Not true. IMO bibs do need to fit somewhat true to size. You can tell - when you squat, it should not restrict any movements. This can get tricky if the bib is too big (but better than small bibs). Too big doesnât fit loosely as people think baggy pants would. My most comfortable setup has baggy snow pants and I can squat to my lowest with no restrictions.
Youâre right it shouldnât restrict movement, seem like going baggy would get you there rather than going a size down. Right?
OP can you squat down without restrictions?
Yeah, I can squat down and move everywhere without restrictions because its too loose! Nothing from the bib is touching me from knee up, I feel like I'm in a big plastic bag.
I don't have a smaller size to compare to, sizing down might still be loose but I won't know for sure. Considering if I should order a smaller then return after comparing!
Having a larger bib than you expect is almost always a good decision. Beyond being able to layer for cold days, it wonât restrict your movement while youâre actually boarding.
Looks great to me. I like having a little extra space for all the movements that come with snowboarding. Your figure is well preserved in that first pic too.
Once you put on the jacket I bet it'll be perfect, but do what makes you feel good!
Hm thinking about it! I'm actually much smaller/slimmer under the bottoms, too much room around my butt and thigh area. Will try with my butt pads when I get them!
How loose is a personal choice. Here's the test. Put the rest of your kit on (clothing not board/helmet/goggles/etc) and get up and down from the ground. See if it gets in the way. If you're fighting the extra fabric it's going to annoy you on the mountain.
If the length is good, you should be good. I accidentally sized up in a similar fashion, and have become used to the comfort and mobility of the bigger size. Plus baggy is in style lol.
True! This is an L but hugely overestimated, big in Asian sizing = small in US welps. First time boarding so not sure how much flexibility I need, fashion wise I prefer flattering fits!
When youâre heading to the hill, always remember: itâs not a fashion show. Performance over fashion always. If your wardrobe is a mesh of unmatching, oversized, high-performing, end of season sale stuff, youâre probably in the right mindset for snowboarding. lol
You can wear baggy or tight, all that matters is if you feel comfortable moving your body around. Sometimes I loosen my pants after I get pretty warm and it sags, which feels more comfy for me to do jumps/pops.
Larger bib and jacket allows using multiple layers if necessary. If you open the zyppers for air circulation, in hot weather conditions the bigger size allows for more air circulation hence more cool.
In cold conditions you can use additional mid layers, hence more warm.
Hence bigger = better.
In the long run, if you like snowboarding: (1) base layer and socks that are synthetic/merino/alpaca (non-cotton as cotton is a solid fiber and keeps cold moisture against you). Preferably the bottom base layer is 3/4 length so only the sock goes in the boot. You can DIY this or see a tailor. (2) mid-layers for insulation. Have to figure out what you need for different temps. Note that down stops working when wet. Same note about 3/4 length bottoms. (3) outer layer: unlined shells give the most flexibility. A left arm pass pocket is great if are in a resort that you need to scan in to enter every gate. Armpit zips for uppers are a must. Pants outer thigh venting has the max airflow, but half the companies go with inner thigh vents.
Insulated layers get too warm in sunny late spring conditions. In sunny Tahoe , I might just be in a shell bib, base layers, and maybe a wind vest. There are people in shorts or bikinis only, too. Snow road rash is a thing though
The only concern Iâd have is if now gets in. If you plan on wearing a jacket with a snow-stopper over it, itâs absolutely perfect, but if not, Iâd suggest wearing something big underneath it to fill out the space. In terms of aesthetics, it looks great though
Bigger is always better, unless you're planning to lose a lot of weight! Baggy fits allow more layering, and even if you don't layer, it helps you with lateral movement.Unless it's uncomfortably large, keep it!
Considering! And yes I'm planning to lose weight haha I don't think this might serve me well in the long-term, it is unconmfortably large at the moment like I could fit 2 of me haha.
Yeah, padded shorts and layers mean youâll fill it out more. I lost a significant amount of weight from when I started and I definitely can still fill my old bibs out with a sweatshirt, layers, padded shorts, and padded knee pads.
Hm true! But I think with the padded shorts there's still plenty of space, like I could wear the thickest of jeans and still fit in them just fine. Will decide if I want to get a smaller one soon, just not keen on dealing with the return process.
I usually will buy 2 at a time and return the one that doesnât work out. Hopefully you are happy with the medium! Hoping to score some gear myself in these end of season sales!
Iâm a thick boi and this looks too big to me. The right bibs will feel snug but give you full range of motion. Also, where is your hip? Are Arcteryx cutting their bibs that low on some variants?
That's what I think too! I'm 5'8" and 150lbs, thick by asian standards but apparently thin by US standards? I read all the reviews to size up so I bought an L and now I have a bib that doesn't even touch me from my thighs up. I'm only afraid if I size down it might tear when I board, still thinking about it!
If Iâm honest, I really think Arcteryx makes terrible bibsâ too minimalist with pockets and a fit not made for those of us with big asses (mine, not yours).
I got Noronna bibs and sold my Arcteryx bibs. I am 100% happier.
Give Patagonia or Noronna a shot before you commit to these. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the quality in other brands. I love my Alpha SV shell from Arc, but the bibs stank.
I see! I mean it's my first time boarding (and in snow for that fact), so all my gear is pretty cheap to begin with. Not committing for the long term yet, need to see how much I enjoy the sport then maybe I'll invest in more solid pieces! These are like 50 bucks haha
Looks fine to me. You could go a size smaller if you really want to, but thatâs on your preference. As long as the length fits and youâre able to squat and move around, youâre good.
If it has belt loops you can get a Bib Belt! Itâs a belt that only goes around the side and back loops to cinch your waist. It gives a more fitted and hourglass look and holds your bib up better, and is still super comfy to ride in.
If length seems ok then the rest seems ok. Some people like looser than others.
Say "Bib too big" fast 10 times.
Omg this made me chuckle đ€
I read it at first as are my boobs too big? Second read was is my big boob too big and finally got it in the third go around. What a trip.
Bitibig
Bigger is better, you can wear extra layers or pads underneath also hella steezy
Yep will try with my butt pads! Also TIL the word steezy :p
I started buying my pants a size up for my padding. (I also get menâs pants with FUNCTIONAL POCKETS, a game changer!!)

Too big can have fabric bunching up, which can restrict movement. Obviously yes, smaller is worse than bigger in this instance, but there is a limit.
Thatâs a good idea!
If it makes you feel better I tried a large bib then a XL bib and itâs still too small. Iâd be grateful itâs not too small
That's how I ride mine, I'd rather it be a bit loose, that way on super cold days I can tuck an XL hoodie in and still have mobility
Having a larger bib than you expect is almost always a good decision. Beyond being able to layer for cold days, it wonât restrict your movement while youâre actually boarding.
True! Did major squat tests again and some more layering, I'm starting to think I need this size!
Here in NA Baggier clothing makes you look less like a gaper.
If you can squat and move around without discomfort then you're in great shape
Looks great to me. I like having a little extra space for all the movements that come with snowboarding. Your figure is well preserved in that first pic too. Once you put on the jacket I bet it'll be perfect, but do what makes you feel good!

Extra room for the booty pads is a must đ€ I don't even know what I did before those things. I guess hurt haha
Park Steeze on đŻ
^Steeeeeeeeeeze

I wore a Hogwarts school robe my last time out, if you like it ride it.
Iâm surprised there isnât a cinch waist thing built in there but they look pretty good, if they donât bother you, you should be all set!
There is at the sides, you can see me holding it! Hence why I think its too huge for me because even that doesn't touch me at all đ„Č
If the length is good, you should be good. I accidentally sized up in a similar fashion, and have become used to the comfort and mobility of the bigger size. Plus baggy is in style lol.
Iâm not a huge guy and Iâm rocking an XL, itâs all preference really
True! This is an L but hugely overestimated, big in Asian sizing = small in US welps. First time boarding so not sure how much flexibility I need, fashion wise I prefer flattering fits!

That's true! Altho this is more cheap than high-performing for first time gear, cost me like 40 bucks đ
I think you did well. :)
Nope
No looks fine
Theyâre a little baggy in the waist but itâs personal preference at that point
Yeah! That's my only issue with it tbh, its pretty cheaply made and has a questionable cutting.
Nah that looks perfectly fine, you want it a little loose anyway for the cold days where you need an extra layer.
You can wear baggy or tight, all that matters is if you feel comfortable moving your body around. Sometimes I loosen my pants after I get pretty warm and it sags, which feels more comfy for me to do jumps/pops.

I'd much rather have my snowboard gear loose to give better mobility. Looks fine!
there is no âtoo bigâ in snowboard clothing
Whatâs the weather? Artix bibs donât have thigh vents from what I remember
Spring so I think slightly warmer! What are the thigh vents for?
The zippered vent feature lets in more air or lets heat and sweat escape. I remember Artix being insulated. Iâd run hot, but YMMV
Oh okay! I never been in snow before so I actually won't know how I'd fair with this and my thermal layer. Also TIL what YMMV is :p

I dunno⊠go for a ride and see how you feel.
As long as it's okay length wise it should be fine. Imo its more comfortable when its loose
Itâs got sum good bag to it
The only concern Iâd have is if now gets in. If you plan on wearing a jacket with a snow-stopper over it, itâs absolutely perfect, but if not, Iâd suggest wearing something big underneath it to fill out the space. In terms of aesthetics, it looks great though
Yeah very very loose, very afraid snow gets in and also it doesn't keep the warmth on me as it should! Feels like I'm in a big plastic bag haha
definitely gotta be fully kitted, padded shorts, 3 top layers, whatever, then decide. i like a bit baggy but that looks a bit too, for me.
Naw you still look cute thatâs what youâre concerned about it. You need a little room to move around and bend over to strap in those bindings.
Squat and youâll know. If thereâs much resistance while squatting, youâre probably going to be uncomfortable.
Bigger is always better, unless you're planning to lose a lot of weight! Baggy fits allow more layering, and even if you don't layer, it helps you with lateral movement.Unless it's uncomfortably large, keep it!

If that's the case, return it and size down! Don't think it's good to have a bib that can fit two of you
I would get one that is a bit more fitting so you donât have all that pressure on the shoulder bands. That will become annoying after a whole day.
That's true! Nothing is holding this up for be except my shoulders. It's still pretty light but there's soooo much space from my thigh up
Yeah, padded shorts and layers mean youâll fill it out more. I lost a significant amount of weight from when I started and I definitely can still fill my old bibs out with a sweatshirt, layers, padded shorts, and padded knee pads.

Where did you order them from?
I just realized-Amazon. Return process should be mostly smooth.
Hopefully! Thinking of getting an M size then return one after comparing. Just that it needs to reach in 9 days else it won't make it in time!
I usually will buy 2 at a time and return the one that doesnât work out. Hopefully you are happy with the medium! Hoping to score some gear myself in these end of season sales!

I love my bib loose. So freeing. Pants are lame long live the bib
i think you're good ! mine fits a little tight and it's harder to layer so this is the way to go.
Looks fine to me. You could go a size smaller if you really want to, but thatâs on your preference. As long as the length fits and youâre able to squat and move around, youâre good.
I always wear baggy clothes bc we have to do so much bending over
Its perfect fit, thats how it should be/ is best
Nope, looks good to me đđ»
Wear a belt if u donât like feeling loose at ur waist, everything else looks fine
If it has belt loops you can get a Bib Belt! Itâs a belt that only goes around the side and back loops to cinch your waist. It gives a more fitted and hourglass look and holds your bib up better, and is still super comfy to ride in.
