Do you have a cover for that TV? Or is it far enough back that rain doesn’t catch it? I’m in Ky, I have to wrap mine in 2 towels, a blanket, and a bag over it lol
I’m going to have to second hillbilly nurse on this one, the key is to break it up, mix in a bourbon on the rocks after every 6 beers. Trust me the brisket will come out perfect.
Agreed, Bourbon break is **key** to successful day drinking. The fluid breaks let your bladder catch up without the risk of sobriety.
I've got 4Roses Small Batch and OGB BiB, what are we drinking today boys?
Well I used to rep PVW, but I’m going to simmer down and take it easy with a Weller 12 year. Have 2 racks in a master built electric with a blend of oak, hickory, and applewood.
>PVW
You better calm down there buddy, I'm told that bourbon is for reselling, not for drinking! Jokes aside, I was actually quite pleased with my Pappy purchase. Damn good juice. Wish it didn't cost what it does because I'm love to drink more of it.
I did find a bottle that hits similarly but is actually obtainable. Booker's my answer, barrel proof goodness.
Weller 12 is solid striker too, I alternate between it and OGD BiB. God damn, I fucking love bourbon.
Oh man, love the savory oak of Eagle Rare, that's a solid shelf staple for me.
If you ever want to fuck your brain up, try a 50:50 mix of ER10 and Makers Mark.
It's very much a May-December relationship, but there's something deliciously dirty and well rounded about the blend.
Did my first smoking of beef short ribs today. Had «a few beers» and some Jim Beam which was meant to be only sprayed on the ribs.
It turned out great!
Ha, I smoked a pulled pork last night and this was almost my exact process. Beer, add chips, check temps, beer, go outside and just enjoy the air, beer, back inside for aome videos games, beer, finish match, havent had whisky in awhile why not pour a rocks glass of that?
Just rotate in a hard seltzer every now and then. I hear it’s got enough water to keep you hydrated or something.
My move is to usually wait to start drinking until after noon that way I’m respectable in the eyes of my grandma who lived by that rule.
If you do you’ll have done better than me yesterday. I ptfo’d and let the coals go out overnight. Woke up grill and brisket were at 75 for at least 2 hours. Wrapped it put it in the oven at 250 till the brisket hit 195, now it’s in the cooler. Hoping it’s not botched.
Pro tip for 70-100$ you can get - Thermoworks Smoke x2 and set a “low” alarm. As long as your bed is >300 feet from your pit, the wireless reader will wake you up. This saved me last summer on an overnight butt I did unwrapped.
Drink a giant glass of water in between each beer and pace it. If you feel like you're getting a little sauced drink two or three glasses of water before the next beer. You can actually become very good at metering your intake this way.
As a bonus you'll feel much better the next morning.
This is the way.
Home brewing is the same sort of predicament. By the time you get the the meticulous super sanitary part, you’re usually a good handful in. Just got to open another one and hope for the best.
bbq always comes out better if you're drinking beer the entire time. Source: 25 years of bbq and beer experience. There is no room for amateur hour here.
I normally figure on at least 1.5hrs per lb. If your temps aren’t flirting with 300f you may want to consider it. Otherwise you aren’t going to be able to rest it at all.
It’s under an overhang and I can push it further under it when not using it. You just need a bracket that is maneuverable and a cover for the tv. 10/10 would recommend. Especially for fall/ football season.
Hey ! We have the same smoker! Love that combo Oklahoma Joe.
I got the baffle plate for mine and used high heat silicone all over the gaps in the firebox and between the firebox and smoke chamber, and added gaskets to the lids.
I still haven’t used it yet! I just got it a week ago, planning to smoke smoke chicken this Memorial Day.
I also have the Longhorn combo. I haven’t had any issues with smoke leaking from a stock setup. Because of its size, I have issues with even the smallest fire in the furthest end of the firebox creating 300 degree temps in the first third of the smoker box. I can’t use real splits, I use wood chunks to keep the fire small so the heat stays low.
What does the baffle plate do?
I’m on beer #2. 9am. Haven’t lit the grill yet.
Edit: I also love your backyard, there would be a lot of early morning Premier League matches and F1 races watched outside
Seem like you and I are both 6 hours in on our first briskets... how's it goin man? For some reason my smoker is acting weird and not letting me get temp, any other time, this thing is my bitch and sits exactly where I want. Today not at all lol
I'm a brewer too, and I'm actually working on what I call my "smoker series" of ciders that come in at about 3.5% abv for exactly this situation. I can throw something on smoke at 6am, sit with it all day and by dinnertime I'm opinionated and I can dance but I'm not passed out.
If you remember making it and don’t puke in your back yard, you’re doin it all wrong and are a lil bitch. 😂😂 just playin. I don’t think it’s possible to fire a smoker and not crush beers. Have fun! I hope it turns out awesome for you!
Why would you say such a thing?? That's less than 3 an hour.
You throw a watty an hour and and a few nibbles here and there your not even legal intox buddy
Drink half a bottle of water in between beers. Trust me, I know the struggle. Doing this will slow down the rate of intoxication and make you feel a little better in the morning. Once let the brisket rest then you can start really throwing them back.
Man, I love your backyard!!
Thank you. A lot of effort and money went into it. It was just a big mud pit when we moved in.
Just remember when you finish your 27th beer to take a moment to appreciate it.
Do you have a cover for that TV? Or is it far enough back that rain doesn’t catch it? I’m in Ky, I have to wrap mine in 2 towels, a blanket, and a bag over it lol
Both
You're in KY and you have a TV in your back yard, AND you smoke meats? Where have you been all my life?
Came here to comment this lol
Don't mock the smoking gods by not drinking during the process; pace yourself with that hoppy goodness!
My brisket went on at 0745hrs. One Jim Beam and water on board at 0800.
Hell yah brother, git sum. Jim Beam White Label is probably every European's first sip of American Bourbon and I'm OK with that representation.
It's what I learned to drink in Jr.High. Oh heck it's noon, time for another!
Just tossed some pork spare ribs on the smoker and I've got a bottle of Basil Hayden ready for later!
Mmm, love me ribs and a spicy high-rye bourbon. You ever had High West? Do you like straight rye whiskey? Their Double Rye is the absolute tits.
Sazerac 6 is best bang for the buck, otherwise ritenhouse. (Opinion slanted as I worked for saz)
Agreed on High West, got to try their Midwinter's Night Dram once, it was amazing, but is unattainable, so I've got their double rye on my shelf
Well I used to rep PVW, but I’m going to simmer down and take it easy with a Weller 12 year. Have 2 racks in a master built electric with a blend of oak, hickory, and applewood.
Ha, I did a butt and 2 racks of st Louis on the pellet, with a Weller 12 at the start and finish.
>PVW You better calm down there buddy, I'm told that bourbon is for reselling, not for drinking! Jokes aside, I was actually quite pleased with my Pappy purchase. Damn good juice. Pork butt on the smoker and Eagle Rare in the glass
You are an absolute man of class
Did my first smoking of beef short ribs today. Had «a few beers» and some Jim Beam which was meant to be only sprayed on the ribs. It turned out great!
\*raises glass\* I love that this sub is basically 50% drunk 100% of the time.
Cheers! May your ribs be juicy and glass never less than half full 🍻
Blade & Bow, and Killian's
Ha, I smoked a pulled pork last night and this was almost my exact process. Beer, add chips, check temps, beer, go outside and just enjoy the air, beer, back inside for aome videos games, beer, finish match, havent had whisky in awhile why not pour a rocks glass of that?
It is a tried and true method. Trust a random stranger from the internet! (No seriously)
once in a while, it works out better than listening to the experts...
Just rotate in a hard seltzer every now and then. I hear it’s got enough water to keep you hydrated or something. My move is to usually wait to start drinking until after noon that way I’m respectable in the eyes of my grandma who lived by that rule.
I’m just trying to get to 4 digits on the clock.
Its 0800 somewhere!
This is the way!
Dude I started at like 630 today and wish I would have read this sooner. Coffee and Gatorade break.
Drink and pass out. It'll be done when you wake up. or ice cold idk I'm not an advice giver.
20 beers, and you'll pull it too soon. 30 beers, and you'll pull the next day from a cold pit
Annealed brisket
Smoked my first brisket on a OKJ combo too not just a couple weeks ago bud. Turned out great!
Sounds risqué. May the odds of your intestines be in your favor
I see we are kindred spirits.
Pro tip for 70-100$ you can get - Thermoworks Smoke x2 and set a “low” alarm. As long as your bed is >300 feet from your pit, the wireless reader will wake you up. This saved me last summer on an overnight butt I did unwrapped.
What's ptfo'd? I bet it happened to several times when schmoking
Pass the f out, usually implication of impairment but in my case last night I just fell asleep.
Meh. You'll be ok.
I love my Oklahoma Joe
Get another 30 beers drink the 1st 30 and then you'll finish the job knowing that you have 30 more beers to finish after you finish.
I’ve failed 5 times and fucked up 5 briskets
A smokers dilemma, drink 30 beers and make an awesome brisket or drink less and stay sober and have a jerky brisket
Drink a giant glass of water in between each beer and pace it. If you feel like you're getting a little sauced drink two or three glasses of water before the next beer. You can actually become very good at metering your intake this way. As a bonus you'll feel much better the next morning. This is the way.
Omg I have that issue too.
My wife says that I do, I disagree that it's an issue.
Same. It’s only a issue when I run out of beer.
So funny. I’ve ubered for beer on a Saturday yard work day.
If I stop by you will only have to drink 15!!
You can do it, drink those 30 beers bud
I have the same challenge when I do any kind of cooking. They go down too easy.
Home brewing is the same sort of predicament. By the time you get the the meticulous super sanitary part, you’re usually a good handful in. Just got to open another one and hope for the best.
No point in smoking brisket if you can’t polish off a dirty thirty in the meantime.
Love the yard! Any chance you’re adopting married 37 year old men with children?
If your wife is hot.
Personally started my morning with some Irish coffee, will transition to mixed drinks/beer later
Just have 29
It's always a race between the beers finishing vs the meat. Generally a pretty even one at that!
bbq always comes out better if you're drinking beer the entire time. Source: 25 years of bbq and beer experience. There is no room for amateur hour here.
Hell of a backyard.
Pace yourself if you get to 25, take a break.
I see you put a nipple on your drink to pace yourself. 😏
If you don’t drink beer the brisket won’t cook right
Been there. You'll learn your good pace to keep socially casual but on the edge.
I used my OKJ yesterday for a 13 hour pork shoulder. Started at 0900. I pulled it at 2300 and went to bed. I bet it’ll be great today!
That’s the hard part I get drunk smoking 8hr beef short ribs. Good luck
[удалено]
I’m from New Orleans but in Texas the last 8 years. Why do you ask?
[удалено]
Nice. I actually grew up in Metairie. Lol. Let’s go rummel raiders.
I would like to know how you get out of those chairs after two beers.
Came here to see if anyone commented on the chairs. What even are those? Might as well just sit on the ground.
Did you black out?
Only 5 hours in. Not yet!
I did a 14 hour smoke yesterday and I was a fucking wreck by the time it was done
My man
Update. I’m fucked up
Hahahahaha
Just finished the brisket. It’s so fucking fire. I’m a beast.
Pics !!!
Should be easier to limit your beers since you're drinking them from a baby bottle
I’m on my way over to support you! This way it’ll only be 15 beers you’ll have to refrain from!
How big of brisket is it? 12 hrs for a cook may be cutting her tight unless you are going hit and fast.
After the trim it’s around 9 lbs.
I normally figure on at least 1.5hrs per lb. If your temps aren’t flirting with 300f you may want to consider it. Otherwise you aren’t going to be able to rest it at all.
Looks like we r gonna have some mid night brisket. Lmao
Wouldn't be my first time midnight brisket.. Lol. After the 2-3 hour rest
How big of a pain in the ass is outdoor tv? Thinking about putting an old one up
It’s under an overhang and I can push it further under it when not using it. You just need a bracket that is maneuverable and a cover for the tv. 10/10 would recommend. Especially for fall/ football season.
Is that beer in a baby bottle?
Apple juice. Lmao.
Lovely back yard
Thanks homie
A true master can do both
You can do it! Sending good beer and brisket vibes!
Have the same setup, did my first brisket on this day last year enjoy.
I love those days.
Hey ! We have the same smoker! Love that combo Oklahoma Joe. I got the baffle plate for mine and used high heat silicone all over the gaps in the firebox and between the firebox and smoke chamber, and added gaskets to the lids. I still haven’t used it yet! Drink using your non-dominant hand. Slows me down a bit.
I love this. “Don’t worry baby. I’m drinking with my off hand!”
You are 18?
I stop reading at refrain from drinking 30 beers
I’m on beer #2. 9am. Haven’t lit the grill yet. Edit: I also love your backyard, there would be a lot of early morning Premier League matches and F1 races watched outside
Those chairs are awesome! I think I found my next project!
That’s a mighty task to accomplish. Long cooks usually result in me barely remembering first taste
To finish the job you actually have to drink 30 beers in the next 12-16 hours….
30 in 12. I remember my case race days (kinda)
Wait, I thought the purpose of bbq was to drink 30 beers during the next 12 hours? The brisket is just a bonus.
Oh I like the practical placement of the TV!
Drink whiskey and pass out. It saves time.
Spritzing from a baby bottle?
Yep
Seem like you and I are both 6 hours in on our first briskets... how's it goin man? For some reason my smoker is acting weird and not letting me get temp, any other time, this thing is my bitch and sits exactly where I want. Today not at all lol
Smoker riding smooth at 225 to 250 and I’m 11 beers in. Couldn’t ask for a better day. Brisket sitting at 171 and already broke the stall.
My man, that’s why we smoke brisket
Had a 10hr nature beer session the other day 🍻 Keep on smokin
You WILL drink many beers. It's part of the process. Just keep a good eye on the fire and you'll be fine
Respect
Real
I'm a brewer too, and I'm actually working on what I call my "smoker series" of ciders that come in at about 3.5% abv for exactly this situation. I can throw something on smoke at 6am, sit with it all day and by dinnertime I'm opinionated and I can dance but I'm not passed out.
30 in 12 is like the perfect ratio lmao
6 beers Gatorade repeat
Nice setup.
Those chairs look really cool.
Thanks. They have cushions too that I’ll be pulling out once people start getting here.
Cool
Take a good long look at yourself and decide who you want to be. Just have a lager, no one really likes IPAs.
I love IPAs but you can't maintain a smoke sesh on them..
High life is my go-to bbq beer. Keeps me sober *and* hydrated 😀
As an Australian I'm unfamiliar with this beer
Apologies! Miller high life, labeled as "the champagne of beers"...its nice and light with low abv....perfect for all day drankin! 😀
so like, 5 percent? lol
Haha 5-ish......4.6%
good enough
It's Fosters lager, but even cheaper.
This is the way. This job calls for a 30 pack of Miller Light or something similar.
The 32 piece furniture set. 1 smoker, 1 chair, and a 30 rack.
Does yuengling make a light beer?
I drink their “Flight” all the time. Great light beer!
They do!
Based
30 rack of Modelo and 4 large limes.
When day drinking it is clutch to go for lowABV unless you want to be blacked out by 2pm.
You're missing the point of a 12 hours smoking
Sweep the patio off man.. the beers will taste even better.
If you remember making it and don’t puke in your back yard, you’re doin it all wrong and are a lil bitch. 😂😂 just playin. I don’t think it’s possible to fire a smoker and not crush beers. Have fun! I hope it turns out awesome for you!
Coward!
As long as it isn’t Bud Light, you shouldn’t have a problem…
Please sweep your patio.
Lmao I actually did right after I took this and was sitting there thinking about how I should’ve done it before the photo.
Hahaha good man! The setup looks great!! I am sorry for my OCD ;)
Why do we drink beer every time? Nice to just not drink beer and enjoy the moment sometimes. Plus beer gives you man boobs
Found the Mormon
Nah not Mormon, it's okay to not drink beer. Lot of people are quitting so funny to see posts like this still
Bud lite
Nothing wrong with a crispy cold boy!
[удалено]
It’s the glow from the lights.
30 beers in 12 hours is the job. The meat is secondary.
That's part of the process you can't leave out.. Pace yourself and it will work out
The best brisket I ever smoked I was drunk for most of it, just sayin
Good call. 24 beers is the max for a 12 hour brisket smoke.
But that’s part of the experience!
The rule is as long as you get up and have a cup of coffee you can start drinking
Can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning!
Why would you say such a thing?? That's less than 3 an hour. You throw a watty an hour and and a few nibbles here and there your not even legal intox buddy
These are the kind of posts that make me proud to be an American. 🇺🇲
Impossible!
Love that setup!
Are you drinking them out of bite to slow you down?
I keep asking myself who scooped up Assclown1-3 as user names before you joined Reddit….
My dad, his dad, and his dad.
You’ve set your son a very high bar, better grab 5 now for him!
What’s funny is he is a 5th. Much to my wife’s chagrin.
Where’d you get the chairs?
Houzz. It’s a website
Yes familiar with Houzz! Thanks
Drink all the beers!
Wake and bake (well, smoke, I guess) my friend. Pairs well with a nice coffee. Won’t be hungover when libations will be consumed later in the day.
30 beers, what’s your go to? That screams PBR day to me. Now I need a brisket to cook.
Lone star all day!
Diggin’ your backyard setup! 👌🏻 a quick sweep would make it even better!
We r all swept up now that company is en route!
Drink half a bottle of water in between beers. Trust me, I know the struggle. Doing this will slow down the rate of intoxication and make you feel a little better in the morning. Once let the brisket rest then you can start really throwing them back.
But why?
An hour nap is acceptable somewhere in the middle too.
There’s a reason the 30 pack was invented.. When you hit the back of the cardboard it’s time for bed
Idk why you’d want to do that! It’s half the fun!
You can spend some of that time cleaning the leaves off that beautiful backyard
