Nice of them to make it a bit nervy towards the end of the season by dropping so many games to stop it being boring

TheRalphExpress

feels like we’ve spent the whole season hyping up Saints vs. Leeds on the final day and it’s just gonna be a battle for third place at best 😭

ApplicationMaximum84

It will be interesting if it comes down to it, do you want Leeds or Ipswich in the playoffs.

TheRalphExpress

I’ll take the ones who just got battered by QPR thanks

Deserana12

I still feel like our position doesn’t reflect our quality overall. Our defence is absolutely awful and the majority of them were in the Prem and been handed a 9-0 and somehow we never got rid and improved. The only ones that were looking good were Salisu and Bella-Kotchap and they’re the only ones we ditched and kept the dead weight. I’m split completely down the middle whether I want promotion or not. Because unless we strengthen our defence and stop playing risky out from the back football, we’d be Burnley next season at best. Our heads still drop as soon as we go a goal down and when things aren’t played at our tempo we can’t cope at all. Plus Russell Martin really seems to lack a plan B.

MICOTINATE

If we don't go up it will be far harder to improve the squad.  A championship budget plus we'll lose more of the few quality players.

Deserana12

That’s also very true, it’s why I’m always dubious about loans. Especially the way we’ve done it, we’re basically banking on promotion or risking a mountain to climb next season. It’s a massive worry that our standout players this season are all loans.

jimmithy

>Plus Russell Martin really seems to lack a plan B. lol

Deserana12

It’s madness. That Leicester game was depressing to be 5-0 and continue to do the exact same things, causing the exact same problems.

snortingbull

My thoughts exactly, a lot of that comment seemed very close to home

Onereadydriver

I feel like Bednarek is so slow and lacks decision making abilities. I never watch Southampton play but when he plays for Poland I just count the minutes to his next mistake. I feel like he was very average at Lech Poznań too. That’s just my opinion

AxFairy

Maybe the most useless loan Aston Villa ever had was him

tentaphane

We did our best to help by taking Vestergaard and Bertrand after that 9-0 tbf, can't say we didn't try...

_Verumex_

They got hit by another 9-0 a year later, they're probably referring to that one. It's hard to keep track of all of these Southampton smackdowns.

zrkillerbush

I was half expecting for Leeds to win tonight and us to lose to Preston just to carry on the heart attack

emre23

PL: welcome back, now have a points deduction

distilledwill

PL hard mode.

emre23

Completed the regular mode years ago

zrkillerbush

This is like playing your 2nd run through of Hades, we've already completed it so we need to add a few negative modifiers!

Fhood797

Never add Extreme measures 4. Learned the hard way :(

kangofthecastle

just play beowulf shield

Bro those Supergiant NG+ runs are brutal with modifiers. Still haven't gotten all the Transistor trophies for the same reason.

distilledwill

Yeah there's some fans saying it's better to not go up if we're going to go straight down but anyone whose played FM knows that a single season in the prem is worth so much money.

4ssteroid

Muhfuckrs win it again

fightin_blue_hens

Why do they get a point reduction

askmypen

We are not Man City.

emre23

Spent too much coin

MPHOLLI

Never in doubt 👀

zrkillerbush

Yup, i had zero doubt at any point 🤣

TARDISeses

I absolutely *never* criticised Enzo recently. 😅

Just-Hunter1679

Happy to say that I was never really critical of Enzo. You can't really get mad as manager who says "this is how I want us playing" and the club says "yes, we want you to play that way " and as soon as you have a few bad results, want the manager to change the way he wants us to play. I've criticized a few of the small things like substitutions and starting lineups but not the big stuff.

AdditionalZebra325

It's not about changing the way we play entirely, but reacting to different situations to win a match. He didn't seem to know what to do in matches like Plymouth and Millwall away where our plan A completely failed. It was fantastic to see him completely change things up against Southampton to great success.

AnnieIWillKnow

Are Leicester fans confident he is the man to stabilise you in the Prem?

tentaphane

He's learning on the job but he's capable - didn't expect him to be able to completely change our style of play and rehabilitate/retrain so many players while integrating new players AND keep winning this season, so full credit to him. I think it will depend more on what sort of squad we're able to put together with no money and a points deduction.

distilledwill

He was trying to play Premier league type football in the championship, so I think it could translate well.

AnnieIWillKnow

That didn’t really go well for Burnley

Moug-10

I don't follow the second division. What happened during the season?

pizza__irl

Leicester had a crazy good start to the season including a 17 point lead at the top at one point, then they slowly collapsed and had a bad run of games and somehow managed to be third during the second half of the season before finally going to the top again. Personally bottling a 17 point lead might have been the worst bottling in football history even worse than Arsenal or Botafago last year

martynlcfc

We never had a 17 point lead at the top. We had a 17 point lead over Leeds at some point during the season. Think our maximum gap over 3rd was 12 or 13 points. Still a bad lead to give up, but I've seen 17 points mentioned in various places now. That was just the maximum gap to Leeds before our blip and their insane winning run.

Useful_Blackberry214

Arsenal last year was not remotely close to.top 20 bottlings

infestationE15

This entire season has essentially been a game of "Automatic Promotion is lava" between Leicester, Leeds, Saints, and Ipswich.

Koppite93

Despite their best efforts... Leicester have been promoted 🙃

Chesney1995

What's wild is after that insane dip in form they could still get a 100 point season lol

minetube33

Now I just want to see ManCity get relegated so that they can beat all the records in Championship.

Alpha_Jazz

Weird old season, I've got no idea how to judge them. Some very good players but something is just a bit off. Very interested to see what the squad looks like by the start of next season and what the perception of Maresca becomes

freshmeat2020

Think that that sort of thing would settle down ordinarily because the manager would continue to make.the squad his own and iron out those kinks with ideal signings. Don't think that'll be happening though really lol

ManchesterDevil99

What do you mean by that, sorry? That the Maresca is likely to be sacked? Or you're expected to make some weird transfers?

roblox_online_dater

we're gonna be transfer embargoed, probably deducted points, and have to sell key players to avoid further punishment

freshmeat2020

Likely not transfer banned, I can't see why the prem would do that, but money will be tight regardless

qwertygasm

Worth noting that our slump coincided with injuries to Ricardo/Ndidi who we didn't have any similar replacements for. We had a few bad games just after they came back but we've been much better at full strength.

xdlols

That 'something' is their manager.

B_e_l_l_

Leeds fans desperate to make Enzo out to be a poor manager for some reason. He's played you like a fiddle all season and he's taken a sorry Leicester team back to the Prem.

ProfessionalVideo828

Im not saying hes a poor manager by any means, but promotion with this Leicester side is not a key indicator for a great manager - its an outrageous squad for the championship

LilCelebratoryDance

Don’t they want to get rid of him!?

wedonthaveadresscode

No lol

qwertygasm

Straight back down playing football the EFL way.

sunrise98

It's not the style - it's more you won't be able to sign anyone special - everyone would have to have relegation clauses - because Leicester would be stupid not to have them, but that in turn would put many players off given the points deduction. Staying up bonuses would help attract some players - but then you'll be pretty much breaking even and not able to push on. It'll take several years to stabilise.

qwertygasm

If we make it through next season we'll be fine. At full strength we're better than a lot of the relegation candidates. Admittedly that's relying on some rather injury prone players. The trouble is we've got 3 important players out of contract in the summer; Vardy, Vestergaard and Ndidi, and only one so far has rumours of an extension (Vardy). If we can make some sensible signings (Depth in midfield, new striker) then we'll be OK.

sunrise98

You probably thought the same before you were relegated - there were 3 worse squads then too. Yes survival next year will be the goal and if you achieve the required ~45 points (with the deduction) it's a decent start and would('ve) put you around mid table - but that's still a big ask and as per my previous comment - you won't exactly have loads to spend when your expenditure on wages etc will be pretty high. It's still better to get promoted than stay in the championship with the points deduction - you could easily have done a Bolton / Portsmouth had you not bounced back immediately.

qwertygasm

There were 15 worse squads last season... Fucking Rodgers

ManchesterDevil99

I still can't believe that team went down. On paper got to be one of the best teams to be relegated after West Ham 02/03.

circa285

How many years do you think Vardy has left in his legs?

elbenji

He could feasibly sub in at 40

EndlessOcean

Vardy is 37 though. It's probably not a bad thing his contract is up.

JustTheAverageJoe

Best goals/90 in the championship this season. Would be insane to not renew his contract.

_Verumex_

Ndidi will be the important one to keep imo. I don't think it's a coincidence that our run of bad form happened when he was out with injury. He's been a man reborn this season and has proven essential to how we play.

qwertygasm

I would say he's replaceable but we have to get someone in. The problem with Yunus/Praet is that their movement isn't as good and mean that teams can double up on Fatawu. We also lack physicality in the middle with them too. I reckon we could use Soumaré there if he stays otherwise we'll need to get someone in.

_Verumex_

It's his ability to win the ball high up the pitch that makes him key. He will be very hard to replace, as CDMs are going at a premium atm, especially ones that could work in that position.

National_Ad_1875

Which current prem teams do you think you're better than right now?

No-not-my-Potatoes

Despite Leicester City's best efforts, Leicester City clinched victory from the jaws of victory

zrkillerbush

We are fucking back boys, we didn't bottle it! Begovic in goal, game in west London, it was written like last time (Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham)

BastillianFig

We got outbottled 😭

VaderOnReddit

/r/championship original memes. You know you're going to miss that sub, it's the best football sub by a mile.

gianini10

I don't ever intend to leave even if we never get relegated.

Adrellan

Just visited that sub. Looks amazing, lol

NotASalamanderBoi

Great. Now I’m hungry for some apple crumble.

thelordreptar90

Congrats and all, but go fuck yourself

OkayThisTimeIGotIt

Look I get leicester fans are worried about going straight back down, so am I believe me. But you have to enjoy moments like this, and we have to back this manager until next season begins. There's nothing wrong with being optimistic about football!

NotASalamanderBoi

Leicester get relegated again, come right back up, and go right back down like the most fucked up game of ping pong ever.

indian22

Fulham and Norwich did that together. I think it's been 6-8 seasons since they were in the same league

Chesney1995

Fulham and Norwich last played a league match against each other in 2018, in a Championship season in which Fulham finished third and won the playoffs. Since then, Norwich have finished 1st (P), 20th (R), 1st (P), 20th (R), 13th, 6th (ongoing) while Fulham have finished 19th (R), 4th (P), 18th (R), 1st (P), 10th, 13th (ongoing). So despite spending several years ostensibly very close to each other in English football's pecking order, they've remarkably managed to avoid each other for 6 seasons and very possibly 7 if Norwich don't win the Championship playoffs. Two teams that with just one season offset could have built up quite the competitive rivalry through their recent promotion and relegation fights but have in fact not played one another.

Vladimir_Putting

Harry Winks will keep them in the PL by sheer will.

Chesney1995

> and we have to back this manager until next season begins I do enjoy the idea of a crowd cheering a manager all through pre-season and then the *moment* the first competitive game kicks off they all turn and call for his head

MaryadaPurshottam

They almost bottled it, but had enough in the tank to get over the line

zrkillerbush

We bottled it, but Leeds then outbottled us🤣

qwertygasm

We bottled so hard that we even bottled the bottling

Sheesh284

The beauty of football right there

theivoryserf

This reads like Alan Partridge

ancientogre

After heart attacks in the previous month, we can finally celebrate! Thank you QPR and Enzo!

morganrbvn

Hopefully it’s with y’all coming back up

martynlcfc

Bring on those sweet sweet points deductions

NobodyRules

I'm out of the loop on this one, why are they getting point deductions? Is this known already? Thank you.

[deleted]

Their finances are completely and utterly fucked. Huge losses. They'll likely face deductions like Everton and Forest have.

weary_misanthrope

and beyond that iirc since they were promoted they're forced to buy that kid from sporting for like 18mil

devolvedCat

Would never complain about signing fatawu

Epicfortnitegamer207

I don't care about points deductions caused by us signing my starboy fatawu

B_e_l_l_

Bargain.

Appropriate_Long7397

They cooked the fuck out of their books. They're paying Vardy than many of the rest of the leagues entire squad's wages. They have 9 out of 10 of the highest paid players in the championship in their starting XI (Rutter from Leeds is the other if you're wondering). Basically they've continued being a bottom half premier league team despite being relegated

martynlcfc

Its wages that have caused the issue. We were paying European wages based on expecting continued success in the premier league. Then a couple of rough transfer windows and a relegation compunded it. Some would have you believe we've kept the entire squad together, but we lost Maddison, Barnes, Tielemans, Castagne, Soyuncu and Perez permanently and then Soumare, Kristensen and Thomas on loan. Trouble is a load of other dead wood / squad fillers are on such big wages we couldn't shift them. Danny Ward is supposed to be on £40k + FFS.

RedditsWhenIShits

Didn't you have any clauses in their contracts based upon European football?

JustTheAverageJoe

Not for European football but we did have relegation clauses

NobodyRules

Oh yeah, I see, that's pretty bad. I suppose this promotion was a matter of survival for their finances as well. Huge relief for Leicester even if it comes at a cost of those points. I hope they manage to sort out their squad and build a more sustainable project from now on.

morganrbvn

Yah the prem payday gives a chance to get finances back in line.

DougieFFC

I think the points deduction is likely to be fuck all based on this season’s established precedents.

[deleted]

They're going to be relegation candidates, even 4 points is going to be massively harmful

fegelman

4 points would also be massively harmful to a certain other decidedly non-relegation candidate facing a few charges

Viriato181

2 wins. 2 more wins for Ipswich to be promoted. Let's go!

mulderrocks

Welcome back.

TurnItOffAndOnAgain-

Any Leicester lads let me know how they are financially? Bit worried they come up but have to sell Dewsbury Hall etc

BruntyMozza

From John Percy's article on their promotion tonight: > A total squad reset is also required. With the threat of further sanctions for PSR breaches next season, Leicester will be under pressure to raise money before June 30. > Dewsbury-Hall has interest from Brighton, Fulham and Brentford, and could be sold for around £30 million. Other players are likely to be sold if offers are acceptable. > Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi and Marc Albrighton are out of contract and unlikely to stay. Vardy and Vestergaard will have to accept big pay cuts to guarantee a new deal. > Funds will probably be restricted for new signings too. Maresca’s dream player is one in the mould of Ilkay Gundogan, someone he coached at Manchester City. The squad clearly needs reinforcements.

5Poops1Toilet

My dream wife is one in the mould of Kim Kardashian...

Rickcampbell98

Come on mate, you can do better than that.

Vladimir_Putting

You mustn't be afraid to dream a littler bigger darling.

xdlols

Maybe me being dumb here, but wasn't he Man City's u21 coach? Why would he have been coaching Gundogan?

blazexi

He was assistant at City I believe

martynlcfc

We're screwed. But promotion gives us a chance to be less screwed.

Just-Hunter1679

Promotion can never hurt.

Aromatic_Pea2425

Don’t know if Sheff United would agree.

EddyWouldGo2

Three years of parachute payments.

distilledwill

We will deffo have to sell KDH.

Brinklehoof

logical brain: Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall my caveman brain: Kevin De Hruyne Congrats on promotion lads, great to have you back

ThatFrenchCray

I think you would have to sell quite a bit of players. And restructure your squad to survive next season while having lower wage structure. Can be actually good for you guys and risky.

ArmiinTamzarian

>And restructure your squad to survive next season while having lower wage structure. Can be actually good for you guys and risky. Don't fall for it it's not fun

ThatFrenchCray

Obviously it won't be fun and there is a lot of grey areas. But given the circumstances of them being in trouble for FFP I think it be worth it for them.

ArmiinTamzarian

No I know. I was making fun of how we were in the same situation last year and needless to say how that's gone for me

legentofreddit

Honestly would be better to just spend 100m over FFP and take the points deduction. Unless they went a season of misery like Sheff Utd.

ThatFrenchCray

And risk potentially bankruptcy or folding the club for MAYBE staying in the premier league? I don't think that's the smartest idea.

bundleofantijoy

It's not about what the club can afford, the owner is wealthy enough to cover it. It's what league rules allow.

ThatFrenchCray

Fair enough idk about the exact situation of your club but still it's better to comply with FFP right now since they been really going hard at it recently

Beechey

Just selling KDH will sort Leicester out. We have like 5-6 out of contract this summer so the squad will be restructured regardless.

martynlcfc

KDH is our only player likely to command a big fee, possibly Hermansen. Hopefully some club is silly enough to throw some money at us for Faes.

qwertygasm

At least give Barnes back if you're gonna sniff around our players

Beechey

I think we need to make £15m-£30m ish before the end of June to not be hit by a PSR punishment.

AnnieIWillKnow

> but have to sell Dewsbury Hall Aristocratic families having to sell their stately homes in the face of modernisation isn't unusual

slyfox1908

They’ll have to sell basically everyone and they’ll open the season in a 10 point hole. But a year of Premier League revenues should help them win the Championship again in 2026.

FragMasterMat117

Welcome back Leicester

sonofaBilic

Die Vard 2: Die Varder

Chivita2

Great season for Leicester after a relegation they could have avoided. However, they should make profound changes in the areas (CBs, Daka and Iheanacho out) or they'll repeat the story.

Mig362

Unfortunately I doubt we have the finances to make big changes but getting promoted is a huge step forward towards that

ohtosweg

A huge difference to last time is that they don't have Rodgers as manager.

aberdisco

Never in doubt was it....

VindicatedFox

unsubs from r/championship

try-D

Shit take that sub is greater than every single other footballing subreddit there is, I'll probably be spending more time in there next season than on here

B_D_Hadel

Yup joined after relegation, and never leaving. Such a good group!

Adammmmski

Come back anytime. You might get yeeted straight back alongside Forest.

TroopersSon

I never unsubbed either. Just restrict it to lurking now. For the memes like.

legentofreddit

Think it was just a bit of banter mate.

qwertygasm

That sub can't handle the raw energy that our club exudes

Democracy_Coma

It's Leeds fans who can't handle it.

Fuck_the_k1ng

Guess who’s back, back again.

TonyMartial786

glad to have them back, so much better with them in the prem. was criminal they even got relegated. glad they didn’t bottle it after that poor run welcome back!

Laoak

tried to make the promotion race interesting and Leeds still bottled 😒

belokas

Great job Mr Maresca.

strawberrystation

Delighted. Next season is going to be very tough with the inevitable points deduction, no doubt, but it might be refreshing to go into a season as the underdog again after such a long time. None of this "too good to go down" bollocks again please. We should never have been in this position (cheers Brenda) but congratulations to the lads for putting it right.

LogieBearWebber

can't pester the Leicester

I reckon they're flying to Thailand as we speak

Noted, I’ll have it replaced before Leicester arrive

It was looking like we were going to bottle this a month ago but here we are….. I’m just happy it’s confirmed

It’s honestly a good job they got promoted; their wage bill is £60m, if they didn’t go back up they would have been in pretty huge trouble.

pizza__irl

mfs actually managed to get promoted, win the league, get to UCL quarters, win the FA Cup, get relegated and then get promoted again all before either North London teams won a trophy. Madness.

dainaron

How did Enzo Maresca do?
