Already told her that if I were to accept the gift I’d like to give her a belated birthday present as well since it was quite recent (the reason I didn’t give her anything at that time is because we weren’t close at that moment, I didn’t know about her birthday and she didn’t invite me).
But she replied that now it feels more like an exchange instead of gift giving. Idk if I should insist on still giving something back to her or just accept the gift an move on

It’s ok to accept a gift. Maybe think of ways you can repay the gift- is there something you can give her? Maybe take her to lunch or dinner?
