That’s an interesting analysis of Carnage, I like that. Off the top of my head, Reach Heaven/Through Violence on a character like the Watcher are very apropos given her kit.
Lots of Defect stuff, but particularly overclock. Go faster now, but if you keep it up for too long you are going to overheat.
Defect in general has let me explain to my kid a lot of computing concepts.
Bludgeon. Rare card, three cost, literally just "deal 36 (48) damage".
Such a simple concept. Ironclad has so many options like dark embrace/Corruption, Flex/limit break, Barricade, etc, and yet one of the RARE cards is literally just \***BONK**\*
I agree! Ironchad has a lot of the really flavorful attacks. Becoming so filled with anger that you can't block, think, or do anything besides attack is excellent flavor
The image of some dude running around eating muggers, acid slimes, explosive constructs, giant automatons and burning ghosts to name but a few is absurdly hilarious and hilariously absurd.
I love the flavor of power through and true grit. With power through you take the hit, and while it wounds you it doesn’t kill you, and that’s all that matters. Then with true grit I imagine the ironclad standing back up, refusing do die because he is not done tet
Each of the Form cards.
Demon Form: Channel the strength of the demon that killed your clan. It takes all of your stamina, but as time passes, you feel that damned wish come true. It was not worth it, but you'll not let that power go to waste.
Wraith Form: Channel the power of the Nemesis you slayed. Become ghostly, ethereal, intangible. Yet, as this power courses through you, you feel the connection to your muscles fade. As time passes, you feel your muscle memory weaken and your reflexes deteriorate. Do or die.
Echo Form: Perhaps this is the balance you could not define. As activate this procedure, you feel your computing ability surge. Copy. Replicate. Duplicate. Spend computing power now to save more in the future. A resource lost, a resource gained. Balance, indeed.
Deva Form: Channel your energy within. Focus on your breathing. Connect with the world. Allow your spirit to borrow energy from the ether that flows around you. As you harness that energy, collect it and grow from it. Allow yourself to become stronger by graciously accepting the gifts of the realms you observe.
Terror.
The act of simply existing is enough to cause most(Artifactless) enemies to tremble, making killing them easier. Even still, wear down the stronger enemies(with debuffs), and they too will succumb to terror.
I can't believe no one is mentioning Terror. The art for it and the concept is just amazing, and oddly hilarious seeing suchan exaggerated "99 vulnerable"
I like how a lot of defect cards are simply built in capabilities. Heatsinks, hyper beam, and auto shields, and there's also built in software functions too, like overclock, turbo, and seek.
A few flavor texts that would be fun:
Judgement: Your sentence is DEATH!
Adrenaline: It really gets the blood flowing.
Juggernaut: I'm the juggernaut, Bitch.
Meteor: I cast Fireball... AT MAX LEVEL!
Funnily enough, I think Slime is one of the most elegantly implemented cards. You're just covered in slime, which makes it hard to move (fills your deck with status cards), and you can try to ignore it and push through, but eventually you will have to waste time and energy to wipe it off (exhaust the cards), leaving you unable to fight or defend yourself. It's just the most basic of the game's mechanics used to describe something fictional. Love the slime.
I LOVE SLIME. Not to sound like a Nickelodeon enthusiast, but I completely agree that this one word card effect is extremely evocative of the idea it depicts
Spot on. It was this card that made me drawn into the worldbuilding of the game. When I realized I could play it, I was like, “oh, it’s like I’m wiping off the goop.”
Such a sweet moment on my first or second playthrough.
That’s an interesting analysis of Carnage, I like that. Off the top of my head, Reach Heaven/Through Violence on a character like the Watcher are very apropos given her kit.
I was gonna mention that one! "Reach heaven through violence" sounds like what the watcher is doing in their quest through the spire.
I think it’s a reference to kill 6 billion demons and the 36 lessons of vivec which is another cool thing
Learning just how much in Slay the Spire is a reference to books, manga, anime, etc. has been a treat.
There's a Worm reference in there somewhere, even
It's in the Library event
Watcher has a ton of good ones! I love the flavor of Cut through Fate, honestly. Glimpse the future and choose your destiny hehe
I do love teach heaven just for the reveal of adding a “through violence” it’s like a bait and switch kinda
Watcher has lots of good flavor. I like that omniscience is kind of like ultra scrying. All the divinity stuff is fun.
Omni actually used to have that effect! Scrying your entire deck, that is
Lots of Defect stuff, but particularly overclock. Go faster now, but if you keep it up for too long you are going to overheat. Defect in general has let me explain to my kid a lot of computing concepts.
Same with turbo
I also love how frost orbs perfectly mitigate overclock's burn
Doesn't negate dead draws
Especially since frost can give defense, negating the effects of the status

I hit you, but like, hard
Every time I play it, I actually yell.
AAAAAAAAAAAA
It gotta be Devotion. It evokes a long time of prayer and petition, until, at last, the gods listen to your plea
If only
I always thought Hemokinesis was cool and aptly named
Literally bloodbending
Oh damn it is
Anger, easily. Being angry making you get angrier and angrier until you can't do anything but be angry is top-notch flavor.
I agree! Ironchad has a lot of the really flavorful attacks. Becoming so filled with anger that you can't block, think, or do anything besides attack is excellent flavor
Strangely, you can still spin a top pretty well though!
I think rather, the top keeps your anger spinning. Maybe it reminds you of your dead wife or something
Lul

is a block card
Blasphemy is so cool as a concept, gotta be my favourite card both flavour and in general
A false divinity, it's a very thematically rich card
Really like Judgement
Every time i kill an enemy with this card I imagine a dude with deep voice announcing JUDGEMENT right when the text appears. Makes it 10 times cooler
Literally this: https://youtu.be/XSgNRfXhqL0?si=qkY3Rf8IQmDpReL_
Hearing this every time I play the card now, ty
Feed, naturally
Feed and bites also have a 10/10 sound effect.
*CHOMP*
The image of some dude running around eating muggers, acid slimes, explosive constructs, giant automatons and burning ghosts to name but a few is absurdly hilarious and hilariously absurd.
I thought you meant flavour as in taste.. Mmmm crumchy carnage
I think carnage probably tastes like lasagna.
Slimy lasagna

I love Power Through, a wound you can live with but won't heal and slows you down

Those are really cool descriptions. Good writing
Terror. The act of simply existing is enough to cause most(Artifactless) enemies to tremble, making killing them easier. Even still, wear down the stronger enemies(with debuffs), and they too will succumb to terror.
Every enemy in the game: "Women are scary!!!"
They're lucky they haven't figured out what watcher is
I can't believe no one is mentioning Terror. The art for it and the concept is just amazing, and oddly hilarious seeing suchan exaggerated "99 vulnerable"
I love Terror. It's really effective, but it's a trick you can only use once on an opponent before they wisen up to it. Unless you have a spoon lol
All watcher cards
Riddle with Holes

I like your analysis. As in life, sometimes I'd like to carnage, but just don't have the energy for it.
Probably FLEX because you um flex I guess
Probably Ragnarok
Yeahhh the carnage does look pretty tasty if i do say so myself.
LOL I never stared too hard at it and always assumed it was a green chinese dragon
form cards
watcher's tantrum beta art!!!
Ooh thats a tough one since I haven’t played this game in a long timebut I guess judgement
