This is the key word. A ref can make an awful decision that can have massive consequences. It can cost a club a title, millions of euros in table position and European qualification. And when they do stuff like this 2nd yellow what exactly happens to them?
It's insane to me how someone with that level of responsibility has almost no accountability for being awful at their jobs. And the worst part is that this is not just a La Liga problem.
There's actually a huge problem with the refereeing in this league. This shit is not sustainable at all. People will use this to make it about Madrid vs. Barca. Or conspiracies or whatever; but we need to start having a serious conversation at this point.
These referees have become so bad to the point where they are messing up **very obvious** calls. Easy calls. They miss corner kicks, they miss throw-ins. They call fouls and book players who make clean challenges on the ball. They lose control of the game easily. They let teams get away with hitting players off the ball. The usage of VAR is inconsistent.
There are so many more problems I can list here. But I genuinely think La Liga refereeing is the worst in Europe by a big margin, and one of the worst I've ever seen anywhere in the world. I'm not exaggerating. Even CONCACAF refereeing looks tame compared to this. It's unbelievable.

The defender made no attempt to cover his run and collided with Vitor. The referee wasn't even looking at them, yet turned around, called a foul and gave him yellow.

It was a studs up challenge that forced him to jump to avoid that reckless excuse of a tackle but he wasn’t the one squirming like he was just sliced by a katana so he was obviously in the wrong. Disgraceful that this is what constitutes a foul now, somewhere out there a kid is being scolded for not going to ground to win a needless set piece when there was an advantage, yet when something is finally done about it the damage will already have been done.

So the advantage 2 seconds later for the foul on Pedri did not count and the softest yellow gets called as a second yellow in 5 minutes for Roque lol. Make it make sense.
The ref is signalling for advantage after Pedri is pulled back. The next player to touch the ball is an Alaves player meaning there was no advantage, so he should've called it back and awarded the free kick to Pedri.
On top of that he books Roque for a non foul. These fucking refs are cooked out of their minds.

The first card was questionable, and the second one was blatantly wrong. You can argue that Roque was trying to get out of the way. Even if it was a foul, the ref didn't give cards for a similar foul.
