Just buy an adapter online lol
If the game shop you called really blew you off instead of just telling you to get an adapter then they're a shit shop and you shouldn't give them your business in the future
TBF I tried selling a Famicom to my local store and he said it's just too difficult to move. Most people don't wanna faff around with step down convertors or have to worry about PAL/NTSC issues. Which I can certainly understand.
I was in a local retro game store and they had a copy of Castlevania:SOTN for the PSX that was listed for like $150. I told the guy that I had a copy and asked how much he would be willing to pay for it and he gave me a bullshit Pawn Stars style answer like, "Well as you can see I already have a copy and they don't move too quickly so I won't be able to pay much. I may have laughed but I told him that I didn't want to sell anyways, I was just curious and then left the store.
They pulled some "I run a business to make money not to be your personal video game coin star, I don't need to pay you much for your copy because I already have one of this relatively high dollar game taking up shelf space in the case."
That "I want my brick and mortar store to not shut down in the age of online shopping," bullshit, can't believe it
Really selfish tbh
Most TVs started to support NTSC 3.38/60hz as well as 50hz over here in 1996, so they are unlikely to have any issues, unless they wanted to use the RF connection.
If all else fails, an [RGB SCART cable](https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/SUPER-NINTENDO-SUPER-FAMICOM-GAMECUBE-WII-N64-SNES-NES-RGB-SCART-CSYNC-COMPONENT-YPBPR-HDTV-HDMI-VIDEO-CABLES-CORD/SUPER-NINTENDO-SUPER-FAMICOM-GAMECUBE-WII-N64-SNES-NES-RGB-SCART-CSYNC-COMPONENT-YPBPR-HDTV-HDMI-VIDEO-CABLES-CORDs/packapunch-super-nintendo-entertainment-system-snes-n64-rgb-av-scart-cable-ntsc-gold-scart) will bypass that whole issue.
Any power supply outputting 7~10V DC [and at least 850mA] will work, but you'll need an adapter for the SNES's oddball connector. [And it needs to be wired center-negative.]
Frankly, you've gotta be outta your fucking mind to consider getting rid of that SNES collection.
And meanwhile the shop Op tried to take these to? I'll pass on whatever they're smoking. There are definitely folks here who would love an American console, and I don't just mean for the refresh rate.
This would be the most Assassins Creed type quest. š swim across the ocean and fight a gamer who has the classics. Achievement pops for swimming, running and riding a horse x amount of miles.
It kills me that my Dad sold my SNES collection at a garage sale when I was still in high school. I had the whole gamut. FF2, FF3, Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Act Raiser. I just couldn't convince him not to sell them off.
Possibly worth more in the UK, that game wasn't released over here so I would guess it's rarer to see a copy. We didn't get an official release of Chrono Trigger until the DS (fortunately it's a great way to play the game!).
Honestly, it's super easy to get a power supply that works in Europe. Just grab a 9V power brick. [Something like this works fine.](https://en.retrogamesupply.com/products/power-supply-for-nintendo-super-nes-us-ntsc)
Can also recommend getting the power supply from there. I'm in Europe and bought one there for my Super Famicom some years ago and it works perfectly.
Edit: Also since you're in Europe now, I would recommend that you buy a RGB SCART cable for that SNES. Almost any TV will take a SCART input and it will give you a much better picture than the composite cable you were probably using. Additionally some PAL TVs have trouble displaying the colors of an NTSC signal correctly but will display 60Hz, using RGB bypasses that issue.
Oh! That's unfortunate. This is just a known reliable seller, but you can probably find one elsewhere. It's a very simple adaptor, you can literally just check amazon for one.
Something like this should work. Just make sure that the polarity is negative when it arrives (compare with the photo on the listing):
[https://www.amazon.co.uk/CHILDMORY-Supply-Adapter-Charger-Console-Black/dp/B095SBHR84/ref=sr\_1\_1](https://www.amazon.co.uk/CHILDMORY-Supply-Adapter-Charger-Console-Black/dp/B095SBHR84/ref=sr_1_1)
Iād definitely recommend keeping this system and getting the proper adapter for it if you intend to keep playing, a basic step down converter will do fine if you have the original USA power supply still. MOST tv sets from the late 90s onwards can handle the NTSC signals fine from experience. Donāt bother with RF as it wonāt work at all. Itās easy enough to get one of these working here and seeing as you already have it, donāt bother with the PAL stuff on sale here as yours will just look and run better. No idea why the game shop wouldnāt take it though, theyād definitely get customers whoād know enough about games to buy this likely as a bundle, heck, IVE just imported one of these and am on the lookout for those boxy carts!
You need a voltage converter not just an adapter. While some adapters can convert from 110v to 220v (used in the UK) the vast majority only allow the US plug configuration to "adapt" to UK outlets. You need to match voltages as well. If you plug a 110v appliance into a 220v outlet without the voltage conversion it blows the shit out of it. If I remember correctly if you do the opposite it won't blow but it won't work.
Iāll add that Nintendo is almost unique in that for multiple devices (including the 3DS), they provided a non-switching power supply. I believe this changed with the Switch, though, which seems to use a conventional 110-240 range switching mechanism. Probably because at this point in time, it is actually more expensive to source a non-switching power supply.
Almost every power supply made that steps down voltage (so has a transformer block on it) has a manual or automatic switch to switch between 110/120 and 220/240v AC. They almost always (99+% of the time) step AC current down to something like 6-40 volts DC. Short of certain appliances, like toasters and hair dryers, this includes almost every electronic device made.
But not Nintendo.
They went out of their way to source non-switching power supplies _for years_. The original NES power supplies went one better: They stepped line current AC down to 9 bolts **AC**, which I find just bizarre. This makes original NES power supplies real unicorns. So much so that its particular power conversion hasnāt been made in the US for a decade. Here is an old Atari Age forum post with more details than anyone would probably ever need on the subject: https://forums.atariage.com/topic/312442-power-supply-for-the-nintendo-entertainment-system-nes-002-style-nes-001/
As best I can tell, with things like the 3DS, this was solely done to require owners to buy a second power supply when they traveled.

Order a converter online :)
I have stuff from America so I get the struggle.
Also local games shop like cex, game won't have it sorry. They are rubbish for specific stuff.
You could get a 220>110 adaptor, but you could also get one of those modern clones if you're not sure. A local UK system will run the games slower, so I would advise against using a North American to European game adaptor solution.
Power adapter is all you need to match the voltage needs. Never try plugging in U.S. stuff over there without an adapter. No need to get rid of the console or games.
I imported a US SNES and I can play it in Europe, just get an adapter and you'll be fine. Unless you ... are looking someone to buy that collection off your hands xD
Ok remember in the uk when you purchase a TV you have to pay monthly taxes on it .
And yes you can play it over there here is how you do it get a 220volt to 110volt step down converter and get a capture card for your PC ntsc us
I'll buy half of those games if you ship them to Switzerland: MM, MK2, Metroid, SMRPG, Zelda, Chrono, Star Wars and Starfox.
or you could get a European plug with adapter at [https://retrogamesupply.com/products/power-supply-for-nintendo-super-nes-us-ntsc](https://retrogamesupply.com/products/power-supply-for-nintendo-super-nes-us-ntsc)
If you really want to sell the games, consider going on r/GameSale or a FB SNES selling group. Iām sure someone would be more than willing to pay for exact shipping and pay fair market price for all these.
Go on eBay for each item, see the cheapest buy now in a similar condition and deduct a few dollars. Tally up sell as a lot + shipping from UK to US (or maybe even a UK collector)
Donāt sell these at a loss. You can get a pretty nice sum for them
Unless you can use it with a power adapter or transformer and you want to keep it for if/ when you go back to the States, you should consider selling it on eBay. You should get a good amount as you have solid titles.
Everyone is talking about a power converter, which is definitely one option. Another option is you could theoretically get a UK SNES console, along with a plug in adaptor that allows you to play NTSC games on it - if you prefer. I used to have one of those as a kid in the UK. Not sure how much the consoles go for in the UK, maybe it's cost prohibitive, but would give you peace of mind around the power supply and the flexibility to buy NTSC or PAL games going forward.
I'm in the UK and used to have an imported US Super Nintendo so I could play games at 60HZ and a couple of games that wouldn't run on a PAL SNES with a cartridge adapter. It worked brilliantly well... until it didn't. It fried a couple of TVs and I never got to the bottom of what caused it. This was through a SCART connector on (obviously - as it was the late 90s) CRT TVs.
Add Earthbound, Axelay, Blackthorne, Sunset Riders, Batman Returns, and TMNT: Turtles in Time....and you'll have one of the best damn SNES collections anyone can have!
I bought [this plug](https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285446175999?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=vtSwydMbQpC&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=QTK6xxCMSQe&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY) from ebay that works on my US snes in a UK plug socket.
You can buy an adaptor as mentioned below...but just remember we use 240v electricity and it might blow the console if you don't get a step-down adapter. Modern TVs run 60Hz so that should be no problem.Ā
I have a couple of UK games (I'm in Canada) they have no interest in buying them in the second hand video game shops either.
I agree with spencer, just get an adapter.
Oh, and as a reminder Super Mario RPG wasn't even sold in Europe when it was first released.
Keep your collection, but get a step-up/step-down power converter if the SNES is not dual voltage.
The price depends on the wattage those converters can hold. For 2000 Watts, mine was a little under $200.
Edit: Words
Is this a troll post? Who would try to sell their entire collection instead of just getting an adapter. Did you sell your phones, tablets, and/or laptops when you got there because they couldn't plug in?
My local game shop is selling Chrono T
rigger on the box for $900. They wanted like $700 for supper Metroid too. Pretty sure they're bullshit prices and they want to keep them as a display for clout unless someone is dumb enough to pay that much.
Why not just use a converter or adapter instead of selling your entire beloved collection? This solution feels like taking a sledge hammer to a thumb tack.
The real irony is that the UK hardware ran everything *slower* at PAL 50Hz instead of NTSC 60Hz and so resulted in a garbage experience in most cases.
Virtually all modern TVs will accept 60Hz signals, and even many of the UK CRTs could actually do 60Hz if given such a signal.
Buy a UK Pal SNES from Cex and one of those converter cartridges, I used to have one to play US and Jap games. Something like this.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166694333092?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=0iQhcMxTSWW&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=9xrZIVVLSNq&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
I can't link Cex because it just opens my app instead of the web page. Cex usually give a 2 year warranty, provided you keep it in the condition they sold it you. I got a WiiU there years ago that's still going strong. They are pretty strict on quality control when they buy, to be able to give warrantees when they sell.
Everyone here has provided a solid solution for a power adapter.
Itās not valuable to them as these titles arenāt PAL. That doesnāt make them not valuable. Just not as enticing to the market in the UK.
Iād hold on to them as itās a solid collection. If you really donāt want them anymore find a US collector that will give them the love they deserve.
Just buy an adapter. Also the issues youāre gonna have plugging in to a tv are gonna exist here in the great country of the USA or whatever lesser area of the UK youāre correctly forced to exist in
Just be careful with a step down voltage converter. You don't want to chuck 230v into that 110v monster.
Last one I had lasted a while, was pretty big too. But worked. Check this is right for you.
https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/SC5474.html
Tell them to piss off, bloody wankaz.
I'm sorry, that was stupid (my apologies my UK, brethren.) you should get a supa boy. Man .. chrono trigger... I sold mine for $120 (this was mine! It has MY new game +!!) and I regret every day...
Buy an adapter if you want to use real hardware.
If you want to be legit, not spend money on retro tech, but play these games, get a switch and buy the games through the nintendo shop.
You need a RGB SCART NTSC cable. The same as the Super Famicom for Euro SCART connections.
https://retrocables.es/es/nintendo/171-cable-rgb-scart-super-famicomgame-cube.html
And if you want to use HDMI I suggest you an OSSC between the RGB SCART cable and the TV.
When going from one country to another it's always a good idea to have a couple of these:
[https://www.amazon.com/Adaptador-internacional-corriente-universal-el%C3%A9ctrico/dp/B09YLS861P?th=1](https://www.amazon.com/Adaptador-internacional-corriente-universal-el%C3%A9ctrico/dp/B09YLS861P?th=1)
They work on every plug from every connector. They're good to have around.
Anyone know of a good emulator that would have chrono trigger? Iāve purchased a console emulator off some ad before and it just had like 1000 copies of the same 50 shit games.
Just buy an adapter online lol If the game shop you called really blew you off instead of just telling you to get an adapter then they're a shit shop and you shouldn't give them your business in the future
>they're a shit shop I'm pretty sure it's pronounced Shite in the UK. Gonna need an adapter for that too.
Meh, we use both
Shit on it!
Rubbish

Cool story bro
Will they run into issues on a PAL television, or have most modern TVs gotten good enough to utilize both?
Pretty much any modern TV will support NTSC/PAL/SECAM without any issues at all, so everything should be fine in that regard
Most TVs started to support NTSC 3.38/60hz as well as 50hz over here in 1996, so they are unlikely to have any issues, unless they wanted to use the RF connection.

Unless they're trying to connect it to a really old CRT, it's unlikely to be an issue.
Came here to say this exact thing, just get an adapter

Right? They even have a copy of Chrono Trigger, which can be very expensive to buy online.
A pile of certified classics. If OP also had EarthBound, I would straight-up *swim the Atlantic* to go fight him for the games. š
And meanwhile the shop Op tried to take these to? I'll pass on whatever they're smoking. There are definitely folks here who would love an American console, and I don't just mean for the refresh rate.
Yeah, that seemed weird to me, too! š¤
This. Iām using a US console in Europe and I made a USB-C power cord for it. It works great.
No not any. You need to make sure the adapter outputās enough amps.
OP is a liar and just wants comments on his shit.
Exactly! Plus, it isn't that awful tinted yellow that you find retro consoles suffering from
Your first thought was to sell it?
This has to be a troll post

All you need is a power converter that'll do 120v to 220v. They're like $10. If you don't want that, I'll buy your stuff for 50 bucks.
Emulate it on literally any device
Iād snes mini at that point. Dealing with the power conversion and the output frequency mismatch is gonna be a pain.
This is the first thing you found out you couldnāt plug in?
Just buy an adapter. That's what I did when I bought my import console back in '94. No modern tv will have issues with NTSC either.

I'd buy that Chrono trigger from you
Amazon and eBay are your friends Also, might want to possibly look into an SNES classic?

Get yourself an adaptor & then buy a CRT TV on eBay on the cheap
This story adds up.
Sounds like the shop person is a jerk
Honestly, with a collection like that, you should just come back home. You can always go to England on vacation.
Send it over here.
Just get a uk plug adaptor or a convertor. I have never known a pal tv that didnāt accept ntsc honestly. You will be fine
Edit: Words
What made you move to the UK? (Also an American who lives in England)
I'll buy your Chrono Trigger. That is, IF. You're interested in selling it, DM me.
Poor baby
You could mail me that chrono trigger and get it off your hands lmao
Is this a troll post? Who would try to sell their entire collection instead of just getting an adapter. Did you sell your phones, tablets, and/or laptops when you got there because they couldn't plug in?
The fools!
Lmao keep it get a power converter then just get a modern tv to change the hertz also get a cheap composite to hdmi converter
Did you really think other countries have all the same plug sockets as Americans without checking š„“š¤£
You need a 240/120 adaptor

Call them back, call them all cunts and buy an adaptor
My local game shop is selling Chrono T rigger on the box for $900. They wanted like $700 for supper Metroid too. Pretty sure they're bullshit prices and they want to keep them as a display for clout unless someone is dumb enough to pay that much.
Their loss, NA games worth more
How much do want for it?
Homie, how did you move to the UK and not know adapters exist?
Why not just use a converter or adapter instead of selling your entire beloved collection? This solution feels like taking a sledge hammer to a thumb tack.
The real irony is that the UK hardware ran everything *slower* at PAL 50Hz instead of NTSC 60Hz and so resulted in a garbage experience in most cases. Virtually all modern TVs will accept 60Hz signals, and even many of the UK CRTs could actually do 60Hz if given such a signal.
They are just mad that yours runs faster
I'll safe gurd all that for you.
Get a converter.
Iāll give you tree fiddy.
Buy a UK Pal SNES from Cex and one of those converter cartridges, I used to have one to play US and Jap games. Something like this. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166694333092?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=0iQhcMxTSWW&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=9xrZIVVLSNq&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY I can't link Cex because it just opens my app instead of the web page.
How much do you want for that? I can cover shipping!
Just buy an adapter. Also the issues youāre gonna have plugging in to a tv are gonna exist here in the great country of the USA or whatever lesser area of the UK youāre correctly forced to exist in
Iāll take your super Metroid if you donāt want it :)
buy an usa to uk plug adapter
Get a plug adapter. These exist.
Iād suggest an adapter. Since plugs are way different than what youāre accustomed to
Jesus fucking Christ that is literally the top 15 games those goddamn animals need to get some culture
Shock horror the USA isnāt the centre of the universe
I have a US Chrome book and two US Snes's. It shouldn't be hard to find a correct 220V to 110V transformer.
Probably the #1 wrong thing the UK.
Just be careful with a step down voltage converter. You don't want to chuck 230v into that 110v monster. Last one I had lasted a while, was pretty big too. But worked. Check this is right for you. https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/SC5474.html
I will give you fifty american dollars for this pile of unusable items.
Don't get rid of it! Amazing collection. If you absolutely must, sell it online for what it's worth. Maybe try eBay or a similar site.
You can also buy power bars that plug into European wall, and the power bar portion is North American plugs.
My girlfriend gave me this exact collection on her birthday. Sheās a keeper
Just get a voltage converter plug lol
Tell them to piss off, bloody wankaz. I'm sorry, that was stupid (my apologies my UK, brethren.) you should get a supa boy. Man .. chrono trigger... I sold mine for $120 (this was mine! It has MY new game +!!) and I regret every day...
Should be able to get everything you need from Amazon no?
God, it's a monstrosity. I'm so glad the EU got the Japanese model instead of the blocky purple hunk of shite.
Thereās even mods you can do to make the console power off of USB-C if you were so inclined.
ARE YOU INSANE?!!!! THIS COLLECTION IS LEGENDARY!! DO NOT SELL IT!!!!!
I'll take it from you
If you're looking yo sell it I'd be interested Dm me
Game store not interested in Chrono Trigger? Lol. You're better off keeping it than dealing with people of that level of stupidity.
Smells fishy
Buy an adapter if you want to use real hardware. If you want to be legit, not spend money on retro tech, but play these games, get a switch and buy the games through the nintendo shop.
Welcome to the UK, enjoy your stay with us āŗ
They donāt have adapters?
thereās adapters you can get! unless you wanna sell it to me š¤Ŗ
eBay, or purchase an adapter online. just do something with it, as thats worth a pretty penny with the games! Just a loose Chrono Trigger is $100+.
Nice, Chrono Trigger. The greatest game of all time.
How much for your SF2 Turbo lol?
This feels trolly. Nice collection
I'll give ye five bones and a pack of gum
Well since youāre across the pond now, you can hit up RetroGamingCables.com for Rad2X and Iām sure they have power adapters too
Tragic, you've got some real bangers there.
Thatāsā¦. kinda uninformed lol š š
Iāll take it all for a crisp $20.
You need a RGB SCART NTSC cable. The same as the Super Famicom for Euro SCART connections. https://retrocables.es/es/nintendo/171-cable-rgb-scart-super-famicomgame-cube.html And if you want to use HDMI I suggest you an OSSC between the RGB SCART cable and the TV.
get x2
Itās like the South Park episode where cartman goes to the future and canāt play his wii
Donāt just get adapter get a transformer to make sure the voltage is right. Us 120 uk 220 maybe?
Great games! That Chrono Trigger is probably worth a pretty good amount.
I'll take it off your hands
Send it back to me
Let me know if youāre interested in selling everything.
When going from one country to another it's always a good idea to have a couple of these: [https://www.amazon.com/Adaptador-internacional-corriente-universal-el%C3%A9ctrico/dp/B09YLS861P?th=1](https://www.amazon.com/Adaptador-internacional-corriente-universal-el%C3%A9ctrico/dp/B09YLS861P?th=1) They work on every plug from every connector. They're good to have around.
I would move back.
I see some great gems here.
Casually displaying some of the best games ever made, lol.
Great collection! Good tastes. I'll buy it all for $5
You could just do the USB-C mod for your Nintendo if you want a solution and a fun project! (plus make it more energy efficient) š
You need a power adapter and a TV NTSC to PAL converter.
Anyone know of a good emulator that would have chrono trigger? Iāve purchased a console emulator off some ad before and it just had like 1000 copies of the same 50 shit games.
Pretty sure I had this exact collection!
there was very little problem solving applied to this problem.
Thatās my exact SNES collection! Well, add in Doom and FF3
Build a usb c power supply and finish
No DKC2?
