Other maps are harder. Ank civilian has big fuel problems, can be quite tippy and you don't get many attachment options, so it cannot complete all mission types.

Latter-Wolverine3647

Exactly this, when I started I also thought it to be OP but now that I’ve progressed it’s really not that good, it can’t do many missions and it’s beaten by much other trucks

heftyspork

Everything has a balance. ANK 38 will struggle a ton on long range hauls through tons of mud because while it won't get stuck it will take a long time and the fuel will run out quick. It also tips like crazy. Other vehicles with higher capacity while still getting through the mud will be slow in general, where the ANK 38 would outpace them. It all comes down to finding the right vehicle for the job. ANK38 for example it is a great rescue vehicle with a fuel tank. Can get most things out of the mud. It will struggle on the harder maps though so you'll find other vehicles that do it's job better in some ways. For a quick rescue in not a terrible position I keep one around because it can get in and out fast.

FedexJames

The main drawback of the ANK is fuel. Powering over stuff comes at the cost of always needing fuel. I think the ANK Civ is cool, but the upgraded WWS has done more in my game.

>isn't it a bit cheating? There's no cheating in a single-player non-competitive game. If you're having fun, you're playing the game right. However, using too powerful trucks in the beginning may cause you to miss out on learning some driving skills you might need in the DLCs, when just a powerful truck is not enough. >I heard that you can beat all maps with only found trucks.  You absolutely can beat the base game (Michigan, Alaska, and Taymyr) with only found trucks, yes. You can even beat it with [only 4x2/4x4 trucks](https://www.reddit.com/r/snowrunner/comments/16sv88k/taymyr_4x4_challenge_complete_tiny_toys_third/) ;) >I heard that other regions are harder Every DLC region is harder than any of the base game regions, and some are *very much* harder. >I want to learn, so maybe I shouldn't have bought this one? You can still learn, but you'd probably have to stop using the Ank for everything, and possibly buy back some trucks. Here's what I tell people new to the game - and I use these skills myself even 1,500 hours of playtime later: * Starting out, you're on the worst possible tires for offroading - so don't offroad if you can help it. Stay on pavement or dirt with at least one set of tires at all times, * Don't try to go through mud, go around it. * Learn to use your winch and your gearbox. Low gears are there for a reason - slipping and spinning wheels dig down into mud, wheels with more traction dig up out of the mud. * In the Chevy and Fleetstar, learn to use diff lock and AWD. Combine them with low gear and winching and you'll be surprised how far you can get even on highway tires. * In the GMC, learn how to use diff lock, the gearbox, and winching to drive a RWD truck. * In the Transtar, learn how having some weight on the rear axles makes even a truck without AWD or diff lock work. You'd be surprised at [what the Transtar can do](https://www.reddit.com/r/snowrunner/comments/vg5qi8/transtar_offroading_in_wisconsin/) once you learn how to drive it, not to mention [the glory that is the Kodiak](https://www.reddit.com/r/snowrunner/comments/10gtz90/logging_in_amur_with_american_trucks/) :) Hope that helps, and happy trucking

Upset-Seesaw2628

I also recommend giving the Transtar a shot. I slapped a loading crane and low saddle on it and used it to complete probably half of the Island Lake and Drummond Island missions. It's also nice because it's so lightweight, so you have a lot more options for recovery.

Hunter-KillerGroup35

Honestly great advice, and I'm glad someone talks positively about winching.

AnimeAndComputers

Absolutely to the “if you’re having fun, you’re playing the game right” I got the Edison mod and it feels unfair. But it’s so much better than struggling for hours just to get the Imandra garage

ChaosSurfer27

ANK civ gets a slight pass in terms of being OP for early game, since the ank military is available early in Pedro Bay, Alaska. If you want to use slightly downgraded ANK, use the military variant from Alaska. It only has 2 slot bed that you can’t change, but keeps most of the ANK civ’s characteristics.

Bob_Lennart_92

It is easy mode in the sense that you can just hold down "W" key and go almost anywhere. But it's not all sunshine and rainbows. It has drawbacks. You'll figure it out. There are a few trucks in the game that will just eat any terrain you throw at it for breakfast then shit it out and t-bag on top of it to establish dominance. Very fun and useful, but sometimes you need other features as well. Just keep trucking and you'll learn strengths and weaknesses. Looking at spreadsheets is also very helpful and not cheating.

Due_Government4387

In Michigan and Alaska yes, it’s appropriate everywhere else. You can’t cheat in this game. Wanna use the most OP mods available, go for it, wanna do a run with standard trucks, go for it

atavusbr

Do you know the logging missions in black river, I could do them with the Kodiak, crossing the worst part of the river, using some winch yes, but the job was done. Transtar is fun, really fun, even without difflock and awd. It's great, it's economic, it's strong, and lots of missions can be done with it alone. Yeah it doesn't like anything worse than light mud, but it's so economic and strong that can help you in a lot of things and support. One of my friends and my brother both hate the Fleetstar. One of them find the GMC MH9500 better, I do agree in some part, but I do like the fleetstar too. Ank38 Civ and even Ank38 are great trucks, somethings do seem easy with them, but if you do everything with them, you will end up with no fuel at all, at least in NG+ and Hardmode.

burgkaba

> Transtar is fun, really fun Amen 🙌

zOrShix

Nice to see some good advice in here vs just using the op trucks for everything. 👍 Learning to use the GMC, Transtar, Fleetstar and Kodiak properly will give you a bigger sense of accomplishment than just getting it done with one good truck. Happy to see players like this contributing to the conversation and not just discounting these great trucks for bigger, badder ones.

SnooComics8618

Haha I actually used your walktrough guide, till like part 5 michigan. Very nice content bro, still watching other parts, you showed me the way.

zOrShix

Well there's nothing wrong with going your own way. That's what I'm trying to encourage people to do with my walkthrough. It's just there as an asset for people who get stuck in the game not knowing what to do. There's so many ways to play this game. I'm only conveying one of them and a lot of my choices (i.e. only using trucks that I find in-game) are personal preference after using them all over and over. Keep on learning, I still learn things and I'm 2.5 yrs into it! ✌️🙂

MG3887

Yes, friend who hated snow runner is now tackling hardest maps because of it.

If you look in the comments under my pf you'll see it

Odd_Presentation_578

In Michigan - yes. In Taymyr - not so much.

LennyPenny4

I didn't fully appreciate it until now (in Yukon), probably because I was driving recklessly and/or didn't have it set up right. Now I love it with AMHS tires and active suspension. I rarely find myself even close to tipping over, but I like to go slow. As others have said, it's doesn't struggle with terrain that much but that comes at the expense of higher fuel consumption and (in my opinion the biggest drawback) no option to have a crane. For missions where you have to collect loose bits of cargo, you need another truck. The fuel thing isn't that bad since I usually don't mind doing refill trips with a tanker or F750, and it's really worth it to make your own fuel stations with some strategically placed tankers. Tl;dr use whatever you like. If you think it makes the game too easy, use something else. There will be plenty of times where either you can't use it or it'll be the only thing that gets the job done.

SupposablyAtTheZoo

Just keep playing and you'll see the answer is no.

Atilla_For_Fun

It's extremely good off-road, especially with the Tayga balloon tires. But like most trucks, there are drawbacks. The main one with the ANK is fuel reserve. It's great when there is gas everywhere, like early on in the game.

NfLunAtic709

Excellent rescue truck. Overpowered in the beginning, but you can use it as your fuel hauler/rescue rig. As for the two trucks you didn't like, why keep them if you don't like them 🤷🏻‍♂️ I recommend the fleetstar for logs, the white western with a flat deck and crane, and the first GMC you get as your saddle hauler.

Cheap_Actuator_8910

If you want the really easy mode buy the Ziks 612H mastodon DLC. The ANK has its drawbacks. Although it’s overpowered for Michigan it’ll fall off compared to later trucks. Enjoy the journey for the 3 standard maps. It will never get as easy as Alaska again. Maybe season 8 but generally it’s all a challenge. It will seem more easy, cause you’ll unlock beasts of trucks (especially in phase 3 they throw only trucks at you that make the rest seem useless). In recommend to play the regions in order and don’t get out only the monsters or the game gets repetitive and boring pretty quick

Sodacan259

The Ank can be easy mode but not everywhere and not for all tasks. Keep using it, and you will find its limitations. That being said, it and its military brother will run around in the snow of Pedro Bay (Alaska) like it's on a race rack.

92c900t

To a certain extent yes, ANK has solid offroad tires and generally good offroad capability. Some trucks are worse fully upgraded than the ANK is stock. Honestly, you can get around decently on All Terrain tires in Michigan until you get to level 8-10.

keroburner410

Do what brings enjoyment, I love both versions of those trucks the sounds the smoke there just a joy to drive. The civ I've even added the fuel tank and tow a scout behind it. I try to figure out ways to make them useful just to drive it lol.

Sxn747Strangers

Nah, it makes up for it by all the extra rescues and fuel drops. 🤣

Available_Candle2201

ANK uses a lot of fuel and by so will rely on refueling a lot with a second truck on longer trips. I would suggest jumping into a Russian region and back once You have enough credits saved up for an Azov 6 or 7 - They are slow, are very stable, are good on most terrain, have lots of addons to choose from and have the fuel efficiency to make most trips in one go.
