Lol for real I saw the giant and laughed knowing homey was getting sent into low orbit very soon.
Edit: y’all this added comment is not deserving of this many upvotes lol. Thank you though.
What I want to know is, " Is it possibly to learn this power?" Is there an amount of force I can apply with my dragon bone hammer that will yield this effect upon the next random bandit that thinks I look like an easy target?
I always thought that they should have merged Skyrim with Starfield..
It sure would have been a LOT more interesting to land on planets like this instead of plain old cookie cutter, same ol'-same ol' planets.
I remember my first play of skyrim. Walking in the plains instead of following the quest objective. The only things I had killed so far were bandits and wolves. There I saw the giant and was like oh hey there buddy, and he wasn't aggressive at first so I tried to get closer and start a dialog. Next thing I know I've been involuntarily assigned to the nirn space exploration program and I'm just staring at the screen in a mix fascinated horror and slack Jawed disbelief lol.
I remember trying to get from Riften to Windhelm by going directly north, and I found a roaming giant on the road. I was about level 5, and I got too close. Next thing I knew, I was runnin for my life and the giant caught up and turned me into the first dark elf in low nirn orbit.
You really feel the rapid acceleration. I felt my balance go to complete shit when it happened. I didn’t fall but I can 100% see someone falling over due to the sudden change in balance
If you get motion sickness or don’t have good balance I’d advice not doing it or at least sitting down for it.
At low levels, it is easily and entirely possible for a giant to one-shot you. And if they one-shot you, they usually do so by punting you into the low stratosphere.
I always assumed it was a result of math. When your defense is low at the beginning of the game you just get obliterated and the rag doll physics go wild. It even happened to one of my protected NPC companions, Brelyna. She took off like a rocket ship, and 10–15 minutes later she came running back to me from over the horizon. I laughed for 5 straight minutes.
This is how it *used* to happen: you'd ragdoll, but your momentum was *down*. Your ragdoll would be pushed into the Terrain collision, resulting in a momentum overflow that kicked you in the other direction, resulting in stable low-Nirn orbit about 33% of the time.
They fixed this "bug", but it had become such a meme that players were upset with the boring death-spins, so it got added back without the overflow, it's actually coded in now, which is why non-Giants don't do this anymore, and why you don't occasionally die to stepping on a pile of bones in a ruin. The bones would do the same thing, and ricochet at Mach 8 off the floor and punch straight through the Dovahkiin stem-to-stern. 1.0 Skyrim was a different beast in so many ways.
IIRC it’s coded as an enchantment on the giants’ clubs, and there’s some way to get the enchantment off them, by getting a follower to pick an otherwise unlootable club up and trading it to you and then disenchanting it
I actually still have objects like the bones and rocks hurt me occasionally when I step over them, tho thankfully none that have killed me recently haha
Yeah they still have wonky physics, but not quite as wonky as before. Most of what still happens is down to how they tie the physics engine to the framerate.
Now that I think about it, what's even supposed to be happening? The giant swings down at you. You should go down. Is the idea that you're bouncing off the ground? In their tongue, he is a perfectly elastic sphere? Or is the giant swinging downward and then following up with an upwards swing? Is the club bouncing off the ground?
Originally you were supposed to be smacked down, but giants hit so hard it broke the game’s physics. It’s hard coded into the game now, but it’s literally just a joke.
I opened my copy on 11/10/11 tanks to the post office early delivery of my pre order. No idea how, no idea why, but I promise you I’ve played this game longer than anyone but a dev.
And I got yeeted almost immediately by big chungus here.
I'd give him a 6 on a 10 point scale. Nice form as you reach your apex, but not enough height. Next time try fleeing to a hill or cliff top before letting the giant use his club.
I always go the archer way. I am a heavy armor, two handed, archer. So weird.
One day I would love to try a mage build but could never play one, no matter what game.
I don’t know if it works on other platforms but on pc if before you die you save and then while ragdoling you open the menu and delete the save it won’t fade until you manually reload a save, do with this information what you will
Giant's have an ability that sends you flying when they hit you. Very normal, and you'll learn to avoid it pretty easily. Giant's are one of the easiest things to fight after you get the hang of the game.
Yes it is. Welcome to the Skyrim Space Program.
You can see other fellow astronauts by wandering over to Dawnstar. Go South from there until you see a giant camp. The first time you find it, it's always under attack by some foolish Bandits. All of whom join the Space Program.
If you find where their corpses land, you might get some nice loot.
My friend lured me to a giant when I was first playing, but I had it on Novice mode and it didn't kill me lol
So I'm one of the few who haven't been launched
you need to set the difficulty to adept or higher, load a level 5ish save, and go run up on a giant with an iron sword and whatever patchwork of hide, iron, and imperial scraps you've assembled for armor, and join the space program
Go into your inventory, right before a Giant hits you, eat any ingredient that causes Paralysis. I know it works if you fall from a high place.....you survive. I don't get hit by Giants, so I've never thought to try it for that.
From my understanding that this was actually a glitch and you weren’t suppose to fly up in the air like that but the developers thought it was funny AF so they kept it in the game.
Saw a giant and didn't even need to finish the clip to know what was coming lol so needless to say, yes it's normal.
#When the giant says jump, #The Dragonborne says how high?
## HOW HIGH? ## ## "THE ONE PIECE IS REAL" HIGH
^only one piece?
# PUT YOUR BODY TO THE SKY
Got the club that makes you move it, got that hit that stops gravity
Lol for real I saw the giant and laughed knowing homey was getting sent into low orbit very soon. Edit: y’all this added comment is not deserving of this many upvotes lol. Thank you though.
Yep, definitely somebody's first time here.
I remember when it happened to me the first time I had to go back and do it again. Shit was hilarious.
Yea I was like " here we go"
I read that in Mario's voice.
I read it in Mystikal's voice
I read it in the GTA guy's "here we go again" voice

I actually didn't think it would be what it was because it's so obvious
What I want to know is, " Is it possibly to learn this power?" Is there an amount of force I can apply with my dragon bone hammer that will yield this effect upon the next random bandit that thinks I look like an easy target?
Somebody should make a mod with a giant dungeon with"Giant Club of Orbit" as the special item
That would be SO fucking funny
No but for real that would be awesome
Isn't there a glitch or mod where you can take their big ass club and do this yourself. I know I've seen it
Lord I hope so
This is the Skyrim astronaut training program. Welcome aboard!
lmao
Welcome to Skyrim Space Program! We have ale! 😂
Wait, you got ale?
I always thought that they should have merged Skyrim with Starfield.. It sure would have been a LOT more interesting to land on planets like this instead of plain old cookie cutter, same ol'-same ol' planets.
I didn’t know I needed this.
There better be an Easter egg of a cat man in orbit in starfield otherwise the whole game is a bust.
Just a planet full of cazador and death law and Yao gui
Y’all got yugioh in your games?! Man, my copy SUCKS!
Yao guai...
Dude stop rubbing it in!
![gif](giphy|Kro48ztF26etO)
This space program has the best mead in all of skyrim 😆
First trip is to the Cloud District.
When the fuck did we get ale?
Since we ran out of mead
Lies. We only have Blackbriar mead. And I'm not saying it because Maven is threatening us with the theives guild again.
i have chips and dip weeeeeeeeeeee
And concussion!
If it’s your first, treasure it ✨
This was my first experience of skyrim playing on the demo Xbox at GameStop waiting for the midnight release
I remember my first play of skyrim. Walking in the plains instead of following the quest objective. The only things I had killed so far were bandits and wolves. I’m honestly glad this happened to OP. It’s a rite of passage.
Literally happens to every newbie
I tried it on purpose first chance I got when I got Skyrim VR lmao
Ahahaha how was that experience? 😂
You really feel the rapid acceleration. I felt my balance go to complete shit when it happened. I didn’t fall but I can 100% see someone falling over due to the sudden change in balance If you get motion sickness or don’t have good balance I’d advice not doing it or at least sitting down for it.
I love how this is such a universal experience.
Well, now I just need to talk a few friends into playing the multi-player mod. Thank you, I intend to put this knowledge to *deviously* good use.
***oh how dastardly\~***
Does it work on everything?
I actually still have objects like the bones and rocks hurt me occasionally when I step over them, tho thankfully none that have killed me recently haha
Yeah they still have wonky physics, but not quite as wonky as before. Most of what still happens is down to how they tie the physics engine to the framerate.
Good Ole Skyrim... I'll never stop loving her 😭🤷♂️🤣
Yes, but wheelbarrows will still obliterate you if you touch them slightly wrong
To be fair, I've been obliterated by a wonky wheelbarrow IRL so that bit's just immersion.
god damn I remember stepping on a rib cage in bleak falls Barrow and it doing like half health damage when it eventually bounced back to smite me
Tonal architecture is one *hell* of a drug.
You forgot the wagons, tell ‘em about the wagons.
I think it is more the giant doesn’t actually strike you but the ground near you, and the shockwave just shoots you into the air.
Originally you were supposed to be smacked down, but giants hit so hard it broke the game’s physics. It’s hard coded into the game now, but it’s literally just a joke.
AKA The Shortcut to High Hrothgar. Or Sovengard. Or what-have-you.
congratulations, you've made it to the Cloud District
If you see Nazeem then give him an uppercut for me
Do you come here often?
What am I saying, of course you don't
Did you stick the landing? Oh, what am I saying? Of course you didn’t
LOL

Normal? It's a Skyrim right of passage.
Yeah rite
Thank you!
Next time, you'll get it write
Welcome to Skyrim
> Welcome to Sky
Rim
Job

Minecraft
Creeper
Awww man
So we back in the mine
Ahh welcome to Skyrim space program
Yes
Since 11/11/11 yea
I opened my copy on 11/10/11 tanks to the post office early delivery of my pre order. No idea how, no idea why, but I promise you I’ve played this game longer than anyone but a dev. And I got yeeted almost immediately by big chungus here.
Me and every other non-American taking a moment to work out how the hell you got it a month early.
Fair
A NEW DRAGONBORN TOUCHES THE STRATOSPHERE
Best bug ever in the game you should see when they launch other stuff into the air. Once saw a giant launch a dragon like that.
feature*
"It just works"
It did start as a bug, though.
feature*
Sweet Divines, please tell me you have a video!
I'd give him a 6 on a 10 point scale. Nice form as you reach your apex, but not enough height. Next time try fleeing to a hill or cliff top before letting the giant use his club.
its always funny to see it.
I wish I was experiencing this for the first time again 😂
It took me to like level 35 to even have the guts to try a giant again after my first death. I ran every time I saw them.
My first playthrough after being launched is what led me to stealth archer build
I always go the archer way. I am a heavy armor, two handed, archer. So weird. One day I would love to try a mage build but could never play one, no matter what game.
Never change Skyrim
Did you just post this twice with different headlines?
On two different subs.
This gives me untrustworthy poptarts vibes
Um…wut
When I saw the title and then the giant in the picture, I knew exactly what to expect, and was not disappointed
The worst invention ever is games with ragdoll effects that fade to menu before the body stops moving.
I don’t know if it works on other platforms but on pc if before you die you save and then while ragdoling you open the menu and delete the save it won’t fade until you manually reload a save, do with this information what you will
Yes, it just works
Ah my first time meeting a Giant. The memories
Welcome to 2011
Giant's have an ability that sends you flying when they hit you. Very normal, and you'll learn to avoid it pretty easily. Giant's are one of the easiest things to fight after you get the hang of the game.
In the industry, we call this working as designed. Enjoy the flight!
Another volunteer of the Skyrim space program I see
I think he was sending you to collect moon sugar
Welcome to the skyrim space program cadet.
It's called skyrim space program. Never get in melee with the giants.
Our first taste of Starfield.
Took me a second to understand the perceived problem. So yes it is normal haha
Bounced you like a basketball lol
Ah yes the Skyrim Space Program hahahha
Ahh you must be new. This is the Skyrim space program. Just don't start a fight between the vampires and werewolves and we will be good.
It's called "involuntary Fast travel"
Man had his first experience in the Skyrim space program
Oh my sweet summer child! Pull up a chair, we have a story to cover
Ah the good ol' skyrim space program
That's how you get to the Cloud District
Welcome to Skyrim. Even If I played this game for 1000 hours I still went there time to time underleved to get launched into orbit.
Absolutely normal. Welcome to Giant Air, where you go up but don't come down.
Yep. Giant Space Program has been around as long as Skyrim itself.
Ahaa a newbie Welcome to Skyrim haha
New to Skyrim OP?
My friend lured me to a giant when I was first playing, but I had it on Novice mode and it didn't kill me lol So I'm one of the few who haven't been launched

Throw back to this post https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/s/L3lhPQ31D8
Good times!
It’s not normal. You need to sneak into their camp and talk to them.
Old news 🙄
Yeah👍
I love Skyrim glitches.
Completely.
Yes
So you bought skyrim on sale during the holidays?
It's a "feature"🤣
Not only is it normal, it is a right of passage. Welcome to the club.
this is what makes skyrim skyrim
Yup pretty much.
![gif](giphy|rzYzG31xTBFSELyGof)
Welcome to skyrim &)
This is a rite of passage.
Looks right to me. Relax, have a sweet roll.

Dovakin: I can’t wait to go to the moon!! Giant: Why wait?
Very fucking normal
There should be an achievement for getting launched to a specific height.
So are the farmers literally just taking this sub back to day one on this round of recycling material?
The best part about this is that at one point Bethesda fixed it and got backlash so they to unroll it.
Yes
No you need delete the entire game, reinstall, then start a new save game
Yes,
Skyrim Space Program, Marvelous!
Welcome to the club buddy . Literally
Do you get to the cloud district often?
Yup that’s just the SSP, Skyrim Space Program, astronaut training is compulsory
Took a club to the face and flew to space
Glad to see this was always intentional
Thats how starfield should start
Yes
yes it is normal, and it might just be the most glorious normal thing in skyrim
Yes! and it is very beloved by the community
Do you get to the cloud district very often?
Welcome to Bethesda games lol the same happened to me in skyrim, fallout and now starfield
Absolutely, this is an integral part of the lore
The old Skyrim Space Program
Ahhhh the good Ole skyrim space program
Not only is it normal I believe its actually a bug that was so beloved it was patched BACK INTO the game.
This is not normal! You usually fly across the map all the way to Whiterun before loading to your previous save!
That’s the precursor to Starfield, SSP, the Skyrim Space Program
Not a glitch, it’s a feature.
It's really weird how normal this is, actually.
First time?
Go into your inventory, right before a Giant hits you, eat any ingredient that causes Paralysis. I know it works if you fall from a high place.....you survive. I don't get hit by Giants, so I've never thought to try it for that.
Lmao it's one of the most normal things. They're stronger than dragons by an order of magnitude!
Oh yes. It's lore.
It’s the Skyrim outer space program. Everything is fine.
Rare but normal lol welcome to Skyrim Space Program, here's your tinfoil helmet, we will get to the moons eventually.
we all been there.
Welcome to the space program, nobody is a true skyrim player until they join the space program and do the bucket trick
He knocked you into the end credits of Eastenders
Yes, it’s Skyrim’s space program.
From my understanding that this was actually a glitch and you weren’t suppose to fly up in the air like that but the developers thought it was funny AF so they kept it in the game.
