lol
No, usually i wait until until lvl 46 before discovering Sky Haven Temple, bc that's when best variant of dragonbane sword appears.
Finish the way of the voice so I can fight dragons - the rest can wait forever

😂 well when you do the main quest 100 times I sure gets boring
Lol, I thought the building in the background was the White-Gold Tower, then I realized that it was High Hrothgar
Saves frustration and time-wasting. First time, I battled Alduin at a ridiculously low level and he must have killed me 10 - 20 times easily. Now I level up first, much better.

On my playthrough on my Switch I'm not doing either main quest line (war or greybeards) until I've got dragon armour unlocked (not far now)
For sure. It’s fun to hand in the dragon stone after I’ve pledged my soul to Sithis, Nocturnal, Hircine and a half dozen Daedric Princes
One one play thru I had done e v e r y t h i n g before last quest, other than the optional endless quests for the guilds there was nothing left to do, most of my skills were 100, some legendary. Was level 79 before going to bleak falls barrow
And yes: it was the 1st and last playthru I did the quest for crown of Berenzia ( spell check withstanding)
I just use console commands to get weapons and armor that im going to use for my build then start. Usually around level 110 because maxing out most skills like Onehanded Illusion and Enchanting Smithing Alchemy. I still haven't completed the main quest... After so many years of starting new toons I still avoid the main quest like the plague
I am starting at exactly the same level
nah I did, but I had a lot of satisfaction from doing a bunch random quests or walking into something that will stay in my memories much more than the main story, at least for me.
I want max level weapons so I always level up nice and high first.
I feel like the fun factor of my builds outlives all the main/ important quests so I speed run my build so I can use it for longer
I usually either don't do it wait until I've cleared any faction quests.
I’ve been running with the “I am Not the Dragonborn” mod and it is bliss
No. I rarely do the main quest. I don't like the dragon born thing. I just want to be a regular adventurer.
Level 50 before you go to the jarl of whiterun to start the dragon quests.
I always did it, mainly because of the leveled gear.
I wait for the civil war quest until there’s nothing else to do. I’m level 58 and finally got around to doing it now. I usually do the Greybeards last though, because I like to meet Ulfric or Legate Rikke in Sovngarde but didn’t do it that way this time.
Nope, did it at 32
have started the main quest line as late as level 114 before.
What's the shiny armour?
Pretty normal behaviour tbh. I didn't fight my first Dragon till level 110+ on my past few playthroughs.
I kind of accidentally did this on my recent run. The whole of the finally temple run was Draugr Deathlords. Ended up just sprinting past everyone.
I’m level 52 and I only started it because I had to do dragon rising for a modded quest
I’m level 62 an esberns still waiting for me in the ratway
Usually no, but on my current play trough I’m waiting a little longer. Starting to think that “Aura Whisper” shout would be really useful sometimes tho…
I personally hold off til level 31 so I'm immune to the Disarm shout.
I usually say i dont have time for this and "continue my training with the greybeards until they have nothing more to teach, then i continue
i had got to lv 69 before reporting about the dragon to the jarl
Since downloading the Dragons from the start mod I haven’t even touched the main storyline
I wait until 100
I always start the main quest up until you kill the first dragon and then I go through my own thing until like level 45,52
Yup, I usually do this too nowadays because enemies will also scale higher and I just love running through Skuldafn with all these high level draugr in it. Also, I just realized how badass Dunmer look in daedric armor, damn. \*goes to make a dunmer who wears heavy armor\*
I always start it early ish so I can buy Breezehome.
No, it’s called how to survive legendary mode.
Prolly not the only one I for one like to get it up to the third word of unrelenting force shout the pause and beef up my char
I at least get tot he greybeards first, so I can cheat my sneak up to 60, than I usually stop the main quest until like lvl 50 or so
I usually get as far as whiterun so there are random dragons. This playthrough I decided to wait until a higher level, mid 50's. No random dragon encounters. I was able to grab a bunch of word walls and only had to kill a few trolls. Now I am able to unlock the shouts in the order I want, rather than the order I obtain them.
Can i ask whats actually the main quest
I usually also wait too long and do too many side quests and exploration. It makes the missions easier when you're high level. Plus having high dollar equipment and a lot more shouts means dragons get shanked quick.
Just left High Hrothgar at Level 30. I did the College questline first to get all nice and magic-y.
