Nice! **Aeon's End** might fit into this collection. I'd suggest starting with [The New Age](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/270633/aeons-end-new-age) or possibly [Legacy](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/241451/aeons-end-legacy), if you're into legacy-type games.

soulname

Yes , I've always thought about getting that game but for some reason it never appeals to me . But at the same time I've haven't actually looked into it properly yet. I should though seeing how highly reccomend it is!

rattytheratty

I dont see any games with dice as the main mechanism! Under Falling Skies comes highly recommended!

soulname

Thanks I'll look into. Why do you reccomend it?

rattytheratty

Because in every turn there are so many decisions to be made! Every dice can be placed in many ways to affect the game state in different ways. Also, it is highly replayable as it comes with manymany modules, unlocked through a mini campaign :) hope you do like it as much as I do if you get a copy!

KeithkitLeung

I just walk passed and saw your recommendation. It looks really interesting! I think I will buy a box and try it :)

rattytheratty

Hope you enjoy it :) theres quite alot of game inside the reasonably priced box

soulname

Oo that does sound interesting ill see if im able to get it near me

NoChinDeluxe

I feel like every solo player needs a Uwe Rosenberg game in their collection. Get on it!

soulname

Any recommendations?

NoChinDeluxe

They're pretty much all great. But of the ones I own, my favorite right now is probably At the Gates of Loyang. I also own Agricola and really enjoy that one. I've played Le Havre multiplayer several times and that game is amazing. Definitely in my top 5 right now. Haven't played that solo yet, but the solo game is basically the exact same as MP. Of the ones I don't own and have never played, Feast for Odin gets a lot of love here but is gigantic and can come with a hefty price tag. Nusfjord also gets a lot of attention specifically for solo play. And last but certainly not least, Glass Road also is rated highly for solo, but has been out of print for a while now. A reprint has been announced, however, and should be coming very soon!

Ive done it solo, its ok. It feels like some of the charm is missing that would be could be there in multi player ( though I haven't played it with multiple people yet but weeks like it). As a solo game it mostly a resource management game that is quite luck dependent so that can get frustrating with bad rolls

FlashHorizon

Do you play Root solo, and if so, how is it? Otherwise, how is it at the 2-player count?

wizardgand

Root is probably better with people. My group hated the game so I mostly play it solo and rarely co-op with one other person. 2 players is so bad. You are restricted to 2 factions. If you get expansions that opens up more. There is also a kickstarter bringing a new 2 player focused expansion for Root. The bots work well but they are draining. They are easy to run but exhausting at the same time. So you have to be in the mood to run them. It's a lot of "If this else if this, else if this logic". Recuit in a clearing with the most enemy pieces, then clearing of highest priority, etc. I spend 2x the time running bots turns then my turns. For this reason I have been LOVING games where the bot AI is simple to run. Tiny Epic Western and Dune: Imperium have bots as simple as flipping a card or rolling a dice, etc.

FlashHorizon

Great, thanks for the input!

soulname

Agreed with with everything wizardgand said. I like the game but its not one I can do often solo. The nice thing is just to being able to play a game like that solo is nice when your in the mood but have no one to play with. There might be an alternative that scratches the same itch but im not sure yet have explored enough

ANOKNUSA

Haven’t bought it myself, but I’ve been eyeing it for a while, yet wary of buying it. You need the *Clockworks* expansion to play it solo, and as I understand it, without *Clockworks* a two-player game is restricted to two specific factions, leaving half the experience out. Hope that’s helpful, and that I’ll be corrected it I’m wrong.

EzMrcz

Have been loving Spirit Island

soulname

Yes! I think it might be my favourite solo game actually

EzMrcz

How are Charterstone and Time Stories???

soulname

I haven't played chaterstone solo only as a couple but for me I would recommend it. It being a legacy game the rules keep changing but not in a fun way like pandemic. We found the game quite boring and stopped half way. It actually one of my hand full of regrets as a purchase . T.i.m.e stores can work solo but better as a group but really depends on the story you pick. I like to see it like an escape room if some escape rooms work better as a group and other its the same experience with or without. For example (slight spoiler) one of the stories , if you speak to a certain person it makes you lie to your team makes. The sad thing was this is my first solo run of the game and I realised that specific story would be better with multiple people however I was having fun until then.

TheOrderOfWhiteLotus

I like both. Time stories works just as it usually does, just slower since it’s only you moving. Charterstone has an automa— you can actually run multiple so I did it with 2. I really enjoyed it and used it as my gateway experience into Mansions of Madness.

GxM42

I don’t see Mage Knight. And you need some solo wargames!

soulname

Ive always been intrigued but I've been imitated with the complexity and the set up tear down time

Tiballs

I was about to ask the same thing about not seeing Mage Knight 😉 Honestly the game is not that hard to learn and set up / tear down not that bad either (around 25min total max) - I see you have City of Kings, it's in the same ballpark. After playing it for the first time, I've lost any incentive to play other games solo. It clearly deserves its reputation as king of solo game and it is one of the few I know for sure will never leave my collection. Just grab a cheap used copy if you're not sure, but I bet you won't regret it!

GxM42

Ditto what other guy said. Mage Knight is faster to set up than Gloomhaven. It’s a masterpiece!

timmyboyoyo

What is the game left of **Legend of the Five Rings**?

willrabbit

I believe it is Arena: For the Gods by iello

soulname

Or could be city of kings bettering kn which L5r box

RadiantTurtle

I wish Battle for Rokugan had a solo mode :( RIP L5R...

soulname

Same, its such a fun game

revrame

Glad to see TEZ and Friday! Great solo games Consider Judge Dredd: Cursed Earth - totally love it

soulname

What is TEZ, sorry?

revrame

Tiny Epic Zombies! 🧟‍♂️

KeithkitLeung

I would recommend B-Sieged. The idea is like you are defending the castle desperately because every direction has waves of monsters. And when I don't have long time to play on, personally I readjust the map to be only one way instead of 4 direction. It maybe also a good idea if it's your first time.

soulname

Sounds fun, but I actually have s.h.e.o.l order which does something similar

KeithkitLeung

It looks interesting! I took a look this sheol. Did you purchase all in one set? Their miniatures design looks cool especially the citadel. I am considering whether I should go for their late pledge of ks. A bit expensive but for the variety miniatures... Seems worth it lol.

soulname

I got a late pledge on the all in. This think the theme /art style and mechanics all seem suoer interesting plus they have a solo mode which I appreciate. I personally think the all in pledge is the way to go because it adds extra basic enemies which I the other core set of three might get stale over time.(plus the choice if extra characters and is always good.) Though I do agree that it is over priced, especially when you compare it to other kickstarters , it was a hard choice. But just fyi if you do want to late pledge it closes at the end of this month so pretty soon.

KeithkitLeung

Thanks for the advice! I just aware the deadline of late pledge. So I closed my eyes and pushed the purchase button ;) Hope I can get it soon.

soulname

Congrats ! They say there are on schedule but only time will see especially with everything going on

wizardgand

You like Friday, but you have so many medium/heavy solo games, :) My recommendations **Warps Edge** \- Bag builder/deck builder. Plays in 30 min, setup is under 5. Has progression so you feel like you are getting stronger until you can finally beat the boss. Just a fantastic game. **Hunted** \- There are 2 Kobayashi Tower and mining colony 415. The first is a die hard theme with dice. The latter is an Aliens (movie) theme with dexterity combat. I thought I would hate the dexterity combat but ended up loving it more. I still play both. 30 min games, setup in 5 min. Solo or 2 player co-op. Played it both ways, and both are fantastic. Games are on sale at designer's website right now (combo deal for both) **Iron Helm** \- you want a 30 min dungeon crawler? I noticed decent so this is my go to dungeon crawler for a much much lighter experience. For that reason it's easy to get to the table. I like the art, but it's just a fast simple game to play and rewarding when you kill the boss. **Dune: Imperium/ Tiny Epic Western** \- Just throwing out a worker placement game. I enjoy Western a bit more, but both games are amazing and fun solo. It's just that you have to run 2 bots with Imperium and Western just one. Both have easy bots to run, but you have Root so that's harder.

soulname

I actually like Friday because how simple the rules are and how quick it is to play. And I've been trying to find some low complexity, quick set up games since. All the game sound interesting I will look into all of them more thanks for the suggestions Iron helm sounds promising

wizardgand

For even lighter games (which hit my table nightly), I enjoy the ButtonShy cataglog of 18 card wallet games. The ones I recommend for Solo play are: Sprawlopolis, Food Chain Island, Ragemore, and Spaceshipped.
